Over To God Tirupati

Loudest voices will dominate, irrational, ill-motivated decisions will be made and the complex arena of politics will turn into a crazy circus”~  (Anja Steinbauer-Philosophy Now, March-April 2014)

Even a sensible, balanced and informed personage like our Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, has fallen into what I call the ‘Tirupati Mental Trap.’ We used to observe how, time and again, former strongman Mahinda Rajapaksa rushed to the Tirupati Deyyo in South India-causing a measurable consternation among the Sinhala nationalists who formed the core of his political support. After all, Mahinda was not as strong as good old Tirupati. However, I had all along borne the opinion that Ranil was more strong-minded than even Tiru.

No leader in the prosperous, modern part of the world believes in God, or Gods, auspicious times, charms or pirith nool. Imagine our Malcolm Turnbull tying charms on his person! Or Merkel in Germany, for instance! Some of them might mouth ‘God,’ but that is to be politically correct among a deferential population.ranil-wickremesinghe-tirupati

The Sri Lanka case is totally different. The machine of governance is like Plato’s ‘ship of fools.’ The country is simply capricious for good rulers with a knowledge of statecraft. The best equipped to govern will have to fight hard to stay in power. “Loudest voices will dominate, irrational, ill-motivated decisions will be made and the complex arena of politics will turn into a crazy circus.”

Here’s the relevant news story from today’s (19/12/16) Daily Mirror: “Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will visit the Lord Balaji temple at Tirumala in Andh ra Pradesh, on December 22, an Indian news agency PTI reported today. ‘Wickremesinghe will arrive here (Chennai) on Dec 21 for the visit,’ it said quoting officials referring to the Sri Lankan Prime Minister’s tentative itinerary.  He will take a chopper from Chennai to reach Tirupati airport (Renigunta) which is about 130 kilometers from here and proceed to the temple by road from there, they said.  Wickremesinghe is set to return to Sri Lanka on the same day after offering prayers at the hill temple, they added.  He was in India in October last, for an official visit and had last year offered prayers at the Sri Krishna temple at Guruvayur in Kerala.”Mahinda Education Colombotelegraph

Why do Sri Lankan leaders rush to Tiru and pray to the latter? I thought they had more of the grey matter given to them from the elephant-nosed “Lord Gana.”

Again, when I reflect, who else can save our miserable Paradise? The lot that it has fallen to over decades of ‘Avapaalanaya.’ (bad governance). As things are, Yahapaalanaya will always be a dream until Tiru steps in. Tiru didn’t help Mahinda probably because there was blood in the latter’s hands and enough cash in his pockets to help himself. Even Tiru has a moral code

Just look at the state of our country: We used to have a decent and civilised constitution before the watershed year of 1971. The evil British Empire was really responsible for that constitution although Kalu Suddas (Black-Whites) passed it in the new independent Parliament. The Constitution we had over those brief years was inspired by Lord Soulbury. Persons acceptable to their areas of inhabitance were nominated by the political parties to contest Parliamentary Elections. So we had decent MPs from the different electorates-be it Devinuwara, Galle, Baddegama, Hanguranketa, Matale,Pelmadulla, Jaffna and Chavakachcheri and so on. The simple reason for this was that these candidates had passed the first test of local popular acceptability. Only, basically good men could gain such popular clearance. The Constitution of JR in 1971 changed that with proportional representation. Party bosses and the corrupt political elite within parties did the picking of candidates. Upon election, these men and women (overwhelmingly men in a misogynistic society) wouldn’t care about a local population as they represented a ‘District,’ and a District was large enough to ignore local people and to pass the buck.

The outcome? We had refuse and rubble and stinking uneducated bloodsucker boys creeping into the august assembly. The old quality of NM, Colvin, Leslie Goonawardena, Edmund Samarakkody, SA Wicks, MDH Jayawardena. MDF Banda, Gamini Jayassoriya, Ponnamabalam etc were replaced by riffraff and murky characters. Under Mahinda, we even had a guy whose occupation was to snatch gold from the necks of passing-by girls and women. To add insult to injury this rascal became a Minister. The better folk avoided Parliament like the plague.

With material like this in our august assembly what is the kind of policy-making that can get through? Your guess is as easy as mine. Even the few good and educated leaders had to bend to the majority of thugs, fools and hooligans to whom Parliamentary privilege had been the passport to a prosperous life. The outcome is that for decades Sri Lanka has had no policy-making in any areas of public endeavour. Our education has never moved with the times; our economic policy has been something worked out from day-to-day according to political expediency. Sri Lanka has had repeated trade deficits running into billions and nothing has been done to restore the chronic imbalances. We have now o worm our way into a balance of payments green area thanks to the blood and sweat and tears of our poor housemaids and other expatriates. Tourism is also bringing in dollars but this activity is extremely fragile and dependent on external conditions. In economic terms, Sri Lanka is surviving on a day-to-day basis-putting out fires and living in the “now.”

The behaviour of our MPs do not reflect in any way the perilous state of our economy. They have to be kept bribed with increased allowances, payment for attendance in parliament and, above all, with car permits. The permits are sold by them on the spot and they recoup big profits. While their Indian counterparts go about with locally manufactured Indian Fiats and Ambassadors these beloved MPs of Paradise hit the roads with Mercs and BMWs, and luxury Four-Wheel drives. What a turn of life’s fortunes to the man who snatched gold chains!

