With the situation in the Kandy District and elsewhere returning to normal following communal unrest there’s renewed activity with regard to a no-confidence motion being brought against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The most vocal advocate of this move, UNP MP (Puttalam District) Range Bandara has now gone completely silent. However, Minister of Social Empowerment S.B. Dissanayake addressing a gathering at a ceremony in Liyanwala, Walapane, expressed confidence that many members of the United National Party (UNP) and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) would support the motion.
Although there is no constitutional provision to oust Wickremesinghe from the post of Prime Minister through a no-confidence motion, the success of such a move would be a severe blow to his credibility and legitimacy.
Given the current composition of Parliament and the likelihood that the TNA and JVP abstaining in the event of a vote, the Prime Minister appears to be safe. However, the Daily Mirror has reported that the UNP is seeking a meeting with President Maithripala Sirisena who is also the leader of the SLFP ‘to discuss how to proceed with the unity government during this trying time.’
The SLFP, officially, has not committed itself either way. A few weeks ago Mahinda Amaraweera stated ‘the SLFP will do what is best for the country.’

As a matter of fact, drugs are also a commodity some people needs. So I don’t think that he didn’t deliver what people didn’t need. Besides, Mervyn is a rouge. We all know that. But, there are some good in the man. Those were the things that mattered for the voting public. People didn’t expect him to correct the system or uphold the national sovereignty. I dont know what you are asking Nimal. The people have voted and transferred almost 90 per cent of the country to the rule of Pohottuwa. What other evidence do you need. Everyone here and in the UNP party and hierarchy are just playing with statistics to justify their hanging on to power, as well as playing the game of rules. In truth the country has become ungovernable and there may well be street riots in the coming months to come. Just look at the reality and what is practical to do, given that there is a very narrow window of peace left to have an orderly election. The right thing to do is to dissolve the parliament, and let all parties fight it out at the voting booth. We the bloggers here need not worry who will win it because it is the voting people that will decide and not the KB pushers here. If whatever party comes up as winners, let us hope that they have enough seats to have a strong government to get on with the affairs of the country. We know now, that every politician is a rogue and they corrupt the top goavernment adminstrators too, and from now on, we cannot choose a party on the basis of corruption; may be JVP, but they fo not have the mass appeal as the two main parties. Get rid of that sly man RW and put someone like SF at the lead, then UNP is very likely to win if they want it, as SF won near winning votes and even more in his presidential campaign, only to be thwarted by MR as they were in power at the time and manipulated the votes. Now it is different. Phottuwa or UNP who cares anymore, just get this country to have a stable and strong government.

Nimal Fernando, Yes it was Gough Whitlam. A progressive Labour party PM. THE ONLY ONE To be summarily dismissed by the Governor General of Australia.
I remember that still. But here is the Wiki entry about it. Sadly now Australians are angry at what they see as free-loading new immigrants making use of these measures.
The Whitlam Government implemented a large number of new programs and policy changes, including the termination of military conscription, institution of universal health care and free university education, and the implementation of legal aid programs. With the opposition-controlled Senate delaying passage of bills, Whitlam called a double dissolution election in 1974 in which he won a majority in the House of Representatives, albeit a slightly reduced one, and picked up three Senate seats. The Whitlam government then instituted the first and only joint sitting enabled under s. 57 of the Constitution as part of the double dissolution process. Despite the government’s second election victory, the opposition, reacting to government scandals and a flagging economy suffering from the 1973 oil crisis and the 1973–75 recession, continued to obstruct the government’s program in the Senate. In late 1975, the Opposition Senators refused to allow a vote on the government’s appropriation bills, returning them to the House of Representatives with a demand that the government go to an election, thus denying the government supply. Whitlam refused to back down, arguing that his government, which held a clear majority in the House of Representatives, was being held to ransom by the Senate. The crisis ended on 11 November, when Whitlam arrived at a pre-arranged meeting with the Governor-General, Sir John Kerr, at Government House in order to call a half-Senate election. Kerr dismissed him and commissioned the opposition leader, Malcolm Fraser, as prime minister. Labor lost the subsequent election by a landslide.

