Palestinian Nakba: A New Phase

By Ameer Ali

Dr. Ameer Ali

“Israel has a right to defend its territories”, is an old tune sung by every American and European or Western leader whenever a new military conflagration breaks out in Palestine. But has any of them clarified at anytime what those territories are and where are its boundaries? The truth of the matter is Israel of today is the product of revisionist Zionism, as expounded by Ze’ev Jabotinsky (1880-1940), who described Zionism as “a colonizing adventure and therefore stands or falls by the question of armed force. It is important to build, it is important to speak Hebrew, but unfortunately even more important to be able to shoot…”.  Israel therefore, is an ever-expanding conquering Western counterpart, and its expansion will not stop until perhaps it swallows the entire Palestine and at least parts of the rest of the Middle East. In a sense, the European plan to partition the Ottoman Empire has still not completed.  Therefore, to talk of Israel’s right to defend its territories is meaningless.

The real problem for an expansionist Israel is not PLO or Hamas. In fact, Israel wants Hamas to be there and fire its rockets. If one cares to read the origins of Hamas one would realize that it is one of the children of Sayyid Qutub’s Muslim Brotherhood. Its Palestinian Head in Gaza, the quadriplegic Sheik Ahmed Yassin, and his Mujama al-Islamiyya or Islamic Charity, grew popular at that time. Israel cultivated close relationship with the Sheik and even funded his charity. Israel wanted him and his organization become a counterweight to secular Arafat and his PLO. Hamas is Yassin’s baby grew under the very eyes of Israel and tolerated until Hamas itself became a threat. The Sheik was killed by Israel in 2003.

Realistically speaking, Israel wants Hamas continue to exist and fire its rockets.  Because, those rockets give an excuse to kill more Arabs and acquire more Arab lands for Jewish settlements. However, it also brings in more Arabs under Israeli governance. The current phase of the conflict is the counterproductive result of that policy. Now and for the first time, Israeli Arabs have come to the streets in protest after more than seventy years of Israel’s colonial oppression, discrimination and injustice. World media is speculating about an Israeli civil war. No Western leader so far bothered to raise any concern about the fate of Israeli Arabs. More than Hamas, it is these Arabs who are now fighting. The feeling of nakba or catastrophe has engulfed the spirit and minds of these Arabs now. It is going to grow.

The worst fear is this. Israel is not going to treat its Arab citizens on equal terms, even after swallowing the entire Palestine. Either it would reduce the Arabs to the status of Australian aborigines or the Likud and far right Zionists may find a “final solution” to them as Hitler found for the Jews. Will the West continue to say, ‘Israel has a right to defend its territories’, even when that happens?

More than the West, it is the Arab leaders who have to bear a major share of responsibility to the current state of affairs in Palestine. At least after 1967, these leaders should have realized that the international community through UN will not provide any solution favorable to Palestinians. Instead of building their own scientific and military strength to counter balance Israel they succumbed to Western pressure, sought after compromises, which always ended in favor of Israel, and eventually washed their hands off from the Palestinian cause. Perhaps they are frightened of an independent Palestinian state. (Soon after the hijacking of three air crafts and blew them up by the Popular Front of Liberation of Palestine in September 1969, an unrepenting Yasser Arafat, in an interview he gave in front of TV cameras, bravely stated that his entry into Palestine would be through the Arab countries. That must have frightened the Arab leaders).

What is happening in Gaza today is total annihilation of a people left by the world to fend for themselves. Even Iran that use to shout on behalf of Palestinians has gone surprisingly silent.  That means Hezbollah in Lebanon will also remain neutral. Yet, Palestinians are fighting and will continue to fight. Israel does not want the world to know the extent of the horror it is unleashing in Gaza. That is why it bombed and destroyed the building where Al-Jazeera and other TV news channels were operating from. The longer the mayhem continues situation will become ripe for the entry of other actors like Al-Qaida and ISIS with their own agenda. Then the West will shout not about Palestine but about terrorism. The drama goes on.

Greater Israel will become a reality in time to come. The Nakba would have been forgotten. As the writer predicts, the Arab and Palestinian “citizens” will be like the Aussie Abos whose lifespan is around half that of blue-blooded Dinkum Aussies. The chosen ones will ascend to heaven from the land so reserved and be with Yahweh when the world ends. Kaffirs will burn and die.

“Even Iran that use to shout on behalf of Palestinians has gone surprisingly silent. “

Why single out Iran? What about the Arab countries? Has any Arab country spoken against the Brutal attacks by the zionist entity in Gaza? If the leaders of Arab countries have any conscience, would they be keeping mum now? Shouldn’t the Gulf countries that established DPL relations with the zionist entity recently, speak out fearlessly against the savagery let loose by the zionist entity against the Palestinians? If not now, when?

Israel’s territory is within the 1967 borders as stated by the UN Chapters.

Why is Israel defying the international laws and killing and stealing more land?
Why is Israel not respecting UN laws and Charters?
Even the nation that funds it the US does not recognize these illegal settlements.

