Ranil & Maithri: Vassals Of The Empire

By Malinda Seneviratne

Malinda Seneviratne

The Foreign Affairs Ministry and the British High Commission declared in a joint statement released on Friday (February 2, 2018) that a document offering ‘Royal Etiquette Guidelines’ circulated by an entity calling itself ‘Welcome Committee of British Royals’ is false. Both parties stated that neither had set up any such committee. It was headlined in a news report thus: Ministry says no ‘Welcome Committee of British Royals’

The document, signed by one D.F.P. De Mel, sets out what people should and should not do as per ‘The Royal Etiquette Ordinance,’ explaining that although full independence was obtained in 1972, certain laws were not changed to suit the new circumstances and therefore still hold.

The truth is that there is not such Ordinance. Even if one were not an expert on constitutional matters, the said guidelines themselves indicate that the document is a hoax. For example, it states that mobile phones should be switched off at all times. A dead giveaway, that.

Perhaps it is because the rest of the guidelines seem plausible enough that the document has had so much carry, especially in social media where it has gone viral. The impact can be ascertained by the fact that the High Commission and the Ministry had to come out and say what they said.

On the other hand, one might argue that it was something more than the plausibility that is at work here. One might say, for example, that it is the behavior of the current regime that has buttressed the believability factor. In short, the deference and even servility shown by the regime to the West and to Royalty in particular give the credence to what is a clever and yet carelessly crafted spoof.

Let’s begin with Ranil Wickremesinghe. When he was briefly the Prime Minister of the country in the early days of this millennium, Wickremesinghe planned to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Portuguese arrival on the shores of this island. Celebrate? Yes, ‘celebrate’. Now only someone who has internalized oppression to the point of celebrating his or her condition could think of something like that.

For years, he bashed the previous regime for its relationship with China. He bet on the West. He was slave to the USA and the UK. Until ‘Brexit’ floored him. Suddenly he said ‘We are looking East’. Now even an A/L student who knows anything about the global economy would know where economic power lies. China and Japan owns North American and European debt. You don’t beg money from a beggar, but that’s exactly what our Economic Genius did. Why? Because that’s his upbringing. The slavish mind that says ‘Anything White is good,’ that says ‘The Old Colonial Masters cannot do wrong,’ and says ‘I will let inhabit their version of my reality.’

That’s Ranil Wickremesinghe. How about Maithripala Sirisena?

Well, he’s the man who were ga-ga when he visited England. He bragged about going to Downing Street. He bragged that the Queen offered him her hand (I mean, to ‘shake’), after removing the glove, no less! To be thrilled enough to think that diplomatic protocol is ‘acceptance,’ is the true mark of a servile ‘native’.

The only difference is that Maithripala is a redda-baniyama vassal whereas Wickremesinghe is a tie-coat slave. Either way, it makes perfect sense for them to fete Royalty.

How else can one explain that neither seem to have remembered that this year marks the 200th anniversary of the Uva-Wellassa massacre by British forces? How else can we explain the fact that they’ve decided (jointly, obviously) to invite the Queen’s youngest son, Edward, to grace (!) the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Independence? [Read ‘Independence and the need to be like Keppetipola’ for an elaboration of this]

So, yes, the High Commission and the Ministry are correct; it is a false document. There is no such thing as a ‘Royal Etiquette Guidelines’ and there’s no ‘Welcome Committee of British Royals.’ Not on paper, certainly.

But no, they are wrong. There IS a ‘Welcome Committee of British Royals.’ It is a two-man committee made of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The IS a set of guidelines pertaining to ‘Royal Etiquette’ but it is wider and far more pernicious than the one signed by someone who calls him/herself D.L.F. De Mel. Those guidelines are followed to the letter by these two. Note what they have done and what they do and you’ll obtain the guidelines they follow.

The High Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs may have said ‘No, there’s no Welcome Committee of British Royals’ but the Prime Minister and President are emphatically countering this claim.

Yes, there is a ‘Welcome Committee of British Royals,’ and there is a Guideline for Royal Etiquette. Ranil Wickremesinghe and Maithripala Sirisena provide living proof of both.

“Ranil & Maithri: Vassals Of The Empire”

Are Ranil & Maithri the only ones?

We are all vassals of an alien culture we look up to and mimic ……….

Ah! The good ol’ Uncle Toms are at it again……..

Dressed in Whiteman’s clothes, speaking Whiteman’s language, writing in Whiteman’s letters, mimicking all Whiteman’s mannerisms………the good ol’ Lankan cultural purists are fighting among themselves to find out who is the least Uncle-Tom-ish!

It would have been hard to imagine if this is not happening in front of one’s very own eyes …………

      The horror! The horror! ………..

All the “Vassals” can free themselves if they so desire ……..but I don’t think it’ll happen anytime soon……..The choice to mimic is one’s own free will ……no one is forcing anyone………….

