Rajapaksas Inc. vs. Maithri-Ranil Combo Or Corruption vs. Yahapalanaya; The Jury Still Out

By Vishwamithra

“To have his path made clear for him is the aspiration of every human being in our beclouded and tempestuous existence.” ~Joseph Conrad

What is the magic that the Rajapaksas have and the Maithri-Ranil Combo does not? What is it that sustains the Rajapaksa campaign of vitriol, lies, exaggerations and hallucinations? What makes the masses not dispel the idea of a Rajapaksa comeback? What makes them blindly cling on to a fantasy of a corrupt regime but more attractive in terms of deliverables, charisma, projection of surreal circumstances such as ‘Miracle in Asia’ and ‘humanitarian operation’. In short, what makes the Rajapaksas click in an uncertain political dynamics that constantly demands progress?

These are not easy questions to answer. Pundits have attempted to analyze and deduce. They have tried many times to dissect the issues and the attempts made by the Rajapaksas to resolve these nagging national issues. In some cases the Rajapaksas have succeeded, while in others, they failed. But when they failed they did not get bogged down in an unworthy state of stagnancy. They either swept those issues under the carpet or simply ignored them and got back to the job that they are most capable of doing- hoodwinking the masses. They resumed their terrible habit of corruption and nepotism. The most stark and vivid difference between the Rajapaksas and Maithri-Ranil Combo is that the Rajapaksas have fine-tuned the art of deception. Both Chanakya and Sun Tzu, two great intellectuals of the ancient world would be surprised by the way and fashion in which the Rajapaksa Inc. navigated the ship of State during and after the Northern War in Sri Lanka.

It is beyond dispute that the Rajapaksas fittingly earned full credit for bringing the war to a successful end. While three of his predecessors failed to achieve this task, Mahinda Rajapaksa managed to end it in a most dramatic fashion. The very optics of the war-victory was breathtaking; the killing of Prabhakaran who was a scourge to all Sinhalese-Buddhists and display of this mass-killer’s dead body generated a sigh of relief on the one hand and a satisfying sense of revenge on the other. Then Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of the country alighting from his aircraft and worshipping the soil of his motherland created a semi-durable impression in the minds of all citizens of the country barring Northern Tamils. The victory rallies that followed kept that impression afresh at least in the minds of Sinhalese-Buddhists. Backed by a superb team of advertising and public relations experts, Rajapaksa Inc. became a success story overnight. From the old women who worshipped Buddha morning, noon and night living in a humble abode in a country hamlet to a three-wheel driver in the busy suburbs and super-rich elite professionals in Colombo, applauded the Rajapaksa Inc.-led government.

The pervasive sense of patriotism that engulfed the country consumed each and every non-Tamil citizen in the country and it was justifiable in the context of untold misery and disruption to civil life the Northern war brought about in the land. There was no nuanced rendition of the message. It was direct, simple and hard-hitting. If you are not with the government, you are taken as an adversary not of the government but of the country and its inhabitants that yearned for peace and stability. That is the end result of this euphoria that manifested itself in the wake of the cessation of violence in the North.

But a number of civil organizations led by some local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and University academics went thus far and no further. It was mainly due to the following factors that played a decisive role in transforming an assenting mind into a collective adverse:

  1. Taking General Sarath Fonseka into custody
  2. Impeaching Shirani Bandaranayake, the Chief Justice at the time
  3. Passage of the Eighteenth (18th) Amendment
  4. Making a mockery of the judiciary and the Supreme Court
  5. Continuing cavalcade of corruption

A seemingly stable and solid government that enjoyed a two-third’s majority in the House of Parliament became a mere tool in the hands of a very few; a coterie of family members and their immediate cohorts, whose vested interests were the same, became so powerful; substantial manifestations of cruel and corrupt deeds were taken for granted as rational and logical characteristics of a democratically elected government. The story of corrupt practices of that regime has been catalogued by some journalists, legal luminaries and social scientists. It’s not my intention to revisit those ugly and obscene episodes. The very memories of those distasteful allegations could be defilement to mind and deflation to spirit. Yet what became a surprise victory for Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Elections in 2015, February was a surprise only to Rajapaksa Inc. For the rest of the country, it was a not only a drama playing its final Act, but more a realization of a what was considered a mere fantasy. The way the Rajapaksas and their immediate support cast played the country out in all financial dealings was being condoned and sometimes encouraged and bolstered. But it had a limit.