    Sinhalayo = Palestinians
    Tamils = Jews
Jews grabbed land belong to Palestinians to create a separate State and chased away Palestinians from their land. Tamils wanted to grab land belong to Sinhalayo to create a separate State and chased away Sinhalayo from North East.

      EE,

Wrong comparison. Sinhalas = Jews. Both rule their respective countries mostly democratically and are the same population size. Both have their unique language, religion, traditions, history and values quite different from the region. Both fight terrorists and have co-operated many times in wars. They still do! Both communities vote for military men as rulers and discriminate against minorities. Both kill civilians using state power and using same weapons. SPIKE guided missiles Israel’s IDF uses today were also used by SLAF. Some drones IDF uses were trialed in SL.

After 636AD, Palestinians are Arabs. Their religion is Arabic, language is Arabic, songs are Arabic, traditions are Arabic. Like Tamil Nadu people around the world. Tamils’ language is Tamil Nadu, religion is Tamil Nadu, songs are Tamil Nadu. They describe them based on the location they live, like Palestinians (Elam Tamils, Indian Tamils, Nadu Tamils, Colombo Tamils, Malaysian Tamils, African Tamils, etc.).

All Jewish majority areas have Arabs (Palestinians) especially in the capital Tel Aviv and the correct capital Jerusalem (minorities are higher than the majority Jews just like Colombo city). But Gaza and West Bank are Arab only. Just like SL.

How can Muslims blame Jews for killing Palestinians when they themselves commit similar kind of atrocities? Muslims have carried out terrorist attacks killing hundreds and thousands of innocent civilians all over the world.
In Sri Lanka, Muslims killed about 260 and wounded about 500 innocent men, women and children who were praying in churches and other civilians in Hotels on Easter Sunday. Recently, Taliban exploded a bomb in Kabul killing 85 school girls.
Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones at others.

      EE,

      You contradict yourself! (No surprise!!!!)

Whatever side you take, one thing is clear. Only a two state solution works for SL and Israel. Just do it.

To most Arab countries Palestine is nothing but a nuisance. A nuisance that prevents them from getting closer with the US. Most Arabs don’t give a crap either.

China is trying to build a Chinese colony in Palestine. China wants ceasefire and cessation of violence, humanitarian assistance to Palestinians and a Palestinian nation. All these are well planned moves to create a Chinese colony in Palestine. We strongly condemn China’s interference in Israel’s domestic affairs. Hands off China!

MaRa in the old days was a champion of the Palestine cause.
Does he still take that Principled stand?
Or has he ditched it now, in view of the Anti-Muslim stand of the Govt?:

It was well known that the Israelis were training the LTTE and the Srilankan army simultaneously! That book titled by Way of Deception authored by an Israeli secret service agent gives the sordid details.

All wars are fought for Land and Water. The Palestinians have a cause. They are fighting to save their Territory and not the other way round.

“Even Iran that use to shout on behalf of Palestinians has gone surprisingly silent.”
    Did it?
Iran calls for international action on ‘apartheid’ Israel (https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/5/16/iran-calls-for-international-action-on-apartheid-israel)
I think that it helps to check in such matters before passing judgment.

More importantly, the author misses out on the action of the biggest culprit, but for his generalized openingstatement:
“Israel has a right to defend its territories”, is an old tune sung by every American and European or Western leader.
It is only the US that makes that declaration regardless of who is in power. European response has been far fairer than that of the US.
    For the author’s information:
On Sunday, the US blocked attempts for the third time at the UNSC to pass a joint resolution condemning the violent escalation of the Palestine-Israel conflict. (Next day, media reported that Biden has greenlighted the sale of US$735 million worth of precision-guided weapons to Israel.)
At the UNSC, China’s Foreign Minister said because of the obstruction of the US, the Security Council has not been able to speak with one voice on Palestine.
The US has fallen into unprecedented isolation in the UNSC and is completely on the opposite side of human conscience and morality.

“Even Iran that use to shout on behalf of Palestinians has gone surprisingly silent.”

Why are you blaming Iran? Iran saved Syria from US/Saudi/Israeli backed ISIS terrorists taking over that country. Hezbollah also played an important role. However, Hezbollah paid a heavy price, therefore it is difficult for them to join in the campaign against Israel at the moment. Keeping in mind that Lebanon is having other problems, especially high inflation. You should be blaming Saudi, UAE, Jordan, and Egypt. Saudi and UAE bought billions worth of weapons from USA to do a 7 year genocide in Yemen. But they will sit back and watch Gaza burn. Jordan and Egypt receive large amounts of US money to cooperate with Israel. In particular, keeping their borders closed to prevent smuggling by Palestinians. Iran is the only Muslim country so far actively fighting against Israel. But they cannot join the Palestinians directly, as there are important on-going talks in Vienna.

    Dr.Ameer Ali.
Don’t overlook the fact that Israel is providing security to the Custodian of Holy Shrines.
If and when Shias are equipped with nukes and ready to capture Mecca Custodian of Holy Shrines will turn to Allah or Israel?
