Police Firm Despite Pressure From PM To Go Easy On UNP MPs Implicated In Bond Scam

The Police will not back down from investigating UNP Members of Parliament alleged to have received monies from Perpetual Treasuries Ltd (PTL) and its subsidiaries despite Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe taking issue with senior officers for naming certain parliamentarians in ‘B’ Reports submitted to court, according to Police sources.

Ranil

Sources close to the Prime Minister acknowledged to Colombo Telegraph that he had summoned Senior DIG (CID) Ravi Samaraweera and Director CID Shani Abeysekera prior to leaving for the UK and accused them of unfairly targetting UNP MPs by naming them in ‘B’ reports submitted to court with respect to the Central Bank bond scam.

The officers had assured the premier that they were not engaged in any such conspiracy and that they were merely following procedures as and when names come up, sources added.

Although Wickremesinghe’s castigation of the officers carried a subtle request to desist on this matter, the Police will not do so, Colombo Telegraph learns.

The issue was headlined when it was revealed that UNP minister Sujeewa Senasinghe had received money from PLT during the 2015 parliamentary election campaign and even afterwards.

Senasinghe denied that he had any knowledge of such donations and said that he would give the relevant amount to charities named either by the Speaker or the Chief Prelates.

However, Senasinghe earlier said that he would resign his parliamentary seat if it was found that he had received any money from PLT. He added at the time that he was from a wealthy family that rode horses and owned elephants and therefore did not need any financial help to run an election campaign.

Senasinghe was also named among many who had dozens of phone conversations with PLT head Arjun Aloysius, the man at the centre of the controversy on account of being the son-in-law of Arjuna Mahendran, the Governor of the Central Bank when the dubious transactions took place. At the time Senasinghe said he talked with Aloysius to obtain information for a book he was writing, but phone record show that many calls had been made long after the said book was published.

While there have been claims that a large number of politicians had received donations from PTL, ranging from 118-162, as of now there is no evidence to substantiate these numbers.

RW should have been Impeached for corruption and Grand Larceny at the Central Bank a long time ago.
This is why RW wants to block the investigation, but the ugly truth of financial crime by the PM and his Royal college cronies, which was master minded by Washington DC MCC’s COMPACT’s fake xperts and supported by IMF is now in the public domain.
Ranil must GO NOW and UNP be cleaned up.

RW is a financial criminal who is looting people of Lanka and pushing us into a bigger debt trap than criminal MR, who he protects and emulates.
According to Minister Samaraweera, the unity government has obtained Massive foreign debts of US$ 12 billion during the last three years and spent for various projects.

What are these Fake Development projects? How much of theses so-called development project Debt/ loans were to buy super luxury SUVs and cars from Fake aid donors – Japan, US, EU, for corrupt politicians of lanka?
MCC is selling train engines to Ranil for big bucks from General electric with Canadian loans!
In Malaysia Mahathir has called for a review of foreign-funded infrastructure projects. in keeping with a campaign promise.

Civil society in Lanka must ask for AID Transparency and public listing on all so called dev. projects and funds borrowed and spent. But TI is doing gimmicks..

      Sumane,

      Don’t be child.

You never asked Sagala and Jeyam to resign for purposefully staging a “Yes Sir, Yes Sir, No Sir No Sir” drama on the stage. They staged that drama because they know the Modayas are not Modayas, but they are the ultimate Modayas so that it will work on them.

Now tell me, how can Ranil resign for news his acolytes propagated for public disillusionment?

After carefully evaluating of how safe it is and how effective it will be, Ranil’s team released this information. You know the drama. For Media, mid-level DIGs are going to appear to the media and brave out that they are not going to stop the investigation. But in that Media meeting, if you ask them how much they paid to get that job, they will walk down from the stage.

You need to accept the Universal truth Buddha told that Batalanda Dr. Ranil is Mr. Clean.

Ball carrier does not have to worry. Yahapalanaya is a 1000 times better than the corrupt govt of Rajapaksa where justice system or free media was absent.

“Gnanasara thera was issued six month rigorous prison sentences for each charge to be served concurrently.

The thera was also ordered to pay a fine of 3,000 rupees, 1,500 rupees for each of the two charges.

Failure to pay the fine will result in the thera being issued an extended month as rigorous imprisonment.

The Chief Magistrate also ordered Galagodaththe Gnanasara thera to pay a compensation fee of 50,000 rupees to Sandhya Eknaligoda.

Failure to pay the compensation fee to Sandhya will result in the thera serving an additional three months in prison.”

