Ranil Does A Gandhi

By Shyamon Jayasinghe –

Shyamon Jayasinghe

Strange things sometimes happen with canny drama. It was only two days ago- last Wednesday evening (20th November)-that I played the DVD of the Gandhi movie to educate my young grandson.

Just as India was about to get independence after the long Gandhi-led struggle Ali Jinnah, one of the leaders of the national struggle, expressed his decision to go for a separate Pakistan explaining that “Muslims cannot have the British removed in order to be ruled by Hindus.”  Throughout the campaign for Indian independence the Muslim-Hindu mutual tension had been running like a hot high voltage wire in the sky. Jinnah’s statement broke Gandhi’s heart. Gandhi went up to Jinnah and assured the latter that he could be the first Prime Minister of India. This incident was cinematically represented as sheer statesmanship in the larger interests of India. In the eyes of viewers the stature of Gandhi soared high and high.

Ranil Wickremesinghe

Ranil Wickremesinghe

The dramatic happenings today in Sri Lanka seemed to me to resonate somewhat with the above scenario. The United National Party Working Committee, the single biggest party in the country, met to decide on a ‘common candidate.’ The party is just out of its remarkable performance at Uva and is consolidating itself in the country, having united dissident factions. Ranil Wickremesinghe, who had valiantly held the party together through unbelievably turbulent years of Rajapaksa dominance and manipulation, was developing considerable self-confidence as a leader. Yet, Ranil is someone with a sharp sense of strategy. He thinks far ahead. What does he do? He goes up to Maitripala Sirisena, the SLFP General Secretary, and offers him the position of common candidate thereby putting his own self- interests aside.  He knows the country’s interests come first and that the abolition of the vicious Presidential Executive system is a sine qua non if Sri Lanka is to move forward. It is not possible to  engage in any sane politics without bringing down the system. A faulty political system can ruin its players-whoever they may be and whatever background they may come from. Wider social situations born of political arrangments often make evil of good men and women. The Executive Presidential system must go and the parliamentary election system must go. We have seen how under the current incumbent the twin systems have been dangerously toxic to the body politic and how it seriously degraded the dignity of citizens. The cry for its eradication was been raised across the island.

Wickremesinghe’s move would ensure the defeat of the regime whereas had he gone it alone with his party that task would have been compromised badly paving the way for a “third term of madness”. Only a man with a vison, and a sense of honesty would do a thing like this. Maitripala, while addressing via Sirasa TV rightfully praised the UNP Leader. Maitripala has been an honest guy among a pack of rogues.

I stand vindicated in having thought that Ranil Wickremesinghe has been the most underrated political leader in Sri Lanka. In times of national crisis leaders must follow this example. The flag of hope now waves for Sri Lanka.

There is a process by which you deal with your enemy. According to Kautilya the process consist of four stages Sama, Dhana, Peda and Dhanda.

In this instant Peda has worked a little bit before Gota opt for Dhanda.

        FYI

        Sama – Conciliation

        Dhana – Offering gifts

        Peda – Sowing dissension

        Danda – punishment

MR played this game for a long time now his opponents are trying the same old method.

Now you can change your name to “kaput man”

I have lived too long in this world to see. Sama, Petha, Thana and thandam will not work in Sri Lanka unless a change is made in Thandam – to hang them and hang them high to be a lesson. It is too early to say anything now.

Maithripala is going to have to explain why weakening the power of the president is going to help fend off the US, UK, and Norway from meddling into Sri Lanka’s internal affairs, or why he supports the meddling into the internal affairs of Sri Lanka by these countries. The fact that Maithripala is focused on the same issue of reducing presidential power as the USA Ambassador to Sri Lanka cannot go unnoticed, as she and her staff had been searching hard for someone within the Sri Lankan government to implement the USA agenda in Sri Lanka before she left her post last summer. She felt as long as Rajapaksa had strong presidential powers, it was difficult for the US to control Sri Lanka like they do in so many of their client-states around the world.

In fact, you could say that Maithripala is the “USA DREAM CANDIDATE” who fronts as a weakened president with the abolishment of the 18th Amendment while Ranil of the UNP runs the show as prime minister, just like before when Chandrika was president and the US CIA was able to get Ranil to approve of rendition and torture of US terror suspects without Chandrika’s knowledge, and get Ranil to send Norwegian funded radio transmitters to the LTTE Tamil Terrorists, again, without Chandrika’s approval.

