Penthouse Ravi Offers Public Super Luxury House Through Lottery

The National Lotteries Board which comes under Ravi Karunanayake, the Minister of Foreign Affairs currently embroiled in controversy over his purchase of a luxury ‘Penthouse Apartment’ in Colombo, is now offering the general public of Sri Lanka the opportunity to win and also own a “Super Luxury” house in a Lottery Draw.

Ravi Karunanayake

The move, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, follows a recommendation made by Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake. The National Lotteries Board comes under his purview as it did when he was holding the portfolio of Minister of Finance.

Incidentally The National Lotteries Board currently runs a very aggressive advertising campaign using many websites and is alleged to be paying approximately US $ 1500 per advertisement carried.

A certain website that carries two advertisements of the National Lotteries Board was recently used to sling mud at the lady who testified before the Bond Commission. This is after she provided evidence which exposed Minister Karunanayake’s recent purchase of a Luxury Penthouse Apartment at the Monarch Residencies in Colombo 3, for Rs 165 million. Notably apart from attacking Anika Wijesuriya, those websites have not reported a single word regarding the ongoing Karunanayake’s Penthouse saga.

Meanwhile B. R. Chinnaiya the Chief Financial Officer of Ravi Karunanayakes connected companies said that an amount of 145 million used to purchase the penthouse had no trace and was unaccounted for.

The witness said that the Penthouse was bought on the instructions of the wife and daughter of the minister.

Making a startling revelation before the Commission to inquire into the Bond Scandal drawing inferences of money laundering, Chinaiya said that he was instructed by the Minister’s wife Mela and daughter Onella Karunanayake, Directors of Global Transportation and Logistics (pvt) Ltd, which ultimately bought the Penthouse at the Monarch to purchase the penthouse with company funds. The balance he was asked to use the “cash from the chairman’s safe”. The penthouse was bought by the Karunanayakes using the company as a front after Arjun Aloysius paid the rent for 8 months for the period the Karunanayake’s occupied it.

Accordingly the Chairman of the company, one Lakshmi Kanthan residing in London, had brought in cash amounting to 70 million and 75 million in February 2016 and 2017 to be “dumped into the safe”.

The witness said that the cash was not accounted for in any of the accounts of the company nor had there been any paper trail. (Janaka Ranaweera)

There is no need for a Lotteries-Minister. President should take over Lotteries-Finance Portfolios forthwith.

Look at your Cabinet, Mr. President.

Your Prime Minister is a rogue.

Your Finance Minister is a rogue.

    Your Foreign Minister a rogue.

Your Lotteries Minister is a rogue.

Your Minister of Ports Development is a rogue.

Seriously, if all our ports are owned-operated by foreign countries fully or partially, why do we need a Minister for Ports? How many other rogue Ministers are in the Cabinet?

Shame on you, Mr. President. You are the Head of this Rogue Cabinet. You are protecting all the rogues.

Magampura Port deal is detrimental to our sovereignty, security and economy. Next in line is Eastern-Terminal and Trinco Oil-Tanks. At least save them. You can still tell Ranil that you need to peruse Magampura deal and China can withhold their payment until such time. In some countries, even antique vehicles are protected as national assets! Here we sell our most precious strategically located ports to foreigners.

Mr. President, we expect you to standby the country. Action, Mr. President, what we need is action. Please take over the Finance portfolio at leat now.

LTTE diaspora is roaming the country with the blessings of Finance Minister. Suren Suranthiran, who was a key LTTE man has no right to talk about welfare of Sri Lankans. What right is there to entertain GTF which was a key element of the LTTE and directly responsible for carnage in Sri Lanka, which now engages in social activities in the country while a Navy Commodore is in jail for unsubstantiated allegations of disappearing terrorists? LTTE diaspora is buying lands with the help of traitorous Finance Minister. Both present and former Finance/Foreign Ministers and the PM are betraying the nation and selling our country in style.

        What’s your point ??

