Nepotism & The Political Brats

By Granville Perera

When Mervyn Silva, the political outcast from Kelaniya is fading away another Mervyn is in the making in the Gampaha district. He is none other than Chathura Senaratne, son of Rajitha Senaratne, the current Minister of Health and one of President Maithripala Sirisena’s closest confidantes. Chathura is becoming a law onto himself and his mouth is as bad as that of the dentist with the bad mouth. His actions are second only to the now discarded Mervyn Silva.

In our miracle of Asia, politicians or their siblings and children continue to become street fighters and thugs causing huge damage to democratic polity. President Sirisena’s siblings too are no exception. A peasant murdered one of Sirisena’s brothers for sleeping with his wife, and another it is claimed has become a law unto himself in Nuwara Eliya, filling up the racecourse with debris from his luxury real estate construction project. Another sibling, the head of Telecom too has been exposed in social and alternate media. Wonder what the other eight are up to?

Chathura SenaratnaWe had a Chief Minister from Gampaha who demanded a bribe of 50 million, and the one from whom the bribe was demanded has been told in no uncertain terms, (with the choicest words from the Sinhala vocabulary) as to what would happen to him if the full amount in bribes were not paid. This telephone conversation was recorded and made available to the relevant authorities, and sweet nothing has happened under Yahapalanaya, even after complaints were made to the highest echelons of government. We had also Yahapalanaya stalwart Arjuna Ranatunga appointing his sibling as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka ports authority. Arjuna Ranatunga was one of the most vocal against the Rajapaksa nepotism on election platforms in the run up to the January 2015 elections..

The former president Mahinda Rajapaksa’s children were no exception and were accused of slapping rugby referees to suspicion of ordering the murder Wasim Thajudeen, the much loved Havelocks ruggerite. They were also accused of absolute corruption, money laundering etc. with investments by a naval rating to the tune of 2 billion in their television foray. We had the S B Dissanayake, creating mayhem a while ago and was shipped off to Australia. He now sits in the board of the Malabe Medical College, and of course our notorious Mervyn’s son Malaka who used his fathers ministerial security details to beat up anyone who opposed him. We should not forget the famous son of the former media minister who tried to open a planes’ emergency exit at 10,000 feet in air due to his drunken stupor and insisted that he tried to open the plane’s toilet door. There is no doubt that all these brats of the intolerable politicians should be flushed down the toilets.

The Magistrate’s Court of Negambo has at last issued notice on Chathura Senaratne, MP who represents the United National Party in the Gampaha District for allegedly threatening a group of individuals in custody at the Ragama Police Station. The Magistrate issued notice on Senaratne to appear before the court, after being notified by police regarding the occurrence.

Chathura had walked in to the police station (Nishantha Muthuhettigama style) and threatened 5 persons who were arrested by the police due to a clash between supporters of MPs Dr. Kavinda Jayawardena (son of the late UNP veteran from Ja-ela, Jayalath Jayewardene) and Chathura Senaratne. Three persons received treatment at the Ragama Hospital due to this clash.

Chathura Senaratne was parachuted to the Gampaha district from nowhere due to his father, Rajitha Senerate’s support for President Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s election campaign in January 2015. Chathura had the audacity to challenge two-time President and a veteran parliamentarian with over 45 years of experience, Mahinda Rajapaksa to contest him in Mahinda Rajapaksa’s own home town, implying that the little brat had more popular support. He vowed to defeat Mahinda Rajapaksa and Chathura knows very well how to generate publicity for himself.

Chathura Seneratne also went to the extent of desecrating the funeral of the most venerated Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero by putting up posters, banners and hoardings all over the city of Colombo. Who gave permission to this young politician and what is the justification behind letting him have his way? The persons responsible for the funeral arrangements should be held responsible.

Yahapalanaya or Yakapalanaya, the country is full of these vultures that thrive on the naivety of the ignorant voters. It is time that the likes of Mervyn Silva and Nishantha Muthuhettigama with novice Chathura Senaratne are checked and brought to justice.

