Presidential Election Results: Our Message Is Clear

By R. Sampanthan

R. Sampanthan

The Presidential election held on 2019.11.16 to elect the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka has been peaceful and Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa has been declared elected as the President of the Republic of Sri Lanka. We extend to him our congratulations.

I take this opportunity to thank the Elections Commissioner and his staff, Security Forces, all other public servants, Local and International monitors, and to all Leaders and members of all political parties for all their support and commitments in conducting a peaceful election.

The people belonging to all Administrative and Electoral districts in the North and the East have very largely voted for Mr. Sajith Premadasa who in his Election Manifesto outlined certain features pertaining to the resolution of the longstanding national question.

The Tamil National Alliance requested the people to vote for Mr. Sajith Premadasa and for his symbol the Swan. This was based on the concept of maximum devolution of power, and thereby achieving a solution to the national question within a united undivided indivisible Sri Lanka. All major political parties and leaders have accepted that maximum devolution of power is needed to find a solution to the national question.

Accepting our request and rejecting the call to boycott or to vote for a Tamil candidate and by voting for Mr. Sajith Premadasa the Tamil people have sent a clear message to the leaders of our country and to the international community, that the Tamil people are firm in achieving their rights, within a united undivided indivisible country. On behalf of the Tamil National Alliance, I wish to take this opportunity to thank the Tamil people and I also urge that this unity must be preserved and continued.

Our wish is that the new President will respect the very substantial democratic verdict of the Tamil people of the North and East and it is my belief that he will do so. It is only then that we can bring about a sense of oneness and the feeling that we are all equal citizens of one country and this country will be protected and that by creating such an environment we can achieve major economic and social development which will benefit all the people of this country.

This is the message I wish kindly to bring to the notice of the new President and those who are aligned with him, on behalf of the Tamil people.

Once again, I thank all Tamil people who followed our advice and voted for Mr. Sajith Premadasa and his symbol of the swan, and also extend our congratulations to the new President.

    Mr. Sampanthan

“Maximum Devolution of power”. Power for what? To decide. To decide is to have money. To enable it, incontrovertible fundamental is the ‘Spirit of government to share resources’. appropriate legislative enactment follows. Supporting it are:

    (1) Financial resources objectively computed, precisely prescribed in law and sanctioned by Parliament.

    (2) Administrative support to deliver concrete results.

May it be known that in India, of the nation’s annual financial resources; 68% flow to the states and 32% is retained by the centre. This is the concept and spirit of – ‘Maximum Devolution.’

I guess you did not get our message. “Live in peace in a unitary Sri Lanka or leave”

Stupid fellow, did you not get the message from India to Gota – “Settle the ethnic problem according to the wishes of Tamils”. Ask Gota why he is silent after receiving it. Riot act will be read to him when he visits India. Comply without trying to act tough.

        Hello Hello Mr. Doctor GS.

        What problem…ethnic problem ?
Its those who dream of an EELAM that moan and harp about an ethnic problem in SL. The country cannot be ‘divided’ just because politicians ( Tamil, Mulim, Sinhala) have jointly messed it up. All communities across the country have enough problems. And GR will put things in order, bring discipline across aisles, says who, the majority in SL masses who voted GR en-mass into office.

Just give the new President some time … will you ?
He might consider your wishes, in case he fails to deliver on his promises.

Meanwhile, you might be of better use in India, when GR visits India. So why not go there, even migrate to TN, and present your case to LOK SABA ? Good Luck !

        Dr. gnana sankaralingam

It’s jungle rule that big is to be the dominator.

It won’t happen when SL & India concerned because we think that India is civilized so uncivilized Tamil expectations will never be successful.

There’s no ethnic problem in SL except a cry of racist set of Tamils.

        India must understand it.

SL people want to dismantle PCs too.

Our message is clear too. I am sure Sambandan et al heard it loud and clear. Prez Gotabaya rejected 13D outright. The rest of the country endorsed that rejection. Whatever devolution he talks about, it will be within a unitary state. They have a choice. Sambandan can try to keep his cattle in a mono ethnic ghetto/hellhole to rot or could join the rest of the country in their forward march. Choice is yours mate.

