Sirisena Indecisive Over Rajapaksa’s Nomination: Pro-MR Rally In Anuradhapura Postponed

Three days after UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha’s announcement on Mahinda Rajapaksa‘s nominations, serious doubts still loom large over his candidacy at the Parliamentary election.

Multiple sources from the SLFP told Colombo Telegraph that President Maithripala Sirisena had promised his close associates to review the decision pertaining to Rajapaksa’s nominations. Therefore the former President’s nominations, which was a contentious matter over the past three days, still hangs in the balance.

Maithripala Post ElectionFormer President Chandrika Kumaratunga and several other SLFP stalwarts who supported President Sirisena at the Presidential election had extensive discussions on the matter with the President on Sunday. At the discussion, Kumaratunga had stressed that Rajapaksa should not be allowed to contest from the SLFP, at any cost, she had also pointed out that there would be a serious split in the party and a group of MPs might join the UNP in the face of such a development.

Meanwhile, Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera, Convener of the Movement for a Just Society, had contacted President Maithripala Sirisena over the phone and had expressed similar sentiments over Rajapaksa’s nominations, sources close to the President said.

President Maithripala Sirisena is yet to make a final decision on giving nominations to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to contest from the United People’s Freedom Alliance.

Former Parliamentarian T.B. Ekanayake, a member of the SLFP “cooperation Committee” previously said the former President would sign nomination papers on July 08 to contest from the Kurunegala district.

Due to President Sirisena’s indecisiveness over the matter, the pro-Rajapaksa group has decided to postpone the rally in Anuradhapura which was scheduled to take place on June 09. The rally will take place on July 13 after the nominations for the Parliamentary election are finalized.

Meanwhile, BBC Sandeshaya reported yesterday that President Sirisena had received various requests to distance the SLFP from the UPFA and form a new alliance to contest the election.

MS has trapped MR and his gang in a precarious position now. MS has consented for MR candidature but refused tickets for number of his gang mates due to their criminal affiliation.

MR can not contest without his cronies who actually have persuaded him to contest. Without their support he will be a lame duck during the election campaign.

Let us wait and see whether MR will decline SLFP nomination and choose to contest from another political party.

Indecisiveness when faced with playground bullies such as the defeated dictator will never pay off.

Current President of SL is MY3. He is the leader of UPFA. However corrupt that grouping is. He is also the leader of SLFP. It is time for MY3 to act like a leader.

Otherwise, Ali Baba & 40 thieves which includes Susil Premajayanath & Anura Priyadarshana Yapa will seize the initiative & control. Dumb Sri Lankan electorate will follow the gang of corrupt clowns like sheep. Yes, once again! We cannot let it happen.

MY3 please provide leadership to the 8th January leadership at this critical juncture.

Kick the corrupt ex-dictator where it really hurts. No second thoughts. Kick him out. Period.

      Cheers!

What is unique about this whole affair is that both MS and MR are caught between Scylla and Charybdis as in Greek Mythology, though this is very real!

      Plato

“caught between Scylla and Charybdis as in Greek Mythology, though this is very real!”

      Yes.

Being between Scylla and Charybdis is an idiom deriving from Greek mythology, meaning “having to choose between two evils”. Several other idioms, such as “on the horns of a dilemma”, “between the devil and the deep blue sea”, and “between a rock and a hard place” express the same meaning.

between the devil Mahinda Rajapaksa and the deep blue sea. Just dump the devils.

The Only problem is that MS wants to drink his broth, “Kanday”, and save his beard, “Ravula”.

This is where his leadership and Statesmanship falls short. MS can be a leader and a statesman again!.

However, given the circumstances, he should stick to his principles and policies, and NOT give nominations to Mahinda Rajapaksa and his cronies, and be a statesman and leader.

By giving SLFP and UPFA nominations, he is doing more damage to himself, to SLFP and to the country.

Mahinda Rajapaksa was President twice. Isn’t that enough? He has an Ego problem. The best decision for Maitripala Sirisena is NOT to give nominations to Mahinda Rajapaksa and their cronies, and ask them to start their own party, Medamulana- CRAP, Crooks, Robbers, Amana Party.

MaRa MaRa Chatu Mara Amana MaRa….

