Sajin, Karuna And Flood Of ‘Undesirables’ Flock To Maithripala

As he tries to consolidate power inside Parliament new President Maithripala Sirisena has attracted several undesirables from the previous regime, including the notorious Sajin Vaas Gunewardena and Karuna Amman.

Gunewardena well known for his shady deals under the Rajapaksa regime and his assault on Dr. Chris Nonis extended support to President Sirisena at his residence.

Several UPFA members including SLFP Vice President Karuna Amman, Vijithamuni Soysa, Jagath Pushpakumara and Dayasari Jayasekera extended support to President Sirisena last evening.

The entry of Karuna into the Sirisena fold is raising major concerns after the opposition campaigned strongly on a platform to hold both KP and Karuna to account.

Wide sections of the UNP are unhappy about the movements but it is learnt that the party leader is explaining that the process is about building a majority in Parliament. Fears are rampant that defeated President Mahinda Rajapaksa may return to Parliament on January 19 and wrest control of the UPFA majority in the House and the new administration is key to secure support ahead of that date.

However, the Government is also being warned that the flood of undesirables sent to President Sirisena’s doorstep are arriving at the behest of President Rajapaksa who is engaged in an attempt to discredit the new administration.

Rajapaksa is making a desperate bid to return to Parliament by getting one of his national list nominees to resign. He will then attempt to build a majority and wrest the Premiership.

However legal sources say the appointment of the Prime Minister is entirely the discretion of the President according to Chapter VIII article 43 of the constitution. Furthermore the Prime Minister is an executive appointment and Parliament has no role in the appointment or removal of the Prime Minister.

Speculation was rife that the UPFA would attempt to submit an appeal to the Speaker of Parliament to express the lack of confidence in the majority of members of the House in Ranil Wickremesinghe. If President Sirisena fails to act, the UPFA plan was to submit a no confidence motion against the minority Government.

But the situation is a stalemate because Sirisena has the option of dissolving Parliament to thwart a no confidence.

Insiders claim that the flood of UPFA members pledging to support President Sirisena could derail the Rajapaksa plan to force a dissolution and scuttle the 100 day plan.

New government is trying to save itself being still-born by somehow getting together a motely coalition like for the presidential election. They are still scared of Mahinda coming to parliament.

It appears that some of the rogues and criminals protected by MR are now sucking up to MS not only to save them from the long arm of the law, but also to destabilise the new government from within.

      Classic Trojan Horse syndrome!

      MS beware!

All undesirable thieves and thugs should be prosecuted, punished and take legal steps to repatriate their ill-gotten wealth back to the country to stimulate the economy. USD 13.5 Billion is a lot for development of Sri Lanka.

Three of the most despicable Sri Lankans, a curse of humanity who preyed on society and its finances were; Douglas, Arumugan Thondaman and Karuna. What is the crime they are not guilty of?

Can these dregs of society ever add strength to ‘compassionate Governance’?

Did the best in society work hard, only for these criminals to benefit?

Should the 6.2 million who voted for justice and the 1000s, who laboured for months be slapped in their face?

What a travesty that a President and Prime Minister who knew them well should go so easily towards the nation’ ruin.

Social vigilance is not just against a coup, but against dregs.

Low prospects of Ranil continuing as prime minister

The presidential election was a coup by foreign elements. Its broader similarities to the 1815 ousting of the King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe II by the British are uncanny. In 1815 they based their campaign on tarnishing the king’s image as ‘cruel’ and corrupt.

Just as in that case, 1n 2014 they co-opted the local ‘radala’ and other elements – a hotchpotch of losers in local politics and Buddhist monks who wouldn’t know the country’s Constitution from Ummagga Jatakaya – to execute their plan.

Things have changed in the 21st century and they will not be ruling us overtly this time. They will run Sri Lanka from behind the screens. The incompetence of the local hotchpotch, however, appears to be making things difficult for them.

The ignorance of the hotchpotch on the constitutional provisions on the executive presidency came to light in the first week of the campaign. After making extravagant promises they realised that abolishing executive presidency is not a job for the president himself, but a function of the parliament, vetted by the public in a referendum.

That particular ‘stuff-up’ arose because the hotchpotch decided to base their campaign on the cry initiated by a monk with no legal knowledge – the Ven Maduluwawe Sobhitha thero – the self-appointed leader of a minor grouping with less than 100 members.

It is astounding that none of the figures vying for alternate ‘leadership’ and good governance had thought it fit to get a legal opinion on Sobhitha’s hair-brained idea to abolish executive presidency in 100 days. The realisation forces them to drop the idea, and the promise was nowhere to be seen in the manifesto.

Now it appears they have not learnt from that mishap, and are continuing to operate without any apparent familiarity with the Constitution. They also seem to lack the sense to seek the opinions of experts on the subject, at least Sarath N. Silva.

The continued affliction of the hotchpotch with this failure is apparent in the hurried appointment Ranil Wickremesinghe as prime minister. The ‘act’ of appointing Ranil Wickremesinghe only existed in the secret ‘pact’ signed between Maithripala Sirisena and the UNP.

The hidden hands who stage-managed the ousting of Rajapakse have obviously failed to consider the role of the parliament in the affairs of the executive president. The ‘pact’ obviously does not make the ‘ultra-vires’ appointment of prime minister legal.