“Sadly now Australians are angry at what they see as free-loading new immigrants making use of these measures.”
–
This is a great myth propagated by “white societies” around the world about immigrants of “color.” They highlight the few “boat-arrivals” – or what-have-you – to point at people of color. But most of the immigrants to these countries are skilled immigrants – they wouldn’t have skilled-migrants programs in the first place if it didn’t benefit them. What is the ratio of skilled/illegal immigrants in these countries?
–
Microsoft used to hire the entire output of some Indian collages ……….. don’t think Google, FB ………… is much different. …… England has a skilled migrant program. Australia gets doctors from all over the world ……to supplement their shortfall. Australia is shrewd enough to get other governments/tax-payers to pay to train some of their doctors …………. US, UK, ………… are no different.
–
What many people don’t see/realize in this debate is ……………. not the skills people bring with them but the amount of tax they contribute to the country! Do people realize that they work half of the year just to pay taxes? I know few skilled immigrants in few different countries – some …….. both husband and wife consultant physicians – who each pay in taxes more than the average salary of the respective countries. And certainly more than few generations of White families who don’t want them in their country …….. but enjoy the benefits provided by their governments from the tax-contributions of the skilled-migrants.

The lack of investigations, arrests and prosecutions of those involved in and instigated the riots against the Sri Lankan Muslims is way more serious and the forces behind these riots might be the same pushing for the No confidence motion against the Prim Minister too.
Why are the majority Sinhalese who are against these racist terrorists who launch these attacks in the name of Buddhism silent!?
Why don’t they come forward and give evidence to the authorities regarding the identities of these attacks of our Muslim brothers and sisters!?
The lack of a majority voice calling on the Government and the relevant authorities to take action against these criminals is doing more damage to the image and reputation of our country.
Can the government please update the citizens on what action it is taking!?

The attacks were not launched in the name of Buddhism. It was launched in the name of Sinhalese race. People all around the world are responding to Muslims like that. British EDL is a clear example of that.

Shenal,
Three stupid drink Muslim youths ( there are many of them) beat up an innocent Sinhala truck driver working for a living, and unfortunately the truck driver who is father dies. The three drunk stupid Muslim youths are arrested in in custody to face charges for manslaughter. Beating up the other driver in auto accidents is a common occurrence in Sri Lanka. Some die, some don’t.
The question is why should INNOCENT Muslims be attacked and killed based on this incident? After All the Muslims are Paras, just like thew Para-Sinhala. If you have any doubts, please check out the DNA of the Paras in the Land of Native Veddah Aethho. Those who are entrusted with keeping Law and Order, the Police and the Dept. of Law and Justice, the Prime Minister and the President are responsible for this.
This is Sinhala-Buddhist racism. Why Sinhala-Buddhist because Sinhala-Christians do not do that. This also shows that Sinhala-Buddhism, is NOT Buddhism, and is a cult, only found in Lanka practiced by the Para-Sinhala Buddhists.
The rioters should have attached all the Taverns and Kassiupu joints, because it was the the drunkards who attacked the driver, and we have many auto accidents due to drunken driving and domestic violence.
That is why, this is another case of Para-Sinhala Buddhist racism.

Amarasiri,
Muslims are not allowed to drink in the first place. Therefore, it is possible that they could do things that they are not generally allowed in their religion. They could kill in the name of their religion and yet, people like you will defend them.
Muslims are attacked in general because Sinhalese people have no trust in them. Sinhalese people believes that they use oil money to bribe police and purchase native lands to colonize this country. After incident like Teldeniya where police had neglected to do their proper duty, people’s fears had been realized. So incidentally they have taken law into their own hands.
P.S. Sinhala Buddhism is what it is. It doesn’t try to colonize the world in the name of god. So why are you butt hurt about that? If you want to follow Lord Buddha’s path please do so in private. No one can take others with them to Nirvana.

Why? Do the Para-Sinhala “Buddhists” attack Tamils because they have no trust in them? What about the Burghers and the Portuguese.. who are known as Parangios? The Sinhala Catholic and Christians dio NOT dio that. Only Sinhala Buddhists.
This is as Para-Sinhala Buddhist Racism of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. It is clear that what the so-called Para-Sinhala “Buddhists” follow is racism., that was catalyzed and accelerated by the Para-Wahhabi-Salafi religious and cultural invasion.