      Through the grape wine…

Much the same as between a rock and a hard place! But, like Odysseus he should choose that which would risk the least loss rather than lose his whole caboodle.

For Maithri, to avoid the whirlpool of the Rajapakse Charybdis at all costs would be the way to go, or he will be sucked down to join the rest of the unsavory characters in what is akin to Hades.

While Greek caught up in euphoria that politics won over economics. Limitless borrowing from China which doesn’t shy spreading its soft power, would lead our next generation to the brink of defaulting the repayments if not current generation.

Offering MR a SLFP ticket, HE should know what he is doing; digging a hole for himself. What happened to Siriyani, whom MR nominated as the CJ, when she refused to toe his line should be a lesson to him. MS case much worse than Siriyani’s. Yes, rest of the Central Committee support MR because they need him to bury their past, but in your case not the past but yourself, HE. Trust people who made you become the President not the ones ridiculed you. Build A SL, where future generations that expected to be bilingual if not tri, because of the computer and internet revolution will live happily.

This cannot be true because all rallies other than religious is banned from the date the nomination started until one week after the end of the election.

Plato, I am not from Greece, nor was I schooled in the classics. Anyway I learnt a little today when you forced me to Google for the meaning of Scylla and Charybdis. For others like me, Being between Scylla and Charybdis is an idiom deriving from Greek mythology, meaning “having to choose between two evils”. So says the computer when I Google. Thnk you, Plato.

RE: Sirisena Indecisive Over Rajapaksa’s Nomination: Pro-MR Rally In Anuradhapura Postponed

“Three days after UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha’s announcement on Mahinda Rajapaksa‘s nominations, serious doubts still loom large over his candidacy at the Parliamentary election.”

The Saga continues.. from the grape wine…..

Mahinda stops dead in the tracks as Maithri refuses to yield ! Maiden rally cancelled;corrupt minions in disarray !!

Based on the letter sent by Susil Premachandra on 03 rd July making a request to permit desperate Mahinda Rajapakse to contest as an ordinary candidate under the UPFA , it is now known that Mahinda has now decided to contest the up coming general elections not to enter parliament as prime ministerial candidate , nor district team leader nor district election managerial leader , according to reports reaching Lanka enews inside information division.

Moreover Mahinda has pointed out to his lawyers that the notifications made by his bootlicking minion slave Susil Premajayantha are part of the plan of Maithripala to dupe or trap Mahinda, reports say.

Accordingly . Mahinda had said , it is best he does not contest at the up coming elections because by contesting the elections from the lowest position that is sans any status , it will be tantamount to building the adverse image already existent among the people, which will not be a welcome move.

The slavish minions of Rajapakse have told him , if he cannot contest through the UPFA ,to contest under a different party , and the name of that party is ‘Our Sri Lanka freedom Front’ and the symbol is ‘bouquet of flowers.’

However Mahinda is reluctant to contest under any party other than the UPFA or SLFP. If he is to contest under another Front , he does not want to field as a candidate himself in his name , and he will be only giving support from the side without direct involvement, he had revealed.

Following these sentiments expressed by Mahinda and his latest decision , the group including Wimal Weerawansa , Udaya Gammanpila, Vasudeva Nanayakkara ,Dinesh Gunawardena , Prassanna Ranatunge ,Dallas Alahaperuma, Kumara Welgama, Ranjith Soysa , Rohitha Abeygunawradena , Bandula Gunawardena , Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Gamini Lokuge who have no place in the sun ,and who were anxiously waiting to creep into parliament by riding on the back of 70 years old Mahinda are gripped in a tremendous fear psychosis whether their journey will grind to a dead halt , according to reports.

The latest information is some of these slavish minion groups are so helpless they have descended to such a base level that they are now seeking desperate remedies for their most desperate ills- trying to secure UNP nominations.

In the light of the latest development , the maiden rally of Mahinda at Anuradhapura on 9 th July too is cancelled.

    President Sirisena,

You cannot become anything more than what you are now. You have also promised that you will not seek the presidency again. You have nothing to fear except fear. Even if you have to unfortunately sacrifice your life for a good cause, the oportunity is right here and now for you. It is a cause, few are challenged to pursue. Your loyalty is to the people now and not your party or your old friends. Please show your mettle. Do not fail us.