Only Sri Lankan roads mock them. Look at Colombo’s eternal traffic jams. Road accidents are inevitable. The Bus Owners association went on strike over a proposed hike in road fines. Don’t these bus owners know that speeding is impossible in chock-a-block road arterials. Recently, a cop was run over and killed by one of these buses while he was trying the impossible of attempting to manage traffic.

The other day, our forthright movie star ‘One-Shot’ Ranjan Ramanayake did give just one big shot pointing out at a particular Mahinda Rajapaksa Minister. He showed how this foul character had only a motor bike to go about with in his meagre job of an insurance sales rep. How he became an ugly rich man and was able to part with his vexed wife in a divorce settlement that cost him several hundred millions. If his irked spouse didn’t reveal we would not have known about his ill-gotten wealth. The former Minister is now a JO strongman who, like all JO men, are fighting to duck being locked in jail by the Yahapaalana government. They have made an effective presence good enough to make yahapaalana not work at all. All they have to do is to attend FCID call-ups and come out released like heroes of yore. No wonder they are seen gong on arrest with hand-cufffed wrists and beaming heroic smiles.

Astrologers cannot predict in Sri Lanka because the country is unpredictable. So we see the blind astrologer trying to eke out a miserable living by conning. The TV channels are full of these soothsayers.

The ship may be sinking but the music will go on. It is baila all the way. Thanks to Portuguese imperialists.

    Mr Shyamon Jayasinghe,

Very good piece. Finally a writer has well articulated the frustration the common man out here feels.

“The Constitution of JR in 1971”

If I am not mistaken 1971 was Sirima’s constitution. I think JR’s was later; his government came into power in 1977 or 78.

“Readers please tell me: Who else, but God Tiru can help us?”

Only we, ourselves can help us!

Mr Jayasinghe, you have helped yourself and your family by catching a slow boat out of the beloved motherland, the sunny isle of paradise. Good, you didn’t wait for any God, and gave the finger to poor old Tiru.

What we have is a thamasha called: Appe Aanduwa! Rinse and repeat.

Who knows Lord Vishnu of Thirupati will send his avatar to put things right in Sri Lanka with the major politicians requesting his services.

It’s nothing to do with God or Lord- politicians are the biggest swindlers and murders.

Its called `Political Correctness`. The Indian public has to come to south East of India to view ancient temples as the rest were destroyed by Muslims, Portugese, dutch British.
So Ranil is able to hoodwink the Indian public that he has respect for India where 95% of Hindus live. Nothing else.

your is more of stupidity seeking celebrity at your old age.

The weeping widow’s constitution was passed and enacted in 1972 and JR’s one was in 1978.

Both were not subjected to a referendum.

      People didn’t have a say.

What is important is a government that delivers in terms of clean water, reliable electricity, good roads, a school system that provides eventual jobs and a respectful environment. Whom a leader believes in and what he or she does in the field of his or her belief is irrelevant. This article once again like many other feeds on a subtle bigotry that ridicules and mocks one religion in Sri Lanka.

Levels of religious attendance in West Europe are very low. Those are post Christian societies. But if one were to look at the leaders of South Korea, Taiwan and the United States (except for Obama), they too shamelessly wore their religion on their sleeves. The same applies for the high income societies in the Gulf.

So Shyamon – learn to respect the fact that Sri Lanka is a multi-religious society and please stop the derision and scorn..

Thanks. What a beautiful piece. It took 68 years after Independence to get to get point. This is Sri Lanka. The Lankans, including the politicians, believe in all sort of things, and the Priests, Monks, Ulema and Mullah have a brisk business.

When there is nobody to help, one asks the Gods for Help.

Can’t Buddha Help? Why he is not a God? Why go to God Tirupati only. There 330 million Gods in Hinduism. They will be quite busy for some time.

Are there any Chinese Gods? They seem to have the money.

Amarasiri, you seem to agree with Shyamon Jayasinghe when he says: “No leader in the prosperous, modern part of the world believes in God, or Gods, auspicious times, charms or pirith nool. Imagine our Malcolm Turnbull tying charms on his person! Or Merkel in Germany, for instance! Some of them might mouth ‘God,’ but that is to be politically correct among a deferential population.”

        1) How about the leaders of the Islamic countries? They are devout Muslims and readily and openly say That they are.

        2) How about USA? All US leaders say ‘May God Bless America”. (And to Hell with other countries!)

        3) God Save the Queen! (UK)

        4) Shyamon says, Merkel may do it to be politically correct. So the people of Germany must be expecting her to.

But the moment anyone of our leaders turn to just one of the 330 million deities, just one, you condemn him.

Are you and Shyamon disagreeing with them going and paying homage to the Temple of the Tooth also?

          Edwin Appu,

being in Germany, thought of sending you my thoughts

“4) Shyamon says, Merkel may do it to be politically correct. So the people of Germany must be expecting her to.”

If anyone of you – being far away from European cultures- you would not judge how much the politicians are attracted to their christianity over here. In Germany, they are no blind believers as is the case in many other christianity dominated countries, but by large masses still respect the religion. Christmas get-togthers are everything for them in their busy life styles.
And this is the same for Queen guided UK too -but their tradition is unique to them while each of other countries too respect their own traditions by their own manners.

