Question Number One: Gota A Wanker Over His “Concerns” Of Public Sector Corruption

Corruption cases against Gotabaya Rajapaksa currently in court considerably dampen enthusiasm over his recent tirade against public sector corruption.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa

Gotabaya, who is widely expected to run for President, speaking at a Viyathmaga event last Sunday (14th) underlined pubic sector corruption as one of the factors that need urgent attention. He was unveiling his ‘Vision 2030’ which is essentially a policy statement of Viyathmaga, an organization many believe was put together to promote Rajapaksa’s probable candidacy.

The following are three questions that Rajapaksa no doubt would have to answer at some point in his campaign:

a) As the Chief Accounting Officer of the Defence Ministry, did he not know that there was a US $ 7 million difference between the Government of Sri Lanka’s payment to Bellimissa Holdings (a non existent company) said to be in UK and Bellimissa Holdings’ payment to Ukrinmarsh, the Ukraine government arm that sold the MiGs?

b) What happened to the file connected with this purchase which was in the custody of the Sri Lanka Air Force that has since gone missing?

c) Why is he not facing Court to answer these charges but resorting to delaying tactics ?

Academic Exposing Corrupt War Procurement Tender Process Threatened By Rajapaksa Government (December 07, 2013 Colombo Telegraph

The Rajapaksa Government has commenced a campaign to threaten and intimidate Sri Lankan academic Dr. Thrishantha Nanayakkara who exposed for the first time the tender procedure about the controversial MiG 27 purchase by the Defence Ministry in an article he wrote in the Colombo Telegraph recently.

Dr. Thrishantha Nanayakkara

Dr. Nanayakkara’s family in Sri Lanka have been visited by military intelligence officials who have urged him to stop writing, the Colombo Telegraph learns. He has since de-activated his Facebook account.

Repeated attempts made by Colombo Telegraph to reach Dr. Nanayakkara have proved futile.

Dr. Nanayakkara is a Senior Lecturer at the King’s College London, where he is attached to the Centre for Robotics Research. As an ex-academic at the University of Moratuwa, Dr. Nanayakkara has served on the technical evaluation committees at the Defence Ministry run by President Rajapaksa’s brother Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The controversial MiG 27 deal was first revealed by Sunday Times Defence Correspondent and Senior Journalist Iqbal Athas in December 2006 and further exposed in The Sunday Leader then edited by murdered Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge.

Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa filed legal action against The Sunday Leader newspaper to prevent further exposure of the corrupt deal. The investigative reports on the MiG deal proved to be one of the last reports on controversial defence purchases under Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s reign in Sri Lanka’s mainstream press.

In a recent article published in the Colombo Telegraph, Dr. Nanayakkara claimed that the Ministry of Defence calls on academics to sit on Technical Evaluation Committees for defence purchases, gives them less than 24 hours to review documentation and then finally blames academics when things begin to go wrong.

In his latest article, Dr. Nanayakkara notes that it was very unfortunate that the Ministry of Defence itself took to exposing the names of professionals and the recommendations of those TECs when things went wrong. “It seemed to us that the professionals who were kept in the darkness whole throughout the TEC process were just used as a cleansing shield in the event things go wrong. I am not alone in this concern. One can check with any academic in the University system in Sri Lanka on this,” he explains.

Responding to the fraud said to have taken place when purchasing MIG 27 fighters for Sri Lanka Air Force, the Ministry of Defence exposed the names of the Technical Evaluation Committee.

    Gotabaya Rajapaksa ,

RE: Question Number One: Gota A Wanker Over His “Concerns” Of Public Sector Corruption

    Very interesting, indeed!.

Do you mean, the current corruption level is well below compared to when Mahinda Rajapaksa was President and you were the defense secretary?

Since the mean IQ of the Para-populace is 79, you will have a lot of takers, commonly called suckers. After all, they say ‘Sinhalaya Modaya,” Sinhalese are fools.

