Ranil Wickremesinghe, stating that the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Central Bank bond issues had revealed that Rs 4 trillion had been auctioned through bond issues between 2008 and 2015, said that he is awaiting investigation from the media on the related losses. He said that Rs 10,000 billion would have to be paid by the Government over the next 25 years.
Wickremesinghe made these observations while addressing a meeting of United National Party (UNP) candidates for the forthcoming local government elections at Campbell Park, Borella today (January 7).
The UNP leader, while alluding to ‘various ideas published in the media’ regarding the Central Bank bond scam post-2015, did not acknowledge any wrongdoing by party loyalists and personal friends who have been named and shamed in the CoI report.
Wickremesinghe appointed the former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, a personal friend, as an advisor after the President choose not to extend his term considering the details of the bond scam that had come to light by that time. He also appointed former Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake to head a development programme after the latter resigned in the wake of revelations that the main beneficiary of the bond scam, Arjun Aloysius who is also the son-in-law of Mahendran, had gifted him a plush penthouse.

Accountability is one of the cornerstones of good governance. Yet Yahapalana lot seem to have never heard the word.
If the President and the PM aspired to score from the Bond Report, they were mistaken.
The same goes with the JO. People now very well know that all these politicians are playing a game to hoodwink the masses and that they are not genuine in what they say. The Bond Report is an orphan. Everybody shows concern but nobody wants to take the responsibility. I don’t think this is what people expected.

People should seriously think about using the upcoming LG election to REJECT politicians, no matter which party.

They even took part in the Constitutional Assembly (minus NFF) assisting Ranil to bring the Federal Constitution. Their betrayal is much more than JVP’s and SLFP’s. JO didn’t even vote against the recent Act on the sale of Hambantotata Port. They even let Ranil to pass OMP. Therefore, JO should be considered as an integral part of Ranil’s regime. What is more annoying is without fulfilling their responsibility in the Parliament by voting against Ranil, they make barrage of criticism outside which is of no use.
Politicians in SLFP, UNP, SLPP (JO), JVP all should be rejected. It is time voters show politicians that they have raised the bar to new heights for them. We should not give them easy time.

President Maithripala Sirisena’s office has put out several versions of his bond commission statement in an apparent attempt to soften the blow to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and his party.
The first English translation of the President’s Sinhala statement was reasonably close to the original, but a subsequent version — Bond Report V3 final.docx — took the sting out.
It removed all references to Wickremesinghe and the then finance minister Ravi Karunanayake.
The President’s website carried the first translation and later swapped it with the new version which was once again amended bringing back references to Ravi Karunanayake but without including Wickremesinghe’s name.
Faulting the Prime Minister for not taking action against the then Central Bank governor Arjuna Mahendran and also blindly believing in him was removed from the final version published on the president’s official website.
The deleted para read: “The Commission is of the opinion that the Prime Minister made his statement in Parliament regarding the appointment of Mr Mahendran believing in the facts presented by Mr. Mahendran and Mr.Samarasiri, especially the promises made by Mr Mahendran. The Report also says that the Prime Minister should not have done that.”
Another crucial paragraph that was initially deleted and later restored was: “The Commission report refers to the allegation against former Finance Minister Mr Ravi Karunanayake regarding the payment of rent for the penthouse apartment belongs (sic) to the Aloysius Family and their Walter and Rowe (sic) Company and stated that Mr Karunanayake was responsible for that and recommended that the government should take necessary action against Mr. Ravi Karunanayake under the section of bribery and corruption and further legal action under the penal codes for giving false evidence at the Commission.” (Courtesy The Island)

Why is the President not following its recommendations and why is he allowing Ranil to use delaying tactics aimed at allowing the culprits to escape. This govt is in power for 3 years and did nothing about alleged misdeeds of the previous govt. When this govt was caught robbing the people, their excuse is “we robbed because our predecessors robbed”!! These buggers have such a thick skin. They should be skinned.

There are some questions has to be asked and answered, in the light of that a wide opinion exist there that this PCoI is only coy and only an election stunt. There many corruptions are sighted as New King and Ranil are connected. Instead of Middle ground authors analyzing in balanced manner, these all are brought out by UNP and SLFP acolytes. People are skeptical about these revelations. Beyond that, even after it is said that Ranil yet to get the copy of this statement copy, there are suggestion that this stunt is only Ranil-New King Joint drama. The main reason is that neither of them so far had really brought out any serious accusation on Chitanta Government, but the unity government is accusing only unity government within. Unlike CT trying to head it, Ranil has not accused the Chitanta government directly any wrongdoing. His 10 trillion number is not described as any fraud committed amount, but a loan amount need to be paid by his Yahapalanaya government but was borrowed by the Chitanta government. The political parties come and go to power. Governments are always there. So it is always, without any missing, incoming governments pay the outgoing government’s debts. (Practically all governments, other than very few, engaged into more and more debts and in many circumstances that more loans are no indication of any alarming situation). So here what Ranil saying is, only pulling wool on Modayas eye to make them think that 10 trillion fraud. While he is tricking the mass to go wild on that, he is asking the media, his arch enemies, to explain that number. What a comedy is that!
The easy to predict matter at this time seems to be only Mahendran will be punished for the corruption of the Chitanta and Yahapalanaya government.

