President Sirisena Appeals For Calm, Vows To Crack Down On Miscreants And Mischief-Makers

President Maithripala Sirisena in a special statement issued a short while ago strongly condemning the recent acts of violence in Digana and other places in Kandy and expressing his grief to all families and relatives of those effected. He also stated that the Police has been instructed to apply the law to the letter in dealing with all individuals and groups involved in violence.

The President added that all possible steps have been taken to build harmony, unity, understanding and friendship among communities in this context. He appealed to leaders of all religious denominations to advise local politicians and help prevent communcal clashes.

He also revealed that he has instructed the Police, Army and the STF to work around the clock to maintain law and order in the particular areas.

The President appealed also to the general public to be wary of misinformation and mischief-making especially in social media because ‘there are groups that are working to destroy the peace and cause division between communities.’ He promised to take drastic action against such people.

President and PM has utterly failed the nation. Despite numerous early warnings they watched until everything go up in flames. You’ll are only good for issuing statements post violence about taking action on the perpetrators. How about being taking assertive action? Why was the electricity cut off only for the affected area ?

This was preplanned pogrom by the state machinery which includes police and STF.

Imagine the fear among the women and children inside the house without electricity while mob outside setting ablaze anything and everything they think it is Muslim owed ?

President Sirisena and Prie Minister Wickramasinghe,

So, this is Yjapalanaya, the 62 Lakhs voted for on January 8, 2015?

As a First Step, Appoint Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka as the :Law and Order Minister, to address issues, the way he dealt with VP and LTTE. Both of you have failed to maintain law and order, and catch crooks and criminals over the past 3 years, and they are at large, and financing and inciting communal-ism by Para-Sinhala Buddhist elements, ( This is not Buddism, but Para-Sinhala “Buddhism”) in the :and of Native Veddah Aethho, illegally occupied by the Paras.

When the President announces that the Ministry of Law and Order would be given to Mr Sarath Fonseka, the ministers of his faction oppose it and threaten to sit with the opposition. A situation has arisen where the powers the President has been endowed by the Constitution cannot be carried out.

The politics the President and the Prime Minister have adopted during the last three years is to pave the way for communalists and religious extremists. The Prime Minister’s main concern throughout last three years was to become the President and the President’s agenda was centered on how he could remain in the Presidential seat. Both of them were not concerned about fulfilling the 8th January mandate. As such, we of the JVP have been entrusted the responsibility of defeating communalist and religious extremist tendencies as well as abolishing the executive presidency.

The police and forces are mono-ethnic. They are not going to arrest Buddhist monks even if ordered to do so. The government knows this. This is the same situation as in 1983, when the forces stood by while the rioters looted. We need a really secular state in the country. Too much respect is given to thugs like Gnanasara.

      Nahfees,
It is too late to understand the reality Mr Nahfees. This is going for over six decades and you were an observer or enjoyed until Tamils faced the final episode in May 2009. It is not only this president and PM failed the nation but every President and PM were failed the nation. Do you know many times there were flames up and how many thousands of people burnt on these flames? Wait and see, How Muslims will be decorated as Terrorists in comings years and how long it is going to take to see the final episode as that happened in May 2009. Now, it is too long from 2009.

Dear Ajith, we were not enjoying with respect to the Tamil brotherens issues. As a family, we lost our livelyhood in Batticaloa in 1986. I did not experience this directly but heard from my parents. I witnessed our property I ruins when we visited during the early 2000’s ceasefire agreement. Though to leave Sri Lanka for my studies , I still want to return back and contribute to development of the society. Everytime I intend to do this , this happens.

        Sunil
President My3 can order the mono ethnic police and the security forces to maintain ‘low and odour.’.
        But does that really happen?
A mono ethnic Commission woud be appointed and it’s members get well paid and and get BMWcar permits while in office for the duration of office.
The Commission report would be invariably delayed shelved and not released after it’s release and people forget. That’s what happens in our ‘Thrice Blessed Isle of Paradise perpetually.

Today Sri Lanka look like a lawless land..if people And monks could take the law into hands; why we have government ?.why do we have police and why do we have any legal system?.
Scrap all courts and let the law of jungle prevail.
I should say 90% sinahslese abhor this .
A lot of Sinhalese people chased the thungs and mobs out ..
Do not need to generalise this .
It would be unfair to say that all Sinhalese are racists or extremists.
    But it is unfortunate some
    Mps support this ..
They do not have morality to do that.
Suppose this could happen in Singapore or India what would be result..
WE should think some.good educated peoople.among sihalses openly condemn this .
Thank you for your of comforts and mindfulness.
Sri Lanka never learn any lesson from its past .
Some people like to see blood bath .
May God save Lanka from evil of these mobs..

I reside in Singapore. Please do not even compare Singapore and Sri Lanka in our dreams about law enforcement.

Sri Lanka police is not even close to the National servicemen (NS) of Singapore.

