Sirisena Activates ‘Plan B’: Rajitha – John Meet Sirisena To Discuss Internal Coup In UNP And Form Fresh National Government Without Mahinda And Ranil

Colombo Telegraph is now in a position to reveal that two senior UNP Parliamentarians openly campaigning for Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe – namely Rajitha Senaratne and John Amaratunga – have attempted to strike a secret deal with President Maithripala Sirisena to form a fresh national government, without Wickremesinghe.

The new national government is ‘Plan B’ of Sirisena’s operation as he has failed to secure a majority in Parliament to support Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Prime Ministerial bid. Sirisena’s ‘Plan B’ is to form a new national government with the SLFP, a section of the Joint Opposition and a UNP minus Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Senaratne and Amaratunga had met Sirisena yesterday to discuss the new arrangement. Dinesh Weerakkody, the son-in-law of Amaratunga and a close associate of Senaratne, had facilitated the discussion, Colombo Telegraph can reveal.

As a measure to break the current political deadlock, they had discussed the possibility of forming a new national government, with the SLFP, the UNP and the Joint Opposition sharing an equal quota (10) of Cabinet portfolios.

Sources familiar with the matter said Sirisena had even agreed to appoint any senior UNPer – except for party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe – as the Prime Minister of the new national government. Sirisena had informed the two UNP seniors that even Sajith Premadasa, the Deputy Leader of the UNP, was an “option” for the premiership.

Sirisena had also informed them that Cabinet positions could be given to about 10 UNPers and they had also discussed possible names who would offer support to such an arrangement. Interestingly, all the names that surfaced during this discussion are linked to large scale cases of corruption under the UNP-led government.

Colombo Telegraph, in June, revealed that sixteen close associates of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as well as their families have been targeted in a special corruption investigation drive launched by Sirisena.

The plan was to move the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption (Bribery Commission) to investigate Wickremesinghe’s aides, nine of whom are his closest loyalists. The Commission was empowered to investigate and even call for and examine bank details of persons about whom allegations are made.

These investigations and bank account details are likely to be used to blackmail these MPs into supporting the new national government, without Ranil Wickremesinghe.

After the discussion with Sirisena, Senaratne and Amaratunga had held a discussion with Wickremesinghe at Temple Trees on an alternative way of resolving the political crisis. During the discussion, both Senaratne and Amaratunga had stressed the need for an interim arrangement and had offered to facilitate a meeting between Sirisena and Wickremesinghe to discuss a “fresh arrangement”.

Colombo Telegraph learns that the ultimate objective of this mission is to edge Wickremesinghe out and get the UNP’s consent to form a national government with a different “UNP Prime Minister”, until the next election.

Another important outcome of this mission is to throw former President Mahinda Rajapaksa into a fresh crisis. Under this plan, Rajapaksa will be deprived of his Prime Ministerial post and will be forced to either accept a ministerial portfolio or to merely step aside paving way for a UNP Prime Minister, Colombo Telegraph learns.

Sirisena has decided to convene Parliament on November 14, buying more time to execute his ‘Plan B’. Initially, he promised the diplomatic community to convene Parliament on November 05 and then assured speaker that he would allow the House to meet on November 07.

Colombo Telegraph attempted to contact Rajitha Senaratne thrice to get his comment on the matter. However, he failed to respond to our calls. Dinesh Weerakkody’s mobile phone was switched off when we attempted to contact on Sunday night.

Sirisena Should not get caught with People like Rajtha and S.B. I heard Mahinda Rajapakse is very reformed now eventhough he has not given up making his son a money making minister. I think Some one wants to check the waters whtehr it is Ok. Mahinda Rajapakse is a better serpeant than Rajitha. I saw Rajitha talking to Indian Ambassador from the USa. Now, I understand what he discussed. tey use Cancer Vaccines and GENE-Technology to plunder the country. They will NEVER SUCCEED in that with western companies. Instead ask CUBA which would do it cheaper. GENE TEchnology in commercial scale is NO NO. We can not do that. IT is very unknown yet.

