Rajapaksa henchman Mervyn Silva has lodged a complaint against the Rajapaksa brothers Basil and Gotabaya in the Bribery and Corruption Commission today.

He had also handed over files relating to the corruption charges made against Basil and Gotabhaya, which he has claimed occurred during the Rajapaksa regime.
Silva was one of former President Rajapaksa‘s favourites but it seems he was dropped out from his close circles during the final months of the Rajapaksa regime. News reports have been emerging on Silva’s possible crossover to the common Opposition but those within the common Opposition coalition have vehemently expressed their objection over the matter.

This might be a ruse of the Rajapakses to swamp the Bribery Commission with cases so that nothing will get done. Moreover, MR & Co are not that stupid to leave a money trail for someone to catch them later. All tracks would be well covered through double or treble laundering. The easier thing to do is to show the gap between a realistic price for projects or purchases and what was actually paid and question why had that been so. Obviously, there would be no answers from MR&Co. But the public will know who robbed the treasury and by how much and how that adversely translates to the living standards of the people. That is the message that should be driven.