In the above reporting it is stated: “……..the success of such a move would be a severe blow to his CREDIBILITY (emphasis by me)……..” Whatever said and done he (RW) is a Leader of a major political party. Yet, the manner in which he assumed that and continues to hang on has been a subject of controversy. He has spent enough of his life to hang on there and suffered many a set backs. The irony is: HE NEVER LEARNS and MAKES AN EFFORT TO MEND HIS POLICIES AND LEADERSHIP QUALITIES. At this stage of political upheaval and facing very many challengers from within his own party ranks, it is doubtful and cannot expect the change the people would like him to be. After becoming the PM with the general election of August 2015, he should have REGAINED his severely damaged and lost CREDIBILITY; but unfortunately for the UNP in particular and the country in general, there was no CHANGE absolutely and continues to be a WEAK LEADER. Over the decades he has become a LAME DUCK with no signs of recovery. The irony is, he refuses and does not want to make an ASSESSMENT of HIMSELF, either to CORRECT or GIVE UP. In that situation, is there any use of his “SURVIVAL” for the UNP or the country? Let the “No Confidence” motion go either way; but no CHANGE would come about for the betterment of the UNP or the country. The only result would be the RISING OF THE ONCE DEAD TYRANT. For that this CREDIBILITY LOST, leader PM is answerable and accountable.

Prediction ,possible of a sophisticated civil war in Sri Lanka ,after 2020 .
If there would be one God forbid
,it will probably be fought purely using drone bombing all over the Island , not a single home or family may be safe .
.
Today all Sri Lankan kids are so smart but sadly grown with hate ,suspicion and filled with revenge, may get involved, I see no hope in Sri Lanka other than evicting the entire Muslim community by peaceful way by encouraging them to leave , if not There will be another bloody war for sure ,MR has no other choice ,same with LTTE he did not want war ,but As he was obliged and indebted to Kaurana and other countries who had advanced him.,he had to ,same with Muslims ,he won’t have peace as long as he live until he flushes out the entire population, unless the Muslim MPs are willing to bring in a lot of petrol dollars to repay his debts and Bring in NATO as a new Allie & forcefully set up a NATO base

It is interesting to note that those who were kicked out by the voters but brought into the Parliament by the President through the “Pinata Seat” are trying to vote to kick the Prime Minister out who was voted in by the voters. Who has to take the blame for this crazy situation, its none other than the President who brought these rogues who were kicked out by the voters.

Buddhi Perera,
Yes, there is a massive campaign going on against RW by JO, (Sak)kili Maharaja, Ada da Rena, (Kudu)Hiru and some other print media. Mahinda Rajapaksha was trying to destroy UNP by taking around 65 UNP members but Mahinda still could not harm the party because of RW. May be Ranil can’t act like Mahinda Rajapaksha but the man has a vision. Now Gon Silisena is trying to do what Mahinda Rajapaksha couldn’t achieve. True as you said RW will have to go one day. There are some good, educated and capable politicians there in the UNP. but it takes time for them to get the responsibility of leadership as UNP is the biggest single party in the country. But Sajith Premadasa should not be the next party leader as he was paid by (Sak)kili Maharaja to chase Ranil out from the party leadership when the party was struggling at the hands of Rajapaksha . Also he is a carbon copy of Mahinda Rajapaksha as par as the 2.50 Patriotism is concerned. I have no doubt RW will survive this time also but he has to make a way for young blood to replace him under his watch..

This will fail. JO crooks and the few SLFP crooks including the corrupt crooks of MR regime will fail. RANIL WILL NOT LOSE and he will become next President and rightly so.

SyphiliticBrain / March 19, 2018
The US Embassy and Atul Keshap are actively working behind the scenes to make sure this fails. It includes secret meetings.

