Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has ordered to cancel IGP Pujith Jayasundara‘s study tour to Scotland, Colombo Telegraph learns.
The IGP and five others, including Law and Order Deputy Minister Nalin Bandara were scheduled to leave for the United Kingdom to attend a training programme at Scotland Police College on community policing.
The Prime Minister has ordered Law and Order Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara to cancel the tour as the IGP is currently undergoing a ministerial inquiry.
Wickremesinghe had directed the Law and Order Minister that the Police Chief should not leave the country for any matter until the end of the investigation.
IGP Jayasundara ran into a political storm last week over the alleged conspiracy to kill President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Although the evidence presented in connection with the case is inconsistent and contradictory, the Joint Opposition MPs are currently exploring the possibility of initiating a no-confidence motion against the Police Chief.
The basis of the proposed no-confidence motion is the IGP’s alleged affiliation with former TID DIG Nalaka Silva who is at the centre of the alleged ‘conspiracy ‘ controversy.

Double standards! Then why did Ranil helped Arjun Mahendran to leave the country knowing very well that he was to be prosecuted for Bond scam related offences.
/
M.Basnayake / October 1, 2018
Mahendran was no longer a state employee when he left. Additionally, mahendran was a Singaporean citizen so he would not need a visa to get in to Singapore.

No that has nothing do with that. A has nothing ot do with B.
Here polispathi is sheduled for a training. And there has been several issues buring right at the moment with extremists in thie country. So priority should be given to security in the country or not ?
Bond scam is a blunder and it is being investigated. Why you guys not questioning MIG deal issue or others that created eve more losses. Balige putha looted it to the core why you stay mum being supportive to them. Udayanga wieerathunga is jailed in Dubai… what about him ? These would take longer than we ever guessed at before. Lanken festated law issues have lot do with the the autohrities that have been engaging with them in the country. Judges and many of them are even worst. That came to surface but President covers it why ?
Rajakashes should be burnt down on an open cemetry fo rall the high harms to have done deliberartely to this country.

Let’s say RW learnt a lesson.? Or does he think stealing is okay and not killing? Or, does he say trying to kill MY3 and Goat not acceptable? Whatever it is, be happy that he did something right the end.

IGP Pujith Jayasundara should now ban Singing national anthem in Tamil through out the island with the help of the extraordinary patriot and film director Sarath Weerasekera.

It is unthinkable some high ranking police officers do this ..
They must be punished .
They are employed to protect people …their motive to kill for some politics is not acceptable at all…
This is Sri Lanka..
We cannot trust any one..
World is crazy now ..

DIG Latiff ,the boss of STF said, IGP Pujitha wanted his TID boss and his Boys to have Commando Training.
IGP made the request after taking the TID Boss for a Bodhi Puja in Kelaniya Rajamaha Vihara…
But Latiff didn’t act on it, because TID is just supposed to be Paper Cops . who listen to other people’s conversations….
Who would want to kill Sira?
Wonder what Dr Ranil will do to DIG Latiff?……

this is a bogus conspiracy theory
will any sane person tell an indian mental patient of an assasination plot
it also involves a dissatisfied police informer and his handler
the poor igp has missed an opportunity of a training course in scotland
he has been made a scapegoat and ranil has fallen into a JO trap

CHANAKYAN / October 2, 2018
Who is not inclined to hold with nalman that “this is a bogus conspiracy theory? Colonel Udugama was similarly implicated in 1965. The country never believed the story. He was exonerated and later given a diplomatic assignment.
The coup conspirators of 1962, who were in the Police and Armed Forces were immediately apprehended and locked up. The government is treating governance now with levity.

Why RW is saluting ? He’s not a uniformed armed services / Security services member ? Certainly he need not saluting a police officer??
What sort of morons have we in leadership??
Mind boggles!!!