Just visiting TOOTH TEMPLE by politicians has been their tradition even if Malwathu Chapter stay as if they are fed with KIRIMATI -clay, when it goes with Balusara s threats of various kinds tremour the island nation akin faced by Tsunami in 2004 but psychologically.
Even non-buddhists are seen to be visiting Malwathu Chapter theros to be captured by spot light – for gaining publicity. All in all, what is being said anddone by Politicians in the torn island is often not connected with proper plans, they are just a nation – follow things as Buruwas would do. Latter is the reality if you would study their life styles by today.

          EDWIN RODRIGO

Amarasiri did not agree will All what Shyamon Jayasinghe said, but most of what he said, because he has support, demonstration for it.

“No leader in the prosperous, modern part of the world believes in God, or Gods, …”

In Hinduism, there are 330 Million Gods, N=330,000,000. In Buddhism, N=?, Buddha did not take a position, was silent, even though Sinhala Buddhism made him to be a God and took him up a Mountain, at least Monk Mahanama of Mahawamsa fame did that.

In Western countries and Islamic Countries, there is only one God, (N=1) for the politicians and the masses,( Nature’s God, Deist) except for the Atheists (N=0) and Agnostics (they are not sure yet, N=?) ,except in communist countries (N=0 or ?) and the Scandinavian countries (N=0 or ?).

In Western Countries, if the Politicians say openly N=0, they will not be re-elected, but their heads will not be chopped off. This is being politically correct. Because the voting masses believe in N=1, it is politically correct to say N=1, Nature’s God. Please refer to the American Independence and Constitution. They all are Deists. The Christians believe that the Deist is Jesus. The Jews believe that the Deist is Jehovah, Muslims Allah, etc.

In Islamic Countries, if the Politicians say openly N=0, then they will not be re-elected, and their heads will be chopped off. Because the voting masses believe in N=1, and it is Allah, including Christian Arabs, it is politically correct to say N=1, Allah. Please refer to the Bible and the Quran. They all are Theists. The Christians believe that the God is Jesus, The Muslims believe that the God is Allah.

If you want support, data, proof, demonstration, you will be referred to the Holy Bible and the Holy Quran.

The question of N=1, N-0, N=?, or N-300,000,000 is still under intense discussion.

Looks like for Shyamon Jayasinghe, N=0.

For further discussion on this issue, please take it up with him.

          One additional Comment from Amarasiri.

“Are you and Shyamon disagreeing with them going and paying homage to the Temple of the Tooth also?”

EDWIN RODRIGO, do you go to the restaurant to eat when you are hungry? Why? Because it satisfies your hunger?

EDWIN RODRIGO, do you go to the Bar or tavern to drink and get drunk when you want to get drunk and get stoned? Why? Because it satisfies your need to get drunk and get stoned? Remember, alcohol, ethanol, is bad for your liver and your brain, and you still do that. Why? addiction?

EDWIN RODRIGO, do you go to the toilet to eat when you want relief? Why? Because it satisfies your physical need and gives you relief?

EDWIN RODRIGO, people go to the God or Gods to get relief from fear, or get favors,? Why? Because it satisfies their Spiritual and social needs, and gives them relief.

Before Copernicus, Galileo and Kepler, the Sun went around a stationary Earth. After then, the Earth spun on its own axis and orbited the Sun. Did anything change for the farmers and fishermen, before and after? Poor Giardano Bruno got burned at the stake and Galileo suffered.

              TOP SECRET

Amarasiri, you ask me, “do you go to the toilet to release what you eat when you want relief? Why? Because it satisfies your physical need and gives you relief”?

Amarasiri, this is only for your eyes. I sometimes eat in the toilet and do the relieving too, when I am in office, in Ramadhan.

Sama, first of all you have to learn some manners. Why do you think I put the heading of my comment as TOP SECRET? Then I also wrote for Amarasiri’s eyes only. It is to prevent Nosy Parkers putting their noses in to business that does not concern them.

When someone is using the toilet don’t put your interfering nose inside. leave the man in peace until he finishes his job. After that you can go in and do whatever you like. In any case what is a curious woman like you doing in a nice clean toilet like that? Are you female Peeping Tom?

The man you wanted to be put in Guantanamo Bay (the young Pakistani) has been released. So why are you worried about him? Again putting your nose in things that do not concern you. Leave the German authorities to do their job and us to at least pass our stools in peace.

“So he seems not knowing what his cesspits drops down”. I am sure you know better than me about that because you had your nose in side properly positioned like a phase array radar.

I am also tired of reading comments written in broken English by Peeping Toms whose expertise seems to be cesspits. I am trying to think which is worse. Your English or your peeping habits. Tell you what! Write an article giving a woman’s perspective on men’s cesspits, and send it to CT. Then we can all enjoy not reading it.

I have a suggestion. If my name is there don’t read the comment. Do you understand? And don’t mess around with TOP SECRET documents.

I think CT editors know what comments to post and what not to and I don’t think they need any nosy parkers to barge in and do their job for them.

