Sickening Behaviour By NOC Committee

By Primus Salgado

The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka has become another organisation under the spotlight for corruption in our nation. The absolute impunity and craftiness of its Executive Committee were exposed after
the inquiry into the corrupt practices of the Secretary. Yet, he remains without any shame using a majority within the Committee who have benefited from his largesse using NOC funding and perks.

Many news reports were published about the corrupt practices within the NOC, which was directed towards the longest-standing Secretary Maxwell de Silva. Quite like the Rajapaksa regime, it was a free-for-all as long as the Secretary had a stranglehold of his position.

An ethics committee report singled out the unsavoury practices of the Secretary which was taken note of by the IOC and OCA seriously. Many warnings issued by these international bodies went unheard, resulting in their withholding of funding. This should bring shame to the local body. Did it? Nay, Nay, Nay. Once a person loses SHAME, all is lost. No one is bigger than an organisation. Time and time again it has been proven. The outcome will bring disaster to the Secretary…….and even extend to the Committee. An example of the longstanding Rajapaksa regime is but proof.

Many allegations smack of criminality. Funds deposited in an organisation are given in trust. This is sacrosanct. Trustees such as the President, Secretary and the Committee are duty-bound to handle money with utmost care and honesty.

The ethics committee has highlighted a few instances where duplicate payments were used by two officials and sums were returned months after when it was found out. Surely, they knew that payment for one
commitment was received from the IOC-OCA and to dip into NOC funds for the same was fraudulent Returning the money months later does not clear them of that criminality. It is called temporary misappropriation. It is in our Criminal Procedure Code. Please note Mr De Silva. Well, people smuggling? Need that be even discussed?

Here is the rub. If the Committee rallies around the Secretary to support him out of this scenario, they become accomplices to such crimes. The IOC-OCA is clear in their minds that the recommendations of the ethics
committee must be adhered to. The delay in doing so has resulted in them suspending funds to the NOC. No further clarification is needed. Full stop.

If the President, Secretary and the Committee dilly-dallies they will dig their graves and, bring shame to our nation. By now all other nations within the umbrella of the IOC-OCA would have taken note of the unholy situation of our branch. Shame on you guys.

It is time for the Government which is committed to reversing the stink of our nation to look into the shenanigans of the NOC as early as possible. Calling an AGM to elect a new Committee by the same persons as a ruse to divert attention by placing dummies who will support them will only delay the adherence to the ethics committee findings. Funding by the IOC-OCA will not be forthcoming for changing the pillows. Maxwell De Silva and the Committee can ignore this at their peril.

The only way to move forward is to ask the affiliated sports bodies to select the NOC committee they wish to have.

Any other solution would mean , an outsider deciding what is best for our athletic clubs.

Democracy is not favoured by those who are corrupt and arrogant.

I have not heard of this Maxwell Silva, who it appears is a small timer. But I gather President NOC Subramanium is a behind the scene manipulator of our several Billion rupee energy sector. He is said to be from a very humble family now overnight very wealthy !

It is because of such shenanigans and manipulations that Sri Lankan energy sector is in crisis and our fuel bill is so high. People say CEB is corrupt. Who corrupted them ? Outside agents bribing these public servants !

They have also funded our political parties especially Ranil and UNP in millions.

Has anyone in the NOC being named as a holder of a secret Swiss Bank account ? What did this man do to earn such wealth ? How did he take this money to Switzerland ?

The answer to that question will answer all your questions

        OC,
There was a saying in Pera that “He who wears his partner’s shirt behaves as if the shirt belonged to him.” Also, today, the current government is enjoying the progress made by AKD-led groups with “Fitch Ratings and Moody’s ratings.” Who should really be praised?

Our monks and GMOA are silent today for some reason. GMOA is a powerful institution that has abused its power to support the Rajaksha rastas. But today they are behaving like deaf and blind. SRILANKEN media is also silent about them.

OC and all other rational thinkers,

“Judge, jury, and executioner “Deepthi ” all at the same time.” This self-proclaimed expert, Deepthi, has no other intention than to twist the information for her own benefit.<———————–a mental issue—————
She should rather discuss her expertise with our SINHALA_MAN (self-proclaimed AKD expert) who is making every effort to rectify his faceless situation.

I assume Deepthi can read and write Sinhala. She can watch the videos below and know the updates about the country after blessing AKDISM.

Why would I want to go to Canada when the likes of you have buggered off to UK? Now all the garbage is gone, it smells a lot better.