Through Ranil as prime minister, the US will seek to roll back Sri Lanka’s relationship with China who is the largest financial backer of Sri Lanka’s economic development and key defender on the UN Security Council, and implement the ‘political solution’ they were trying to implement before the war ended that divides Sri Lanka into small separate parts.

We should also be mindful that the last time Ranil was in power as prime minister from 2001-2004, his coalition government was one of the most corrupt in the world, and this rampant corruption that he inspires is not likely to change if he regains power again.

Maithripala will also have a lot of explaining to do concerning a July 28th, 2014 statement he made to the Daily Mirror that “I HOPE ALL WOMEN ARE REBORN AS MEN IN THEIR NEXT INCARNATION”, as this is plainly sexist and offensive to most women voters.

Maithripala’s sexist point of view is also grossly ignorant for a Buddhist who has presumably read the Soma Sutta in the Samyutta Nikaya where bhikkhuni Ven. Soma chastises Mara (the Evil One) for making a similar sexist remark concerning the capacity of women to attain spiritual liberation. In this sutta, Ven. Soma says:

‘What difference does being a woman make
            When the mind is well-composed,
            When knowledge is proceeding on,
When one rightly sees into Dhamma?”

After Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena announced at a media conference today (21st) that he would come forward as the common candidate of the opposition a deep division has occurred in the state media say reports.

The division has occurred within the National TV, ITN, Lakhanda Radio, SLBC and Lake House. According to media reports journalists and officials who had acted in favour of Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa have been flabbergasted and are unable to carry out their duties.

Most of them seem to be supporting Mr. Maithripala Sirisena and it would come to the open soon say reports.

        False Consciousness

Structuralism and Semiotics of Umberto Eco

During and after elections how people become Collaterally Damaged

Why these elections should be banned, as told by Fidel Castro.

Why C V Wigneswaran should be stopped.

How my strategy worked, (Where? no idea)

Why Pathmanaba was a good comrade (did he or didn’t he fight for Thamil Eelam, who cares as long as I was made minister)

Upali I bet you that you will hear from Dayan the CSKR in under two days. He will be all praise for Ranil for agreeing to be guided by his (Dayan’s)advise to avoid head to head collision with Mara in the Presidential Election. What Dayan actually said was you don’t have what it takes to win an election, just go home. That doesn’t matter as Dayan has no shame; no self-respect.

By praising Ranil, (for taking his advice) he also paves the way to try to worm his way into Ranil’s good books, (such is Dayan’s stupid dream) as inevitably Ranil will take over the leadership of the Country under what is going to be a New Constitution.

Dayan you are a disgrace to your father. Are you his son?

      RE:Ranil Does A Gandhi

Yes, he does a Gandhi. That clearly shows that he is a leader and made a statement by putting behind his EGO, behind the Nation, Bravo!.

On the other hand Mahinda Rajapaksa, MaRa lost the Asoka moment and became Mara, MaRa.

The need of the hour is to beat the MaRas, the Maras.

It is between the Sri Lanka national Congress Vs. the Mara MaRa Devil Gang.

      http://lankaenews.com/news/141

“Now the mask of deceit , with which the Rajapakses masqueraded as so called patriots and true Buddhists has been torn asunder . In the circumstances , the true colors of MaRa, ShiRa, BaRa, GoRa , NaRa , Yora , RoRa and ShaRa stand exposed as obvious JaRas (scoundrels) and outrageous Horas (thieves). The whole country has united at last against this JaRa –Hora governance . If possible let them now try to prove they can still win . People are ready to throw this challenge at them.”

Earnestly awaited common candidate is Maithri preferred and chosen by all to extricate country from despotic family reign

(Lanka-e-News -20.Nov.2014, 11.55PM) Lanka e news first with the news and best with the views ,as always is privileged to break the splendidly pleasant shocking news for the first time officially to the country that it is none other than the SLFP gen. secretary, Maithripala Sirisena had been chosen as the common Presidential candidate of the opposition, in fulfillment of the hopes , aspirations and desires of the entire population of Sri Lanka which was earnestly awaiting the opportunity to throw out lock, stock and barrel ,the lawless moribund Rajapakse family oppressive rule which is keeping the entire abysmally suffering nation trampled ruthlessly . What is even more salutary is, this selection has for the first time received the concurrence of all races of the country including Sinhalese ,Tamils , Muslims , Burghers and Malays as well as all political parties in general which include the UNP, , SLFP, TNA, Muslim Congress, JHU, Democratic Lanka sama samaja party (a majority), Communist party (a majority) and Democratic Front. The blessings of leaders of all religions are also with him.