Medamulana are no longer in power. You can’t whitewash Yahapalana sins by pointing out Medamulana ones

All the pre-election Big Yahapalana Talk (about missing billions, Good Governance etc ) are being proven to be utter and complete lies and/or BS (which clearly, you gleefully consumed)

Yahapalana, Mahinda Chinthana .. what’s the difference ? I dont see much except Mahinda did it to Citizen Perera’s face (perhaps that is more respectful to Citizen Perera) whereas Yahapalana clearly believes that Citizen Perera is a fool and treats him as such

There is no need to worry. At the next major election, people will reject all the crooks of both sides.

Rajapaksa clan can buy people but they can’t buy votes. The stage is open for a new person who has the backbone to rise against the Rajapaksa clan and UNP corrupt-elites.

The old stalemate politics which pave the way for corruption and looting should be rejected and those who have progressive thinking, positive attitude and constructive mentality and the desire to serve the ordinary people should come forward to make the necessary change the country is yearned for.

Our country was governed by a small number of selected families and their kith and kin for the last 6 decades with the exception of the present President. Those politicians hailing from selected families think the country is owned by them. It is time to tell them this country is belonging to the majority people who hail from ordinary families which comprised of 98% of the population.

98 percent of the resources are exploited by 2 percent of the wealthy, subjecting 2/3 of the ordinary families to penury. These resources should be equally or at least adequately distributed among the 98 percent of ordinary families. The blue collar and pink collar classes are paid peanuts while the white collar is paid excessively.

The ordinary class should rise for their rights and turn the country towards the right direction guided by Buddhist Socialism which promotes justice, social equality and wealth sharing.

Champa – you are 200% correct with your earlier comment and this also – but unfortunately how many would understand the truth – when the election time comes the crooks from both parties will nicely fool the voters – I think it is high time now for the educated of this country to get together under a non political banner and start educating the uneducated about the real truth without any political bias – and try to rally round them behind a honest, progressive and aggressive leader – we have already lost lot of time – now the process should start soon – we must never involve NGO goons in this process – but I think enough local talent is their – as a first step we must start a vigorous campaign in ruthlessly attacking idiots posting politically bias comments

Agree, 100%. We can’t change politicians. We must change the system and elect those who are willing to follow the path. Agree again. There are many talented people who have no opportunity to come forward. Greedy politicians of both sides are blocking the path. A vigorous campaign is needed to educate people before 2020.

There is a funny thing about the youth. It is estimated that there are 4 million Facebook accounts in Sri Lanka, 30% of which are fake. It is reported that their most sought after website is Gossip Lanka! Just imagine the mentality of our youth.

This is what I gathered from the self claimed A 1 Investigative Journalist Mohaumed , who wrote a long article in the Web journal , which carries that Lootto Ravi’s ” Buy One, Win Two ” Advertisement………….The Article is worth more than USD 1500 a pop……..Because Mohaumed in fact says Lootto Ravi had nothing to do with . the “CB Bond Heist.”……… It is Dr Ranil who is the the main culprit…… Aloysious and the FIL caaried it out under Dr Ranil’s instructions ……Because FIL said so in public , and Dr Ranil not only defended Mahendran in Yahapalana Parliament, but also paid good hard Yahapaana cash to three of his own mates ( PC ? ) , to give a clean bill of health to FIL, which even Judge Ilaichiyan wouldn’t be brave enough to touch……

RK and Sri Lankan Public never learn their lessons. Now he has found another way to launder his ill gotten gains. How many apartments like this has he got to float as Lottery wins, and bank their value in hard currency in his own bank account. That way he would have the paperwork to prove that money has a traceable origin and authenticated by the government. What a mover!

Whichever way one may look at it, Ravi K has HEAPED embarrassment and disgrace upon a government which came into power, promising to un-do all that was bad, dishonourable and filthily unacceptable in the government before.

Blaming Ravi K alone isn’t enough. Blame should start with the leadership of this government as well.

Ranil has lost a lot of ground owing to this, and has proven he hasn’t the guts to pre-empt a resignation or dismissal of Ravi K. It might happen through Ranil eventually, but only after the unprecedented public agitation.

All in all, this will damage the UNP, the government, and Ranil himself, irrevocably.

Penthouse Ravi is easily the Most suitable name for the ex- Finance Minister. Great selection.