President Sirisena and Prime Minister Wickramasinghe must end their honeymoon with the corrupt and horrible, and bring to book perpetrators of violence and eliminate the culture of impunity.

Failure to do so will destroy the fragile coalition and end the short-lived marriage between the UNP and SLFP.

The new crop, as replacement for Namal Rajapaksa?

These young brats should learn to express their thoughts not attacking anyone – that should be the basics that the parent house could teach them if they want to go in to politics. Father of all uncivlized talks – had been Mahinda Jarapakashe. In his days, he himself started with all derogatory terms on public stages – allowing that donkey from Kelaniya Mervin Silva to run amok with his direct approval. All in all, the consequences we see it today, even young politicians – offsprings of senior ones behave the same.
Germany, Italy and some other countries, they have introduced code of ethics- if anyone would violate it, have to face the consequences, regardless of being belonged to Minister family, president family or other public figures. So long real rules and regulations would not be introduced to the torn nation, nothing would work towards the tangible changes of the society.
I only liked Rajitha Senaratne because he was one among the few bravies to have worked to chase away Rajapakshe. Else, I did not like to hear talks – he is not far from the many that worsened this society, perhaps, you need to have these the like guys to run the society of our kind.
I respect Ranil, Karu and few others, that would not attack the other while holding public speeches. No matter they the named are highly attacked, they just ignore it and behave as they have been. This is exemplary.

Even a bad politician would do good things

        a) Rajitha riskness in terms of breaking away from former murderous regime was a good thing – even the man was not far from those idiotic politicians licked the balls of MR

b)This means not that whatever Rajitha does today is right. Above all, he should not add things evasively as Mervin Silva or Dayan Jayathilaka did on Nugegoda stage – if the guy is proxy- Yahapalanaya man

        c) The front men should be exemplary before going to make other right – then only real Yahapalanaya could become the reality.

d)Ranil and My3 behave well- they would not use low level sinhala slangs even if they have been attacked pulicly – they just behave as if they did not hear – that should be the way to go

        e) Above all, MEDIA MEN should work to their hearts, just men at the next door spread gossips sometimes not knowing the gravity of the issue – should be banned in SL to bring a respect to lanken media

        f) The few good could work for the betterment of the nation, but wrost larger masses seem to be on every attempt to topple the currtent govt and their golden tasks before them

So long lanken law would not take action to hang these men by their balls ( meaning by imposing real hard punishments) no any efforts can bring much towards good.

What I want to know is who on earth voted for this ‘idiot who thinks the world of himself’. Has he got any votes just because he challenged the 2 time president(after all he won the war) and who is this idiot compared to him. By the my view is that MR has ruined this country after winning the war but this idiot challenging him is a joke.

There were newspaper reports that Ven Rathana has actively supported this brat. If that is so, Ven Rathana should take some responsibility for the action of the brat.

simple answer is your folks – that would not even see it right.. but they voted..

did not they vote for Duminda Silva ?

did not they vote for Gonwahanse gonmapilla ?

did not they vote for Buurwanse – the high voice among amost abusive paranoid of the low classes ?

Western countries would never allow any candidates like Buruwanse or Gonawahanse to emerge since their thoughts and arguments are far from the facts.. irrealities – they though have talent to paint black as white or vice versa – their mediations can only work to ourreach gullible innocient masses .. those that keep away from facts but woudl love to terms being heard and spread … they are just like cattle that wait for fodder – they dont think beyond any further, but willingly to fulfil the emotionals thoughts of their lovely canddiates. They have no criteria to see what is right and what is wrong. Media has not done enough to make them clear about the checks and balances of the previous ruLERS:

It is the like North koreans are asked to weep all along from dawn to dusk – in the demise of the their leader.. if they would not shed enough tears – they would be charged accordingly. This kind of era we had until 8th January.
Very sama leader that led it to that deteriorated levels, stay smile even today, as if his ghost was before 8th Jan. Can you imagine ?