Interestingly , after several rounds of discussions, the consent was officially given tonight by all political parties, trade unions, civil organizations and religious dignitaries to select Maithripala Sirisena . This was conveyed to Ven Maduluwewa Sobitha Thera the leader of the campaign for a just society who made a huge contribution towards the selection of a right common candidate.

Following discussion among UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe , Karu Jayasuriya and other UNP leaders , it was decided that Maithripala Sirisena shall be appointed as the common opposition candidate with a view to abolish the executive Presidency. This decision was conveyed to Ven. Sobitha Thera this evening. After tomorrow’s(21) working committee meeting of the UNP , this is to be officially announced.

Not only the JVP, JHU, and Gen. Fonseka but even TNA and Muslim Congress have expressed their consent to appoint Maithripala as the common candidate.

It has been the consensus among the present SLFP secretary Maithripala Sirisena ,Vice Presidents , national organizers and a great majority of the SLFP party leaders led by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaranatunge that all must get together with the opposition and extricate the country from the brutal lawless Medamulana village bestial family of land crocodiles shedding crocodile tears on behalf of the people but fattening themselves on the abysmal despair and destitution of the very people after holding the country to ransom despotically abusing official powers . The bottom line is rule of force should be deposed and rule of law enforced ,without which murder and mayhem now raging in the country cannot be stamped out.

Tomorrow(21) , they will be leaving the Rajapakse regime and entering Parliament as SLFP rescue organization independent members .Though Lanka e news wishes not to give out the exact number ,at least a minimum of fifty and a maximum of 100 or more of people’s representatives are hostile to the Rajapakse family rule.

Believe it or not , the two government Ministers who yesterday (19) proposed and seconded Medamulana Percy Mahinda Rajapakse the country’s greatest destroyer , to be the Presidential candidate may not also stand by him .It will be a surprise if the UPFA secretary appears on behalf of the bestial Rajapakses .

No matter what , the SLFP rescue leaders may break away from the Rajapakses on two separate occasions with a view to save the country, while some others , if necessary will remain with the Rajapakses to serve as informants against them .This situation represents the final lap of the victorious journey of true patriots and the intelligentsia of the country who were forging ahead risking their lives during the last two years.

It is an incontrovertible fact that when the country has a national income of Rs. 700 billion , Rs. 300 billion is being robbed (provable with statistics) by a single family , hence should not that family be eliminated?

Shouldn’t the individual who is mollycoddling the terrorist who brought in illegal arms for 30 years and devastated the country , be chased away ?

Shouldn’t the one who killed his own advisor be thrown out?

Should not a profuse liar from whose mouth a lie drops every time he opens the cavernous mouth be eradicated ? This liar during the last two to three days alone had made false promises to four persons on separate occasions that the Prime Minister post will be given to each of them . Some of those who swallowed the sugar coated pill had even thrown parties in celebration .

Now the mask of deceit , with which the Rajapakses masqueraded as so called patriots and true Buddhists has been torn asunder . People are ready to throw this challenge at them.

It is best for every ruler to remember and revere the unassailable truth – one can fool all the people some time

some people all the time , but not all the people all the time.

Except you can’t draw parallels to SF here. SF didn’t defect to the opposition with a boatload of Rajapaksa confidantes. SF didn’t split the SLFP and its vote base like Maithripala could. In short, it’s eminently possible Maithripala could get the SF treatment, but it’s not at all a certainty.

Ranil does not have a backbone and cowardice.
He is not capable to mobilise the public to support him and has taken cover under different names.
He got the leadership of the UNP

The nature of a true leader should be to take timely suitable decisions, even it costs his/her own position. In this instance the timely need is to put an end to the incorrigible MR family rule. RW gave top priority to this need and in this instance played an ‘statesman’ like role. Similarly Rev. Sobitha Thero, who initiated and led the campaign to end the Executive Presidential system and the common candidate thinking, too has stepped-down from promoting his own candidature, so did CBK and Karu J. All of them deserve the peoples’ appreciation for acting in the best interests of the nation.