As a first act, do not permit MR and his gang of unscrupulous men to contest on behalf of any party you are a leader of. If you cannot, give up your party affiliations. Do not be part of a great crime against the people of this country.

Please ensure that the alliance for good governance you are part of, publishes a simple, but truthful manifesto. Let it state clearly the vision, mission and action plan. Do not promise us the moon or even rice from the moon! We do not want anything free or anything we do not deserve as citizens. We, of course, do not want to pay for political follies and corruption. We do not want to see swaggering politicians, amidst us. We do not want to see politicians with fat oozing from their pores any more. We do not want to see, politicians dressed differently from us, any more. We want to see polticians who are like most of us, in behaviour and life style. We do not want to see persons who should be in jail, ruling the roost and lording over us. We want to see politicians, we can respect and look up to. We want politicians, who can be examples to our children. We do not want politicians to carry, kiss and coddle our children. We want politicians who will provide a better life for our children. We do not want our politicians to name buidings, projects and institutions, bulit with our money, after them. We do not want to see their fat dfaces beaminh at us from every street light and street corner. We are sick of it!

We can sacrifice for a better future, but not while our politicians feed on us.Bring the best among us into politics, at all levels of the political apparatus in this country.

Be honest with us. Let us know soon what you are upto. We had much faith in you. Do not disappoint us. We may not be willing to trust or believe anyone, any more. Do not make us a cynical bunch of people. Make politics a dignified endeavour in this country. We want to be rescued from the quagmire we have been thrust.

We expect much of you Sir. Do not let us down.

      Dr.Rajasingham Narendran ,

Our current President needs to grow some balls to face the mafia like criminals who are threatening to take over power again in Colombo. This time through the backdoor.

People who were behind the 8th January revolution are waiting impatiently to add power to the President. Once if he makes that courageous decision.

President Sirisena who won the 62 million hearts and minds of the Sinhalese, Thamil and Sinhalese should not let them down and throw them under the bus. That will be very undemocratic and betrayal of the trust people reposed on Sirisena. Like him, many who stood against Rajapaksa would have been killed by the army death squads. Rajapaksa’s hands are full of blood of thousands who were killed and forced to disappear without trace. Leave the Thamil victims aside, what about the killers of Lasantha Wickrematunga? Prageeth Eknaligoda is missing since January 24, 2010. Surely the Police know the perpetrators of these ghastly crimes. Mrs. Eknaligoda is demanding justice. She wants to know the truth. She has gone to Geneva to air her grievances. Let the elections take its course, but president Sirisena should bring the perpetrators before the court of justice.

President Maithripala Sirisena should remain firm and decisive and uphold the promises he made during his election campaigning for the presidency. He should not allow anyone to browbeat him and force him to grant nomination to Mahinda Rajapaksa of Medamulana (Sri Lankan Timbuktu, the most nowhere place on earth).

MR is extremely forceful and aggressive, especially when backed up by his cohorts, and the incumbent president should not wilt under pressure when subjected to this onslaught by these parties. He should just tell them all to go to hell!

What a comedy circus, and a comedy of errors, surely whats gone wrong with our Yahapalanaya President whom we (6.2 million) brought into power to rule this country in justice, peace and harmony, now if the Jarapassas and his 40 thieves of demons who had demonised this country come back into full force, this country will slip back into the ‘pariah status” and there will be no future for the younger generation cos all norms, practices, decency and principles will be destroyed and will be back to the white vans, killing of journalists, rapes, looting of the temples and artefacts, this whole copuntry will go back to the veddah arena, with no hope for its citizens, Sirisena pls wake up from your hallucinations and do not get the wicked Jarapassas back into politics they should be dumped into the bottomless furnace to rot in hell, the entire Jarapassa family and itrs goons and stooges.

From the many comments which appears in this forum, one is able to discern the mood of the silent majority who have not been able to make their views known due to various reasons about the lack of foresight clarity, vision or decisiveness on the part of President My3 for his unilateral decision in consenting to permit MR to contest under the SLFP election symbol.
Why did he succumb to pressure forgetting he had 6.2 million voters who had mandated him only six months ago to do what he undertook to do?
Can we trust a forgetful President?
Will he,and is he competent to deliver on the mandate?
Why does he need 48 hours to correct and set right an error of judgement he may have made unless he had done it deliberately and or intentionally?