That is all history. What confronts the country and its present ruling partnership today is entirely different but in no way novel, although they attempt to portray as one. Yahapalanaya is only a new word introduced by the Manifesto of the UNP-SLFP, especially in line with the modern Western liberal thinking. Advanced democracies such as Western Europe and some countries in Asia like Singapore and Japan can boast of a very educated electorate which is sensitized to Freedom of the Press and Freedom of Information. But Sri Lanka whose electorate has been sensitized to a culture of gross corruption and unhinged nepotism could hardly relate to genuine and tangible Freedom of the Press and Freedom of Information. The sheer subservient culture of our people has gripped them in a stagnant and muted outlook as far as their relationships to the sophisticated machineries of governance is concerned. It has made them serfs of a system which their past generations had been used to and had no quarrel with. Governed by Kings and Queens in all of their history, Sri Lankans are inherently attracted to strong men and women.

A cursory glance into our post-Independence history too shows the same propensity. D S Senanayake, Sir John Kotelawala, J R Jayewardene, Sirimavo and Chandrika Bandaranaike, R Premadasa and Mahinda Rajapaksa are excellent examples. In modern times our electorate responded the same way our ancestors did during the various Monarchies in our history. Coalition governments are inherently weak in that the very process of governance becomes a practice of constant adjustments in relation to power-sharing and distribution and delegation of resources. The Rajapaksa Inc., in its rule of nine plus years, managed to drive the country further into corruption. Its practice of nepotism became accepted as norm for there were so-called elites who never hesitated to oil the right palm of the right clan member. It could be a sibling, son, brother-in-law or nephew or niece, it never stopped to surprise itself; by prolonging a ludicrous circus of nepotism and corruption, they all danced to the tune of the Rajapaksa Inc. it did not seem to have dawned on them that the country at large was getting close to a breaking point, and when it broke, the country’s faith in the new ‘Yahapalanaya’ grew and sadly those who were elected to power now seem to have forgotten that the process which was replaced was rotten from head to toe and was comprehensively rejected by an electorate treading a dangerous line of desperation.

It is this electorate that the present rulers seem to have forgotten. Sri Lanka cannot enthrone a leader exclusively from amongst Sinhalese Buddhists. A candidate who is tipped to receive a substantial majority of Tamil and Muslim votes does not need a majority of Sinhalese Buddhist votes. That constant changed only n 2009. That is because of the war-victory and Rajapaksa Inc. managed quite rightly so, to harness an overwhelming majority of Sinhalese Buddhists plus a fair amount of Muslim support. But in 2015 the story was different. Thanks mainly to the machinations of the BBS (Bodu Bala Sena) and other anti-Muslim advocacies, politically engineered by the siblings of Mahinda Rajapaksa, Muslims were alienated from the SLFP. In 2009, the Rajapaksa Inc. defeated Sarath Fonseka, the military leader who commanded the forces at the time of war against Tamil terrorists/militants.

Maithri-Ranil Combo that was elected in successive elections, Presidential and Parliamentary, has already wasted two and half years. The sense of uncertainty, the sense of weakness that is being felt by a great majority of those who voted for them is increasingly gaining a foothold; with that, the patience and faith is diminishing at an alarming rate. It is still not too late for the current administration to show some moral and ethical strength. It is never late for adjustments. If you try you give yourself a chance. If you don’t, you deprive yourself of that precious chance.

    1) Charisma
    2) The ability to confront situations and get things done and deal with consequences later
    3) Not constantly worrying about pleasing the West

Yahapalanaya is a sleepy, middle aged man, awakened from slumber and just wants the day to be over and is willing to make a deal with anyone just as long as he can go back to sleep

Mahinda Chinthanaya grabbed life by the short and curly’s and shook it !

      It’s pretty simple.

‘Life has not been devised by morality: it wants deception, it lives on deception.’ — Friedricho Nietzschellini
Deception is the name of the game. Rajapaksas Inc does it miles better than Maithri-Ranil Combo. Everyone does it, but the Inc is head and shoulders above anyone else; great finesse. The best Lanka has ever seen.
Next comes the “deceptability” of the “audience” …….. the Lankans come a close second to the Yanks.
And we live till the day we die believing that some one gonna come and save ……………… The story of life! …………. So, what else is new?

yes it is fun when we see ultra idiots like you. His talent is out there for everyone to see.
He was deceived by Prabhakran and Mahinda both…..If you have at least half of a human brain read what this fellow did during his rule.