And It is no right you to ask anyone not to read after adding them so pulicly. I think you have a problem. Please dont abuse this forum for your low level comments. All these days, you keep adding incohrent comments. I really dont know why ? Just abusiving web space for stupid reasons. That is it.Sure, I will ignore anything added by you from this moment. You guys seem to be made sick being isolated in ME. Get well soon. I really don think CT does the job right in selecting comments. Low educated of your kinds should be welcome to this forum. I am afraid, that is my view.

            Dear Amarasiri

A quick reply. Hinduism does NOT say that there are 330 million gods. One of its many texts says that there are 330 million inhabits in the deva loka i.e. those who did good here and were reborn there upon their death. In the Bible, there is a saying of “hundreds of millions who are angels of the lord”. This is comparable to that.

In popular belief, people frequently talk about “This Thun Koti Devi Devathavo”, 33 Crores Gods, 330 million Gods.

Was God Tirupati one of the Gods? If not, why did Mahinda and Ranil pay homage?

Did they pay homage to inhabits?

I think all these men go after INDIAN GURUS have no brains.

Just because former idiotic state leader, no second to Idiamin went after all kind of superstitous – lanken yanthra manthra-astrologer community expanded their business as no times in the past.
Besides, to that time, RW as Oppo leader had no choice with all various setbacks the party faced – he should have gone after them too.
But today there is no reason RW or anyone to go after those men in India sending the message across to all folks in the island about the kind of Seth santhi (Blessings).

I dont think European leaders like Dr Merkel and the counterparts of the like minded countries would ever go after Vatican or anywhere each time they make constitutional reforms or any other reforms related to security thereats of any high issues. But most of them are over successful than the SOUTH ASIAN BLIND leaders have been sofar.

I respect incumbent president of srilakna-Mr Sirisena not tohave continued his trips to India for religious blessiongs as was the case with his most abusive predecessor Rajaakshe.

Rajaakshe abusd state funds for his superficial trips. No matter sum in millions collected only for those trips, but he just ignored and continued.
Also in 2014, he abused the states funds for such trips. CAN YOU IMAGINE ?

That famous Astrology peddler Vijitha Muni put a rocket up the backside of not just one, but many high roller politikkas in yahapalanaya.

Vijithamuni said that one Yahapalana heavy weight is going to karck it in 2017.

And he guaranteed that this latest prediction is as good as the last one, where Vijitha predicted a clear win for Trumpy.

Vijitha Muni gave specific coordinates of the planets, specially Saturn which sends shivers up the back of our politikkas, who are shit scared of it.

Batalalanda Ranil who is an Anglican by birth to run to Lord Trtripathi even without a T shirt to cover his tities is just unbelievable.

Batalanada Ranil must have taken Vijitha Muni’s prediction seriously.

Can Tripathi protect Batalanda Ranil from Saturn?..

Pity poor Hilary didn’t take notice of Vijithe..Otherwise she could have gone to see Lord Tripathi too…

Isn’t true that Premadasa too consulted various astrologers mostly Tamil speaking ones in his hay days?

The socialist weeping widow Siri Mao used to consult Munneswaram temple priests often and did her pooja for her good health and seeking redemption from what she and her Socialist co-workers did to the people particularly the youth who lost their life to her police and armed forces in 1971. She also used to visit Kerala.

You should also try your luck by becoming a Poosari at your local temple, may be a Grigori Rasputin of Lanka.

          No need I suppose.

At least Madam Widow ex PM got a local God to bless and protect her.

Unlike your new self claimed Deshapremi Patriot Batalanada Ranil who ran to the Hindian god, to try and avoid the Astroler Vijitha Nubin’s prediction.

Wonder how much Gold did Batalanda Ranil offer?.

Or could it be the Vellala ex CB Boss and SIL paid the bill with the LKR 5 Billion pur profit .

Did Malik Samare go there too..

    Tirupati and God

If anyone needed the proof that Man Created God, then Tirupati is a good example. Of course, here the God is not a creator like Allah but one of those minor Gods, somewhat like a subject Minister of Sri Lanka.

Still it is a good example of how stupid and gullible, that otherwise normal people, can be. Just as we had Mahinda before Ranil, they had Satya Shree Sai Baba, who is reputed to have run away and hidden under his bed, when gunmen attacked his Puttar Pati Bhawan.

Finally, this Sai Baba, one of the greatest magicians to have ever lived, died a natural death. In his place this God has come, to fool and exploit the people.

The way that Ranil and Mahinda are flocking in there, I feel ashamed to have been born to a Buddhist family, and I acquire a grudging respect for Muslims and their one and only God Allah.

When I told my Muslim friends here about Sai Baba, the God of many Tamils here, and that he died, they could not stop laughing. A God who dies? Come on you must be pulling our legs! That is what they said.

I recollect someone saying that Buddhists are fond of doing things that the Buddha declared as useless and akusala. Going on pilgrimage to places like Tirupathi Temple is one of them. Whom are our leaders trying to fool here? Buddha, the fake gods, the Tamils or the Sinhalese? Very soon they will find out that they are trying to fool themselves only.

      Edward,

When the Buddha was asked by a non-believer whether there was a God, he replied in the negative. However, when he asked the same question by a believer he replied in the affirmative.

The lesson is that if someone believes honestly in something it becomes the fact/truth and gives strength.

Unfortunately we are making deals with Gods, like we do with merchants. Even thieves and burglars make deals at Thiruppathi to share a part of their loot! This Thiruppathi temple is fabulously rich as a result.