National IQ Scores – Country Rankings

    https://photius.com/rankings/national_iq_scores_country_ranks.html

The intelligence scores came from work carried out earlier this decade by Richard Lynn, a British psychologist, and Tatu Vanhanen, a Finnish political scientist, who analysed IQ studies from 113 countries, and from subsequent work by Jelte Wicherts, a Dutch psychologist.

        Dear Jim softy,

WE ALL know that you are a Para-Sinhala following Para-Sinhala Buddhism, that is not Buddhism, resulting in mayhem in the Land of Native Veddah Aethho, for ALL Paras in the Land, mainly because the mean IQ of the Paras is a low 79, and many Para-Sinhala “Buddhists” do not even know what Buddhism is all about.. This is exploited by the politicians, especially Rajapaksas and their cronies.

This is made quite worse for Jim softy, because his z-score is quite negative and less than -2. of the IQ distribution. So, he cannot figure out the head or tail, and doesn’t know shit from Shinola.

Shinola was a brand of shoe polish previously manufactured in the USA. The alliteration and the fact that the two commodities in the phrase could possibly be confused is the derivation. The distinction is well made; only one of them would be good to apply to your shoes and only particularly dim people ( Jim softy) could be expected to muddle them up.

Has Gota read any of those books on the shelf ? Who are they fooling ? Should not he display some Sri lankan icons-elephant carvings, dancers, some army officers in uniform, ‘pirith nool’ around his wrist ?

The only thing going for Gota and the Rajapakses is Ranil- an abject failure pretending to be a know all.

Because Ranil is so stupid and inefficient anyone opposing him looks good.

If this country had real men, Gota will look like a over blown security guard, half baked and operating much above his intelligence level.

      LAC3 (rtd) Buddhadasa ,

      Definition of a wanker ,

      1. Someone with a faintly sociopathic lack of regard for other people

      2. Someone useless, inefficient or time-wasting, especially in a place or work and/or position of responsibility.

      3. A general term of abuse.

our public trust in politicians is very poor.We are currently ranked 96th out of `37 countries. Our civil society groups have to formulate better standards to qualify to represent the people.honesty, integrity,no nepotism, proper education, leadership qualities etc minimum standards for entry level etc.For example no murderers and psychopaths please.

A close competitor like vietnam,a communist country is ranked 46.Indonesia is 42.taiwan which is a very similar looking island to ours is 35.India is 33 and malaysia is 29.China is 27 and japan 26.UK,us and canada are 17,16 and 15 respectively.NZ is 3rd and singapore is first. You can see from this that other countries are making efforts to improve the quality of their politicians, all except us.

What chance have we with the rubbish we send to represent and work for us.Goodbye srilanka.

    Wankers can’t win Wars….
Dr Ranil is a good example..
What is USD 7 Million to stop 30 years of total destruction of the Nation by Tamil Terrorists.
Dr Ranil gave his Singaporean mate’s SIL, LKR 11 Biilion
Even with the depreciated Yahapalana Ruppiah it is a heck of lot more than USD 7 Million.
Dr Ranil has borrowed nearly 10 Billion USD in just 3 years of Yahapalanaya .
And Dr Ranil hasn’t built even one Toilet for the Dalits to show for it.
But Colombo Elites Queen UNP Rosi Akka is going to renovate the Shit Holes in Mayoral House at a cost of 57 Million Ruppiah ,
Compare that with the cost of MIGs which saved the 2500 old Sinhala Buddhist Nation .
Wonder whether the UNP Muzamalli ,who was occupying the Mayoral Digs before was using a Muslim style Loo which you get in Kualampur.
For Rosi akka to spend that sort of money for a renovation..
May be squatting is hard with the Age..

