Rajapaksa State Media’s Editor Rajpal Justifies Attacks Against Muslims

Editor of the Daily News the Rajapaksa state-owned newspaper has accused minority groups of provoking the violence that broke out in Aluthgama and Beruwala while justifying the attacks against Muslims.

Rajpal

Rajpal

Quite infamous for his controversial stances, Rajpal Abeynayake has written the ‘incidents’ that occurred in Southern Sri Lanka, which resulted in three deaths and vast property damages, is the result of ‘considerable provocations’.

“The government has submitted the facts to the UNHRC and the video evidence is available,” he has asserted while adding, the evidence points to what he describes as ‘grievous provocations’ by some minority groups that incited the anti-Muslim violence.

Moreover, based upon his belief that the violence was instigated by certain minority groups, he has gone on to justify the attacks against the Muslims in the Aluthgama and Beruwala areas. “Violence begets violence and that is the eternal verity,” the editorial reads.

He has furthermore written that due to claims, which are being ‘spuriously’ circulated blaming a government-protected group for instigating the anti-Muslim violence, the involvement of minority groups in provoking the attacks have been discounted.

He has continued to state with certainty that it wasn’t this ‘much malinged outfit’ (a phrase Abeynayake has used instead of naming the Bodu Bala Sena that is being accused of instigating the violence) that provoked the violence.

We publish below the editorial in full;

DESPITE ALL THE LIES …

The opposition leader in an interview given to a private broadcaster says that there is no democracy in the country, and he adduces that as a reason for the failure of his party to win elections.

A democracy deficit however, is his description for the reality that people are not prepared to give him the power to govern on a platter.

He now as a matter of course comes out with the thickest and most barefaced lies against government programs such as the Mahindyodaya.

His acolytes come out with lies that better his own. Besides this, there is an entire sponsored civil society army whose sole job essentially is to lie in order to get a lackey Ranil Wickremesinghe government in power.

The foreign media is prepared to lie for Wickremesinghe as well, and as far as Western media goes this seems also to be the one job they are dedicated to.

Freedom of speech has never been so much in evidence, and never been so abused, and yet, Wickremesinghe’s main excuse for being in opposition and not in government is the argument that he is the victim of a democracy deficit.

Meanwhile, the web of lies against Sri Lanka — not the government but the Sri Lankan people — seems to pile up by the minute.

It has climaxed in the spurious probe effort that has been mounted by what is ostensibly a UNHRC sanctioned OHCHR panel.

It is a well known fact that it is the same Ranil Wickremesinghe and his political acolytes who will offer at least part of the fodder in the form of lies and exaggerations for this team whose mandate is not to investigate, but to destroy Sri Lanka.

In this context, Ranil Wickremesinghe, one learns, has not only the best team of liars at his disposal but also a maximum of free speech — untrammeled free expression — that can be unleashed against the government at his will and pleasure, and yet he complains of a democracy deficit!

The lies against the government are so substantial that most times they are capable of overrunning the facts on any given issue, and turning the entire narrative on its head.

This for instance seems to be the result of the propaganda that has been carried out with regard to two towns in the Southern coastal belt which recently witnessed unrest.

That the incidents though horrendous and not to be condoned were the result of considerable provocations, is discounted.

The government has submitted the facts to the UNHRC and the video evidence is available.

There were what certainly appear to be grievous provocations by some minority groups that caused tempers to flare, and violence to break out.

This should not have happened. Violence begets violence and that is the eternal verity.

However, the narrative line that came out of Aluthgama, and was spuriously despatched to the world as well, was that a group having the protection of the government was responsible for the incidents.

It is not this much maligned outfit that provoked the violence, though it’s bona fides should also be subject to scrutiny.

The biggest lie in this context was the fact that the government was majoritarian and is indifferent to violence against minorities.

Nothing could be further from the truth. In the teeth of egregious provocations the government has bent over backwards to accommodate Muslim and other minority groups, but the lies trump this truth.

In a situation in which lies and an enormous mountain of the most egregious and obvious of fictions form the case against the people of Sri Lanka, none of this comes as any surprise.

It’s germane in the above context however, that if there is a web of lies the biggest of them is the one that was articulated by Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe in his recent interview — the one about what is standing in the way of the people and a government headed by him.

This statement about a failure of democracy says a lot more about Wickremesinghe than it does about the state of the country!

Rajkattapal Abeynayake and his good buddy “Bijay” who prefers to call himself Ambassador in Sydney are afforded periodical trips to brothel houses of their choice for services rendered to Rajapassa regime. This appears to be an open secret. Morons!

Daily News is the Passa’s mouth piece, and dutiful servants. This man must be paid in some way or the other, to spew their propaganda. The entire world knows what happened in Aluthgama, and who exactly “provoked” the entire massacre. The Muslims were brutally gunned down in their Mosque protecting their families, it did not happen near a temple. Get real Rajpal. You are living in denial or doing the bidding of the ruling regime – a no no in journalism.

