British Prime Minister David Cameron who watched the controversial documentary No Fire Zone by Callum Macrae over the weekend, tweeted that he would have “serious questions” to raise with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa when he arrived in Colombo for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) later this week.

Cameron said on his official Twitter account that he had seen the documentary that alleges to show footage giving evidence of serious war crimes committed by the Sri Lankan armed forces that it had been a “chilling documentary.”
Amid pressure for the British Prime Minister to boycott CHOGM in protest against Colombo’s terrible human rights record, Cameron and members of his Government have repeatedly assured the Parliament and the media that they would be going to Sri Lanka to “talk tough” in person to the Rajapaksa regime.

Narin we all feel the pain when our own brothers and sisters are killed. I too have lost a few close friends to these senseless acts. However, We seem to missing point here. A terrorist organisations very definition does not allow it to fall under any jurisdiction and is not committed by states but rather by groups of people. The question of genocide or democide arises when a government turns a blind eye to killings when they could been prevented. Democide is the murder of any person or people by a government, including genocide, politicide and mass murder. Democide is not necessarily the elimination of entire cultural groups but rather groups within the country that the government feels need to be eradicated for political reasons and due to claimed future threats.
The killing of innocents could not have been prevented, but could have been minimised. The videos if true are quite damning in every sense. If the government thinks it’s clean then it should prove to the world that it’s clean. We are a small spec in this whole world, we cannot pretend to think we are mighty when when we are not. We need the help to build our nation to its past glory…not for us but for our future generations.

The bitter truth is that these spineless subservient people had betrayed the trust placed in them the by the people and their democratic rights, guaranteed under the ‘so-called supreme law, the Constitution.
UNP cannot not absolve from this responsibility. Recently RW openly boasted that he ‘never ratified international treaties that binds Sri Lankan Government of its responsibility to honour the fundamental rights of the people recognised by the UN charter’.

Be it in a country, region, team, minority voices are being suppressed. Depending on the composition, this is though varied. And education of the folks are the other crucial factor that plays there a key role. I know this very well having lived on the west for such a long time. It solely depends on the folks that have been met with the problems. Their culture, tradition and religions also play a great role here. See the problems of Kurds in Turkey, Irak are somewhat similar to that of lanken tamils. I really dont think that the problem by 83 was that crucial with the tamils in SL because most of tamils were not neglected to the manner palestinians in Israel, kurds in Turkey and Irak have been.
