His conduct as Army Commander appeared to be well balanced. Outwardly he even supported the HRCSL regarding troop selection etc. But having learned a lesson in casting a useless vote in 2015 for Maru Sira and Bond Wicks, I am more circumspect now. I am interested to know where was he and what was he doing during the period from 1988 – 1990 in the process of quelling the JVP insurgency. Was he in any way had anything to do with extra-judicial killings during that time? One needs to probe deep. That would reveal what kind of guy he can be under trying circumstances.

People in Sri Lanka generally vote for candidates from two main parties only. .JVP will get some votes. Mahesh, Naga and couple of ther ones are there to split the votes. But it does not make much difference. Because people already have decided who to vote for.

I am told Pujith Jayasundara is now interested in running for Presidency. Pujith’s main argument is at least he knew through his intelligence units about the impending Easter attack. However Mahesh got to know it only after the fact via the web and the newspapers. While Pujith was a half failure, Mahesh was a total failure. I think I might vote for Pujith if he contest.

The architects of NPM were promoting Rohan Pallewatta at one point and then Nagananda Kodituwakku. Suddenly they turned to a military man. Why? They think if Mahesh can take at least 1% of the votes cast, that might help in not allowing Gota the 50% + 1 in the round one. Jayampathy Wicks is working with JVP to get the second “manape” against Gota……………All of them are working in cahoots with each other.

I’m following this carefully, and discussing it with people “in the know”, but yet it may be that I will be as wrong in my speculations as I judge most commentors to be.
    .
The Alternatives as a Group have noble intentions, but have been unable to agree on what to do, which is sad. If they organise themselves properly they could easily win this election because the two big parties are at sixes and sevens, and the people are pretty fed up with both.
    .
Anyway, they are all decent people and I’m confident that only one will be a serious candidate, while the others efface themselves. It would be good if they do this before nomination, because the system of voting is pretty complicated, and the average Sri Lankan voter is even more pathetic than the candidates.
    ,
Yes, given the talents possessed by the Alternatives (“Vikalpa”) this is a pathetic display. We’ve got to learn how to make compromises. The man I’d have liked to see as the sole candidate is Dr Ajith Colonne. I’ve not met any of these people (bar Nagananda, briefly). It looks as though Colonne is now out – but he cannot be ruled out. And if it is somebody else, I do hope that the team will stick together.
    .
Yes, the situation, as I understand it, is that the person to contest from the Alternatives could be somebody else. I don’t like the idea of having a soldier as the Nation’s leader (even with reduced powers), but if he is the collectively agreed upon, it would surely be childish to threaten to not vote for him.

This Presidential Elections is not about Country at heart but all ganged up to prevent Gotabaya getting votes. Funny Sri Lanka. Wonders never cease.
Voters have a big ask. Do they vote to deny votes for Gotabaya or do they want to vote for someone who will do for the country.
In all this once again a Western connection. I ask the the people to stand up and do what is right.
Yahapalanaya coming to power also has done nothing for the Country.

The Country relegated to the Dustbin by politicians and voters are aimlessly using their vote.

@thondamany – do what for the country ?? I like to see a candidate tell that he will recover all the looted wealth of the country by the previous politicians and high officials. These are people who made the country bankrupt by fraudulent means.. Such a person should get the maximum votes