Ousting Ranil now would be a suicidal move for the UNP at this point in time and will only worsen international relationships and probably lead to joint intervention intervention with troops on the ground.

Good plan, time for younger generation to take over. There must be an end to the Corrupt Political Culture of Immunity and impunity for Financial Crimes and Hate Crimes against people of Sri Lanka by corrupt politicians, their cronies and goons.
An age limit of 67 years to contest elections, and banning crossing the floor of the house from 1 party to another should be the new elections law.
Sira should have impeached Bonscam Ranil when the PCOI Report on the Bondscam came out and asked Sajith or Karu to form a new UNP govt. without Ranil’s corrupt royal college mafia. It is better late than never.
Both Bondscam Ranil and Mahinda Jarapassa (who RW protected for the past 3.5 years against corruption investigations under the guise of Fake Reconciliation after turning parliament into a Cesspit of Corruption with funds looted from the Central Bank and people of Lanka), should share the same prison cell. So too Mahendran and Nivard Cabraal and cronies network to stole from CB.

I don’t know whether there is any truth about the topic story. And I don’t think even a dead man will trust Maithri ever again.
As suggested in my other comments, Mahinda should RESIGN WITH DIGNITY while he can. He should have the brain to assess the situation correctly and take the best decision.
I told him repeatedly that there is a move to discredit him, make him unpopular and remove him from politics.
And another warning. From me this time.
Mahinda sought TNA’s support but Sampanthan rejected him point blank. (I envy Sampanthan’s guts.)
Now Basil has bought off a TNA MP.
According to Namal, Mahinda is planning to release hardcore terrorists from prison to appease TNA in a bid to stay in power. This is downright treachery. Don’t think I will keep quiet. Their reversal of opinion is unbelievable!.
Now Mahinda is trying to wear traitor’s shoes worn by Ranil for the last 4 years!!!!
I have hard time to fathom this.
In other words, Mahinda has started fulfilling Ranil’s treacherous election promises to TNA!
      Where are the Nationalists?
      Where is Wimal Weerawansa?
Where are Pevidi Handa and Yuthukama?
Where are Sarath Weerasekera, Channa Jayasumana, Kamal Gunaratne and Nalaka Godahewa?
Are they all hiding under beds?
How come those who hammered Ranil keep quiet when Mahinda does the same?
Can anybody believe this treachery to the country by Mahinda?
I swear, if Mahinda releases hardcore terrorists to get the support from TNA and/or any promise for a Federal Constitution, even partly, I myself launch an Anti-Mahinda campaign and make him repent of this treachery for the rest of his life.

Well now you see the real Rajapaksas don’t you. We knew they were pure evil all along. They will try to bring back the LTTE next wait and see. But this time all the Ministers who took and were offered bribes have collected the evidence to release to the public. Then the Sri Lankan Buddhists themselves might give him the Muammar Gathafi treatment.

Mahinda R stooped down to the level of a dirty/ugly politician ignoring his self-respect and dignity because he was so greedy for power and wealth. He lost his respect among the masses who could think rationally. Many do not like Ranil but now, due to this kind of very low act by our once popular leader Mahinda, we have no choice other than to support Ranil.

      • 3
        0

When TNA refused to support Mahinda, he should have stopped there.
What right does Namal have to say that hardcore LTTE prisoners are released? Did Mahinda discuss about this with JO? Did they agree? Did agree to get TNA’s support? Is this a collective decision? I demand answers.
The entire country criticized Ranil for taking TNA’s and LTTE’s support and buying MPs over with Ministerial posts and offering money.
If Mahinda is going to run the country with the support of LTTE, don’t think we will keep quiet. He won’t go far. Mark my word. This is same treachery we talked against Ranil.
What people say is correct. We are enough of these turncoat politicians. Sri Lanka needs principled new leaders.

Good riddance for you Champa !