There is a saying in Germany- which says, apple does not fall far from the tree.

These idiotic offsprings are not nurtured by anyone. They from the begning on thought theirs is above law. In western countries, be it the sons of Tony blair or others, they all have to go through the same agenda if anything would have been gone wrong with those offprings.
In Germany there are programs in the TV, if any young chap as underage go through any kind of criminal deeds, have no other choice than subject to juvenile punishments (some have to work certain hours on a hospital by treating the elderly people, some have to work for day care centres, some have to work evne on the garbage collecting jobs – once they each have complted them only, they are entitled to normal life – there all these lads learn a lot) Rigorous law imposement could help especially those prominent sons of ruling ministers)..

First they should learn is to be exemplary by their wording. Else, they would not be able to work good for the society. Wording if not proper, could end up unexpected crimes.

Yes, Amarasiri – these men seem to have mouth pieces similar to toilet pits. They dont care what they are droping – being on public stage. Rememeber in our days – 4 decades ago, how the politicians or public figures addressed the issue publicly ? Those were the nicest day of our life. Today, even derogatory terms have become their normal slangs of the day – all because of stupid politicians – uneducated rascals being given the chance to work for the public. There should be a set of guidlines when allowing any candidate to become politicians – then only we could expect that future of the children would be muc better.

Yes, I too feel not everything is alright with Chathura. He’s acting strange day by day, raving and ranting over public matters…like it is something highly personal to him. He may be delusional or this is his way of seeking attention. Anyway, he needs some therapy before he causes serious damage to the Yaha-Regime.

Well said Granville. How on earth these vultures are allowed to Roam among civilised citizens.it stinks to the core.
Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely . The rainbow coalition we thought was a panacea , apparently it is turning to be worse than the previous regime. I feel sorry for the masses of all races ,colour and regilion.
I am sick and saddened by friends and family politics. Aren’t there any laws to stop these nepotism I plead. Do they want a revolt similar to the one in the 80s and 90s. It seems no one cares. We have not seen a single charge sheet against the previous regime. Why should they . They are their partners in crime. Please keep up the excellent work you are doing in getting the facts and figures

Both Sirisena and RW are resposnsible.

RW nominated this up and coming political criminal via UNP Gampaha, if I am not mistaken.

Why do you think these young political criminals fight so hard? Why do you think they jump to slot vacated by their aging criminal Dads? For the country? Of course not.

      1. Because that’s all they know. Grow up in a political family in SL, you learn only intimidation and violence. Nothing else.

      2. Where else can these unemployable monkeys get such perks and privileges? Free fuel, staff, luxurious vehicles & pensions after 5 years. Only in politics in SL.

Again I hold the stupid electorate who back these idiots into Parliamentary seats responsible.

Not to mention Sirisena and RW, who continue with nepotism as if nothing happened on 8th January. A total betrayal of people.

      Cheers!

      PS:
Where is that fake Good Governance stalwart Arjuna? Busy sucking the blood out of SLPA? Why aren’t his criminal brothers in Remand yet?

I thought we established rule of law after 2 major election victories.

what alternatives you have all and sundry are like that ?

Should RW and MY3 produce genetically modified candidates ?

Why do you want to make the mentioned accoutable for everything?

These buggers calling themselves as senior men of the lanken politics to behave or allow their bastards sons to behave could lead the earlier break of the current adminstration.

This is simply 3rd world politics. I know that RW or MY3 even if they have good thoughts to make a real changes, so long idiots are the majority nothing would move as expected.

It is like a Blood cancer patient needs to subject to full blood tranfusion in order to heal his body. So long cancer cells stay spread in the body, no other remedies could help him further.