        Hello OC,
        .
Many people living in London are not happy today. The cost of living is reaching unaffordable levels.

We know it well, Deepthi the Dollybuster seems to have no other hobby than “giving her thumbs up”. Some work to survive after retirement. I believe, Deepthi and her siamese twin, the high IQ man are both unemployed people, they are “inflated with Sinhala pride but live outside the country. They like to waste time without being able to return home. Ironically such people talk about the ups and downs of Sri Lanka.
Greetings to you from the Netherlands for the two days.

Poor woman is tied to “thumb up meter” 24/7. Why can’t the kind of the miserable return to home country and enjoy good temperatures? Srilanka needs more than 2 million tourist arrivals.
In fact, I do so 2to 3 times a year.

        Hello OC,
        .
I wonder where the Sinhala_man is hiding today?

He used to entertain us by giving us unnecessary information about his sleeping times and diaper changes etc. Today man is like a higher rodent living in winter hibernation.

      Deepthi Silva,

Actually Trudeau recently cut back on immigration due to incidents such as the one in the depicted here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BISFOw5TfUw&t=24s&ab_channel=TrueNorth. Keeping in mind, Trudeau is an uber-liberal, probably more pro-immigration than even Merkel.
Keeping in mind, these are the “brightest Indians” who have the resources to immigrate. Imagine the ones who stay behind.

            OC,
In my childhood in Sri Lanka (first 2 decades), my father used to give his pet dog (name was Deepthi) a naked meat bone when he/she barked without a break. That way he could quiet the dog for a while. That helped my mum could continue cooking the dinner peacefully.

Similarly, we should give Desperate Deepthi, or the symbol of madness (as she prefers), a toy to keep her busy. No literiture books can help her, that she has already proved.

Only then can I think of refraining from her stupid sarcasm. The poor woman is full of heath issues, her etiology is sometimes far from understanding. Her talk about literature is high, but for some reason it is not clear what she has learned.

        Hello OC,
We were on holiday in the early sixties near Glencoe (site of an infamous massacre by the English Redcoats assisted by the Campbells). We stayed in a small Cottage near the road and beside a Burn (small stream). One morning my father spotted an old “Godaya” (Tramp in English) sitting at the side of the road. He invited him over for a Cup of Tea and something to eat. The Tramp came over but insisted on staying outside, so he was given a Chair and ate some food and drank his Tea. My Father talked to him for a while and then he was on his way.
My Father explained that the Tramp was an old Soldier (he recognised his Badge) that had served in the 1st World War and couldn’t settle in his Family’s House after the War so took to the Roads (probably PTSD). There were quite a few men in Scotland that adopted this way of life, very few women did.
As my Father said always treat the “Godayas” with respect.
        Best regards

Scott the bogus Lord, Your con story does not sound true generationally ! The World War you refer to ended in 1918. When were you holidaying in Scotland and how old were you then ? Tell a con story like that to Leela the idiot. We have sharper brains in London !

You use outdated Scottish words but keep the company of doubtful characters like OC and Leela !

What are you doing in the poverty stricken South Asia when you can be in Scotland talking about your father to poor tramps ?

Anyway good to learn that the Scots, nay ,whole of Britain, looks up to our half caste braggart.

            Hello Deepthi,
Sorry to burst your bubble (in Glasgow you would be called a “Balloon”). It is a true story, I was about 8 or 9 and the Tramp was in his late 60s or early 70s (a bit hard to tell). He looked the same age as my Grandfather (who fought in WW1) born in 1893. My Father was working on the Ben Cruachan Hydro Scheme from around 1960 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruachan_Power_Station
We were on Holiday after he had been working there for nearly a year so it was probably 1961. Do some research into what happened to returnees from the Wars (WW1 and WW2). Even Vietnam Veterans had similar problems. After WW1 it was called “Shell Shock” and nowadays PTSD.
I worked for quite a few months at the Royal Courts of Justice in London and met some of the sharpest minds in the Judiciary, but you’re not one of them.
As for my reasons for living in Sri Lanka you can search the Archives, but apart from that, what business is it of yours?
Your attempts at sarcasm just come out as abuse bordering on Racism, or maybe not bordering when you speak of “half caste” people.
            Best regards

Certainly, her things will not be requested from the British Museum. Mark it, this is a mental illness that many of our seniors suffer from.

              Hello LS,
              .
If you discuss them closely with any educated Sinhalese ( senior teachers or other professionals) in your area, you will get enough information about the “godaya”. The division between urban and rural Sri Lanka is very thick. This was well understood during my short time in Peradeniya in the late 80s.