I made the following request last week to the President and the PM, after Thambuththegama incident:
    .
QUOTE: “I earnestly urge the President and the Prime Minister – FOR GOD’S SAKE, forget about your differences. Issue a Joint Statement on national TV together, STRONGLY AFFIRMING that there is no instability in the country. The government is stable……..
    .
Please request the government MPP, Opposition (fake and bona fide both), trade unions, extremists groups, civil activists and all other jokers who put self before country and all external forces near and far, to show restraint and calm down without resorting to typical unscrupulous means to destabilize the government and create artificial anarchy in the country. Tell the country that as the President and as the Prime Minister it is your duty, obligation and responsibility to maintain/restore normalcy in the country and that you two,are not hesitant to take stern measures within your power to foil any such moves whether it is political, social, religious or workplace related.
    .
Have a backbone, you two, President and the Prime Minister. I don’t approve your politics but I don’t want to see the country heading for an irreparable disaster. ACT, before it is too late. Idiots.” UNQUOTE:
    .
The pig-headed-President and the ego-manic-Prime Minister should take the full responsibility of the anarchic situation in the country. You have done an irreparable damage to the country. Your silence over the week have already aggravated anarchic and potentially violent social tensions in the country.
    .
It’s good at least NOW you have the backbone to DECLARE A STATE OF EMERGENCY which gives necessary powers to the Police to curb violence. After the situation is escalated, there’s no other way other than using maximum power to restore normalcy. REMEMBER POLICE: Shoot violators of the law below knees. Not on the head.

You are solely responsible for this situation!

“The President added that all possible steps have been taken to build harmony, unity, understanding and friendship among communities in this context.”
Were these actions taken after your meeting with the notorious dictator/terrorist Mahinda R and the casino+fundraiser Dammika Perera?. Have you forgotten to consult ‘*akkili Maharaja’ this instance for publicity? Yes, I blame the PM for not kicking the SLFP and the UPFA after all the dirty tricks they played with you taking the lead during the local government elections, and forming a UNP government. You are the latest curse after the MR clan for the country. Do you sleep all right at night or do you see the ‘Aveechiya’ in your dreams quite often these days?

Why aren’t these terrorists in saffron robes arrested and jailed for incitement, and promoting hate? Are the police and politicians afraid to do the right thing? Instigators and those spreading fake stories, and rabble rousers, must be dealt with harshly.
Anyone breaking the law, and committing acts of violence against innocent people, should not be tolerated in our society.

To believe a third rate racial President. He promised return of all land by June 2015. Almost three years more than 50 percentage not released. He saves a Genocidal Army man who threatens Tamils on England breaking all respectful norms that high commissioner resigns. Such a racist President says he bring culprits to books. Are we jokers to believe this

We , nation as whole keep believing the political snakes and trusting them. As citizens, we clearly know that they will never fulfill the promises except their pockets. Nevertheless, we will still vote for this bunch of goons !

I think ,we , as an Island nation are doomed.

Mr. President, the time for appeals is over and the vows you make are of no use. Where is the Kaduwa you promised? Just like your motta and rusty Ingirisi kaduwa, the other does not impress anyone. People have no respect for you, only contempt. They are cursing the day that they decided to vote for you.

You have made many promises to get tough and never followed up on any. Sorry, that is not quite right. You have done a wonderful job of being tough on your friends.

You have no plan A, B or C. And you destroy the plans of others as a school boy destroys the better homework of another due to jealousy. At least they had the power and ability to dream of a plan. You have no plan and don’t want any from anyone else.

The country is like a rudderless ship. Worst of all, even if it has a rudder, there is a man – you -standing there with a motta but menacing kaduwa ready to behead any one daring to come close to it.

Rajapakse’s money is working hard against you and the wellbeing of the country. They waited for a cue and they got one at the elections. They don’t care about the people. We are now left leaderless and open for attack, thanks mainly to you.

Yes Edwin, politicians have been paying their lip services knwoing that cow dung spicing masses would not get it easily.
Very same is being applied when focusing them in elections.
See, talk to your family circles, how many of them you think would get it right.
Most are made blind by the system not being able to think bit further. Treating muslims or any others to the manner, destroying and demolishing their lively hoods cant bring anything but spread more hatred waves.
I lately happened to visit the country – in order to attend a DANAYA, but there, I got to see, how beautiful the country has been – specially while traVELLING from COlombo to Unawatuna area – country is beautiful but people s hearts and minds are not so beautiful as their grins depict.
Yesterday I happened to watch YOUTUBE news telecasts, there, I heard some mothers saying about the child molester/murderer found by police after that child s murder somehwere on a remote village- that ” we will teach the man a lession – bring us the man”: That is like in mideval times right ? They still take the justice to their hands. More of thoese villagers are not aware that the police and other authorities ar ethe ones to take actions agianst the kind of molsters.
All in all what I am going to say is almsot over 80% of the lanken population are uncivilized folks. They dont care about law and order or any kind of laws. So how can you tackle the problems with them ?
I believe, Veddahs community would react better than the majority of our people.