  • 8
    8

Even at this 11th hour, Ranil should take the initiative and ask for the resignation of Ravi K. That would save his party and his government a lot of unwanted blushes.

Ravi K’s resignation should not come through a no confidence motion as that will cause irreparable damage to the government, where full credit will go to the Joint Opposition. And they will surely capitalize on it at every platform speech at every election.

In the event of Ravi K’s resignation, the fall-back option is plainly visible and infinitely better.. Mangala reverts back to the Foreign Ministry (a job at which he was considered VERY good by people in the know!), thus making way for Eran to become the Minister of Finance.

If Ranil and the President leave it for parliament to decide, they will need to bear the brunt of their folly and lethargy for a long time, with the JO taking full credit for the removal of Ravi, and deservedly so..

In the name of decency and for their own good, the Premier and the President should act NOW.

The website carrying media blitz questioning if not inferring negative credibility and undermining the lady witness who revealed in broad day the outright unlawful dealings of RK through his spouse et al is not surprising. WOnder if his company CFO is still on the job? RK is very capable of stooping to the lowest scum levels and it is also known that he wants to be minister of lotteries as that “ministry” has a heavy advertising budget and RK has family in advertising!!!! It is all quid-pro-quo. General public is down the precipice!!!!!

Ravi K’s recent actions sbow that he considers himself as even above the President and also above the law.

This man refused to be appointed as a minister except the Finance Minister and then speaks about corruption of previous government instead of clarifying serious allegations against him to people who elected him.

He also refuses to attend the Presidential Comm of inquiry immediately providing various excuses. One newspaper reported that he gave these excuses after meeting his boss Ranil W.

One wonders whether he is even bigger than Gods and protected by a corrupt UNP clan governing the country.

    6

This merely confirms my view that these politicians imagine that we citizens are a lot of idiot gamblers!

It is unfortunately true that far too many people who can hardly make ends meet with their incomes regularly spend a good deal of the limited money that they have on lottery tickets.

I wish President Maithri, who is a little less given to misleading than other politicians, looks in to this aspect of our national mental sickness. This is rather like drugs. Those who consume are unaware how they are being taken for a ride, but those who organise these rackets are quite aware that the victims will suffer and lose, while those who promote these activities know quite well that at the end of the day, it is they who will definitely gain.

A little study of Mathematics and Logic will, if undertaken by all, result in the people getting together, and lynching those rogues. But again, even as I say that, I know that it is impossible that we will succeed. But those of us who read stories of this sort in websites visited by people with a certain seriousness of purpose, will realise the continuing dishonesty of Ravi Karunanayake. Yes, one fellow will end up owning a luxury house (but at the moment of purchasing his ticket his chances will be one in a million or so), while a million others will each lose a certain amount of money – and that’s for sure.

For sure, it looks as though this man has got himself a luxury house. Right up to that courageous lady (Anika Wijesuriya?) giving evidence it looked certain that Ravi K. would get away with his booty. Now we must make sure that he doesn’t, and that Anika’s life is not in danger (her identity ought never to have been revealed).

    • 1
      7

The generosity & involvement of Ms Kanthan is providing more drama to the saga of RK.

Banks in UK, under International pressure to prevent money laundering, are suspicious of any cash deposits over £5k & wants to know how the funds originated before it can be deposited. So I wonder if Ms Kanthan of London, who I am sure, is aware of this fact, is trying to clean her black money in SL So, apart from her implied generosity for helping out RK financially ( I don’t believe there is such a thing as a ‘free lunch’ in business circles), are the IRS & the banks in SL (or even the exchange control, if the money was brought in from UK) in a deep slumber when it comes to cash transactions of the rich & powerful?.

Very interesting ! But! but he must have converted the GBP Black money OR Laundering Black money stolen or kept for safe keeping from the big time crooks of SL of the past and present government.
The cash was not accounted for in any accounts of the company nor there been any Paper Trail .
        Getting juicier minute by minute.
No matter who they’re ! The crooks swindling the Srilankan state money are Crooks they should be punished.
If they’re money laundering from another Country they need to be reported and investigated through the Foreign services.