There is nothing wrong with the temple, which does much for society, but with us.

        Dhamma and Contradictions

Mahendran, you say, “When the Buddha was asked by a non-believer whether there was a God, he replied in the negative. However, when he asked the same question by a believer he replied in the affirmative”.

I am surprised by what you have said because Buddha never played that kind of double game. He did not need to. He was not after personal gain. He had everything a man could wish for but left all that to seek for the truth.

What I know is that in his 40 odd years of preaching, there isn’t a single case of a contradiction. He consistently kept saying the same thing at different places, to different people at different times. That itself is a great thing.

In other religions there are many contradictions, even in the Quran, which is just one book saying very simple things.

In the case of Buddha Dhamma, the Tripitaka fills a large sized book case and the contents are extremely complex.

Please tell us what references you have for the above contention.

      Edwin R and fellow travellers,

Bhagwan Shri Satya Sai Baba did not claim he was God. He cannot be held responsible if millions thought he was so. Why, he even liked to watch Cricket matches – sending out the message he was like all of us. And yet, he lived the religious life and produced many miracles over the decades where millions of the educated, in India and in many parts of the world, implicitly believed in him. He had respect for Islam, Christianity, Judaism and other different faiths. He did not threaten and insult other religions as that cad Gnanassara does. There must be reason for multiple thousands to throng to the Ashram at Putparthi years after he passed away. That many Sri Lankan political leaders of different faiths – mostly Buddhist – rush to Putparthi, Tirupathi, Guruvayoor and other places in India itself is proof they have greater faith where it really matters. It shows how much of faith they have in Sinhala Buddhism.

What Sai Baba devotees did here in ME.

Hello fellow traveler Varathan. Good to have you although we are at the end of this marathon. It is never too late.

When Sai Baba was at his peak popularity, many Indians here in ME became his devotees. Some even had a special gold painted throne like chair ready in a special room in their houses in case their God happened to visit the ME. Some claimed that Vibhuthi (holy ash) dropped from the picture of Sai Baba and collected them and offered them free of charge to friends.

But the best story is about an engineer who worked with me. He was a super devotee of Sai Baba and had a photo of him, with his unique hair style, in a prominent place on his table. Even at important meetings he used to say OM from time to time loudly, to the annoyance of others.

One day a young Arab computer specialist took a scanned copy of the photo and using photoshop software he substituted the face of the Arab engineer of the section in its place. With the original hairstyle intact and only the face changed it looked just like Sai Baba because, by a strange twist of fate, the Arab looked just like Sai Baba.

This went undetected for about 6 months with the Indian man praying to the fake picture, bathing it with holy smoke and offering garlands to it. It was ironic though, that the Indian got a promotion that he was praying for from Sai Baba to become the Senior engineer of the section, during these 6 months. The Arab engineer was bypassed.

After the promotion, the Photoshop specialist revealed what he had done and everyone except our Indian had a good laugh. But then he was the winner because he got the promotion that he was praying for.

Finally, how about those Rolex watches that he produced out of thin air?

The country’s situation is very complex today. Although Ranil may be cleaner than most other Politicians, he alone can not correct the system single handed. He has to rely on the rest of the governing type, elected by the masses, the majority of whom are corrupt. Therefore if Ranil is to stand very firm, he may not last long in the system. He has to be tactful in handling issues and even satisfy the whims of others as above. True we lose our patience at times, why he does not apply the Laws of the land to the Corrupt/Murderous both within and outside. It is not only the Politicians in our society that is corrupt. The Judiciary, the Forces, the Police, the Diplomats, the Academics, the Professionals and the Public Service is all Corrupt.

As a first step former CJ Sarath N Silva should be indicted and convicted for the offense of miscarriage of Justice on the Hambanthota Tsunami scam. Then MR should be tried for the Tsunami scam, followed by all his other excesses that he has committed. Not only Sajith Premadasa but all other Politicians should be probed and dealt with deterrent punishment irrespective of Party and position. If not this mockery of Justice and this clandestine behaviour of society will continue with no end. Justice is demeaned to the point that it is better for the monkeys to wear that black coat than the so called erudite scholars who are a disgrace.

This God worshiping is a Bloody Joke where all the Murderous and the Corrupt in society seek blessings to cover their misdeeds.

      gamini,

      What you say is true.

Ranil’s strength was, he was perceived as clean.

After the Bond-fiasco Ranil’s image is shot to smithereens.

Now he is seen as no different from others, and every crook is blackmailing him and holding him to ransom.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out why he had to align himself with crooks like Mahendran and his SIL.

Ranil is an imbecile, he gets his chance after waiting in the sidelines for 20 years and the first thing he does is shoot himself in the leg.

Ranil has to realize he is not good at “little side-deals” with the crooked. For him it’s never gonna work.

Now, he is seen as a gutless, jelly-spined weak-man trying to weasel his way and hang on to power till 2020.

If he decides to be honest and straight, he will have the overwhelming support of the people.

For once in his sorry life he has to show some courage and firmly say he is going to bring the wrong-doers to justice. Not the wishy-washy claptrap he is dishing out now.

It’s better to have courage and last a week than to be gutless and die every day for five years.