Its time that Ranil (not maithri- NOT CAPABLE) starts his ;laboratory to produce some clean candidates. There are many young technocrats who could make valuable contributions to the country, but they shy away from politics because of the huge cost of getting elected and the political violence. So, in the new constitution making, Ranil should address this and ensure that over 50% of the representatives are of a quality breed, not these ruffians

          • 3
            0

            You may be right.
But how many of the population will support him in that great endevour ? I know Ranil is pragmatic. His actions are not to please anyone but thinking it twice. Alone the issue not to have appointed any defeated candidates as MPs or ministers – should be highly commendable. And the fact the young ministers be not appointed as key ministers – giving them more time to collect exp – that is the way to go actually.

As we got it double checked from the last election over 50% of vote eligibles of the island are stupid – they dont care who to be appointed.. so long their evasive thoughts are caught by greedy politicians. They have so visible evidences Rajapakshes to have looted and rooted, but never a word would have been passed against as if a LOYAL dog would stay loyal entire period of time.

        Ben Hurling

You have been accusing every politician of being corrupt, crook, …. criminal, ….

If you find all of them are not fit for the purpose why don’t you import a few from Singapore, as RW has been trying to get few experts to run his Megapolis project and restructure External Affairs ministry? No harm in inviting the Singaporeans to run this island.

My only worry is, I seek your guarantee that they too will not turn into much more efficient crooks, morons, criminals, …. after their stint in this island

        Can you assure the Singaporeans?

Sri Lanka is going through the ugliest era of its political history.
The Rajapakse regime are the worse offenders here – admittedly, not the only aberration. “Like father like son” may be the explanation for those rowdies – sons (or SOBs as many would prefer) of Kudu Mervin, SBD and the Dentist – not to mention MR. Don’t forget Matara’s Mahinda Wijesekera’s son – another notorious rowdy sometime back. These rascals thought they were Princes just because the laws went silent when their father’s interfered with the police-judicial process. Aiyo Sirisena’s children are not far off. The answer to this may be the restoration of quality Police and due application of the judicial process – still under the clutches of political bosses despite the intended good of the Constitutional Council.

Let them all take a lesson from the two well behaved and well brought up children of CBK. Good parentage, proper education, splendid breeding and courtly manners – you might want to add.

It will take us a few more decades, hopefully, to bring back the decent society we were for a long time – until these “popular leaders” took over our political heights.

Thank you Mr Perera. You have said most of the things that needs to be said about the Yakapalana mob. Just a couple of things.

Rajitha definitely has a long term agenda to rise high in the political ladder, not unlike his father. He was trained by the CIA (according to Wikileaks cables from the US embassy Colombo) on Arab Spring style regime change tactics and he speaks like a carp. He should be stopped by those within the UNP who are guilty of giving him a ticket from Gampaha.

Secondly, you speak of the “honeymoon” betwee Sirisena and Wickremesinghe. Please save us from the revolting image!

It is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING that our politicians – especially Ministers, allow their political and non political brats and brothers to do anything under the sun.

THis country and its assets and Institutions are NOT their private property.

I don’t think such things happen anywhere else in the CIVILIZED world. I mean CIVILIZED world.

Also no cabinet minister would criticize another, in public as some johnnies now do. Just not ON.

Appointing brothers as Chairmen of economic nerve centre Institutions COMING UNDER THE SAME MINISTER is such a thunderous foul, I cannot for a moment BELIEVE this is happening under this much touted Yahapalana government.

Both the PM and the President will pay for all of this.

    Just watch.

    • 1
      0

Those of us who stuck our neck out and brought Yahapalanaya should dip our faces in the toilet commode. What is happening is a shame. Look at the President appointing his elder brother as Chairman of SLT and its group of companies, Ravi Karunanayake appointing his wife’s police sergeant uncle as chairman of the state insurance corporation, Arjuna appointing his brother as chairman of SLPA, Kiriella appointing his stooges without any education as chairman of many institutions, Kabir Hashim appointing his brother in law as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. The list goes on and Yahapalanaya is being a bigger culprit of nepotism than the rajapaksas.