All Sri Lankans must be grateful to MR and his 10 Judges for giving us a one and only chance to vote wisely this time and that too 2 years ahead. The envisaged 99 yr. lease to a Family Rule as wished and financed by China might be the last test SB voters must face?

Should MR loose, all politicians must be prepared to face house- arrest under Emergency rules, as is a plausible direction Gota might take, to save the family, if they have not arranged to move to China!!

MAHINDA IS NOT GOING TO TAKE THINGS LYING DOWN – IT IS A MATTER OF LIFE

“Ranil does not have a backbone and cowardice”! What does that mean dcn? Although some fools ignorant of facts speak of RANIL disparagingly,it should be said that he is a capable and honest leader with gentlemanly qualities. It is not a secret now that Mahinda won the 1st Presidential Election with the help of the LTTE.(handing over 180 Mn. to Prabhakaran`s man, Emil Kaanthan). Ranil is not a leader who would stoop down to that low level. If we had free and fair elections in Sri Lanka Ranil would never have been a loser. He would never have tarnished the image of SL and ruined our International relations had he been the President.

I have no doubt about the intergrity and gentleman nature of Ranil but as a leader of the most important political party he has failed miserably as leader. Few moments to recall –
      – what did he do in 2003 when two of ministries were taken back by Chandrika when he was
PM and away fro the country . On the day he returned the party supporters and public
showed their support to him overwhelmingly but he failed to seize the opportunity to fight back.
-what did he do when the CJ was removed unceremoniusly?
      -rising cost of living?
-when 18th amendment was being introduced, did he mobilise the public?

I share Mr. Jayasinghe’s delight of the outcome. Surely Mr. Wickramasinghe’s contribution should not be undervalued by any means.

I am puzzled whether it is possible to change the decision taken at LSSP and CP Central Committee meetings to support the incumbent, by way of special motions. Few weeks ago things were different and I am sure if the same committees meet today they might take a different view. It is something for Dr. Jayampathy Wickramaratne and Mr. Lal Wijenayake to think about.

To achieve this outcome there have been many individuals and I am not going to mention all the names as they have been mentioned many a times including in the press conference today. But one name was not mentioned and it was Dr. Jayampathy Wickramaratne.
I think We must take our hats off to him. We might not accept his LSSP politics, but he went with Ven. Sobitha everywhere to explain the necessity of a new constitution and he was the chief architect of the proposed constitution, although it might not be implemented in full. At least that was the beginning. Also, I think Dr. Kumar David is the first one who suggested Ven. Sobitha’s name. I may be wrong here.

I have a question for the legal experts. President went to the Supreme Court to take their opinion about his eligibility contest for the second time. This opinion was never published and the Leader of the House has refused to table this at the parliament as well and it is not public knowledge. Under the circumstances, is it possible for a voter to file a motion (or whatever it is)against the proclamation and against his candidacy when nomination is given.

      Regardng the Supreme Court Opinion:

Why does anyone want to look a gift horse in the mouth?

    (2) support UNHRC to get on with their job on SriLanka
    (3) he does whatever he has to do for all ministers, public servants,.. to declare their assets and provide details on how they got those assets. If there is any irregularities on how they got those assets – Nationalise those assets
    (4) work with TNA and others to resolve the TAMIL issues

Then will commence the second round of splits and that will be worst than the current one for a common candidate.

Your Excellency Xi Jinping, the President of the Peoples Republic of China,

Sir, It is high time you gave some thought to the billions you have dumped in the Kingdom of Sri Lanka. The King is likely to be deposed in January. Please sign a deal with Mr Ranil Wickremasinghe as quickly as possible to secure the outstandings. The most important assistance you can provide Ranil Wickremasinghe is to immediately hand over your dossier on the Rajapakse Kickbacks paid over the last few years.

    No charge for this advice.

    Don’t know about Ghandi.

But Ranil has done a Fonny on Maithree. for sure.

And Ranil is already the winner..

He has secured the Opposition Thavalar position for another full term of Mahinda.

Ranil has shown both Gandhian and Lincoln qualities of high statesmanship. MR has no clue of statesmanship. MR simply bungled the administration after the war success. If not for SF even the war success wouldn’t have been there. We will see in the days to come how Mara will go wild. The crossing-over will be in stages, second one soon to come.
    Wait for the fun!