    Nimal & Shyamon,
In my view 1972 constitution was introduced to erase the history or rather to distort the history of the abortions of BC and DC pacts and killings carried out to quell the Sinhala Buddhist youths’uprising. None of the religion came to the rescue the victims or deliver the justice even after the events

Those who praised the Buddhism, has failed to differentiate between the real Buddhism and the fake Buddhism practiced and propagated by some dangerous people.

On another note , Why some are asked to go back to India because they came from there by kallathonis.

When Dayan Jayatilleke, Gnanasara, Amarawansa, Gotha, MaRa , Ranil and the likes make frequent visits or stay in exile it is okay ?

Now those who said the SL problems are internal problems and outsiders must not get involved are going to East Asian countries and asking the Diaspora there to intervene with the support of their governments or the religious leaders there.
Gotha and couple of parliamentarians are doing that in Japan.

            Zoophilia
The term zoophilia was introduced into the field of research on sexuality in Psychopathia Sexualis (1886) by Krafft-Ebing, who described a number of cases of “violation of animals (bestiality)”,[7] as well as “zoophilia erotica”, which he defined as a sexual attraction to animal skin or fur. The term zoophilia derives from the combination of two nouns in Greek: ζῷον (zṓion, meaning “animal”) and φιλία (philia, meaning “(fraternal) love”). In general contemporary usage, the term zoophilia may refer to sexual activity between human and non-human animals, the desire to engage in such, or to the specific paraphilia (i.e., the atypical arousal) which indicates a definite preference for non-human animals over humans as sexual partners. Although Krafft-Ebing also coined the term zooerasty for the paraphilia of exclusive sexual attraction to animals, that term has fallen out of general use.

Seelawathie, just as Tamil does not have many letters there are other languages where certain basic sounds are missing. One such case is Japanese, where there is no ල consonant. The Japanese always confuse ල with ර when speaking as well as writing.

When I was working in Japan, we had a girl called Leelawathie in our group. The Japanese used to substitute රී where ලීී should be and you can imagine the embarrassment it caused. Luckily you are Seelawathie and no such confusion arises.

Of course Ranil has been running to Tirupati as much as Mahinda. I remember Anura Bandaranaike was a great fan of that charlatan Sai Baba.
I cannot imagine why an outwardly rational person like Ranil puts such trust in gods and temples. All that this proves is that in the minds of our leaders, South Indian gods are better than even our Kataragama Deviyo. Presumably, S.Indian gods will prefer S.Indian supplicants, so what chance have we against the likes of Jayalalithaa?
Many years ago, there was Dr.Abraham Kovoor (also of South Indian origin) who debunked astrologers, fire-walkers, light-readers etc. Unfortunately, we have nobody of that calibre now.
S.J. says: ” We had refuse and rubble and stinking uneducated bloodsucker boys creeping into the august assembly. The old quality of NM, Colvin, Leslie Goonawardena, Edmund Samarakkody, SA Wicks, MDH Jayawardena. MDF Banda, Gamini Jayassoriya, Ponnamabalam etc were replaced by riffraff and murky characters.”
Most of the above were educated at the much-maligned Missionary schools by foreign missionaries. The rot started when these schools were taken over.

The Soulbury Constitution was the best, and the politicians headed by D.S.Senanayake assured the Soulbury Commissioners that they will implement it – there were safeguards for minorities in it.

But later, it was found that minorities had almost same clout to ensure just governance, as the majority, and this was intolerable to the majority.

Hence, there were many constitutions, but, each succeeding one was in effect decided by the same group of lawmakers who assumed the membership of the farce called the “Constituent Assembly”.
Even now, this same farcical process is in force.
    P.S
The ‘divine power’ of the Deity at Thirupathy is craved only by those who feel guilty of wrong doing.

I never thought Ranil’s is as ignorant as Mahinda. Praying to God Thirupathy Shows to what extent Sri Lankan politicians are backward and underdeveloped human beings.

One prominent God Saibaba died and now this new God has succeeded the dead God.

Ranil’s may be going to a Hindu God to win the Tamil votes. These are all ways of cheating and misleading the public.

Yet there are rational thinkers in SriLanka who are aware belief in a God without evidence is ignorance.

Running with the hare and hunting with the hound

Jayalalitha was considered as a Goddess by Tamils when she was alive. Now that she has ascended the heavens, there can be no doubt whatsoever about her being a full fledged goddess. The answer to the author’s question “Why do Sri Lankan leaders rush to Tiru and pray to the latter”? may lie there.

May be that is why Ranil is running to Tirupathi, shaking in fear, to beg her forgiveness and for all we know, that may be granted.

Anyway, it looks like both the deities and the faithful are all playing a game of Running with the hare and hunting with the hound at the expense of the hare (the proletariat).

Hope Ranil will pray for his bosom pal Arjuna Mahendran too.

P.S.: Hare Rama! Look at his eyes. I was just watching the lecture of Andy Thompson’s on ‘Why we believe in Gods’ where he speaks about the cognitive power we have to discern the emotions a person is undergoing by looking at his eyes only. What I see there is Ranil’s eyes the mortal fear. And that too at Nallur or some other place. You cannot see in his eyes any of the bravado that he displays in the Parliament. If That is at Nallur – what will he look like at Tirupathy? Our worldly minds boggles at the prospect.

You are obsessed with running down Tamil at every opportunity and for no reason, shows what a nasty piece of goods you really are. Why? Because you want to hide your recent immigrant Indian Tamil origin?

