This tragedy was God given. But Government/s should take the 100% responsibility of this. 2014 tsunami funds were swallowed the crocodile who are suppressing that and other related investigations. They are not preparing the country for even small disaster. They wasted country’s wealth on armed. They demolished the Tamils properties life with those arms. Used the name to loot whatever left in the South.
So far no investigation done in the atrocities created by Old Royals.
The Tamil people were kept in dire situation for years until they were cleanly swept out by bulldozing from this earth in Mullivaikkal. Foreign Governments and NGOs were banned out of that area. The current government is not ready to talk about that. But it is expecting the God too to sit and watch its cruel destructive activities. So many International media has been given explanation that Sinhalese will not accept their Leaders, Commanders and soldiers being investigated. But it was not the Sinhala People refused to sign for Rome treat. Those Modayas knows nothing. It was Nephew of the Man who went for the Kandy walk to stop Solomon-Chelva pact, went to UN, New York to have the report of the UNSG’s expert Panel to be thrown away. In 1948 the father of the Wildlife Sanctuary- the SinhaLE, Don Stephen, removed the enfranchisement of Tamil and made them less than slaves. As very correctly stated by you politicians have embarked on a mission to collect votes shedding crocodile tears Successive governments since 1977 are responsible for this tragedy. In 1977 then government started the project to build a house for each family. For this they blocked out valuable agricultural lands which used to retain water in the suburbs of colombo. They did not realise that srilanka has not got enough lands to give10 perches to each family. Answer to the problem was to build flats or apartments as was done by wise educated politicians like Keunamen.With the blessing of the Successive governments Bogollagamas Munasinghe Liyanages blocked out lands indiscriminately.Some of the officers of the U. D.A ,M.C S U.C Swere in their payroll.Politicians allowed unauthorised constructions to get more votes. Having ruined the colombo now they are shedding crocodile tears

So that the draining process become operational immediately. Then the Megapolis should be implemented with the awareness of the flooding situation.

Politicos are responsible for exempting their supporters from cultivating the land on hilltops above a specified height which was strictly observed prior to the independence, when we had efficient Civil servants administering the country as Government Agents, AGA’s & DRO’s running the country. Our politicians who inherited the most efficient administration in Asia, destroyed the efficient administration by making our administrators servants of politicians and ordering them to break every administrative regulation and allowing their henchman to cut the trees in the hill tops and our forests. The result is landslides.
The mud which flowed in to the rivers because of the deforestation has finally settled down in our tanks, reducing their holding capacity and increasing the content of heavy metals in the water. The high levels of heavy metals in the water has resulted in the Chronic Kidney Disease, killing thousands of people and threatening the lives of future generations.
We had an efficient administration during the period of President Premadasa, when he allowed his super Secretary to the Treasury R Paskaralingam, who was entrusted the 200 garment factory programme and the Gam Udawa rural housing programme.
We also had an excellent administration of the Urban Development Authority that handled the urban improvement programmes under another Super Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse. He handed over the implementation of the flood control programme to the Navy. The Navy boats cleaned the canals and maintained the flood control system to eliminate floods in the Colombo District.
The President & Prime Minister must take immediate action to once more hand over the flood control system to the efficient administration established by the former Defence Secretary. If not the days of UNP under the Prime Minister and the SLFP under the President are numbered.

President Premadasa had a Super Secretary who was even better than GR, because he encouraged all the other secretaries to do their job without fear. As the Chairman of the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries, I represented the issues of the industrialists for many years, together with my friend Patrick Amerasinghe who was the President of Federation of Chambers.
Paski’s monthly meetings with the business community representatives were a remarkable example of listening to the grievances of the business community and providing speedy solutions immediately or at the next meeting. Paski is probably wasting his time as an advisor to the Ministry of Finance.
If the Prime Minister allows Paski to once again conduct similar meetings with one or two capable Deputy Minister in attendance, the economy will pick up within one year.
Hence, please treat my praise of GR as a constructive criticism meant to warn the present rulers that if they do not take corrective action, they will lose all the elections in the future.

SADLY…Sirs its 3 days late…the rain water didnt do much damage in colombo n suburbs…but due to releasing water without informing people that led to suffering..before the govt decided to help…THE ORDINARY FOLKS..did a yeoman service of providing food n necesseties and even providing water transport to take those people who were marooned to safety….irrespective of religion race or caste….but based on humanity….sad to note the govt was SITTING..while people were suffering and now using phoyo ops to score brownie points….
I DOFF MY PITH HAT to all the civilian volunteers who selflessly helped b4 our politicians opened their eyes after 3 days..
Now comes the bigger issue….re settling the people in their homes filled with mud n water…..helping them to re start with their livelihood…providing kids with their books n uniforms….

There is an old Tamil proverb that says “vellam varamun anai katta vendum”
(Dam should be built before the floods appear) No doubt concerned officials in the line agencies have done their work. I know this because I was part of the administrative system. But it is the political bosses that have failed. The latter are more interested in stealing from DDC votes and funds from their ministries. Thanks to our politicians, within the last two decades they have brought Sri Lanka to the pitiful economic miseries of failed countries like Bangladesh.

Rescue is what our brave boys and girls do in the forces and a few good Samaritans do with a genuine compassion.