Violece by the Sirisena family in Polannaruwa and Nuwaraeliya is becoming rampant

Dobt blame Chathura but blame the voters who brought him to power.

Sirisena’s baby girl will soon be contesting too! The Ayahapalanaya government of Ranil Wickramsinghe and Sirisena is going from strength to strength with hundreds of Commissions and NO CONVICTIONS of CORRUPT POLITICIANS.

In the rush to establish a new constitution Sirisena and Ranil have forgotten first pillar of Sobitha Thero’s reform movement which was to fight corruption in political culture since Politicians are the biggest law breakers in the Miracle of Modayas with absolute IMPUNITY and IMMUNITY and parliamentary privileges that Ranil loves to talk about.

The political circus continues with the swollen cabinet of corrupt clowns while Commissions galore have not resulted in a single trial and conviction of these corrupt politicians who have been given bribes by Avant Guard whose Chairman and board should have been arrested and tried and pass ports impounded long ago.

Meanwhile the corrupt insider trader who runs the Central Bank who is NOt and economist and lacks the qualifications head the CB is now a Commissioner of the Finance Commission! Corruption comounded !

We have a finance minister who is one of the most corrupt. There is recorded evidence of Rajitha receiving 5 million from Avant Garde and still betraying them. He probably was not satisfied with 5 million when Wijedasa is accused of getting 100 million. We had Prassanan Ranatunga, the then chief minister demanding on the phone a bribe of 50 million and no one bothers about it any more. Its hunky dory times for all

Politically power exacerbated bastardly political vagabonds and the off springs boastfully said to be theirs are a menace to the peaceful society,to which no state protection will ever be offered. We must provide our own protection overtly or covertly.Being constantly in the reasonable Offensive is the best defencive protectionism against these rowdy said to be sons of politicians.Father is an opinion, while he mother is the reality..

Its time Prime Minister took charge of government and eliminate this sort of menace from politics. President Maithripala is only interested in saving his skin and being popular and he will not do anything to Rajitha or his son. Failure to act now will cause the ruin of the wickramasinghe administration. There is alerady conflict with Harin who basically started the momentum for regime change. He may be young, but a serious potential leader, so rubbing him off will not lead to any good.

This kind of behaviour is reminiscent of the Rajapaksa era and I am not surprised at the behaviour of these hooligans. They were part of that government too. I am well aware of the threats faced by the parents of that underage girl who was abducted and kept in the official residence of Rajitha Senarate under his ministerial security guard. What more can you expect. It is a crime to say, they are part of the Yahapalanaya

Young chap – what matters is today MY3 son is not behaving wrong…

once criminal is a not a life long criminal.. that you guys should learn let alone today…

Besides, regardless of the position of their seniors, they should learn to behave well… that is the least we the public expect from them.

None of the todays leaders are like Marawala Rajapakshe. So you cant attack them today for the misbehavoiur of their offsprings. Rajitha s case is different. He himself has a mouthpiece not similar to any of those of sober.. he does not know what he is talking about…. may be his genetics could go wrong in the placement mixing up the position – ends being erroneously placed

How can they ?Said is easier than done. TOdy politicians forget their personal gains after becoming the politicians. Even if they promise a lot prior to elections, they too not seem to be respecting to what they promised before.

It is not easy to resolve the kind of problems. Today, so called seniors behave even more violent than the juniors. Instead of behaving well giving their offsprings examples – Rajith or other ministers to behave this way could harm the ruling of current govt. I really dont think that My3 would ever be happy to see all these – even if people would see that Rajitha or anyone could be close confidiantes to MY3, I dont think that he could permit anything to destroy current adminsitration.