I have not the privilege of knowing the nature of the evidence to describe it as inconsistent and contradictory. But the issue cannot be simply dismissed. Unlike in the case of the CDS being permitted to leave the country, it appears that the PM has taken a straight forward decision in this matter, which is an exception for a politician. Usually a politician decides on the pros and cons based on what is advantageous to him. It is inconsistent for the police itself to investigate this matter when its cream is alleged to be involved. OK! the head of the TID is on compulsory leave. If the IGP has nothing to hide, then as a straightforward head, he should request leave of absence until the matter is over. In any case, the impartiality of the Police is in question and this investigation should be headed by an independent entity with police powers.

It’s a good step but people won’t be happy about it.
Even the IGP’s unusual & unacceptable behavior is sufficient to seek his sacking/demanding resignation.
It’s high time to remind the PM to involve constructively in former CB chief’s arrest or required legal action.

Kolla is wrong. Most of the foreign travels were offered by a foreign country and were related finance and Economy. In most of those travels he met one Very rich person living in Gelbium because he can not do that kind of work in his naturalized very democratic police state. The important point. the govt got a very big instrument to the colombo harbour to check illegal stufff but was said to be for checking for weapoms transfer. ssome how Ranil had said, there is such an equipment but I do not know only the president knows. PResident had said yes I know but why it is not being used, I don’t know. when Mangala Samraweera was asked he had said yes it was assembled for checking weapons, now they say it can check weapons that is why it is shut. Anyway, At least THREE OUT OF FIVE INSTALLMENTS OF LOAN GIVEN BY THE IMF HAD GONE TO THAT. ON THE OTHER HAND, WHEN CUSTOMS WERE ASKED THEY HAD SAID THAT RANIL HAD ASKED US TO NOT TO USE IT AS WE STILL DO NOT WHY IT IS THERE.. tHERE WAS A PLAN TO USE COLOMBO AS A WEAPONS TRANSPORT HUB TO AISIA. THE MAJOR DRAW BACK IS IT CAN NOT CATCH NARCOTIC COMING INSIDE.

Some amazing stories here. Sri lankan army is the best right now in STREET FIGHTING kind of stuff. IGP wanted his people sent to OIReland for commando training. Why IReland, what about India. JApan had some REd brigade, Japan would have given it, India is the best.

Ireland has been chosen for the GODAYAS from the village in the armed services to learn some Singlish instead of Chinling , Hindlish, or Japaneeesie.
That’s why!!

Soam / October 2, 2018
What is wrong with the Sri Lankans? don’t you like to improve and be like India or even like Bangladesh. You are unable to get out of the cesspit and the politics are putrid. The mass need to wake up from the slumber and get a good leader. Otherwise, Sri Lanka will be in the wilderness for a long time to come. Even Somalia and Zimbabwe will over take you within the next decade.

Should the IGP and five others, including Law and Order Deputy Minister Nalin Bandara go all the way to Scotland to attend a training programme on community policing. If the IGP does not know this 101 stuff, he must step aside. If the Deputy Minister does not know what community policing is, he must resign.
The man on the street knows that such trips are just taxpayer funded perks.
By the way there was this IGP in a spotless WHITE uniform and gloves to match. What a waste!
.
We do not know as to why RW cancelled the trip. But is this yet another example one sees some semblance of checks and balances at work? The coalition must try and develop this type of governance.

Most probably Scotland Yard would have come to there senses and said that they do not want to have a Baila Singer in their premises.
/
A.D.J. Perera / October 4, 2018
The current, ill-educated IGP has brought the once respected lofty position to disrepute. Singing Baila, Kandyan dancing, assaulting lift-operators,
forcing meditation on the Police – the man is an incurable nut. What keeps
him unduly in office are the influences of such men as the Gangaramaya priest,
Elle Gunawansa and that variety who brought him in ahead of the more deserving in the force. This man will be spat upon when he is forced out of the service.
Men like Ana Seneviratne, Cyril Heart and others were tall in more respects than one and held their heads high long after their tenure. The Public respected them in and out of office.
