Pictures: Anti-Hate Vigil Campaigner’s Personal Safety At Risk; ‘My Daughter’s Safety Also At Risk’ – BBS CEO

By Colombo Telegraph

“I would like to inform you that BBS has not taken any steps to make any threats . None of our office staff have involved in this. I also witnessed about using some photos by some third parties. Some use our logo and making various comments. We have  requested all of them to stop using our logo. You can see that on Facebook. ” Dilanthe Withanage the Chief Executive Officer, Bodu Bala Sena told Colombo Telegraph.

Dilanthe Withanage

Withanage made above remarks when asked the personal safety of anti-hate vigil campaigners. The people who showed up for an anti-hate vigil last week are now being threatened. Their personal information including private photographs were stolen and circulating via Facebook with threatening remarks.

Dilanthe Withanage said; “Five months ago also we have observed that Facebook was used by some youth in this country    without any control or ethical manner . That’s why we had to put a poster on our official site. We do not maintain any FB or Twitter accounts officially. I have observed a number of such pages exist and we have requested them to stop. As a person who was responsible introducing ICT into the School Curriculum I am very concern of ethical use of ICT and Social Media. I had a lot’s of fight against some these youth groups.”

“Soon after the incident I complained to Bambalapitiya Police and requested to investigate about how the national anthem was distorted and who is responsible to take legal actions. At the police station I received a number of calls threatening to my life and BBS. Today some one informed me in one of web News Sites comments were given referring to my daughter who is studying at an International School. I have written in 2010 in Irida Lankadeepa Newspaper a Column where I criticized ” Unethical & Unproductive use of ICT by Youth calling them “e-Rasthiaydu Karayo ”  and in one column with a self criticism of sending my kids to International Schools. My daughter is nothing to do with my work and vigil . I and family also have some fear now with such comments. Some of the leading members of Ulama Organization in SL knows clearly how I  am working with them not to have any communal issues in Sri Lanka. Most of the allegations against BBS are false and people are talking without proper knowledge and information. We invite all who are calling us terrorists  to have a professional dialogue with us We are very open and we are not hiding.Every week meet media and they know how democratic we are. Of course some media cover us with hidden agenda.” he further said.

We publish below a few screenshots of the stolen pictures. Please note – we have edited the pictures.

hey dont do any harm to daughters of dilantha , champike ranawake or shennali baduge.

if they love budhism , why they not send their gaughters to become nus, monks or novice nus or novive monks, may be they not belive in real budhism.

why dilanthe not listen to ganasare thero to make some more kids to increase the population of budhism?

why dont champike officially get married again and make some kids to send them to temple or vishaka vidyyalaya.

we love the old budhism , which followed in sri lanka before the new invetion and revival by BBS AND JHU.

DILANTHE, CHAMPIKE AND SHENNALI , DONT TRY TO BE SMART AND THERE ARE MANY ALREADY COMMITED TO BECOME SMARTER THEN YOU ALL IN THE SIMMILAR FASHION.

DILANTHE , CHAMPIKE , THERE ARE WAYS TO EARN MONEY , BAGGING , BUSINESS AND SO ON BUT YOU BOTE CHOOSED THE NEW ONE SELLING BUDHISM.

its interesting – instead of complaining about sharia law, why not change the the general law to get married to 4 women and follow the bbs and increase the population of this country. Even Muslim clergy can get married to 4 women- It is the ideal solution to the imaginary problem faced by Sinhala Buddhists that their population is dwindling. We need to think out of the box.
According to Sharia you men can divorce easily. So you can 4 wives at the same time, you can also divorce them and gt married to 4 other. Imagine what an easy solution
Dilantha also can cover his daughter with Burqa, so that she cannot be identified.

I went to a Christian School. My children went to Buddhist Schools. But who respects and understands the Dhamma better?
Buddhist schools teach young people the unquestioned, History and Rituals of Buddhism, which seem to have turned them away from the Path. While those of us who were turned away by the rituals of Christianity, and came into Buddhism later, by reading questioning and listening to erudite Monks, seem to better understand and practise the True Teachings.

According to a news report of Meeting, 16th Apr. 2013:

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has assured diplomats from Muslim countries that the Government will not tolerate anyone perpetrating acts to create communal or religious disharmony in Sri Lanka, the President’s office said.

He had given the assurance when he met a delegation comprising 15 diplomatic heads of Islamic countries based in Sri Lanka.

The President’s office said that the meeting took place to discuss various matters of mutual interest in the domestic and international arenas.

The President has said that if anyone has proof and evidence of attempts to create religious disharmony they should hand over that information and action would be taken promptly.

Diplomatic heads from Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar took part in the meeting.

This is all BS when we have seen what is actually taking place on the ground situation.

President got men like Cader,Azwar,Athaullah and even ACJU
to tell the world that “Muslims in this country are living
happily.” Even after the Dambulla incident,President
behaved as if nothing had happened and nobody complained to
him.He needs proof. He, as the defense chief, should explain
why we saw Army guarding Nolimit Maharagama at new year sale.
Remember, they will do anything to hang on for another term
and it’s clear from the behavior of our own self appointed
Muslim leaders. And also nobody cares about Arab actions on
the issues of world Muslims as long as we have boot lickers
as or reps selling off the community.

Now it is possible to complain against these facebook sites

In response to sexually derogatory, defamatory and racially spiteful speech circulated on social media, the Attorney General’s Department urged affected parties to lodge a complaint at the nearest police station.

Attorney General Palitha Fernando said laws were in place to apprehend such offenders but the main problem that investigating police officers faced was the identification of the source.

“It’s hard to identify the sources in most instances; this has been a stumbling block in tracking these kinds of offences” he said.

When it was pointed out that social media such as Facebook identified those casting such remarks as they wrote from their personal profiles, Mr. Fernando said the victims must report the incidents forthwith to the police.

“If they have proof of the source then it would be much easier for the police to investigate. Criminal defamation is not an offence anymore in this country. However, this can fall under other offences. The parties affected should immediately report these incidents to the police. The Department will receive the files as soon as investigations are concluded and we will take action from thereon” he said.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) spokesman Roshan Chandragupta said today that the organisation was in contact with Facebook.

“We are currently in contact with Facebook regarding such offenders. We urge all affected parties to report such abusive speech or comments on photographs directly to Facebook as well” he said.

He also said one of the main issues on Facebook’s late reaction was the lack of understanding of the language.

“Some comments are either in Sinhala or transliterated, so we have to educate them as to the content of the comments prior to them taking action” he said.

Neither the Govt nor the embassy can do anything about the long standing restaurant in London called the “Drunken Buddha” because its the favourite haunt of the BBS and has a Buddha Head potty.