I do not wish to be controversial but I get the feeling that columnists of CT tend to spread “Gota-phobia” on the presumption that he would be a candidate for the next presidential election. The behavior hints that there is a strong possibility that he might win the popular vote. Why? Because there is a real fear that by 2020 the MY3(SLFP) and the UNP combine might split by that time again caused by the unacceptable record of the alliance as shown by the local Government elections. In such circumstances, the voters would have a sorry choice picking the better out of the bad guys and gals. (The best among the failing grades and give the fellow a prize.) So, in my humble view we must drive the Government in power to be more people-centric and at least do a few good things within the remainder of its tenure so that some of the lost popularity be regained and refrain from doing acts like in the Bond Scam etc.

Mr Velupulle Thangavelu has nothing to worry about Dr Dayan who is no body now, with Dr Ranil in charge.
This Mr Velupulle in contrast has Dr Ranil’s Mouth Piece, Dr Rajitha not only as their the best mate but also a a determined brave fighter to give the LTTE supporters their Eelaam after punishing the War Heroes for War Crimes..
The way Dr Rajiths accused the Srilnakan Army of Killing Innocent Tamils was really forceful .
And it would lead to instant conviction of the War Heroes, when Dr Ranil brings in the Hybrid Courts..
The fact that these allegations were made while sitting next to the supposed to be the mouth piece of the Srilankan Army Commander is not only frightening but mind boggling too..
The way the Army Mouth piece kept quiet and looked meekly is even more frightening..
Has Dr Rajitha bludgeoned the current Army Commander to silence.
Dr Rajith went even further to fully endorse the LTTE supporters and the TNA commemorations of their late Leader Pirahaparan.
And compared the LTTE boss to late Mr Wijeweera and and addrssed that Vellupille as Mr Pirahaparan.
And emphasized that what Mr Velupulle Pirahaparan did was exactly what Mr Rohana Wijeweera did.
And the LTTE is the Tamil version of the JVP.
Wonder whether this is what current JVP boss Mr Anura Kumara told the Vellala Kid Abraham ,while they were pounding the pavements of Yalpanam recently wearing Red Shirts.

Look, do you want the war criminal wankers to have open and free access to coffers just because they killed unprecedented number of innocent people? If you thought its worth paying them for killing every person they did of course why can’t we pay them by piece work, fixed piece rate for each person killed, different rate for disappearance, or another rate for maiming, regardless of time, some build in bonus system would be nice.

Whom do you thing should get different rate of pay.
By this way there would be some orderly way of accounting for payments.

New Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, who pulled a stunning election victory last week that unseated Najib’s National Front coalition after 60 years in power, reopened a probe into a state investment fund that is being investigated abroad. Najib started the fund in 2009 and U.S. investigators say at least $4.5 billion was stolen and laundered by Najib’s associates, some of which landed in his bank account.

Mahathir said Wednesday that arrests will be made as soon as there is evidence and there’ll be “no deal” for Najib.

MR lost power on Jan 8 2015. His family went to Medamulana by helicopter courtesy Yahapalana Govt. Difference between Malaysia and Srilanka is both MS and RW protecting the mega Fraudsters and Murderers.

We have the ‘New-Terrorism’ to deal with.
Last Saturday (12 May), former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg in his commencement speech at Rice University told graduates ~ “………….The greatest threat to American democracy isn’t communism, jihadism, or any other external force or foreign power. It’s our own willingness to tolerate dishonesty in service of party, and in pursuit of power………….”.
In SL, corruption/nepotism/impunity are not only tolerated but respectified.

