On Jan 8th Rajapaksa’s Thugs, Goons, Drug peddlers, Rapists And Murderers Will See Their Day Of Justice Dawn: Karu

“The common opposition wishes to thank the Rajapaksa regime and its provincial level goons for their demonstration of their true selves once again. They have served to remind all Sri Lankans of how desperately this country needs change. Intimidation and violence is not going to hinder the juggernaut that is going to create change in this country at the next election. The Rajapaksa regime has sensed opposition momentum. It has witnessed the peoples’ power our movement of righteous forces. This is the reason for their behaviour that resembles hooligans and lunatics escaped from the asylum.” says Karu Jayasuriya, the Chairman of the Leadership Council, UNP.

Issuing a statement today, Jayasuriya said; “This circus ends on January 8. On that day, all of these thugs, goons, drug peddlers, rapists and murderers will see their day of justice dawn. The justice that cannot be expected from the Rakapaksa regime will be delivered by the people of this country.”

“Say no to violence and impunity. Vote against the Rajapaksa thuggery and intimidation. Vote for Maithripala Sirisena and a new country.” he said.

We publish below the statement in full;

The recent violent incidents targeting rallies and activists of the common opposition amply demonstrate the lack of democratic space under the dictatorial Rajapaksa regime. It is the best evidence of the urgent need to change course before this state terror and violence consumes us all.

An election meeting of the Common Opposition which was scheduled to be held in Haputale came under attack by Government goons just 10 minutes before the arrival of Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe. The meeting was organized by Opposition Leader of the Uva Provincial Council and former UNP Parliamentarian Harin Fernando.

On Sunday, prominent local members of the UPFA assaulted artists and civil society activists in the President’s home district of Hambantota, injuring several. The UNP Opposition Leader of the Hambantota Municipal Council Auyb Khan were attacked by Rajapaksa goons at a protest campaign organized by civil society activists near the Hambantota bus halt. This attack was led by the infamous Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando of toy pistol fame. The opposition has been at the receiving end of his heavy handed thuggery only a few months ago.

In that instance, Fernando an elected representative of the Ruling Government got away with assaulting and intimidating members of Parliament from the UNP on a fact finding mission to the Mattala Airport. Ludicrously, he later claimed that the pistol he was wielding was a toy. This farce was accepted by President Rajapaksa who rather than admonishing his minion went on to reward him for his loyalty. Eraj Fernando is a symptom of the disease the Rajapaksa government has inflicted upon this country. From the highest echelons of power to local level politicians this regime has not only provided impunity for corruption and violence to thrive – it has actively encouraged these criminal activities. It is for these reasons that a person such as the Hambantota Mayor who should be behind bars for his previous crimes is today at the forefront of the Rajapaksa election campaign in the District. He is but the lower end of the spectrum of the disgusting array of corrupt and violent politicians who occupy political space under this regime.

As it was in previous cases during these two incidents as well, the Police had watched passively and in some cases shielded the culprits as the opposition activists were beaten by Rajapaksa goons.

The common opposition wishes to thank the Rajapaksa regime and its provincial level goons for their demonstration of their true selves once again. This is the reason for their behaviour that resembles hooligans and lunatics escaped from the asylum.

This circus ends on January 8. On that day, all of these thugs, goons, drug peddlers, rapist and murderers will see their day of justice dawn. The justice that cannot be expected from the Rakapaksa regime will be delivered by the people of this country.

Say no to violence and impunity. Vote against the Rajapaksa thuggery and intimidation. Vote for Maithripala Sirisena and a new country.

How fortunate would Sri Lankans be if what Karu says ever happens. but the general tendency is that the those thugs, goons, rapists , murderers and drug peddlers would switch sides and safeguard themselves.

Here is some thing which we all want to hear

Sri Lanka’s leader pledges peaceful handover should he lose election

“First of all, I won’t lose,” Mr Rajapaksa told the Financial Times in an emailed statement. “But . . . as a mature and vibrant democracy, Sri Lanka has always been able to handle peaceful transitions of power. But, again, as I said, I am confident we will come out victorious.”

As long as they are not appointed to Parliament and given a bunch of military personal to help out with tier gooning activities (my3s ston may get such perks) – it will be a big step froward in Sinhalese Politics. All these time they were gooning with the minorities and that was Ok for both parties now they are gooning against themselves.

The de-gooning of Sinhalese polity is a first and necessary step from their current state of globally recognized genocide perpetrators.

This is the biggest problem and in its essence it is a cynical disrespect for and subversion of the rule of law which the common candidate has shown himself quite comfortable doing. Yet even educated people do not seem to want to see this.

My bet is that we will find ourselves back at square one far sooner than we think.

The government will do the investigations for his son, But if he offers pardon for the victim, Its likely his son’s case will be dismissed.

Sinhalese have realised that have been cheated by few Sinhalese thugs and criminals like KA Sumanasekara. They knew Gotapaya lead BBS have sponsored for destroying Buddhism. They want to create an image that all buddhists are murderers and criminals. In fact they have been supported by world worst Mafia’s.