Ravi is at odd as he took a part in the Russian Ship scam revelations. But difficult is, will Ranil be impeached, Old King is crowned as PM, Old Royals is given the control of the SLFP. One thing one can say is, if New King loses in 2020, SLFP will go back to Old Royals, even if they refuse to accept. Old Royals knew that and that is the reason they are not committing for GLP’s “Slap Party”. Old Royals are ready to show patience, wait for the opportunity for them to overrun all the enemies in the SLFP and take it over finally. Especially Old King, as he cannot be the EP until the 21st amendment is enacted, he is not interested to plunge into 2020 election mood. They are very little interested in LGE, though people are made to believe that they demanded for the election and actively canvassing for “Slap Party”. It is not just Old King does not want the GLP’s Slap, he even block his family members take active role in that.
Here is a difficult entanglement exist. UNP is not able to function alone. So it cannot kick SLFP out. SLFP can go alone, because not just Old Royals, there are even other candidates, who can stand as EPs for them. But New King cannot win any election whether it is LG or EP or parliament. It is the same situation, whether he is with UNP or with Joint Comedy Club, or even if he surrenders his SLFP leadership to Old Royals. His only hope is change the constitution, abolish EP take the alms UNP ready put as “continuing on the seat until 2025”. The best option for him is, he came alone, so care him alone and goes alone. Old Royals cannot go with GLP’s “Slap Party” because they always aims for the whole family for generations to come, so it is their worst nightmare the SLFP get split and it end up as Neither SLFP nor “Slap Party” can win any election in the future. When SLFP – UNP went for unity government, Old King created new Duo as Yahapalanaya – Joint Comedy Club. From there he undertook spreading anti-minority feeling to win the coming election. But the in-between LGE is teaching him a new lesson. I.e Splitting the SLFP is death blow to his “Entire Family for Generations to Come” dream. Adding to further confusion, the CB bond scam has been upgraded from fish net entanglement to Idiyappa entanglement. Old King’s best hope was devolution and Ekkya Rajiya. He basically had left the CB issue between SLFP and UNP, as he did not wanted PT go to any court and start to talk like Pillaiyan. But New King, for all astonishment, went through the back door subtly grabbed it secretly spraying it as anti-Tamil spray. This is causing a discomfort to Ranil because his name is being associated with Tamils by his partner, who agreed with to him bring a constitutional change without blaming each other being on the side of the Tamil. Now Ranil is not sure how proceed for this new turn. Old Royal are forced into two mind, that is whether to grab CB Bond Bomb and blow it hard or go back to the silenced constitutional change and blaming UNP-SLFP duo as dividing the country.

Take a chap like me. Why did I vote for these people? To make the state machinery clean, at least to the point of saying safely that there is good governance or now branded as a trade name “Yahapalanaya”. Within a few days this rotten scam was hatched and finally the EPF funds of the people are affected. Never in my wildest dream did I think that these guys would perform such a massive racket in a very short time and therefore I feel that my vote was obtained through deceit. I voted for a change and for this Ranil fellow to say that in the past also some crooked things were done which needs to be gone into is absolutely no defense for the dirty thing done. He knew all the misdeeds of the previous rotters but he did nothing to book them. Our expectation, firstly, is for a clean government where the rot is not tolerated at all (0 tolerance) and secondly to put behind bars all the rogues of the past. What has happened is totally the opposite. If there was a good democratic framework where sovereignty of the country is truly in the hands of the people the we the people should be able to administer the medicine that they themselves prescribed, namely, “the maduwaligaya and the Kaduwa”.

Saro, because Rajapaksha’s crimes were unproven and Ranil was unable to make his complaints and charges stick, whereas Ranil and cohorts’ crimes were proven at the commission. Now it is up to the President and law enforcing agencies to implement the recommendations. So chronologically Ranil should face the courts first.

Besides Ranil, the losses from 2008-2015 were only losses because you took over government controls in 2015. Otherwise the 4-trillion auctioned off during those years would have come to fruition by now and come back to the country in leaps and bounds to a possible 10-trillion!