Modi in his message delivered to Gota has clearly told him to meet the aspirations of Tamils for equality, justice, peace and dignity. Why did your cardboard weeraya not utter a single word against it. How can he go against this order when he has played to the Sinhala gallery to win their votes. You cannot fool BJP like Congress. This is why I had been saying that Gota should win to put him at loggerheads with International community. In 1956 SWRD unleashed mad dogs, whom he could not control which cost his life. Now Gota has unleashed mad dogs and will he able to control them when pressurized by International community. Another parippu drop in the offing?.

Just Remind yourself of the ‘north revered’ pathetically coward Tamil Terrorist Piripaharan who went down the tubes. That was mostly thanks to this Lion who shall remain a Lion against all odds. He does not need to prove that to the world any more.

My reading is that most Tamil people did not vote for Mr Rajapaksa because they could not forget the violence committed on tamil civilians during the aftermath of the war and not because TNA advised them to do so. TNA’s open support of Mr Premadasa was a tactless move. A detailed essay is needed to discuss the reasons.
Now there is a justifiable belief among Tamils that TNA puts the interest of their party ahead of the interest of the Tamils. Even this article by Mr Sambanthar is about promoting his party. At this stage Tamil people need a selfless capable leader; Mr Sambanthar may not fit the bill.
TNA must avoid promoting itself and work for the betterment of the Tamil people. If not they will be in for a shock at the next parliamentary election.

Until such time the Tamils abandon the “us vs them” mindset nothing will progress. Tamils have got their brains hardwired onto a dream of establishing a separate country or federal state that’s not going to happen. Only a power hungry/selfish traitor like Ranil will agree to such a move as long as he can be in power. With Sinhalese comprising of nearly 70% of the population and a world that’s getting increasingly smaller, the self-rule dream is not going to materialize ever. However, if Tamils do decide to change their mindset and contribute towards the development of Sri Lanka (and abandon their ethnic based political ideologies) they can join mainstream society and be proud Sri Lankans. Else just shut up and move to Tamil Nadu.

Why don’t you Sinhalese first get rid of your ethnic religion and race based ideologies and the country will improve . It is the Sinhalese who are the problem no one else. Most of them are brainwashed racist to the core and religious fanatics , who create all the problems, supress and discriminate the three Tamil minorities and them play the poor me victim card. Tamils are asking for what is correctly theirs nothing more nothing less. It is Sinhalese racists like you who want everything and even if a Tamil asks space to breathe or live or eat , the demand is too much and racist. Go and get a life racist . Most of you Sinhalese are descended from Tamils not from North Indians , East Indians or anyone and everything about the Sinhalese including a lot of their vocabulary reflects the their Tamil origin , yet so much hatred for the Tamils.

    Rphan,
“Tamils are asking for what is correctly theirs nothing more nothing less.”

Can the descendants of Malabar Demala slaves brought to Sinhale by colonial parasites illegally tell us ‘What is correctly yours’?
    —-
    • It is racist Sinhala Buddhists who accommodated millions of Dravidians brought to Sinhale by colonial parasites to make money for themselves and gave citizenship in Sinhale to these Stateless people. Colonial parasites dumped them in this country and washed their hands off.
    • It is racist Sinhala Buddhists who saved Muslims when they faced persecution by Portuguese slaughterers, allowed them to settle down in interior parts of the country amongst Native Sinhalayo and eventually accepted them as citizens of Sinhale.
    • It is racist Sinhala Buddhists who gave shelter to thousands of Demalu when they were attacked by UNP thugs in 1983.
    • It is racist Sinhala Buddhists who provided a safe haven to Demalu who fled North to escape from LTTE barbarians.
    • It is racist Sinhala Buddhists who did not harm a single Demala person when LTTE massacred Buddhist worshippers at Sri Maha Bodhi and bombed Dalada Maligawa.
    • It is racist Sinhala Buddhists who sent tons of relief materials to Demala people in the North after elimination of LTTE terrorism.
    • It is racist Sinhala Buddhists who allowed Demalu to swarm Colombo and build Kovils all over the place.

Instead of being grateful to Native Sinhalayo for what they have done these ‘Para’ people are blaming Native Sinhalayo as racists. Real racists are Malabar Demala Wellala elites. Get rid of them. You people will be better off.