Why mob justice?: Samuel, I agree with you in general. Our people are volatile and tend to resort to mob justice. Rajapakse’s money is working and soon he will demand that the government resign because they cannot maintain law and order.

One of the other reason that mob justice is applied is because people have believe that the normal justice system simply does not work. Some politician will interfere, some one bribe the Police and so on and soon the culprit will be free. Thus they have no faith in the rulers of the system of justice.

On another subject, I too visited Unawatuna but could not recognize the place. It has lost its beauty and serenity due to over commercialization without rules. Again the same factor applies. No rules, no systems only bribes, favoritisms etc.

What did these two , My3 and Ranil expect to do by becoming two horns of a
BULL ? The heavy boasting of forty years experience in politics , my foot !
Somewhere between 1994 – 97 Bairaha was grenade – attacked three four
times until it was closed , in Dalugama – Kelaniya . Minister Fernandopulle
was the chief guest and CBK was the president and the chief organizer of
Gampaha District ! Kelaniya Sinhala Trade Association was behind the attack.
In the same year around , at Kiribathgoda Junction , one huge banner in front
of a shop read ” Don’t step into this town,” it was a warning to Gnanam’s St
Anthony’s not to open a branch in Kiribathgoda ! Two business tycoons did
nothing about it other than surrendering to ROGUES , their communities did
nothing , the leaders they helped come to power did nothing , AND THE
TWO PRESIDENTS WHO SERVED TWO TERMS FROM ONE PARTY DID NOTHING
TO UPROOT THESE ROWDIES LIVING BEYOND THE POWER OF LAW AND ORDER
OF A COUNTRY ! HOW WAS IT , AND STILL POSSIBLE ? ANSWER IS SIMPLE !
“Birds of a feather flock together.” And My three is proud of being a true Buddhist
and will seek NIRVANA at the expense of Muslims and Tamils . The country is
fast heading towards anarchy. SOME MONKS , LICENSED TO BE ROGUES and their
brain washed followers coming from outcasts are let loose in the name of RIGHTS
and FREEDOM against law abiding decent citizens of all communities . Sinhala
leaders TOGETHER can stop this menace . THEY DON’T COME TOGETHER MEANS,
THEY ARE PART OF IT AT THE TIMES OF THEIR CHOICE and BECAUSE THE VICTIMS
ARE NOT PART OF THEM .

Amarasiri, I have been impressed with your kNOWledge of the different scriptures and ready reference to various links that explain your argument. The logic used is SPOT ON.
    Thank you.
However, your latest post states that ” We, of the JVP” …… in that context .. the JVP has a questionable past. The Likes of Wimal Weerawansa -Ex-JVP gives content to the manifesto ……. Lie, Lie, do whatever to get their VOTES. —— The current stand of the JVP – we can highlight the various problems .. we have NO clue how to solve them …… So we refuse to take any responsibility………
    Whither Sri Lanka ?
Considering the fact that a NO Confidence motion was scheduled for tomorrow the 7th. STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED on the 6th. Probably an all Island Curfew to follow?
The situation is so intense – that I am having second thoughts about going to a special tent at the ROY-THO where everybody knows everybody. LIQUOR flows! It just takes one RACIST arsehole to create a problem. His friends will support him while my friends will support me……….
    Whither Sri Lanka?

While I continue to vehemently condemn the murder of this poor innocent man by these thugs ,I am happy to welcome the government!s decision on a new law and powers to the Police and Tri forces.

I appeal to the President to request that these murderers who have been the cause and the excuse for the havoc caused, to be given the highest punishment.

Meanwhile today it has become impossible for decent people to drive on the roads these incidents happen every day with unruly drivers tooting their horns impatiently ,swearing at you ,lot of them have dark tinted front glass so even if they hit and run you can not recognize the driver and large Vehicles that are not suppose to drive at a speed more than 40 Km are sometimes doing more than 100 on normal road during heavy traffic and they cut into small vehicles sometimes causing damage and even could be dangerous with their containers bombing about .
Please bring in new laws to this and ban all loud horns.

Thank you ,your Excellency and Hon,PM ,if you implement this for real and if the Police and TRI Forces support you both and execute it ,all of you will be remembered with deep gratitude and honor ,in the entire History of Sri Lanka , they have shot and killed merciless young educated Men and women mostly among Sinhalese and later By both The LTTTE & The Government Tamils only for being rebelling for rights , innocent poor people have been mercilessly shot and killed for fighting for right to safe drinking water and poor of the poorest -The factory workers who are under paid and over worked shot and killed because they demanded for their rights of their blood &sweat, but right from the first communal riot after Independence we never had such a law passed , History will remember you Gentlemen.
we also need to implement death sentence asap ,