Apologies for my mistake. I thought it was an all female deal, just like in the old saying that behind every successful man, there is powerful woman.

I hope FCID will be successful in exposing all these criminals & punishing them instead white washing or shoving it under the carpet. I don’t think Kanthan physically brought £s from UK, instead the money would be banked in an ‘offshore’ account for RK & the payment in Rupees recycled back to RK through his wife in a property investment. There is unlikely to be a paper trail for the FCID to investigate or the trail is too complicated to make a judgement. After all, these are educated crooks, smart enough to exploit loop holes in the law to the full.

To all Yahapalanya bootlickers! Read this excellent testimony of an 83 year old woman that appeared on CT (under RaviK’s… Money in a Bag) before you guys make stupid comments further.
    Savithri Melder / July 28, 2017 23:36
    21
    1
I am an 83 year old who was tortured by Ravi K and the minions of the Finance Ministry for LEGALLY bringing my almost ten year old but with very low mileage
automobile when we returned to SL(my husband’s patriotic response to Ravi K’s appeal to expatriates to return to SL now that the political climate was conducive) simply because I was attached to that inanimate object which transported me to many a hospital and back .When a special appeal was made to Ravi K in an attempt to reduce the duty of Rs 3.6 million he waved his finger at me and said” Well that’s the law of the country “- no more no less and the god walked off. Prophetic words- and I hope the same law of the country will put him in a penthouse at Bogambara .
Despite my repeated appeals my car is still at the wharf rotting and rusting almost TWO YEARS on. My appeal to donate it to a Children’s Home or House of Elders has gone unheeded. The rate of duty imposed was changed after we got the permit and after the car was shipped to …
Tears of an old woman – slowly but surely the hurt and humiliation we went through – avenged by the law of Retribution -and my car still rotting in the Wharf -hear me now RaviK? Some sick child or an old woman could have been transported in my car -perhaps a life could have been saved. On second thoughts maybe I should have asked Mr Aloysius to pay the duty-but then I am not the Finance Minister!

Madame Savithri M! A man who was affected by RaviK’s lunatic and myopic tax system (which was revised repeatedly due to gross inaccuracies and contradictions) called a talk-show of a popular TV channel and cried. Dr. Harsha de Silva (so-called educated bootlicker of the Y-Pala’s cabinet) said he would speak to appropriate authorities and do something. I know these guys just promise things on TV in order to avoid embarrassment, but the next minute they don’t remember it, but try to give him a call and see at least something could be done.
Thank you CT for publishing Mme S. Melder’s comment!

    1. The current cabinet of ministers seems to have been already bought by RaviK, Arjun Alosius and the Royal circle. We need a separate Presidential Commission to investigate into alleged ‘side kicks’ offered by Arjun A and RaviK to all ministers including the PM.
    2. Anika Wijesuriya and other Commission witnesses should immediately ask for police protection. I’m sure they will be intimidated by paid anonymous callers in the coming days. If certain Websites have already started the game we know the next step!
    3. President Maithreepala Sirisena should stop his Devadatta style hatred toward the Rajapaksas and get back to real business because of 2 main reasons: First, the Rajapaksas are gone and whenever you speak against MR his vote bank increases by several percentage points; and the second, the ultimate responsibility of all these mega thefts and corruption deals will rest on the President’s shoulders.
Mr. President! Many people are of the opinion that your lethargy, indifference, and hypocritical suspicious policy of ‘I didn’t know it’ seem to be the main cause of all these problems and ongoing issues.
    4. SLFP MPs and cabinet ministers who are part of this government should resign and request a fresh Parliamentary election immediately. They can show the world ‘SL is a functional democracy and the people will remember them as heroes of democracy!
    5. The entire country should speak in one voice and gather to get rid of RaviK and his circle of rogues. If RaviK doesn’t resign and if the UNP ministers hide him, a fresh parliamentary election will be the only solution.
    6. Under a new government Maithreepala Sirisena will still be the president but won’t be able to play the fool and hide Bond Scam rogues behind his national dress. He himself will be compelled to work instead of just talking. If not his days will also be numbered.
Sri Lankans who live in Sri Lanka should remember: It’s never been too late!
