Abusing tax payer money the former Urban Development Minister Wimal Weerawansa gave millions of rupees worth of free rides to both militant Buddhist monks and Journalists.

The convener of the militant Buddhist monk brigade Ravana Balaya Iththakande Saddhatissa had been given three vehicles a month amounting to almost Rs 2 million a year, whilst prominent Irida Lankadeepa journalist Prasanna Sanjeewa Thennakoon of the Wijeya Group’s vehicle cost was over Rs 800,000. These figures only for 2014.
These facts were revealed by Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure Harin Fernando when the no confidence motion against Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake was been debated in parliament yesterday.
The militant Budhhist monk’s three vehicles were rented at a monthly cost of Rs 45,000 each with an annual fuel costing of Rs 386,742. On the other hand journalist Thennakoon’s monthly vehicle rental cost was Rs 38,000 with an annual fuel cost of Rs 373,253 being paid by the Urban Development Authority.

It is yet to be established as to on what basis these vehicles were rented for both monk Iththakande Saddhatissa and Wijeya Group journalist Thennakoon, as they have no direct involvement with the Urban Development Ministry.
This revelation is contrary to the earlier audit report where it was stated that the militant monk Iththakande Saddhatissa was given only one vehicle.
“This reveation is only from the former Minister Weerawansa’s UDA Ministry. We don’t know how many more other monks and journalists benefited through the other ministries. These must be investigated by the Yahapalanaya government too” said an anti corruption activist.

The Sri Lanka Freedom Bhikku Organisation (SLFBO) has urged former President and Kurunegala district MP Mahinda Rajapaksa to form a separate political party and contest future elections in order to save the SLFP.
“We cannot trust the present SLFP leadership to protect the party due to his acts and words expressed by him, SLFBO Secretary Ven.Watinapaha Somananda Thera said on the 9th.
The January 8 mandate is no longer valid as the people have realised the truth now. If an election is held now,the former President will poll over seven million votes.
Therefore, we request the government to hold the Local Government election as soon as possible, the Thera said, addressing a media briefing in Colombo today.
Ven. Watinapaha Somananda Thera further said that SLFPers at village level and at state institutions have been left destitute by the group of SLFP MPs and Ministers who joined with the government.
“They no longer care about the plight of the disgruntled and victimised SLFP supporters. There is no use of them in the government if they can not look after their own party members. The people will chase them out in a future election,” he said.
Former President Rajapaksa handerd over the SLFP to the present President Sirisena in good faith thinking that the party and it’s members would be protected and strengthened. But the party has already been destroyed while the members are helpless today.
President Sirisena has also forgotten the Bhikkus who have been in the forefront to protect the SLFP from 1952. He also does not listen to the advise of Bhikkus and a number of Bhikkus have been jailed in the recent past. “SLFPers do not want a leader who fulfill the demands of the UNP.
Therefore, a leader who truly loves the party and the country should be elected by calling a Party Convention,” the Thera added.
He said the SLFBO which met recently unanimously approved 10 proposals in order to protect the SLFP.
Among these proposals are protecting Pancha Maha Balawega and the Security Forces, ending revenge politics, ensuring the security of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, preventing economic destruction, frauds and malpractices, not removing Security Forces camps in the North and East, eliminating crime waves, preventing the sale of public properties, rescuing the Maha sanga from the current oppression situation and ending the university student suppression and ensuring the brighter future for them.

The JVP’s policy framework titled Our Vision could not certainly be called our vision, Wimalaratna Attho, spokesman and translator for Veddha Chief Uruwarige Wannila attho said yesterday.
Wimalaratna Attho told The Island that former leader of the JVP Somawansa Amarasinghe had visited Veddha Chief Uruwarige Wannila Attho recently and presented his party’s new manifesto titled Our Vision to him. “He [Somawansa] just presented a sheaf of papers to the Chief. Various people come to meet our Chief who grants an audience to them. The Chief does not differentiate these visitors on their political or ideological differences. Welcoming these visitors also does not mean we subscribe to their policies .”
Wimalaratna Attho said that many people had visited the Veddha Chief and presented papers similar to the manifesto of the JVP. “These pieces of paper have no value. There would be value only if they could put the content into practice. We cannot comment on the content of the manifesto. The U.N. system for calculating member nations’ “fair share” payment toward its regular and peacekeeping budgets has increasingly shifted the burden away from the vast majority of the 193 members and onto a relative handful of high-income nations, especially the U.S. Indeed, some nations pay next to nothing.
Each year the United States gives approximately $8 billion in mandatory payments and voluntary contributions to the United Nations and its affiliated organizations. The biggest portion of this money – about $3 billion this year 2015– goes to the U.N.’s regular and peacekeeping budgets.
In 2015, 35 countries were charged the minimum regular budget assessment of 0.001 percent which works out to approximately$28,269 each. Twenty countries will be charged the minimum peacekeeping assessment of 0.0001 percent or approximately $8,470 apiece.
By contrast, the U.S. is assessed 22 percent of the regular budget (approximately $622 million) and over 28 percent of the peacekeeping budget (approximately $2.402 billion).
Put another way, the U.S. will be assessed more than 176 other member states combined for the regular budget and more than 185 countries combined for the peacekeeping budget. Who says America isn’t exceptional!

The UN report released last week attacked both coalition and rebel forces for a “very large number of violations” including attacks on schools and hospitals, but said the coalition was responsible for 60% of the child deaths and injuries in Yemen last year.
So there was outrage on Monday when the UN said it had removed the coalition from its annual child rights blacklist pending a joint review by the world body and the coalition of those deaths and injuries.

The yahapalana government is systematically dismantling Modawanse. Whenever Modawanse does a monkey show few of his corruption cases were released. There must be tons of his files left in his ministry to be exposed.