I think Today, in Germany, the entire population is no longer racist, but some are rising up against lifestyles that I do not consider racist. Only east germans (Ossie) are supproting AFD which is the political party against the foreigners.
Many BA graduates in SL do not have the same knowledge. I had an uncle (BA Graduate, school principal) who was good at civics and geometry as well as arithmetic. But his peers did not show the same level of proficiency in the subjects. For example, the Sinhala_man or the like who proudly claim to be retired senior teacher doest not have extensive knowledge of Sri Lankan affairs. He may be good at heroworshipping STS, his peers and AKD but may not have a strong knowledge of the topics. Nor has he ever lived in a western country to compare west eruope with srilanka.
Others with better knowledge will explain this term to you more. I read elsewhere that you are already familiar with confusing terms like “KOHEDA YANNE MALLE POL” and “Women are branded as Reuters”.

                cont.
                .
In Sri Lanka, Godaya is the term for those who come from the village. Today it has modified to the term ” AMUGAWAYA”.
In germany, those who come from Bavaria are considered as Godaya for the north germans because their langauge accent is unique to them. The same may be the case texanians to others in america with their own accents of the langague usage.
                .
I was surprised to hear this term often during my short stay in Peradeniya in the late 80s. Urbanites used it to look down upon the others. Most of the students were from villages. The birth of campus ragging events is to make everyone feel equal, however, that does not seem to work over the decades.

Insanity symbol aka Deepthi attacks me for thinking that I must be a Tamil. See how poisonous the level of hatred should be ?The kind of clichee was also common in SL, as far back as late 80ties. Little was known to me however, that our people’s hatreds about minorities were that huge. With my departure for europe, I learned a lot about srilanka and eruope and other continents. I also travel around the globe for my job, and that was a plus further.

                Hello leelagemalli,
The problem with asking the Teachers/Professionals here is that they tend to give a “sanitised” version, whereas the villagers here know me well enough that they can tell their versions “warts and all”.
a14455 also gave a definition (see my reply below), but I still don’t know if there are colloquial differences in different Provinces, Towns and Villages.
                Best regards

                  LS,
                  .
It is normal for every language to take years to learn the subtleties of their usage. Some terms that Americans are used to using are not commonly used in the UK. However, your effort to learn the subtleties of usage in Sinhala is really good. That will be a big plus to your integration to lanken culture. I also knew one Englishh Monk lived in SL who had studied Sinhala properly for such a long time.
It is also common for some East Germans who now work in West Germany. I also find some difficulties to understand them depending on the place you travel to in Germany.
                  .
But Godaya in sinhala is a derogatory term for someone in a village in Sri Lanka from an urban perspective.
I don’t think there are any colloquial differences depending on where you live on the island. I also lived in Switzerland when I was working at Novartis, and I found that although they speak German, their dialect is sometimes similar to what you would encounter east part of Germany for example.

I have lived in Europe for the past 3.5 decades, fortunately, I have never met anyone with so much hatred in real life. And I have not been in a relationship with a Sri Lankan. We should ask the British Museum to keep her knowledge for later, after her future death (we all die).

Not to take anything away from this highly enlightened muck-slinging. I don’t think Godaya exactly translates to Tramp in English. Godaya refers to someone who is uninitiated in the newer ways rather than a Tramp.

            Hello a14455,
My relations here told me it was a derogatory term that meant you were unwashed, disheveled. Terms of abuse tend to change over time in Languages. They did tell me that it was formerly used to describe Villagers in a derogatory way. The word “Gay” changed in the UK from Happy or Merry, to being Homosexual and according to my Granddaughters in Aberdeen it now means something like being deliberately obtuse or stupid. The word Tinker in Scotland went from Meaning a Pot maker to being a derogatory term for Gypsies/Travellers. Maybe in Sri Lanka a word can mean different things in various parts of the Island? However I have noticed that you don’t have the extremes in Accent and Dialect that exist in the UK.
My apologies to all the Villagers if I got it wrong.
            Best regards

At that time, there was a film on Sri Lankan TV called “Colombo Sanniya”. You can see the behavior of people going to an urban place for the first time and how the villagers behave there.

A good example is “Godaya”. The way Deepti used it to me was really a derogatory term. Anyway, knowing that the woman is mentally ill, we should not take it seriously.

Why don’t you at least give us a break during the last holiday of the year (me being in the Netherlands for 4 days)?
