Ambassadors and High Commissioners of the OIC countries in Sri Lanka have expressed concern over growing anti-Muslim violence and sentiments, pointing out the intimidations of Muslims could have regional and global security implications.
They have noted with concern the threats levelled against lives and the livelihoods of Muslims due to the prevailing conditions and how even a minor incident of violence could have a snowball effect, due to gaining traction on social media.
“Therefore, we, the representatives of the OIC countries, urge the friendly government of Sri Lanka to take every measure necessary to prevent communal violence and to take swift, stern judicial action against the perpetrators, regardless of their religious and political influence in the Sri Lankan society,” the statement further noted.

The Joint Statement of the Ambassadors and the High Commissioners of the OIC Countries in Sri Lanka
Communal violence targeting Muslims in Sri Lanka has regional and global security implications. The developing situation over the past few days has been extremely worrying with regards to the safety and protection of the Sri Lankan Muslim community, including some foreign Muslim refugees. The lives and livelihoods of Muslims, including their local stores and large business establishments, are threatened by the prevailing conditions with unforeseen, dangerous consequences.
The Muslim community across Sri Lanka is deeply worried about the politically motivated intimidations and provocations, which HE President Maithripala Sirisena pointed out in his Iftar reception statement last evening.
We all know that even the smallest incident in an isolated Sri Lankan village can be recorded and shared online for mass viewership, stoking widespread violence and counter-violence. And the ongoing divisive, hate speech that demonizes and excludes the other hardly helps remedy this grave situation but worsens it, which should be a cause for our shared concern.
As longstanding friends of Sri Lanka, the diplomatic representatives of OIC countries promote peace, stability, and harmony among the people of Sri Lanka.
And we encourage them to seek unity in diversity, which underpins the attractiveness of Sri Lanka as a tolerant and peace-loving nation with a heritage that fosters “doing no harm to others.”
Therefore, we, the representatives of the OIC countries, urge the friendly government of Sri Lanka to take every measure necessary to prevent communal violence and to take swift, stern judicial action against the perpetrators, regardless of their religious and political influence in the Sri Lankan society.

Looking him up in Wikipedia I find he was ‘descended from the Sheiq Fareed family who arrived in Ceylon in 1060” & ‘paternal grandfather of Sir Razik Fareed.’ He was also built the GPO in Colombo, Colombo Customs, Old Town Hall in Pettah, Galle Face Hotel, Victoria Arcade, Finlay Moir building, the Clock Tower, Batternburg Battery and many other buildings still standing today (2011).’
When the British Governor opened the Museum in 1977, he asked what honour Wapchie Marikar wished. WM simply requested that the museum be closed on Fridays. This wish was granted though I think it is no longer observed.
If it hasnt been done already, perhaps it is time for a history of the Muslim contribution to SL to be compiled.

Re the Muslims/Moors, permit me to suggest a couple of books. “Muslims of SL: Avenues to Antiquity”, a compilation of research papers by Sinhala, Tamil & Muslim scholars presented at a seminar in 1974; edited by Dr M.A.M. Shukri. And “Zeylanica: A Study of the Peoples & Languages of Sri Lanka” by Asiff Hussein (2009).
The latter has a v interesting section about how Tamil came to be spoken by many SL Muslims, despite their West Asian origins. It also delves into genealogical history, pointing to some families with very ancient genealogical records. (Of course, we might add a little bit of salt to Sir Razeek’s claim, but maybe it’s not so wistful after all). Hussein also records that a number of very old tombstones have been found inscribed in Arabic. The earliest (as at 2009) has the Hijri date 133 A.H., which is 750 A.C. But he also gives other sources which suggest that there were Muslim settlements here even B.C.
If you would like to know how Tamil, & Tamil names came to be used by them (apart from the fact of marrying locally) you should read his section on ‘The SL Moors & their Language’.

They were not involved but were quietly and covertly supporting these activities , the women ,dressed in their beautiful black Arab Abbayas, Hijabs, Nikabs, Burkhas. The men in their long Wahhabi Arab beards, gowns . All now being aggressive, arrogant , with their new found gulf funded Arab wealth , and their Wahhabi/Salafist religion. If you go to the Muslim areas in the east , especially Satankudi , you get the impression that you are in some Gulf Arab land. If anyone interested read an article in today,s Daily Mirror on Dr. Shafi,s wife , who is also a doctor and working in the same area. She says their daily living became a struggle following the antics of Ganasara in 2017. Rumors were created then about her husband and she believes another lady doctor, who works in the same hospital, is behind this disinformation( who,s husband is a high ranking police officer )out of professional jealousy. Finally today a professor, past president of Gyn & Obs and SLMC ethics committee member came out stating “Kurunegala sterilization is highly impossible”. Given this information it is worth pondering further, the real facts and then come to conclusion. What is taking place now is media monks, politicians and public are exploiting the situation for political mileage, as they usually do.

Your medical knowledge is very high. I might try to guess, if you not in OB GYN, you might be in gastroenterology like other stomach related fields. Earlier you commented very well on this matter.
But, here the case has not gone to the height to use any OBGYN technology. Still it is at lower level, the lower part of filing a legal a case. Yet, it is being accepted that it is technically possible, but there were few constraints, for being successful sterilization on large numbers.
The first question is, not the 8,000, but how even the lower no, 4,000 can be involved? After more than 650 women had come forward to file action, now the 4,000 looks like well with the limits. In medical cases, just only 5-10% being ready to go for legal wrangling is quite normal. For me, number part’s doubt is now cleared. But that never tells that he sterilized even one woman, without consent.
The professor tries to explain though deep OBGYN mechanics. His main explanation of caesarian doesn’t go up to Fallopian tube is covering only descending. The case is “Rs 1000 note blocking fallopian”. While contraceptive techniques use both ways blocking, ascending and descending. His explanation is not complete.
The problem with the case is, police advertised too early the women to come for witnessing. If you read on review websites, you will see clients have complained on all doctors, without exception. So if one advertises, at least few of these complainers will be participate in that case. This looks like the police can even build case evidences on any professional, but there need not to be real police complaint by any client. In the West, the police first investigate the very first complaint. If it is indictable complain, then they call for other clients to come forward.

We are digressing from main issue. There are two curses haunting SL. One, Islamic expansionism, extremism and violence. Two; Sinhala racism. Both need urgent attention. A code of conduct for Muslims have to be drawn up first from attire, attitude, population expansion and double game. Entire Islamic practices and places of worship have to be monitored. Travel to Arab countries fully monitored. No Wahhabism. No arabisation. On the other hand Sinhala must be made to think, analyse, study, and inquire. They panic for nothing owing to their mythical origin unsupported by any evidence. Their inferiority complex have to be alleviated. Give them a sense of security. As long as Sinhala extremism exist Islamic exploitation will continue. Muslims are good at fishing in trouble waters. But innocent Muslims, like all others have to be protected.