The most stupid person ever in the world to hold a PM post, now that is some deception of a higher degree. What has this fool ever done in his 40 years of political life except singing a disastrous CFA?

MR during his period gave results…he ended terrorism and economic development…Are these deceptions idiot?

True ………….. 18 billion results! And if he didn’t get kicked out, a few more billion results. Yeah, Mahinda is the greatest man that ever walked the face of the earth. He is billion times better than anyone else. So, what are we arguing about?

Buddy, at last we agree on something!

Now, that should put a sime on your face. That’s what I call fun! :))))

We have governments who loot the money given to the country to uplift the quality of life of our people…

Are we paying taxes for criminal politicians to rob!?

Instead of going after the Rajapaksas criminals who stole our money this government just keeps taxing us more and more what a joke.

This is how they fool us.

New drama is Maithripala Sirisena wants control of the FCID for 3 months!!
Is he going to actually go after these criminals or help protect them!!?

If it’s another election stunt don’t expect votes till we see real action.

If the Maithripala Ranil Government is not going to take action against the Rajapaksas criminals no point continuing to vote for them. Voting for someone else next time. Even a bunch of people from the business community who get together and start a party.

It’s Time the corporate world took over this country and run it like a company if we are to sort out this crisis…

And no not a fake businessman like Donald Trump who is a Mafia pawn.

How could such a bunch of uneducated uncultured filth have been allowed to steal the election by paying huge $million dollar bribe to enemy tigers in order to stop Tamil vote for Ranil?
Where else in Asia could this happen and the filth still free?

    • 4
      5

Nimal, if Rajapaksa was collecting money for that bribe I too would have contributed with all my might. If Tamils COLLECTIVELY vote for Ranil that is the very reason why the Sinhalese should cast their votes in the opposite direction. If the Muslims COLLECTIVELY vote for one partry that is enough reason for the Sinhalese to look in the opposite direction. If it is free distribution depending on the circumstances (similar to the voting pattern among the Sinhalese) then it is altogether a different matter. ——-

Soma, The LTTE used violence to prevent Tamils from voting for Ranil. They had brains to not support their dictator Prabhakaran or Mahinda Rajapaksa but were threatened with violence and murdered if they didn’t do as they were told.

That is what he paid the LTTE to do.

Not that they happily said we will vote as you tell us. They had their freedom of choice robbed from them.

          1

Silva, when you say “freedom to vote for Ranil” that is no FREEDOM. You should say freedom to vote for any party they wish. Read my emphasis on COLLECTIVELY voting. That amounts to racial segregation. Undue cohesion is apparent here.—‘–

Soma, freedom to vote for whom ever they liked. That would still have been 70% to Ranil not to the Dictator Mahinda. They had enough of the Dictator Prabhakaran so they would not have supported another Dictator…

            • 1
              1

Silva, if the Tamils chose Ranil at that stage both the Sinhalese and the Tamils would still be living under Prabakan’s terror and the war would have consumed half the country by now. This bribe is the only unethical bribe that saved a nation. Always
Remember that prabakaran threw away the VP-RW pact which literary handed over the entire Nort and East to him but decided go for the Vadukkodai objective. ——

There is no such thing as “vs”, MR and MS both are in the same team playing against the people, more specifically the hardworking and taxpaying kind.

This is what MS said nine months ago:
“The President vowed that the government led by himself and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will definitely save the country from the present economic crisis which was caused due to the loans obtained by the previous government.”

“He assured that no foreign power in the world will be allowed to control or manage the government and that it will face the international community without a shred of fear. “

“The President warned politicians who are attempting to form a new party in order to topple the government that the day such a party is created, all the information kept as secrets so far will be put out and revealed to the people. “

Where are we on these promises?
Has the countries debt level gone up or down?
Previously only China was calling the shots now China and India both are calling the shots.

If he made this same warning in a developed country and not a kangaroo state be would have had to answer under oath and might have even been impeached for obstruction of justice and collusion.