You can only pity peoples ignorance.

Almost all Rajapaksa ball carriers use the catch phrase “Bond Scam”. Where is the scam. The Rajapaksa govt with the help of Cabral ruined CB, did business without policy or principle and Mahendran followed the same. PTL seeing an opportunity took the CB and Govt to school.

Now everyone is going fishing. The politicized corrupt legal system keeps two in remand in bail while preventing the police dealing with the Mig fraud or even arresting the culprit.

If this story is true then it is of poor form. The PM going so low is itself evidence that he is in it. Further it can be interpreted that that the MP’s concerned will have no hope if it goes to courts and that is why attempts are been made to intimidate the Police. Under such circumstances, where is the promised rule of law, a basic principle under “Good Governance”. I am saddened to note that this type of alleged action makes him ineligible for party leadership as it damages the stature of the party.

    • 14
      1

      Good Governance,
Just FYI – He has been ineligible for partly leadership for 20 years. That has not changed anything.
Sujeewa needs to be prosecuted for fraud and lying. He took this money to protect PTL while in the COPE. Not sure if anyone remembers but a UNP COPE member(cannot recall the name) abruptly resigned and Sujeewa was appointed by Dr. Ranil to clean up the mess. Then Sujeewa went on a rampage trying to protect PTL from inside the COPE at the behest of Dr. Ranil. For that he got this payoff after the election.

      • 2
        0

Thank you Rajiv. I am aware that RW smuggled SS into the COPE to do some white washing – to put it very mildly. But this talking to Police, amounting to intimidation is the limit. It demeans the position of the Prime Minister, demeans the position of the party leadership and finally the party itself. As I told before, this breaks the very foundation of Good Governance, the principle on which the entire Government was elected.

So coward judges in Sri Lanka..
They do not enjoy their power..
    Separate justice from politics.
Do not need to bow down to politicians….
Create a culture of independent judiciary in Sri Lanka.
    To earn your respect.
Why should judge obey those politicians who have no GCSE..
    Bring PM under jurisdiction ..
    No matter who he is?
Likewise ; apply law to all equally.
It is in your hand .
If you slip the justice slip.

This is sensational! So, the upper levels of the Police have some honest officers who want to act honestly, even if the IGP becomes the stooge of the now warring duo of Maithri and Ranil, whom we voted in to power.
    .
We, the Public, who collectively own this country, want to know what the crooks whom we elected as our reperesentatives, have been doing. In all matters. But of immediate concern, what they have done with our money.
    .
Our prayer must be that the nerve of these Police Officers holds, and that we will be able to select a better lot in 2020.
    .
Ah, but there’s the rub. It is very necessary that we, mostly older people, all belonging to the favoured minority who use English, must do our duty by taking these messages to those who sweat and toil for us to live in relative comfort, and have no time to read and to think. Noblesse oblige, it used to be called; . I’m not sure that I qualify – I’m poor!

      Sinhala_Man,

“We, the Public, who collectively own this country, want to know what the crooks whom we elected as our reperesentatives, have been doing. In all matters. But of immediate concern, what they have done with our money.”

Say we, the Para-Public, collectively have been taken for a ride, by the Para-elected Para-representatives, and they have already spent our money, and we are missing meals.

This has been going on for sometime. So, this is what your representatives have done since 1948 when the Para-British left.

Do we need a revolution, just like the French Revolution to clean things up?

      • 3
        0

        A.
        Spot on.
This PM is not fit to be reelected as PM; basically he is a “sophisticated thug”, a con- artist; who has managed to brain wash the innocent but gullible UNP supporters and “others” including the law and order establishment to have his own way; unfortunately “most” have succumbed to his “tricks”.
Surely there has to be a legal mechanism to peacefully select a new PM by the UNP until the next election; a ” revolt” within the UNP is the answer.
Unfortunately the present President was a “worshiper” of the PM and he does not have the courage to elect a new PM; although this might be legally possible.
Something radical has to happen for sake of the country?

        Dear Rajiv

The good Law teaches us that until and unless a man is declared guilty in a court of Law, he shall be innocent.

That ruling is good enough for me.

        • 0
          0

          Justice and Fairplay,

Granted. Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

At this rate, no one will be found guilty of anything in Sri Lanka. the power of politics and connections coupled with Judicial corruption/incompetence/partiality has kept these crooks out of jail. That doesnt mean they are innocent.

I think we all know Ranil will never be held accountable for the bond scam. Heck, with all that is out there, I doubt if Sujeewa will ever be held accountable for what he has done.