Ranil may not be perfect but he is the best and safest hand for the UNP (and for the country).
Appa Sira will try everything against Ranil. He wants Ranil out, so he is asking his SLFP Ministers to go against the Prime Minister. A real double cross this Appa Sira is.
If Ranil goes, Appa Sira thinks he can win in 2020. This is possible.
If Ranil is dumped who will replace him?
Karu J – My God!!! The man who defected the party with 17 others to get SLFP minister posts!! Don’t forget that he joined MR. So how can this brutas be given the plum position – head of UNP and Prime Minister!?
Karu J, My foot.
He is too old anyway.
Sajit – too young and immature. He has no major support within the party. If Sajit becomes the head that will be the end of the UNP. UNP will go into disarray. Sajit is well known for his croocked deals and immoral life. Who cannot forget the manner he gave jobs to people in his constituency based on height! What an idiot this Sajit is. The man who pelted stones at Siri Kotha. There is the fake currency note drama that hangs around the Premadasa family mainly due to the involvement of Dulanjali.
Harin, Sujiva Senasinghe- immoral and boysih characters. The country will be in deep water in these morons’ hands.
Ravi K – has burnt his bridges. Though intelligent crooked to the core.
Mangalaya – the country’s people hate him
If Ranil is gone (sadly); Sarath Fonseka is the only available trump card for UNP. A honest man with very high integrity.
If Ranil survives that is the best for the UNP, otherwise UNP will disintergrate and will go into obliviation. UNP will collapse like a pack of cards. For next 35 years they will not be able to come to power.

You forgot Gayantha Karunathilake, an unassuming character with unquestionable integrity with the personality to be a leader. He may lead the party one day.

Quote from article ~ “Although there is no constitutional provision to oust Wickremesinghe from the post of Prime Minister through a no-confidence motion, the success of such a move would be a severe blow to his credibility and legitimacy………..”.
If this is correct then what a way to embarrass RW!
By the way is there a Joint Opposition Party in parliament?

AKD has borrowed from UNP Rs Laks 23 to pay their debts. So, AKD will not allow JVP to vote to remove Ranil. TNA also got money from UNP so they do not vote against Ranil. I heard Sunil Handunneththi has signed something for confidentiality I suppose, because of that he can not expose the bond scam. IT looks SB diaasanayake lost Meda Mahanuwars. SO, he si contesting walapane or Navalapityya. Maithripala sirisena is head of the SLFP. SLFP is not commiting to the motion, Maithripala got money from bnd scam, so he cannot talk. This is Sri lankan politics. voters have no choice. IF gota talks about elelction he will be jailed. champika Ranawaka says he doe snot havee money and only junk Jeep. which Mahinda Rajapakse’s people tried to crash a motor bike and destroy it.

225 people have taken 21 million hostages. I think not only Ranil every one of them is shameless and naked. Dayasiri Jayasekara had said now Ranil runs the whole parliament. Ranil shouuld have some strong backing that is why he is behaving like this.

better for ranil to go.We need reforms to the UNP and with ranil at the helm it will never happen.Hope the next leader won’t be that stubborn type and will listen to the other UNP’ers and the people.
mahinda was wanting ranil to stay on.He even contacted ranil to find out whther he is going to resign and was happy that he said no.Now he has made a complete volte- face a nd has brought in the no confidence motion. He will regret it one day when the UNP with fresh leadership and new faces becomes a reinvigorated party.Probably aapa sirisena must have promised him the moon at the late night meeting he had with him.Aapa sirisena also just like mahinda will make a volte -face one day after eating one last meal with mahinda.

Vajira KAriyawasam IS salivating behind Ranil to beomce the PArty leader and the PM. but, he has his own baggage. He got money from rohingyas. Chamara (Rajapakse) knows it and say Wajira is not good in talking or in meetings. He has lot of baggage behind him and now he is wating to break open Ranil’s Pinkete which he rewards every one with those. I heard Ranil says “Aran palayan umba owna tharan”. Even Nihal Jayawickrama had got money he says executive presidency does not exist. IF so, why Ranil is not taking right out I think Wajira has told if he wins he will take back Ranil. but, I don’t think Ranil loses it. IT is just political manoever to get publicity another thing Vajira Kariavasam had done is Steal from School children’s cloth give away. Even Deaf and bliond girls are wearing vry short gowns and their underware are in the open. That had happened with Tamil girls. HE says, he cannot live like this and even during the king’s time they lived from the govt (Kariya vasam). H he had suggesgted about school children cloths to muslims too and they did not agree. Muslim problems may have some connections to that too.

Jehen Perera representing NGOS, INGOS and all the anti-sinhalsa forces need confused ORUMITHTHA govt to be really united. KUMAR DAVID thinks gota and Avant Gurd is quantum entanglrment and he wants GOTA o to be jailed. Jayadeva Yuangoda also has similar view. Jackol Opposition aka Phototuwa wants some thing else and Mahinda Rajapakse is said to have apcked his suitcases in case he had to move to Temple Trees. All others say they are not for it. that is typica Sri lankan Democracy.