What we see is the curse by the god above, for all the crimes committed by the governments after the independence. We all were much better off then but now ?..! Every thing collapsed since the country’s name changed to Sri Lanaka. Nothing good happened, but all bad things after that fateful day !We were better off under British rule, independence brought only chaos for us but India is thriving. Whose fault is it ?
India has so many races, so many states, still they progress. They have no Sinhala only or Tamil only stuff.
They do not alienate anyone living in the nation, but consider every one as an Indian. Things are totally different in silly SL. They want to chase or kill every one except the Sinhala people. Sinhala people are a mixed race and if they cannot live with others, it’s a pity that they have to face the consequences.
No country can progress if they fight and kill other communities who are in the minority.
Religion is nothing, but it’s all used purposely for political reasons. Who is really observing Buddhism in Lanka ? No one, really ! All the Buddhists are just fake. Did any one attained or will attain Nirvana or Nibbana so far ? Either they should do it or leave it, without prostituting a noble religion of Indian origin.
India gave many original religions and Buddhism & Hinduism are the most prominent ones. Indians spread that Buddhism in many Asian countries but Sri Lankan claim of safeguarding it sounds so foolish.
Thai Buddhism is sexism, Mayanmar Buddhism is violence, SL Buddhism is racism & violence…no Buddhism is actively doing anything good for the Buddhists other than crime. Our country should become a secular nation for the survival of all religions. We do not need a Dr Wijedasa Rajapakshe to save the Buddhist religion. If the religion is good, it will save itself and look after it. You don’t need a minister or any unprincipled monks to look after it. Look at Islam or Hinduism..there is no one to look after but they are all doing well.

The Jury need not waster their time, this government is the twin of Rajapakse but only difference is that it pretends to be English speaking and sophisticated.Only sophistcation we see is Ranil’s non-stop globe trotting

Ranil is the most tragic and disastrous politician we have had since independence. Because he has been successful in keeping an iron grip on the UNP leadership we have not been able to evolve or find good leaders. When ever Ranil is challenged by a credible leader he loses. Remember how Gamini Dissanayake, who had left the party (UNP)came back and defeated Ranil in the party.

Because Ranil so unpopular and even hated both Chandrika and Mahinda were able to flourish, winning two presidential terms each. Now Ranil is so unacceptable he has to make the UNP go behind people like Sarath Fonseka and Maithripala to come into power even as a secondary partner.

Ranil’s pose seems to be because he in from Royal college and can manage in english and can talk like he is an expert he should be the leader. This is 19 century thinking. Ranil argues that with the dwindling UNP block vote and minority votes he should win. That is all he can say.

Whenever Ranil comes into power the government is an utter flop and nothing happens. No body can do anything because the know all will veto and new idea.Even the so called corruption investigations have ended up as a joke.

We have leaders like MR doing well only because RW is so bad.

Besides, how can this hypocrite talk of good governance after the Bond fiasco. In any other country after such a thing and particularly after his naked attempts to stifle the investigation he would be in jail for interfering with law and order and abuse of power. Under what system can a man implicated in a big scam appoint his own committee ( 3 UNP lawyers)to investigate the crime ?

The biggest corruption scandal, bond scandal happened under ‘yahapalana’
    No elections
The local council elections are overdue of 2 years, with the public facing severe problems from Dengue and garbage issue. All that could have been solved if we had local councils operating…And this moron calls this failed state of the country as ‘yahapalanaya’

Rajapksa is a goner……….That is what Bodhi Sira told the Yahaplna Cabinet yesterday….. Bodhi Sira is going to take over Dr Ranil’s UNP Police, his F*****CID and Wijedasa’s AG Department….. And Bodhi Sira promised to finish off the Rajpaksas in Three Months ……. Now , Ranil Sira Combo Vs Mahasanga Trio will be the Battle of the Century………..Dr Ranil is Anglican by birth… So he has no obligations to Mahasanga ……But Sira in contrast has to practice Bodhi Pooja at least until the next Election…………. The reason for Mahasanga to Meet the Combo, is Dr Ranil’s underhand deal to partition the Nation and the Country……..Mahanayakas pointed out clearly that the Yahapalana Coalition didn’t mention about dividing the Nation before the Election…… Mahasanga got a valid point there too………..Dr Ranil’s new Constitution is as tight as a virgin ass , according to the Vellala Kid Abraham who is the big Legal Eagle in the TNA…….This is what the Kid told the English Media in response to his boss Sampathar agreeing with Dr Ranil to drop Federal and accept EeKeeya ..Quote ” Although not Federal by name, it has more than what a Federal State needs…..Central Government can not interfere with the NPC Council Ministers after the new Constitution kicks in… The central Government can not take back any of the functions of the the NPC ever, unless the TNA Members and Ministers in the NPC unanimously ask them to do so…. Thirdly the legal framework to join the East with the North will be there “… ……………..There you go ……….