I have no evidence that the Rajapakse regime is at the root of all these goon assaults on the opposition, but they are certainly not doing anything to discourage them. These goons are not doing any favours either as any legitimate victory would be put down to as won through intimidation by them.

    My friend Karu,

“Police had watched passively” – when they burnt Tamil homes when UNP was around. So what is the big differences ?

Police watched passively when Muslim homes and businesses were attacked in Aluthgama, Beruwela and Dharga Town on 15th June this year. They were all part of the Balu Sena ploy to murder, destroy and create maximum mayhem, whilst the government played second fiddle. JHU as a political party has split up and now washing their dirty linen in full public view. They even released the goons who were arrested for carrying out the vandalism. But all the captured footage has been scanned and the goons have clearly been identified. It is only a matter of time before they will receive a iknoack on their doors. The stupid ileaders of this country tried to create a new enemy in the form of Muslims who they could crush using the might of their Armed Forces, and thus be hailed as heroes once again. But the Muslims were not budging and remained calm, prayed in all earnest, fasted and left it to their Creator to serve due justice. We are now witnessing something and justice may be taking shape, but again, it may be again, jusy a matter of time.

Police did not watch passively but took part in torturing and killing tens of thousands of Sinhala Buddhists under the SLFP & UNP governments in 1971 and 1988. So where is the justice?

If all voters have some intelligence and there is a free and fair election, there is no doubt as to the outcome of this election. But unfortunately this is not so, particularly in SL. It is obvious for all to see that there is no level playing field for all Candidates where MR is taking full advantage of his executive powers and even going beyond that by flouting elections laws. In a true Democracy, once elections are declared, the Government goes into a ‘caretaker’ mode where the advantages of incumbency are minimised. This does not occur in SL. He even continues to appoint Ministers and Justices during this period!! What abuse of powers!!

For the will of the voters to materialise, the Opposition needs to ensure only all genuine votes are made to count and all imaginable machinations of MR and his lackeys to thwart the will of the people are negated and countered to the extent possible. In short the Opposition needs to ensure the final declared result is infact a true reflection of the will of the Voters.

There are those who are now throwing mud at MS & CBK. These are the very people who sang their praises when they were in the camp they support. Didn’t they call CBK saviour of the Nation at that time? Overnight they have become villains for the simple reason they have decided in supporting the Democratic path. I am sure most of them voted for CBK both in 1994 and 2000. What hypocrites!! Same goes for SF. At one time he was the best General in the world. But when he decided enough was enough of this Demonic, Dictatorial ruler, he becomes a villain! Hats off to SF for making that bold decision way back in 2010. Opinions one expresses need to be consistent and not contradictory if one expects to be taken seriously.

Opposition please get your act together and counter all illegal activites of MR and voters please come out in droves and make this change a reality.

Don’t count the chicks so early. The same “unsavory” characters on the Title line may be mobilized by UPFA to even to over turn public opinion. I think they are capable; so let’s hope that Karu has a Plan B as well!

Unfortunately in this country these goons are the heroes of the common man. Otherwise how can people like Mervyn Silva get so much of preference votes? This government has made people immune to thuggery and it is accepted as the done thing. Thugs are venerated as heroes in our society.

These uneducated people will vote en-masse to the president and Sri Lanka will go to a hell where these goons dictate terms to the innocent people. No wonder this why people like Radhakrishnan objected to adult franchise nearly 100 years ago. These uneducated masses who happen to be the majority are incapable of choosing between the good and the bad governance and democracy cannot operate in such a system.

“No wonder this why people like Radhakrishnan objected to adult franchise nearly 100 years ago. “

It used to be that only people who owned property, educated or nor were able to vote.

Then everybody got one vote irrespective of the taxes the person paid.

So, the have nots wanted more from the state than they contributed.
In Sri lanka, even to educate the people, there is NOT a single Sri lankan “Educated’ writer who has come forward to write the Common Sense Phamplet.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Sense_%28pamphlet%29

Herding the Sri lankan “Educated ” writers is like herding Cattle (Harak). They make noises Baeee, Baeee, Baeee only the “Educated Cattle”can comprehend.

So the Populace is misinformed, and they behave like Cattle (Harak), Madus and Mootals…

Both major political parties have used goons at local level to enforce their power. The decent man of politics today, Ranil Wickremasinghe, also used thuggery in years gone by; Gonewela Sunil is an example. However, Rajapaksa has taken the goon business to another level not seen in Sri Lankan politics before.

It is therefore traditional in Sinhala politics to use goons to bypass the law in achieving their illegal aims. Despite this big talk Karu will keep quiet once in power.

It is true that in Sri Lanka over the years, very few politicians have distinguished themselves as being statesmanlike. They have all used goons and other unsavoury methods to stay in power or to attack the opposition when they were threatened.
But what is different about the present Government is the systematic and planned use of corruption to stay in power. Not only other politicians but even supreme court judges and religious dignitaries have been corrupted – as a policy – by finding out their vulnerable points.
This kind of governance is new and unless there is a change, there will not be any future for our country.