Chapter 43 (3) of the Constitution stipulates that “The President shall appoint as Prime Minster the Member of Parliament who in his opinions is most likely to command the confidence of Parliament.”

How can Sirisena be confident that Ranil Wickremesinghe is “most likely to command the confidence of Parliament” with a SLFP majority? Why would meekly elevate Ranil Wickremesinghe – a man who couldn’t win an election to save his life – to the prime minister’s chair?

The obvious lack of logical thinking, and execution among the new clique is plain stupid.

The foreign conspiracy to steal political power in Sri Lanka has succeeded -for now.

But Ranil Wickremesinghe’s days as prime minister are numbered – 7 to be exact.

He was not a cruel king though he killed 8 children and got the mother to pound their heads.

maybe your days as a commentator is numbered due to embarrassment as ranil continues as the primeminister after 7 days is up.

It is not only the foreign elements that shows MR the back door – MR ‘s advisors ,supporters family members also contributed immensely for the down fall of MR – one of the big contributor in this regard is the Sajin V G – a brainless , big mouth, idiot of first rate made our country a laughing stock in the world as a coordinating Minister – these guys should be hang in public – not only for robbing but also for dragging the country into a disaster – Before election I tried my best to tell bloggers of CT, that this is not the time for a change – not because I was not aware of the misdeeds of MR Gov. but to save the country from conspiracies against our motherland – unfortunately paranoid bloggers were so much brain washed by media hype against MR – in a way the cronies around MR also amply contributed to fuel further the media hype

how can ven Rathana and Ven Sobitha sit in the same govt of Yaha Palanaya with the person that give orders to kill the 75 samaneras in Aranthalawa and 650 unarmed police officers that was surrendered? isnt that a war crime for Pa…Cha Ranawaka?

They need to take Karuna and SVG who amassed Billions of rupees from kick backs and isnt this royal pimp and wharf clerk owns 7 helicopters?

Is this the promised Yaha-Palanaya? are we taken as idiots?

You are asking the right question Matilda.

Not only that, the cabinet they promised black and blue that won’t be more than 25, is now apparently increasing to 40. This is to buy more of MR’s men.

So you might say, they can fool some people for some time, but not every one all the time.

Give them the 100 days and we the people will topple them.

This is clearly turning out to be a recipe for disaster. The will of the people for change may now be hijacked by those very same stooges who robbed the country’s resources. The best option is go the route of dissolving parliament immediately (a slight deviation from the original 100 day program) and go for parliamentary elections and let the people decide their candidates to represent them in the House. Some of those in parliament today have been enjoying the perks from Chandrika’s time and living it out in style at peoples’ expense. Shame if we have come this far and we don’t capitalize on this new situation. The only problem I see is finding the money to conduct fresh elections immediately if the coffers have been drained dry.

Sajin should be thrown in jail for all the deals he did to make so much of money. He used his connections with MR on all the shady deals making millions of dollars and finally brought shame to our nation by assaulting our own HC to UK. He was running the foreign ministry like his private property and People like him don’t deserve to be anywhere near the parliament but should be thrown away and locked up.

    Yaha Palanaya. Maithree Palanaya,

    Looking at the coming colours,
Maithree does not look like an idiot, He is building his back up as he is well aware, Ranil is going to check mate him, I am pretty sure M3 is not going to hand over the power as expected, I am bit happy because you can not rely on the current UNP clan to govern the country. But we are heading to where we started, Corruption, Nepotism is going to continue, MR knew this was the only way to govern SL, We will see more shows soon. start with 25, now 30, start adding deputies,

Mr President do not take these undesirables into your party. Rajapakse is a schemer who is planting these people like Vass and Karuna in your party. These are fifth columnist who work from inside and provide information to MR. Don’t be nice Mr. President. Consider for a moment what the Rajapakses would have done if they have won the elections. You would have been behind bars with triumphed up charges.
You must remove him from the political scene for ever.
For God sake he was planning a coup. This is an act of treason. Appoint a Commission of Judges. Let the law of the land take its course. With the evidence we have there is no,question that he was planning. a coup.
Time is of the essence. Appoint a commission without any delay. It is in the interest not only of you but the country.. Charge Karuna. Are you not aware that he killed 600 innocent policemen?
    What are you waiting for?

Leon,he is waiting for chandrika to lend him her balls.

Be patient, once she comes into the fray maithri will lead the charge right behind her of course.Ranil will also come after the battle is over to pick up souvenirs from the corpses.

meanwhile fonseka is looking for a good tank he purchased from pakistan to get into and start firing shells at gota who is peering over the wall in kirullapona holding a bazooka.

      Interesting times ahead.

Sajin should be locked up. But I am not too sure about Karuna, without his defection the war victory would have cost much much more in lives. If we are planning to forgive the Army’s for its excesses we may need to forgive Karun too. And co-opting him and KP is better than having to fight them all over again provided of course they need to conduct themselves within the law.

All the kings’ rogues are now Maithri’s rogues.

Don’t expect too much from the Maithri Achcharu.

It is a good thing that MARA was ousted. But is this going to be a case where the cure is worse than the disease. With so many undesirables being welcomed by Maithri with open arms it may as well be the case, the cure could be worse.

Storm and teacup come to mind. Individuals can support who they want. As long as these morons don’t get roles in the cabinet, I am okay with whichever way they vote.

After all, it is unlikely that their electorate will vote them in the next time (unless they came through the national list).