Aney Rajpal Kabanayake, you poor long-suffering soul…. I cried tears of grief for the innocence of the administration that you so steadfastly defend; being the symbiotic speck of shite on their body that you are. Me wonders why this louse-infested and soon-to-be put-down administration needs a lying news rag such as yours to defend it, if there is a free and robust press in the country that kept notoriously silent for a week after those miserable acts of incitement by yellow-robed thugs down south recently?

You too, like that other tick Malinda (who is by the way a lot more suave though no less a shill than you) are an unmitigated disgrace to your alma mater and I think you know it well. Better sing louder for your remaining plates of buth as you may soon not have any coming your way buddy…

Stupid Rajpal can write anything he wants and the Government can provide any videos to UNHCR. At the end of the day when one sees the BBS Gnanasara Thero’s speech they will make the correct assessment. We all know who this Rajpal is.

      Ravana

“No wonder he is so ugly.”

One shouldn’t judge his ugliness by his facial features but by his thoughts, words and deeds. He is definitely an ugly vermin.

He displays a unique hand sign and I find it most difficult to identify it with any of the known American Gang.

Does his hand sign tell us anything about him, his gang, the country in which he live, his thoughts, words and deeds?

Anyone who is familiar with his hand sign are welcome to educate us.

Rajpal Abeynayake will soon have to change his approach to the ‘Muslim issue’, if he wants to keep his job. But why? Find out the reason from the top item on my Facebook Wall under – Vasantha Raja. [I don’t think many people know about the recent meeting at Temple Trees where ambassadors from many Muslim countries met with President Rajapakse and checkmated him.]

Rajpal and MR are promoting their agenda. Similarly other publications such as the Colombo telegraph are promoting their agenda under the “freedom of press” banner. Stupid readers are taken in for a ride by both.

But you mean the responsibilty of the state press should have to fall to the level of those go clearly against the brutal regime ?

I have no doubt, once the MR has no more power – Rajapal has to find quarantene to continue his life. This kind of abysmal levels have only been fired by his articles.
People of this country have every rightt to experience the truth. I really dont think that the level of respect has ever fallen to this levels in any govt in the past.
They kill.. they attack.. they abduct… they torture.. nothing seem to end because the police functions are conducted by underhand (NATION TERRORITST) Gotabaya.

        Sam,
At the same time I hope you realize how important peace and normalcy was/is to the masses of Sri Lanka to continue supporting this regime. I don’t know where you live, but for Sri Lankan who when to work everyday took a big gamble with their life without knowing whether they will come back home in one piece or not.
May be we might have to wait a generation to see this thought (what you call hallucination) gone from their memory or pray they soon forget the risk they took.

When Rajpal was at the Sunday Times, over estimating his skills,Rajpal wanted to oust Sinha (Lion) Ratnatunga from the editorship. But Sinha because of his relationship with media boss Ranjith Wijewardena, however boring and unchanging, was well established.
Then through Bandula Jayasekera who is now in the SL embassy in Sydney Rajpal came in to the ANCL as editor of the Observer.
Being a mad sort of chap he wrote an article criticizing President Mahinda Rajapakse,s speech to staff of our foreign Ministry. He suggested that MR had criticized our diplomats too harshly. When Rajpal came to work on Monday he had been sacked.
He then went running to various people including the chairman of ANCL Anil Obeysekera to save his job. But MR didnt forgive him. Rajpal was thrown on to the street. Then Rajpal went to work for Sumathipala who is a well known Bookie owner. That newspaper never took off.

After about 3 years MR forgave him as he had no English speaking editors to run the Daily News and brought Rajpal back as editor of the daily News.It is this Rajpal who is now commenting on various political and social events and also other individuals !

The ANCL is run with public money as a government propaganda machine. In countries like India, UK and USA the government has no newspapers doing propaganda for the politicans in power. This bad practice has led to perverting the idea of the media. At the ANCL all kinds of degenerates are running the show for the government

Prior to the outbreak of violence in Aluthgama, I received a number of emails already in circulation from non Buddhist Sri Lankans that were derogative in substance, directed against the Muslim community. The perpetrators were anti Rajapakses minority groups, Columbians in the main, and I view the motives was to provoke the Sinhalese against the Muslim community in order to discredit the government and, to antagonise the Muslim community. Sadly, it has worked to the detriment of the nation as a whole and the Muslims in particular.

      Lal,
If you have got a brain the size of a needle head, can you defend the current regime ?

Is this the first time we the people sense similar behaviours of the govt goons. ?

You and the few would not change your mind even if yours have been raped by Raja goons – that is what we anti Raja dissidents feel today.

If we the people of srilanka are genuine with permanent peace in this island, Raja should be defeated or he should even face with the same fate of the Premadasa.