Bravo Shyamon. Great article, as usual.
People will rise from their slumber and rally round in huge numbers. In the meantime Mara has appointed the rascal SB as Prime Minister!! More blunders to come from MARA.This fellow is an idiot! He might try one again on Susanthika with his new position

As an article Shyamon’s content is quite good.

But Politicians of present day Sri Lanka! Any statesmanship! Good god if there is any it is a wonder.

Ranil knows he cannot win the election and become the executive president, which he once dreamt of being. Maithripala and many others in the ruling camp has an axe to grind on this dynastic rule. Wijedasa Rajapakse now admits that Fonseka was used as fodder in the last presidential elections. Perhaps now with Maithripala, if he wins he is expected to hand over the power to Ranil on a platter as the executive prime minister. But in hearts of hearts will he? If he looses he would be another discard.

So much for Sri Lankan politics of statesmanship.

“He(RANIL) knows the country’s interests come first”

Does he? If he knew this he should have left politics decades ago.

    “Ranil does a Ghandhi”

Did he? Or he was forced by his unpopularity amongst the Sri Lankan public.

    Has Shyamon become senile?

Yes Ranil has done a Gandhi. Jinnah said ” Muslims cannot have the British removed in order to be ruled by the Hindus”. This is exactly what our Tamil leaders should have said. But our Tamil politicians were opportunistic, they were more concerned about their own selfish interests and placed them before the interests of the Tamils. Jinnah set a clear precedent and if only the Tamil politicians had said what Jinnah had said, and asked for a separate state for the Tamils living in the Northern and Eastern provinces or at least a Federal state, Sri Lanka would have avoided the bitterness and the bloodshed that occurred
    between
the Sinhalese and the Tamils. Rumour has it that Lord Soulbury had in a letter to Mr C Suntharalingam said that in establishing a unitary state, the Commission had erred. The Commission had trusted the Sinhalese leaders and expected them to be fair by the Tamils, but the first act,the majoritarian Singhalese Govt did was to disenfranchise the up country Tamils of Indian origin, which some of thenTamil politicians supported much to their shame.
The history of Sri Lanka would have taken a different trajectory if only the Tamil politicians had the same foresight as Jinnah.

you must be kidding right ? Jinnah is considered the most inept short sighted leader as opposed to Gandhi who was secular. over 1.5mn people were killed over 2 weeks after partition was announced (using a foot ruler by colonial master) or are u saying it is ok to shed lives under western rule ? after all they are our rightful rulers eh ?

Wonder why Shyaman gives the credit to Ranil who all along tried to derail Sobhitha Thera’s initiative which was wholeheartedly supported by many eminent people of Sri Lanka. Everybody who supported Sobhitha Thera’s initiative should endorse the name of the common candidate. Ranil, the UNP leader solely can not select the common candidate. Ranil made a valiant attempt to become the common candidate but the people who got common sense did not want him to be the common candidate because people knew what the outcome would be. He even went to Thirupathi Devale to get blessings to get selected and he is such a fool like Mahinda Rajapaksa. Both Ranil and Mahinda should be removed from responsible positions. Theprime miniater of the new government should be Maithee after executive presidency is removed.

Well, well,…..Sirisena certainly looks nice and authentic(although ol’ Ranil looks the opposite). But hope that Rajapakse let’s go of the EP (other than for territorial integrity) and the megalomaniac tendencies of tall towers and the pope. He will get so many more votes that way. And also get rid of Gota from parliament (although the fellow did some good works- nobody likes him). But I wonder if Rajapakse will keep to any promises. So, if UNP is for united country concept, they will certainly do a better job of integrating Sri Lanka in the correct global-positioning for a better and more wholesome future.

It seems to me that in time to come Gandhi’s name could be wiped out and our own Ranil’s name will join the history books.

“He (Ranil) goes up to Maitripala Sirisena, the SLFP General Secretary, and offers him the position of common candidate”.

And this is Gandhi act according to Shyamon.

On the contrary, an excellent plot for “La desesperados -eaquel 2” I would have thought..;-)

    Shabhash Thamai!

Rajive Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Ranil Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi….. What a delightful, amazing rhyming first names are these for the last name Gandhi? Mohandas Harilal Gandhi…. ? an awkward mismatching! (Writer purposefully avoided calling Mohandas Gandhi as Mahatma Gandhi. Trickily, He just mentioned the last name; Smart).