Not all advanced western nations have educated populations. Those who voted for Trump were mostly uneducated, but also included Educated and almost all were WHITES angry at 8 years of Obamastan. Now there is Trumpistan. White Christian Evangelicals want to take control and make the US a Christian nation with Christian values only. Muslims no place; aetheists, buddhists, hindus can all integrate or shut the hell up. Pence the VP is an open Christian Conservative who wants Christianity to be the official faith of the USA. It is happening.

When USA becomes an openly Christian White nation none of the Western funded NGO buggers will shout. Will you shout? No probably not because you write only about SL. Christian worship will be in schools in the USA soon. Abortion will be banned completely as per Christian fanaticism. Gay right out of the window. So why not make SL a predominantly buddhist nation at least give prominence of place to Buddhism? Malaysia has only 61% Muslim/malay population but has an official religion. None of those muslim buggers in SL who shout here on CT have a problem with that. They do not have a problem with Maldives either; but only with Sri Lanka why?

“When USA becomes an openly Christian White nation none of the Western funded NGO buggers will shout.”
LOL: Take your head out of the load of crap served in the name of Buddhism and smell the roses.
This is never going to happen as USA is not a kangaroo state and the constitution is supreme. I will agree that Trump is an idiot but his approval rating is in the lower 30% and going down.
“Christian worship will be in schools in the USA soon.”
I don’t see any problem provided that others of a different faith are not discriminated and if they chose they could have schools that follow their faith. This is how it was in Sri Lanka in the good old days and the children from Catholic schools were better disciplined before the Govt took over and force fed kids of politicians and sarong jonnies of different faith particularly Buddhists into Catholic schools.
Why Buddhism is not the solution for countries: Here are the top five.
Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Bhutan, Sri Lanka.
All five countries are corrupt, economically bankrupt, prostitution is rampant. Can you name anything good?

Mmm. yes, we all know how children in christian education systems, especially catholic, were ‘educated’.. so well that the Church is even today apologizing for it and paying restitution

Did you enjoy the Good Old Days in the same way, hmmm ? As Teacher or Priest ?

        • 1
          0

The church is apologizing and paying restitution for the crimes of a few. That shows that as an establishment they have accepted responsibility. When or will the Buddhist temple ever take responsibility or the state hold them accountable. The only Monk that got jail time for sexual abuse was in the US.

        • 1
          0

As your inference is to Church and Christian society in the west I thought of telling you what’s happening in the Buddhist majority country.

“Sexual abuse of boys in Bhutan and rape of girls by monks, a ‘predictable progression”: Not only are these boys sexually abused but there is a scandalous level of sexually transmitted diseases in these monasteries passed on to these young boys including HIV: One can see the typical denial of the head monks, who ‘never heard about it” Denial and Lying go hand in hand. “

          Maalumiris chew on this:

“A number of Buddhist monks and teachers in the Netherlands have been sexually abusing students for decades. Victims include both men and women, some of them minors. Victims are finally coming forward to tell their story.

Over the past few months broadcaster NOS, in conjunction with Buddhism scholar Rob Hogendoorn, has been speaking to some of these victims. Among these people are three men who were abused by a Thai monk. This monk arrived in the Netherlands in the 70’s and worked in a temple in Waalwijk. He sexually abused young men for at least 20 years. Earlier this month a number of this Mettavihari’s, who died in 2007, followers decided to talk about the years of “repeated inappropriate behavior” after decades of keeping silent. According to them, the reason they are coming forward now is that their own investigation has shown that the abuse was even larger than they thought.

NOS also found two other major scandals of Buddhist teacher abusing their position of power with students. In both cases victims turned to the police, but no charges were ever filed.

In a Buddhist center in Middelburg “Kelsang Chopel”, the Austrian Gerhard Mattioli, harassed and sexually abused female students in the period between 2001 and 2008. In the minutes of a meeting of the Buddhist Union Netherlands, the then president talks of a “self proclaimed lama”, or teacher, who “wreaked havoc in a horrible way”, according to NOS. The BUN sent people to speak with the victims, but no further publicity was given to the case.