Rodrigo is an typical Indian Tamil Paravan family name. Most Rodrigos I have met are Tamil Paravans, the few so called Sinhalese Rodrigos when questioned, finally admit to their Tamil origin. You your self posted that your father was a Catholic who converted to Buddhism. This means you are from a family of Tamil Paravans now masquerading as Sinhalese Buddhists and spewing out hatred towards your fellow Tamils.

Yes most poor Tamils in Tamil Nadu considered Jayalalitha as a goddess, for the good deeds she did for them and how she worked tirelessly for their upliftment. Despite all the bribery charges Tamil Nadu vastly improved during her reign and is the second most developed and industrial state after Maharashtra. However Maharashtra has this position due to Mumbai otherwise most of Maharashtra is dirt poor. This is not so in Tamil Nadu. The entire state and improved. This is why people loved her. She is a woman and a Brahmin in a very male dominated largely anti Brahmin state, however she still overcame all this and in the end was even more popular than MGR.

Most Sinhalese, especially the Buddhists considered war criminal Mahinda as a god but for wrong reasons. Jayalalitha was loved and worshipped, for her good deeds but Sinhalese worship Mahinda for the evil that he did, killing committing genocide and ethnic cleansing on the Tamils. They worshipped him for his evil deeds. No Tamil will ever worship anyone for their evil deeds. This shows the difference in the mentality between an average Tamil, however poor and the average Sinhalese. One worships and appreciates good the other has evil jealous tendencies not wanting anyone else to come up and worships and admires evil deeds. You are a good example of a typical Sinhalese. I say Sinhalese as you now identify your self as one. Educated but still nasty and evil to the core.

Lastly at least ordinary Tamils were not stupid and falling down on their knees or prostrating on the ground and worshipping Jayalalitha on the streets, that many Sinhalese did in 2009. A few power hungry politicians may have done that to her in private but no one was worshipping her and prostrating before her like what the Sinhalese did. Again to show their appreciation for evil deeds. No will worship her as a goddess. She is a human and was a god leader who will be sadly missed by her people and they will remember her for this and not for the bribery

      Go and get a life

A very good article. I don’t know how many of Buddhist Sinhalese understand the truth about Sinhalese leadership. We all know our leaders take a visit to Dalada Maligawa, Nallur Temple, Kataragama Temple and Christian curches ( I don’t know whether they visit to Islamic Mosques) as a respect (even though it is to cheat voters) for each religion of this island. But I cannot understand why they should visit to Thirupathy in South India. This shows they must have a more faith in Thirupathy Temple rather than Buddha or they must have invested their illegal money in Thirupathy Temple. Mahinda (Dayan’s Guru) and its group talking about threat to Buddhists in Srilanka By Tamil Nadu and Hindus and building Buddhist Temples in the North East and they go to India to worship Hindu God. They make people to fight each other but enjoy Thirupathy. Thirupathy is one of the largest and wealthiest Income generating Temple in India. “All is only known to Thirpathian”.

You sound to have diluted your thoughts about Ghanasara balusara, but nothing about his Guru – Mahinda Rajapakshe why ?

If state leaders get intoxicated by all kind of supertitious tricks bieng played by various kind of Kattadiyas, the nations become helpless – no need to even talk about the folks. Abasarani to all folks.

“This is the real threat to Buddhism,”

The real threat to Buddhism comes from Sinhala/Buddhists, people like yourself.

Truly saying, these men work CALLING themselves “Sinhala Buddhists” have not the least knowledge about buddha teachings. They are just intoxicated by Rajapakshe Mantra. However most of them are younger age – exception is Srinath Gunaratnam who is a sepatagenarian. So how can srilanka see it forward ?

When the Buddhists worship Buddha statues then by your own definition they are the idol worshiping idiots. Buddha only wanted followers of his teachings not worshipers.
        beware of your own folly.

We have seen how the “GOD” acts in varying mysterious ways. When a known “HYPOCRITE” visits the “GOD”, he first make him/her to come near “Half Naked” and who so ever be thinking “Godly” or “King” is made to “Kneel” and stretch the hands like that of a “Beggar”. Then the “GOD’s “Go Between” (Kapuwa) also makes all these “Mighty” thinking; but PEOPLES” Servants to act as per his “Direction” and OBEYING to them (kapuwa) is the golden rule and name of the “Game”. Now having fulfilled all those rituals, these “Godly” mighty who live to plunder the ordinary masses return to look after the “Kill”; but really to rob again. Now the GOD act in the “Mysterious Way”. How? At the opportune moment the PEOPLE are “Driven” to KICK OUT these “Mighty” thinking “Kings” and “Queens”. That FALL is very big and borne cracking; but some pretend to be still in power without knowing how and when the real “Karma” comes into play. This PHENOMENA take time, but surely it comes. Let it come.

    Shyamon Jayasinghe

Astrologers cannot predict in Sri Lanka because the country is unpredictable.

You have put forward a theory there as you know everything.

Do you have any statistics to prove this. Because, in your world, everything is rational.

    Good one Shyamone!