Don’t shoot me…………. I’m just the guy holding the mirror………………… the rest you do yourselves……………. :))

There’s an element of sour-grapes here…………All Ranil’s rascals can mimic the Whiteman well…………Mahinda’s side-kicks just can’t even if they want to ………..Basil, the minister of Economic Development, few decades living in the west ………can’t even speak the language ……..just doo wah wop wop……….. so what else do you expect them to say?

But they know which side their bread is buttered …………….all you have to look at is the schools they send their children to ……………all the Sinhala cultural-purists send their kids to Sinhala-Buddhist schools to be thought by eminent Buddhist priests…….and that’s admirable and has to be acknowledged ………..

Lovely bunches and bunches of grapes …………….one for you, one for you, …………Oh! Happy Day……………..

We Srilanka still a member of commonwealth. Commonwealth is a group of countries that were colonized and ruled by British. In 2013, the President Mahinda Rajapakse of Srilanka hosted the commonwealth heads of governments meeting in Colombo and took the chair of the office for next two years.
Is Mahinda not a slave of British Royalty?

So is their any patriot in Sri Lanka who can take the challenge and educate thirty-something Sri Lankan generation to look to the future & pick China the economic supper power instead of paying big money to immigration lawyer’s and agents to get their foot in colonial country’s to do menial jobs likes of cooks. waiters, cleaners, hotel workers, shop assistance.
By the way Sri Lankans I meet in the colonial West majority are grateful to be under colonials otherwise they wouldn’t stay.
Are they so dumb, uneducated unpatriotic to pick the colonial West against fabulous China .
Japan is out of the question they are very particular about riff raff entering their country.
And what bout Sri Lankan professionals Doctors, Accountants, IT workers? dumb, dumb, dumb, I guess.

All this is a bit rich for Young Malinda.

After all, this half-cock Marxist chose time and again to seek enlightenment in the west. His glowing subservience stood him well. As did others of his ilk.

Truth is that his credentials might have been better served had he searched or the ‘truth’ in the east.

    What’s that about glass houses…….

    Vassals of the Empire..
They are all in the UNP, and well taken care of now, by the “White’s Slave ” Dr Ranil, thanks to Redda- Baniyama President Mr Sirisena..
Is Sirisena a vassal or a dependent of a Vassal?….I didn;t think so, although one of Sira’s brothers used to mine Mahaweli sand, as it is his own holdings, according to the information from our Inhabitants..
But UNP Vassals are in plenty and .
And they are proud of it.
For example UNP Minister Kandy Kira who is the the guarding of the British Hybrids recently boasted that his Missus Family owned 50 0000 acres of Land in Balangoda, which is my most favourite place in Srilnaka for obvious reasons,
And Kirra went even further to bragg about his own vassal holdings which he said was in thousands of acres too.
This was all in response to a simple query from a Journo , whether Kirra can explain why he gave someone 0.25 percent as Commission from the LKR 138 Billion Loan from Mitsui.
And why a further 1.25 percent was awarded to that gentle man with a Tamil name and his Agent in Colombo.
This is just a one example of the vassal power of the UNP.
I saw a nice photo of the British Icon the GFH ,and the Green , where Vassals were moving around in their white Suits, while our dalits who were the great majority were squatting behind and in front of little huts , in the late 1800.
Unlike Dr Ranil’s I don’t think Sira,s ancestors would have been there then, in those White Suits.
    Good Luck to him.
But Sira should at least remember those who were squatting then looking at the Vassals ..
And still squatting and watching the new UNP Vassals moving around in their fancy clothes and expensive vehicles….

“Now even an A/L student who knows anything about the global economy would know where economic power lies. China and Japan owns North American and European debt.”

This satirical comedy creative writer , by his own word accepting that he is not even at A/L level.

Japan is the world’s most indebted nation. China per capita income status is about 110th among the world’s nations. That is even below Iraq, which our Sinhala Buddhists friends cry as destroyed by US. Among the Chinese nations, Singapore (6th), Kong Hong, Taiwan, Korea(41st) is the order.

If your Master to give give you a free laptop, will that alone make you a freelance Economics writer?

The hate Malida was convulsing to write made him a bilnd eyed.

Mallaiyuran: You are very good at writing crap. Japan has debt. It is to its’ own citizens. China per capita average income may be very low. but, If you compare with the USA which has about 350 -400 million people, China has high lving standards for that number of people and they have the largest no of billionaires and they have more 600 million peasants to be developed. So, that is how the income goes down. China owns most debt from europe and America. Even UK went and associated with the CChina not listening to the their pal.

The Tailor, the Cutter or whatever , the former ‘ Foreign Minister’ would have fitted in perfectly well with the servility of this Yahapalana duo. Shameful to think that the one who signed the letter about this ‘Royal Etiquette’ did not realise the folly of mentioning the ‘mobile phones’, besides everything else. What a mess!