This “Viyath Maga” convention held on 14th May at “SangriLa” hotel (built on the land that once belonged to the Army of S/L, and SOLED by MR Regime) was “BLESSED” with more than 2000 “Professionals” in attendance. Those “Professionals” were all from within Sri Lanka. One among the “Leading” “Professionals” was Mr. Nalaka Godahewa (an Engineer by Profession) who, believed to be the main “Think Tank” of the “Viyath Maga”. It would be of interesting to know that he is one among many of Gota’s associates who has been already charged in Courts and the cases are pending. The ONE and the ONLY question to be raised from those 2000 or more “Professionals” of Sri Lanka is : AREN’T THEY AWARE OF THE FRAUDS AND CRIMES COMMITTED BY THIS MR’S REGIME (including Gota) ? Of course, all of them have one “Answer”: None of those charges have been “PROVED” so far and therefore MR’s Regime members (his family and goons) are “INNOCENT”. In a way, we can’t blame these “Professionals”, because in Sri Lanka, a large majority of them (the “PROFESSIONALS”) are “DEAF”; “DUMB” and more than anything else “SELF SEEKING” and waiting to be “PICKED” up by “CROOKS” of all fields who need GUIDANCE in carrying out their “BUSINESSES”. So, this “Presidential Contender” ( a NON PROFESSIONAL, the picker “CROOK” in BUSINESS ) has very correctly and ably deployed the services of “PROFESSIONALS” to build a “High Way” to nothing but POWER, that also to “PROVE” his and his associates “INNOCENCE” of all the charges pending in courts.

Gotabhaya who was deaf dumb and blind for the entire Rajapaksa regime has suddenly woken up for selfish reasons. Certain institutions and certain individuals worked for him are under investigations for assault, murder, disappearances, bribery and corruption. Gotabhaya’s lame attempt to distance himself from the previous regime is futile. He was an integral part of Mahinda’s administration.
    .
Bribery and corruption can never be eliminated by only punishing one party. Charging the receiver is incomplete without charging the giver. Bribery is a two-way transaction. Why do allegations of bribery in our country always a one way charge? This is wrong. It doesn’t matter the giver tips off the bribery officials. But the giver should also be charged when the case is filed. That is the only way to eliminate bribery.

The previous government and the former powerful Defence Secretary should be held responsible for the plight of military and police officers who were arrested and remanded for assault, murder and disappearances based on unsubstantiated allegations. If they could afford, they also could have got a ruling of prevention of arrest. Now Gotabhaya’s supporters are hurling accusations against SF and others. Very good. But why can’t they go to the CID and share their evidence voluntary so that the imprisoned military and police officers could be bailed out????

Obviously a lot of bloggers in here do not like Gota, neither do i the way he tried to rewrite the history of the 30yr war and failed, because it turned out that people have a better memory of things than Gota. However on the question of who is going to be elected as the next Pres, I would much rather like to see someone like anura Kumara or SF taking the lead, but if they two passed on the baton, I sure would have voted Gota if he contested, and if I had a vote. That is despite all the negative things said about him above. Out there in the open, there is a great following for him. I am uanble to predict what it is, so we just have to wait and see.

Just go and check into Gota’s reply on this issue. Under his control Gota eliminated a lot of corruption in Defence ministry, especially those involving purchase of military equipment. During CBK days, corruption had hit to a massive scale. No one who earns commissions by purchasing arms in defence ministry would try to finish the war.

Pilferage/burning/theft, of documents of/from offices of courts of law in Sri Lanka, have been reported over the years in the media.
Many cases of arson of courts of law have occurred.
Police being the most corrupt department in the country, and this being known to the judiciary, the magistrate ordering the police to investigate the ‘disappearance’ of documents from government offices and court houses, is a big farce.

Adding to this, a magistrate ordering media out of courts while evidence regarding a massive alleged scam was being heard, appears to favour the accused person(s).
Is not such an order, not against norms of judicial procedure and dispensation of justice by courts of law?

Sri Lanka may be the only country where such things happen.
Is it any wonder that theft and fraud in official transactions are common?
Why are the Bar Association and top judiciary silent about this state of affairs.

At this rate, the country is going into an irreversible path of massive injustice.

The forums here have gone down to a new low, there is not intelligent discussion, just character assassination, the Rajapaksha haters just type hate speech against the Sinhala Buddhists and the Rajapakshas, unless Colombo Telegraph go back to some level of decency and intellect it would lose the potential for any interesting debate.