After Atanagelle Queen, Srimavo had mowed every JVP weed and grass in the Mavanella , Kegall like areas, the Sinhala intellectual called the Norway for the Nobel Peace Prize for Madame. Didn’t the Sinhala Intellectual have already topped the King as the Man of the year in the Times Magazine? It is amazing, surprising, breath taking, shocking, stunning….. to see all what goes in the heads of these Sinhala Intellectuals.

They are calling him Lincoln and Gandhi together. That is really low. The appropriate ones would have been Buddha and Jesus. Comedy Thamai! In our high school clique, one of our gang members calls another one “Man daai you are the combined one of Ramayana’s Kuni and Mahabharath’s Sakuni yada” (Eventually I came to know that was a sentence used by Nagesh in a movie.) That friend always hangs around with us and always dodges us too. This man too deserves double titles. The great fox of the 20th century and 21st century, consecutively, in a row! The sad part is that is how the Sinhala Intellectuals advertising Ranil for years, but in that case, even the Sinhala Buddhist didn’t get fooled, so far.

If the writer has said “Gandhi tightly caught his loin cloth and threw away the Barrister’s Hat and the cloak because he was about to lose his loin cloth too” that might have made sense If the writer says, this guy gave up his EP post on his to Sirisena, Come on Man what comedy is this of the Sinhala Intellectuals? Are they telling that Sirisena is blessed with the EP post now, and Ranil gave up that mounteneous fortune to the betterment of Sirisena? Can I ask the double talk Sinhala intellectual, in their opinion, what is left in the EP post so Ranil to die had for that? Sirisena who was ousted from SLFP, sat and cried with the family members, came forward and saved Ranil’s loin cloth that is the “25th year, 5th term opposition leader”. That is what our Kamakaaran K.A. Sumanasekara also said.

When I read this piece of news I was reminded two things last week Fonseka said. (1) Those that come forward to CC will lose everybody’s support and will stay in the prison alone like me in 2010. (2) Ranil can contest for the election and win it, then why he does not want to do that? There is a story said in Mahabharata. Once there a Yaka ordered to a village people, if they want to be not bothered by him, everyday they have to send him a strong man and a cart of cooked rice for his consumption. It was very difficult for the family who come in the line, but the village was finding an uneasy calm. One day Veema came that side, he was hungry, smelled a lot of food. He walked into place to see an old woman cooking lot of food, but looked sad and was crying. He asked old woman,” Paatty, you are cooking lot of food, you look like going to have a big party, and then what are you crying?” She told the whole story and said she had only a grandson with her, she cannot send him to Yaka for feeding, but villagers are amendment and want her to send him anyway. So she had hidden him in the hut.”

Veema volunteered to the old woman, “See here patty! I am very hungry now, I cannot go on my path after seeing this much food, give something, and then I go to the Yaka instead your grandson”. It was unbelievable to the old women, but she did not have another choice, so she agreed. Veema quickly loaded the food on the cart and happily set out. Villages became suspicious and they followed this new kind of volunteer. On the path Veema let the bulls go on their path and he turned his attention to the food in cart. Some of them returned back to the village and started have fight with the old woman for having them cheated and hide her grandson in the hut. They believed the Yaka going to come into the village seeing the empty cart. When the bulls reached the Yaka, there no food left in the cart. Angry Yaka raised his hand to smash Veema and have eaten him even with the bones. But, Veema pushed hand away and fought with him and killed him. He turned down the cart and started back to village. The crowed that was hanging with him until now hooting and shouting with happiness all the way back to home. The people in the village thought that the Yaka was entering the village that was why the other people were shouting. The Sinhala Intellectual, the Grandma CBK is hiding Ranil in the hut. It is disappointing to see CBK thought if she go for EP she may have to face the court and gave it up to Sirisena. Sirisena, who is ousted out from the SLFP has volunteered to go to the King. Fonseka had warned that this may not be a new Mahabharata.

This is the time Ranil should have paid for the “Chenchauru Kadan”(Indebtedness for the food). He has been blocking the party for 20 years. If he did not want to go for that why didn’t he give up the party leadership, so far?

Voila! Ranil has done a theatre-like act. Make believe! Indeed he has put the country ahead of self in a stateman-like act. It must have been quite agonising for him to have arrived at such a decision being the party leader of a government-in-waiting. No doubt Maithripala Sirisena (MS) is a corageous, fearless soul to have accepted the candidature. Now it is up to the majority of the citizens, to gather around MS to get rid of the menace that they had been having for almost a decade.