At the end of 2001 Dhammawiranatha, Pierre Krul from The Hague, stepped down as monk at a monastery in Makinga, Friesland, after being confronted with the many sexual relationships he participated in with women. The victims turned to the BUN. “The stories were truly staggering, brainwashing, instigation, sexual relationships with women, but also with very young, underage girls.” a board member said to NOS. According to NOS, many of these women were mentally dependent.”

Credit must go to MR for listening and interpreting the background noise. Remember in November/December 2014 he went round saying “A known devil is better than an unknown devil”?
He assessed that corruption, nepotism, culture of impunity is there for good. The United National Front for Good Governance (UNFGG) will be a fizzer. Horse trading will be back with a vengeance. Above all he concluded that Lankan politics will revolve around “Us and Them” and that language/religion divide will remain the political hard currency.
Most MPs have forgotten what UNFGG stood for! The present GoSL wanted to keep the cakemix of corruption, nepotism, culture of impunity and eat it too.
The first commenter maalumiris hit the nail in the head with “Yahapalanaya is a sleepy, middle aged man, awakened from slumber and just wants the day to be over and is willing to make a deal with anyone just as long as he can go back to sleep”

I find the almost passing reference to numbers the most interesting. In fact yes, the next candidate does not need a majority of Sinhalese votes to win the Presidency. All he or she needs is about 40% of the Sinhalese vote and almost 95% Tamil, Indian Tamil and Moor votes and he/she is through. If you noticed the data in 2005, RW was ahead after Estate Tamil votes were counted and ahead by a significant margin. He lost because the terrorist Tamil Tigers blocked the NE Tamils from voting.(deal with MR?)

I mention numbers because this is how Obama won. He NEVER got a majority of White votes even in the phenomenonal Obama-magical 2008. His overall White voter percentage was 43% while McCain won 55% of the White votes; in 2012 his share of White voters went down to 39% and Romney had 59% of the white votes. By 2016 White middle class, and white working class was sick and tired of Obama and divisive ethno politics, black lives matter and many other issues; evangelical christians came out in drove for a three times married adulterer who they saw as a their Christian White Messiah. Go figure that out.

My point? Sinhalese do not control who becomes President in a diverse electorate. Parliament is a different thing. So keeping the executive presidency is a huge advantage because RW will win hands down next time if he is the candidate. Not endorsing anyone here; just mentioning numbers.

This is not Maldives where the constitution says only a Sunni Muslim can be President and no non-muslim can ever hold office and a buddhist is not even allowed to worship in freedom.

This is multi-ethnic Sri Lanka; warts and all still far ahead of backward nations where they do not allow other faiths to flourish and share. Obama’s white share of votes was down in the 20% range in racist 100% red Southern States of the Confederacy.

Trump won white voters by a margin almost identical to that of Mitt Romney, who lost the popular vote to Barack Obama in 2012. In 2016 Trump LOST the popular vote and is still screaming and whining about voter fraud because his small penised thin skinned bully ego cannot handle it. Trump will win in 2020 as well. Democrats have no message. Nancy Pelosi is a fraud liberal pro Gay congresswoman from San Francisco area. People hate outside the beltway and in rural America. Trump resonates with his base. Democrats will keep losing State, Local and other elections like how the UNP kept losing and RW clung to power like Nancy Pelosi. But numbers favour him in Sri Lanka . My prediction? He will win the Presidency. He must not do away with Executive Presidency. Maithripala is a stopgap.

. My prediction? Ranil W will win the Presidency. He must not do away with Executive Presidency. Maithripala is a stopgap useless way station. Once Ranil wins, we can rule SL like how Lee Kuan Yew ruled Singapore; with an iron fist; jail opponents and crack down hard; make false accusations and jail people. USA will be ok with it as long as they get a base. They are wooing RW because they might lose their Diego Garcia base in Chagos Archipelago. They also want SL to go against China. India supports that too. My prediction? RW is our next President. He only needs about 39% of Sinhala votes. He gets almost 100% of T, Indian T and M votes.

    An excellent analysis.

Indeed the present lot have not only wasted two and half years but showed it had no teeth or backbone to act. The patience and faith of those who voted them in is fast diminishing. Given the socio- economic complexities the country faces, SL has to return to a quagmire from which it cannot escape. The country has not learnt what it takes to be a modern, progressive democratic state. The larger percentage havent a clue, and the government is doing nothing to educate.
