Police has deployed several units to arrest General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) Galagoda Atte Gnanasara.
According to the police there are several charges levelled against the monk, including inciting religious disharmony.
Meanwhile, a court order has also been issued against Gnanasara leaving the country.
The development also comes amidst reports that Gnanasara has gone into hiding and is currently housed in a safe house belonging to a senior minister in the coalition government.
Yesterday, BBS’s Dilanthe Withanage said that there was a conspiracy to assassinate Gnanasara, and all the recent attacks that had taken place against Muslim owned establishments and mosques in the country were part of this larger conspiracy initiated by extremists elements which were supported internationally, as well as by sections of the government and the opposition.

And mind you, according to the Mahavamsa, the only descendants of Prince Vijaya are the Veddas, and not the Sinhalese. Veddas quote this story/myth and say that they are kinsfolk of the Sinhalese. So I really do not have to add anything to the Mahavamsa, it is already in it, and the people you have named for me to send copies of the Mahavamsa, most probably already know this. For your reference you should print this and keep – the Vijaya legend is something which was promoted during the British colonial period. Prior to that it was most probably only a few learned and the royals who claimed descent from prince Vijaya who were aware of this legend/myth. An increasing portion of the Sinhalese population reject this myth and also there is no historicity to it, as the Sinhalese were here long before 543 B.C, when Vijaya is supposed to have landed here.

Again the Tamil drags the Mahavamsa. Why are the Tamils so obsessed with the Mahavamsa? Mahavamsa bashing is your “Mein kamp”. With or without the Mahavamsa, the Tamils are not native to the island. Tamils are native to Tamil Nadu only. Tamil historical literature proves this fact without any doubt. So the Mahavamsa is not telling anything different from the Tamil historical literature and Tamil history. Stop mocking the Veddas and insulting both the Veddas and the Sinhalese. Gnasara thero is a product of decades of Tamil harassment and attacks on the Sinhalese and their Buddhist culture. I don’t condone his actions or behaviour, but he sure as hell have some good reasons to be radicalized in this manner.