During my teenage days, lanka had good politicians. That was in 70ties to 80ties. they used civilized kind of terms on the public stages. But to that time too, Meeharaka Rajaakshe was there – he should have learnt it from those civlized folks, but his regime only allowed any idiots to use their Kunuharupa since the bugger could not differencite it from his. If he does, why not others. The man should be made accoutable for all worsened situation of the country facing today.

Recalling what the bugger made being on a public stage ” I can do 3 times”, I have proved it …. ( meaning he is potent enough to produce 3 healthy sons)..cheeya…. not even street man would have guts to use the terms…. anyways, it was Mahinda Jarapakshe in high times. if this the like terms were used in Germany or Europe. they would have been a revolution… other civilized ministers would have gone asking the bugger to resign or make public apology… that is what we shoudl NOT forget.

Also Ranils use of the word Pimpiya.

MR old Thurstanite is definitely more Kara than Ranil and probably can use even worse swear words.
However, as far as I know MR did not use swear words in Parliament.

Thank God Buddika Pathirana and Marrikar were not given a post and all other plants lost. But we have Sajith Premadasa and Ravi Karunanayake doing the bidding for them. Sajith is a shameless idiot who continues to betray Ranil W

The race is on to see who can make the maximum bucks before everything collapses under the collective ‘adharmista’ hubris.

Rajitha Senaratne is being hung out to dry on his own petard. Why? Because he thought by screaming loudest about bribes and corruption, his bribe taking would be overlooked or traded for his silence. His bluff has been called with the release of a phone recording…and where is Rajitha today…..mahattaya rata gihilla !! Whom to tell no aney?

    Granville Perera

    Nepotism & The Political Brats:

*** You come across as an Excellent Story teller. These are not Bed time stories for Tamils but Nightmares which we have heard for 67 years. The Chicken has come home to roost and the UN is watching developments and will now take stock of its folly in entrusting the task of catching Culprits and punishing them to the GOSL. The primitive system is not fit for Purpose. We have to wait another 18 months for Justice.

This is why I say Mahinda Rajapaksa is the best. Namal Aiya did so much for the youth and the country. I wish he is recognized, especially the things he did for the young ones. I use to enjoy every moment of it.

Suzzy girl, I can certainly perform better than Namal Aiya. I want to meet you and show what I can do. Are you ready?

Anyone can accuse any one in Social media. People like Granville should challenge in person if they have evidence or produce the evidence in court. Hiding behind social media and tarnishing the image of politicians is also not Yahapalanaya

Prassana, a rougue like you should be ashamed to even comment on social media. Your voice is loud and clear on the recorded conversation of your demand of a bribe of 50 million. Your good father must be turning in his coffin, and may be wondering whether he fathered you at all. It may be a good idea to do a DNA test

Why is Chatura being given all these immunity from prosecution by the President. Yes, he has to be grateful to Rajitha for backing him to be President, yet allowing political brats to destroy the peace and tranquility we have gained after eliminating the Rajapaksa dictator ship.

There is no need to look for apples in Germany. We have so many comparisons from our Sinhala village tales. Chatura and similar political novices from political families have been brought up as pampered political brats as the fathers/mothers have lived on the sweat and blood of the innocent voters and have enjoyed all the luxuries at the cost of the downtrodden

There is undeniable evidence that 5 Million rupees was accepted by Rajitha’s private secretary on behalf of Rajitha with the evidence put forward through lankaenews. Why has Rajitha and his private secretary not investigated and taken in to custody. Our vote for Yahapalanaya was to eradicate this menace. Maithri and Ranil are digging their graves with this kind of inaction

I feel disgusted that I voted for Maithripala Sirisena on January 8th after reading this wonderful article by Granville Perera. Everything written is factual and should be investigated immediately. Failure would mean the permanent end of democracy and good governance.

There has not been a better exposure of the children of politicians as documented by Granville on CT. Colombo Telegraph, thank you for this and hope that you would be bold enough to continue. Politicians will try to buy you out. People like Granville need to be protected as they may be white vaned under Yahapalanaya