That sure doesnt mean they are innocent.

          • 0
            0

            Dear Rajiv

You may be perfectly right but technically you/we haven’t a leg to stand on with that theory.

The only recourse is to find a man – any man – who will guarantee us that the Law will be applied equally from him downwards. Let’s find such a man. Ranil isn’t such a man nor is Rajapakse. Sirisena has scored so many own goals he knocks himself out.

They are silent because we have selective justice here; meaning the same rules don’t apply to all across the board. Yes I am afraid we seem heading dangerously close to a banana Republic.

The picture published of RW is an indicator that the news item is false and contrived. How is it that Sirasa, Hiru and Derana, out and out anti-Ranil channels, have not come out with this. Why should RW make “subtle request to desist” of two DIGs when he can make that request of the IGP himself? Moreover if he had in fact made the request wont he have the presence of mind to ask the officers to keep it a secret expecting them to oblige the PM at least in that regard?

  • 4

Believe all the books of PTL are now in the custody of the CID. Why is it difficult to find out exactly who got money from them. Appears there is pressure at a very high level to cover up as it would implicate both the sides of parliament. God save Sri Lanka.

Why didn’t CT notice those two Police “High Ups” were in “Meditation Session” while the PM was “accusing” them of “wrong doing”. Hope those Police and AG’s Dept. personnel would continue to engage in “Meditation” to receive “Buddhi” and bring to justice the REAL CULPRITS, who PLANNED this “Great Bank Robbery” and are still at “High Seat” of power.

All politicians contesting for a parliamentary seat for the first time identify themselves with the masses and talk of the hardships they have gone through in life. Once they are elected and they begin to rob and gain immense wealth they speak of how they were born into wealthy families and they don’t have to rob. “riding elephants my bloody foot”

Whether it is the Rajapkses, Wickremesighe’s or the Sirisenas they are all one and the bloody same. #srilankan people taken on a never ending

  • 11

Everybody in Sri Lanka knows that Ranil Wickramasighe led and Masterminded the day light robbery of Central Bank of Sri Lanka and now summoning police hierarchy to put pressure on deleting the names of his accomplices in the said day light robbery is not a surprise.

Besides, Ranil brought continuously for three months cabinet papers to get all money in Government in Peoples Bank, Bank of Ceylon etc totally transferred to private banks in order to kill the Government banks instantaneously.

Since J.R.Jayawardane elected as the President of Sri Lanka after changing the 1972 constitution, it was not the UNP led by DS, Dudley, John Kotelawala etc as JRJ brought all the Jada, padada, Mlecha characteristics to politics in Sri Lanka and Ranil being his nephew groomed to continue in the same policies.

The problem is still there are people of Sri Lanka voting for Ranil and the UNP in the midst of all these unpatriotic actions. Hope that The people of Sri Lanka will get the wisdom to send Ranil to political hell in the coming elections.

NTW: “J.R.Jayawardane elected as the President of Sri Lanka after changing the 1972 “

When introducing the constitution and later on JRJ said that, with his constitution, the UNP can never be defeated. He made a serious mistake.

His govt, ably assisted by Lalith A, the pervert, created the grounds for the Tamils to fight. His govt could not control the uprising. MR did.

NOW THE UNP IS struggling to hold on to power. MR can walk in at any given time.

When CBK brought the constitutional bill it was sabotaged by RW.

      Now RW is struggling.

      AIYYO PAW neddha?

Recently a gonnamba by the name of Champika said that only Mrs B and JRJ did any good for the country. What a fool he is.

Mrs B yes.DS, DUDLEY, Sir JOHN kept this country clean. DS,DUDLEY and Mrs B sought food security. Mrs B attempted to provide a source of income to the people by establishing industries all over the country.

JRJ and his follower destroyed all those industries.

A good place to start would be to find out what the laws / regulatory procedures are, with regard to politicians accepting donations. If donations are not regulated, this is just a witch hunt and a mud slinging excercise. We cannot stop corruption without laying down good practices with laws to back them up, and independance to law enforcement authorities to ensure compliance

    • 3
      1

      De Silva,

That is true. This is why Dayasiri accepting money is not illegal. As for Sujeewa, it is a whole different story. Sujeewa accepted money after the election was over and was a member of the COPE and was trying desperately to protect Mahendran and PTL. This 3 million rupees was a payoff for services rendered. Afterall, this was the guy who wrote a book exonerating Mahendran and PTL of the scam. I am pretty sure he received more than 3 million. The story has it that he has a brother in England. Perhaps, he is the bag man?