These days I am so fed up of our people back in my home country. My freinds that returned to lank in 2013 and have been living in Colombo was so happy because they enjoyed democratic values. They wrote me very often. But since last week, they are all worried of their life back in home country. May well be they are worried of their lovely ones.
White vanning and those state sponsored crimes against muslims were their topics whenever they wrote me then. They are sinhalese, but they have got muslim friends in ALuthgama.

I never trusted bugger Mahinda. I always thought he should be criminal. I did not like the way he spoke to the public. I though his true colours are still not learnt ot
        the people.
That became even more few days ago having heard that Mahinda Rajapaskhe himself had been involving in those riots on Muslims. Sirisena himself made it very clear in an Audio tape.

Dont they have hearts ? How cruel you should be, calling to the world that you strong buddhst, but to behave so cruel as a human being ? Dont they have same age young children ? Durga city riots were inflicted by BBS and like minded groups but behind them were Rajakashes – THESE HAVE NOW BEEN ENDORSED BY SIRISENA.

As I know if I feel very guilty for what I have done then I need to worship the temples as often as we can .
This the bugger is seen today in Sri Mahabodhi ?

Why you guys cheat yourself ? What would you get instead ?

I have not lived in the country for last few decades, but I keep travelling home very often. Since i got to know even recent attacks on Kandy Muslims were an act of Rajakseh, I thought, how high criminals these men have been. Can they ever close their eye peacefully ?
For me the buddhist I was taught is ” NIRMALA”.

MR is not a bad person. Only problem is he cannot think rationally when the power gets into his head making him dictatorial. Otherwise who will bend his knees before TNA asking their support for survival completely disregarding the general opinion about them?
My opinion was completely changed with the news about TNA.
Knowing fully well that he cannot survive without having the majority in the Parliament with the CURRENT SETTING where there are only 96 UPFA MPs, Mahinda should have graciously refused Sirisena’s offer for premiership. If not he could have legitimized the appointment by attending the Parliament without prorogation which shows only his and JO’s unpreparedness to the new situation.
His acceptance only strengthened his opponents who were otherwise weak and unpopular a ten days ago. TNA was about to collapse with disunity among its members. Now he made Sampanthan a hero and gave a new impetus to TNA. Same story goes with UNP and JVP. He gave a reason for all scattered forces to be united on a common ground. So unwise.

Tell us as to why you continue saying that PROVABLE HIGH CRIMINAL Rajapkashe is not a bad person ? Then I should be able to call it any other leaders that behaves against humanity and own people but only focusing on their families and future.

Not few days ago, Sirisena himself as the commander in chief of the force/minister of defence correctly articulated:

That the violence against minority folks in SRILANKA both in the Regime of Mahinda Rajapakshe adminstration ( previous administration where MR was the president) and recent riots under Srisena-Ranil were carried out in Kandy against Muslims were resulted by direct involvment/guidance of Rajapakshes. Sirisena further insisted that the media for some reasons refrain the information. Media was seen to be feared to Rajapakshes all these 3.5 years albeit they had the chance to do the job neutrally, if MEDIA in SL really intended to do so right ?

All in all, Sirisena has proved to the world, that Rajaakshes are the HEAD ACHE to srilanken DAY TODAY LIFE.

Why are you killing us with the same topics over and over? MR himself does not feel much about Sampanthan’s rejection, and I don’t think even Ranil worries as much as you do about MR’s premiership – Will see what happens, you get some sleep baby

I don’t bother whether Ranil worries or not. My point is, what Maithri and Mahinda did was a bad precedent. This could happen to any FUTURE Prime Minister. Therefore, it should not be allowed to repeat.

Will there be a Plan C to get rid of Sirisena?

Sirisena is showing off his colors as a Traitor, Sealaya Mala-Peterthaya, Patholaya and Liat to Mahinda, Ranil and all those who voted for him and Yahapalanaya.

This is imagination running wild. I checked with the UNP senior. They had met to discuss the recalling of parliament on the 7 th. What is speculated is the best thing for the UNP . A young leader emerging. Will this ever happen with a man like Ranil?

I hardly believe that Rajitha S would ever be able to get on with Sirisena again.

These are just rumours to weaken the UNP.

