President Wants Sudarshani Fernandopulle To Be Deputy Speaker, UNP To Nominate It’s Own Candidate

The ‘Unity Government’ is on collision course over the appointment of the Deputy Speaker, with the President and Prime Minister at odds over who should take the post.

President Maithripala Sirisena has decided to nominate SLFP MP Sudarshani Fernandopulle, one of the 16 dissidents who broke ranks with the Government and chose to sit in the Opposition.

The vacancy was created when Thilanga Sumathipala resigned and opted to sit in the opposition benches.

The appointment of Fernandopulle is likely to be contested because the United National Party will put forward a candidate of its own, according to party sources.

Meanwhile President Sirisena has appointed university don Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa as the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP). This is the first time in the party’s history that someone who is not in the Central Committee has been directly appointed to the Secretary’s post.

Piyadasa has a long association with the Communist Party of Sri Lanka and was educated in the former Soviet Union.

      KASmaalam K A Sumanasekera

      Where are you.
      CT informs above:

“Piyadasa has a long association with the Communist Party of Sri Lanka and was educated in the former Soviet Union.”

      CT informs elsewhere:
“Dayan Jayatilleka To Be Made Ambassador To Russia”

      What a coincidence
Sirisena also wants to buy a naval ship (whether it is seaworthy or not) from Russia for $158 Millions.

Sirisena should have sent his brat along with Namal baby as invited poll observer of the Russian Presidential elections to build family to family relationship.

Sumanthiran opposed Angayan Ramanathan, a Tamil SLFPer , to become a deputy speaker. Sudarshini is wife of a Tamil SLFPer ,Late Fernandopulle. Who knows Sumanthiran might oppose her too.

      Sadhu:
Check your facts with regard to Fernandopulle being a “Tamil.”
      You are wrong.

Well! severe cracks are now shown in the unity government. After some time, don’t ultimately lament that this disunity helped the “pohottuwa”.

Reward for putting her neck out the No Confidence Motion bought by Sillysena through the back door. This is a woman that did not fight to really find out who killed her husband when got absorbed to the govt through the back door. She will he happy, husband should be rolling in his grave.

Considerable political experience is needed to steer an unruly parliament. Thilanga Sumathipala, in spite of his chequered business and private life, did have the experience. Is this a ploy to bring him back?
Sudarshani Fernandopulle may prove to be a good Deputy Speaker. A Srima in the making?
But putting her forward is to gain some political millage. If she looses it will be made out that it is because of TNA – even if they abstain. If she wins it will be in spite of TNA.

Nowadays you dont find good and honest doctors any more than good and honest politicians.

Dr. Fdopulle studied at Ave Maria Convent inNegombo in the Sinhalese medium. Fernandopulles are well versed in Tamil too and it comes naturally to them. You will never find someone called Warnakulasuriya Sudharshani Fernandopulle.
