His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi Prime Minister of India

South Block, Raisina Hill

New Delhi-110001,

India

Your Excellency,

As a Member of the Northern Provincial Council of Sri Lanka, on behalf of my constituents and myself, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations and heartiest felicitations to your Excellency, as you begin your premiership of the greatest and the largest democracy of the world. I recall my meeting you in September 2007 in Chennai, during the funeral for late BJP leader Mr. Jana Krishnamoorthy. I then stated to you and wished you that one day you will be the Prime Minister of India, and I am delighted to see that wish has become true.

As the great people of India have given you their historic endorsement and mandate, we Tamils living in Sri Lanka too are very hopeful of your leadership and sincerely believe your leadership will lead to a political solution that offers us our legitimate political rights along with equality, dignity and justice. I also recall my meeting with the media at the BJP leader Mr. L. K.Advani ‘s residence in New Delhi on December 18, 2008, where I talked about the destruction of more than 1000 Hindu temples and the killings of thousands of Tamils in Sri Lanka by its armed forces, and stated in public my hope that if the BJP ever came to power the sufferings of the Tamils could end. I am now very hopeful, with your leadership our sufferings in Sri Lanka could end.

Your Excellency, as you know, the successive Sri Lankan leaderships have repeatedly refused to offer the Tamils their political rights. All the negotiations and agreements between the Tamil and Sinhala leaderships were never implemented due to the intransigence of Sri Lanka’s Sinhala leadership. As Your Excellency knows well, even the Indo-Lanka Accord of 1987 has not been properly implemented by Sri Lanka. The government of Sri Lanka has demerged the Northern and Eastern Provinces which were merged as per the Indo-Lanka Accord. Sri Lanka even refuses to implement the 13 Amendment in full, despites its obligation to India and promises to the International Community.

Having gone through more than 65 years of injustice by successive governments of Sri Lanka, Tamil people are fully aware that no political solution will reach us without the direct and active involvement of India. I therefore, wish to urgently bring the following issues to Your Excellency’s kind attention:

  1. Help halt the ongoing Genocide and the oppression of the Tamil people: halt systematic Sinhalese settlements and land grabs in the Northern and the Eastern Provinces, and demilitarize the Provinces.
  2. The Tamil people do not believe that the 13 Amendment could lead to an equitable political solution that meets the aspirations of the Tamil people, and I request your leadership towards a solution which can, at the minimum, offer a true federal autonomy to the Tamils in a single merged North-East special region.
  3. To meet our urgent need for our medical and educational needs of the Tamils, I request Your Excellency makes arrangements to send Tamil speaking doctors, and English and IT teachers from Tamil Nadu, to help us rebuild our livelihood.
  4. Help solve the issues faced by the fishermen from both India and Sri Lanka.
  5. Help create closer economic integration between Tamil Nadu and the Tamil speaking Northern and Eastern Provinces.

May Your Excellency enjoy success in every one of your endeavors. Thank you.
Yours sincerely,

M. K. Shivajilingam

Sri Lanka should some Patriot – Act kind of legislation to arrest prosecute people who are asking for foreign involvement in Sri Lankan affairs. They destabilize the country.

“A so-called Native veddha worshipping western but.”

Does this apply to patriots like Weerawansa, Ranawaka, Ven Ratana, Gunadasa Amarasekara, Nalin de Silva etc?

Foreign involvement is necessary in Sri Lanka because the corrupt and disreputable politicians who wield the reigns of power here are utterly incapable of governing this country in a just and equitable manner. The citizens would be much better off if Sri Lanka surrendered its sovereignty and reverted to being a colony of some other civilized country.

We don’t need a president or prime minister; what we need is a colonial governor to rule this country and maintain law and order, preserve communal harmony and usher in economic prosperity for all and lead us into the 21st century!

“Modi will face the fate of Rajive Gandhi at the hands of terrorists?”

Chanakyapurya knew it the time it happened in every detail and got the issuer President within the year.

The terrorist gang is now headed by Gooo`ta familial and the dropouts Douglas etc of LTTE.

So keep off Lankian Lallu ballu, the Brahman Government is supreme now and don’t need advice from undesirable SC/Tribal s from across the straits.

If you continue we will bomb you like we did to Bangladesh in 3 days and that would be 10 times the carnage you can do to the meek with your stupidity.

Remember the Americans created Muslim Bosnia.

First Jayalalitha and now Shivajilingam trying to lick Modi’s backside.

Whatever happened to the rhetoric and the demands when the Sonia Ghandi’s minority government was in power.

The very articulate and passionate Tamil politician-patriot Shivajilingam usually takes extreme pro-LTTE positions. He is a popular, fearless Tamil leader/orator and does not hesitate to call a spade a spade. In this appeal, he mellows down to reality and does not insult or revile India – the standard pre-occupation of die-hard LTTErs who, somewhat unfairly, blame India for all Lankan Tamil ills. Much of this really should be laid at the foot of the LTTErs themselves which Mr.S, whom I believe, is a close relative of the late LTTE leader VP, will concede.

I agree with the responsible plea of Mr.S to the Indian PM and particularly that in which he pleads for assistance for English/IT teachers. As before, it is also education that will take Lankan Tamils out of their long sufferings. A fully-fledged University of our own must remain the priority of all Tamil leaders, bearing in mind the Sinhala regimes will oppose this tooth and nail now that their system of Education remains in tatters. The de-merger of the NEP is yet another priority in which EP Muslims, considering this week’s events in the South, are likely to work much more closer with Tamil aspirations.

If India helps in Lankan Tamils gaining their just dues in internal self-rule (not Separate State) it will be largely as a result of the poor anti-Tamil prejudice, lack of foresight and adamancy by the Rajapakses to yield to reason. Poor diplomacy and reading of the other side by the Rajapakses failed to capitalise on the new opportunity created by a new regime in Delhi. This is a grave error by the Sinhala regime.

By encouraging Pakistan and China to inhibit India’s security interests the Rajapakses unnecessarily increase the space of uneasiness between Sri Lanka and India. Modi choses to go to Bhutan, a nearby SAARC neighbour, to herald the coming of events he attaches much priority to regional cooperation to ensure India’s security. The Rajapakse regime falsely spread the news Sri Lanka will be the first country Modi will visit. The sooner the Rajapakses make amends with Modi and Jayalalitha the better for their own political survival.

While he write to PM Modi to say that “Tamil people do not believe that the 13 Amendment could lead to an equitable political solution that meets the aspirations of the Tamil people”, he complains 13 A is not implemented in full. This is gobbledegook. And that’s why Sinhalese do not believe a so-called political solution can ever be reached with Tamils.

Let’s face the the truth. Tamils want an Eelam in the North and do not want Sinhalese there but most of them chose to live in the South. Sinhalese want a unitary Sri Lanka and they don’t mind Tamils live in the South.