Right at the moment, what matters is not necessarily support to UNP but to protect Democracy not being stolen by Rajapakshes.

See the ballige putha Sirisena just forwarded it by 2 days now he announces that 14 Nov 2018 will be the day for reconvene of Parliament.
All these are to block that FLOOR TEST by which the newly appointed PM should prove the world, yes he has got the majority.
With TNA and JVPrs have promised to support stand against Anti Democracy,
SO no doubt, ballige putha will have to face what Sadama Hussaine faced 2 decades ago.
We are closing watching how this bugger et al will be hung and liberate this nation from SUCH cruel dictators.
No mercy in the next days, there will be a folt stand against him.
These men are power intoxicated as they can anything else.

If this is true, It is really a wakeup call to the entire nation.
People should now demand through the written petition addressed to The President -CC to Speaker and all members of parliament to create a caretaker government and introduce The Westminister Constitution by abolishing the Executive Presidency and consider a devolved governance similar to Northern Ireland for Jaffna as basics to begin with, and letting the parliament to fine-tune and make changes when required once a new government is ushered in through a fresh election and then dissolve parliament and call for fresh elections.
Things are taking a very dangerous turn country may plunge into a dictatorship or total autocracy governance, not through willful of any conspiracy but due to the current political dilemma.
None of the citizens should approve any elections, not even any local elections without the return of the Westminster constitution in place and Tamils must be reasonable at this junction and without sabotaging must accept the evolved governance similar to Northern Ireland for Jaffna as to help steer the country to calm waters and then thereafter can discuss for changes that may be necessary.
Lawyers and concerned politicians must help the people, The President, and the cabinet to fulfill this obligation for the people and Country.
We wait to see what happens- if it is a caretaker government it really won’t matter who is on the Sukan or who are the passengers riding behind, as long as the constitution is replaced with The Westminister(which we had before ) along with a devolving Northern Ireland governance for Jaffna (only) by abolishing The executive Presidency.
If we miss this golden opportunity we are all going to regret forever, people can not continue to sleep on a serious issue we are facing, it is time people take responsibility and coordinate wisely and not rebel and create havoc.

The Westminster system is a parliamentary system of government developed in the United Kingdom. This term comes from the Palace of Westminster, the seat of the British Parliament. The system is a series of procedures for operating a legislature.
    Westminster system – Wikipedia
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westminster_system

Northern Ireland devolved government in a brief
    —————————————————————-

Since 1998, Northern Ireland has devolved government within the United Kingdom. The government and Parliament of the United Kingdom are responsible for reserved and excepted matters. Reserved matters are a list of policy areas (such as civil aviation, units of measurement, and human genetics), which the Westminster Parliament may devolve to the Northern Ireland Assembly at some time in future. Excepted matters (such as international relations, taxation, and elections) are never expected to be considered for devolution. On all other matters, the Northern Ireland Executive together with the 90-member Northern Ireland Assembly may legislate and govern for Northern Ireland. Additionally, devolution in Northern Ireland is dependent upon participation by members of the Northern Ireland Executive in the North/South Ministerial Council, which coordinates areas of co-operation (such as agriculture, education, and health) between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

      Lanka Nitizen,
N.Ireland is a part of Republic of Ireland occupied by British. British have no right to be in N.Ireland. Jaffna is part of Sinhale (aka Sri Lanka) occupied by Demalu from Hindusthan. So why should we devolve power to people who occupy the land once belonged to Sinhalayo.

C for citizens of all race and religion and language to unite and uphold democracy.
Time to stop this horse trading and corruption and erosion of democracy
If the electorate voted for an MP under one Party , he should resign and seek re-election if he wants to cross over to another party.

There’s also Plan C. That is, if the Patholaya doesn’t stop this lunacy and put the country back in order, the people will screw his Appa ass pretty soon.

Want to know the truth of what happened? Rajitha went and met with Sirisena on Saturday late, pleading to keep him as Health Minister. He only wanted that. But President Sirisena cited opposition from the Joint Opposition, GMOA and the new University Teachers. Rajitha went back to Temple Trees with his mouth pouring from both sides to the ground (an espression he can’t hide) and suggested to Ranil that he should step down. But Ranil refused.