I thought Ranil was a monotheist.
I was hoping he would go one step further by going from one to zero. Looks
like he is going backwards. We had a supreme leader who was squeezing
some divinely blessed metal piece all the time in public. His son who is supposed
to be our dear leader does the same thing from time to time. If our political leaders
are going to believe these kind of falsehood, we would continue to be in
    the same predicament.
Let’s hope major policy decisions are made on empirical evidence and
    rational thoughts.

As Sri lankan politicians are not visionary but incompetant when they screw up, they go their and bathe in Ash to make it everything correct.

Do you think God can correct this mess ?

If the same thing happened in the west and as soon as some one finds it, the politician resigns.

In Sri lanka they hang on and keeping the mess growing up.

Tiru did not help Mahinda, becaue thiru does not exist and Ranil is also another thick head who run after non existant gods.

If we have gods, will SL be like this?
We only have devils living among us.

    Useless, Imaginary Gods.

If not for us humans, these fellows won’t be there.

It is us, who created them. They should be worshiping us. Not the other way around.

In the picture Mahinda seems after many shots of liquor and women. Very salacious-looking bastard who robbed state funds to keep himself and his kith in power. Mahinda is at least humbled before the bloody God -naked and praying for his life. Maybe it worked because that is why he has not been caught by the law. Yahapalanaya is disappointing but Mahinda and the JO is an absolute write off. Why are they not all locked up?

“”Here’s the relevant news story from today’s (19/12/16) Daily Mirror: “Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will visit the Lord Balaji temple at Tirumala in Andh ra Pradesh, on December 22, “”

Ranil and Sri lanka badly needs indian money- there is no more IMF/Obama money.

Next year the Fire Dog Trump is not going to make friends with Chicken folk. Lanka has to play to the tune of Modi and his band of bandits from Gujarat

    Shyamon,

You named the good old quality politicians such as “NM, Colvin, Leslie Goonawardena, Edmund Samarakkody, SA Wicks, MDH Jayawardena. MDF Banda, Gamini Jayassoriya, Ponnamabalam etc”. But then they were educated in Schools that followed the British system. SWRD wrested power with his racial politics and introduced Swabasha education. A very narrowing of the mind where students were made to believe that Sri Lanka was ‘Loke Uthum Rata Lankawai’. And at the same time there was a mushrooming of Pirivenas and Daham Pasalas. Gupta Vidyawa replaced western sciences. Mahawamsa myths became the truths. Monks started playing a greater part in all things political. The result is now we are all dependant on Gana Deviya and Tirupathi. MR still moves around clutching a gold talisman given by the God of Tirupathi. He was assured that no one can harm him. The belief is exacerbated that even the LTTE assassination squad could do him no harm.

Talk about going backwards – an understatement.

We Sinhalese are not black Hindus but in fact white Muslim Jihadists. We are not related to Black Indians but to White Pakistanis who taught us how to deal with separatist element as they have had prior experience with East Pakistan separatists:

The Pakistani army, consisting mainly of Punjabis and Pathans, had always looked upon the Bengalis as racially inferior—a nonmartial, physically weak race, not interested in serving or unable to serve in the army. General Ayub Khan’s (1967) remarks about the Bengalis in his memoirs reflected the typical attitude of the Pakistani’s civil military power elite:
“East Bengalis … probably belong to the very original Indian races … They have been and still are under considerable Hindu cultural and linguistic influence …. They have all the inhibitions of downtrodden races … defensive aggressiveness … emerge from this historical background …”

….. This common hostility towards an immensely rich secular culture reached a tipping point when the leader of the nationalist Awami League, Sheikh Mujib, won a national election. He was imprisoned, and the Pakistani forces began a genocide which lasted from March to December 1971. … At a meeting on 22 February 1971, the Pakistani President General Yahya Khan is recorded as saying in fury: “Kill three million of them, and the rest will eat out of our hands.” Ten million fled to India; 30 million left the cities and went to the villages. … In the first phase of the war, young men and Hindus, Awami League members, intellectuals, students and academics were targeted for murder. In the second phase of the war, women were singled out. It is thought that at least 200,000 women were raped by the Pakistani forces and their collaborators – 25,000 victims found themselves pregnant, so that is not implausible. There are eyewitness accounts of “rape camps” set up by the Pakistani forces. …
During the war, a fatwa in Pakistan declared that the Bengali ‘freedom fighters’ were Hindus and that their women could be taken as the ‘booty of war’. Imams and Muslim religious leaders publicly declared that the Bengali women were ‘gonimoter maal’ (war booty) and thus they openly supported the rape of Bengali women by the Pakistani Army. Numerous women were tortured, raped and killed during the war. …. The historian R J Rummel, who has looked as deeply into it as anyone, concludes that the “final estimate of Pakistan’s democide to be 300,000 to 3,000,000, or a prudent 1,500,000.”

This is not uncommon. All politicos including Ranil Kumari Wickremasinghe will stoop down to worshiping Satan and all his ugliness if there are gains from it.
Time alone will tell, and time alone has told the results from all this hogwash and stupid, idiotic actions.
These people have no basic self respect for themselves so how can they offer it to others. Their education qualifications should be rolled and shoved up the rear if the orifice is big enough to accept it.
More powerful dignitaries other than our idiots in the world have finally ended up in the cesspits of no return, so eventually the same fate will catch up with these slimy two headed misfits, and when it does the cesspits of no return will be gladly waiting to gobble them up.