As to Amaratunga, he is a staunch Catholic and is under orders to not to take prominence against President Sirisena. But he would only want change of Ranil’s leadership.

Take it from me, that is the truth of what happened and the CT could double check with its sources. It is Rajitha’s spin after the failure to present this as Sirisena’s spin. He is the most heartbroken man after the change. Because he loves power and opportunities it brings.

It is possible that there was a meeting as you have claimed. However, the purpose may be on how to dump Ranil and save these two codgers’ comfy life style. It was nothing to do with forming a national government with UNP. Rajitha is an old friend of MR and he is more closer to MR than the readers think. So my dear friends do not be surprised that John Amaratunga and Rajitha and at least 5 more UNP’ers crossing over to MS+MR camp very soon. Rajitha won’t get Health portfolio perhaps Environmental .

I remember once Dr. N.M Perera ‘s question to “JRJ” when this “Executive Presidency” was created: “What if a “Mad Man” gets elected to this position”? Dr. NM is not among the living; but thankfully the present President has provided the much awaited “ANSWER”. Thank you for Dr.NM for raising that question and Mr. Maithripala for providing us with an “ANSWER” and continuing to be a “Living Example”.

      Douglas,
We had a Mad Man’ as the PM. That PM was proved to be a ‘Mad Man’. According to the constitution, if the PM is insane, he/she can be removed from office. That is what happened.

“Dr. NM is not among the living; ” but he has left his two do.s behind to do the dirty work. These two sphere headed the scheme to draft a shady document known as “New constitution” to fulfil the wishes of separatist movement and pave the way for a federal state. Luckily, MY3 took the bold decision to sack the bugger who sponsored these two LSSP do.s wearing green coats. Your beloved Dr.NM is nothing but a another D.. who sphere headed 1953 Hartal on behalf of JR Jayawardene (then Finance Minister) in order to win the political struggle with Dudley Senanayake. JR succeeded in getting rid of Dudley but other biggest political dirt bag related to JR failed to succeed in getting rid of MY3 in his big scheme miserably.Sorry fellow tell your story to konde bandapu suddhas.

This is what you get in “, “ONE COUNTRY”, “ONE NATION”,” without the concepts being defined for the people, these are mere words.

This is a country deeply divided than ever before, polarised pitted people against people.

Many thought the division was along the linguistic or religious divide. On the contrary it is divided along the noisy minority on one side and rest of the people on the other. The country is being cornered by the “Fascist Tendency”. It’s not going to stay as mere tendency after it consolidate its state power. It appears some academics are on the side of such tendency without being honest.

My request to you is forget your empty slogans of “ONE COUNTRY”, “ONE NATION”, …. Sovereignty, …… stop the fascists consolidating their state power.
LTTE, Diaspora, JVP, Terrorism … are passing cloud. The real enemy is within not outside. The Fascist Tendency was planted by Anagarika Homeless Dharmapala who admired Germans and Japanese and nurtured by many.

N M Perera who was identified with early Trade Union movement in this island became its executioner when he worked for the weeping widow.
As Finance Minister he broke a Bank Employees strike in the early 1970s.

Then tried to organise one when he and fellow merrymen were kicked out of the coalition government. Felix gave him the boot. The strike fizzled out.

So much for one nation politicians.

In 2015, Chandrika brokered a marriage between UNP and SLFP. In this marriage UNP was the husband and SLFP the wife. A marriage to be successful, husband and wife should have equal status and respect the views of each other. But in this marriage things did not work out that way. Wife had to be a subordinate partner. Husband did not pay attention to the views or feelings of the wife. Husband was arrogant and expected the wife to accept whatever he decided. Having realized that the marriage is not going to work, wife decided to divorce the husband and marry her former lover. So, do not blame the wife for leaving the arrogant husband who ill-treated her. But in this forum, even people who talk about equal status for women keep on blaming the wife.
