Sirisena Pays Back TNA & JVP; Weerawansa Cries

President Maithripala Sirisena is behind the twin appointments of R. Sampanthan of TNA and Anura Kumar Dissanayake of the JVP to the key positions of the Opposition Leader and Chief Opposition Whip respectively in Parliament says the UPFA MP Wimal Weerawansa.

Maithripala SrisenaWeerawansa says that the President had gifted the two positions to TNA and the JVP as bounty for helping him to become the President at the January 08 polls.

On the formation of a national government Weerawansa says “the President as the leader of the UPFA has taken an arbitrary decision misusing his executive powers by agreeing to set up a national government with the UNP. This is going against the mandate of the people who voted for the UPFA”

“Sirisena has taken a solo decision without consulting the 95 UPFA members in parliament or the UPFA executive committee to force the UPFA into an unholy marriage with Ranil Wickremesinghe’s UNP”

Weerawansa says that Sirisena had done a U-turn on his promise made to a group of UPFA leaders including himself that he would allow the opposition to decide on who should be the opposition leader.

“Accordingly we handed over a letter signed by 56 UPFA parliamentarians to the President on Tuesday requesting him to appoint Kumara Welgama as the opposition leader. At the time he did not say that this cannot be done. He kept silent and look what has happened now?” Weerawansa questioned.

Revealing more on the issue Weerawansa went on to say that the newly appointed UPFA General Secretary Wisva Warnapala on the instructions of the President had sent a letter without consulting other members that the UPFA will not contest for the post of opposition leader.

According to Weerwansa the conspiracy which was afoot was further exposed when Sampanthan wrote a letter to the speaker requesting him to appoint the JVP leader as the chief whip.

The NFF leader claimed that both the JVP and TNA were working hand-in-glove in sharing key portfolios in the opposition which should have gone to the UPFA, which had the largest number of opposition parliamentarians.

Weerawansa predicted that the UPFA members occupying the opposition benches will increase after the government announces its cabinet of ministers.

    1. “This is going against the mandate of the people who voted for the UPFA”— The national government concept was put forward right after Jan 8th. Most people that voted for the UPFA voted because of Mahinda, who was against this arrangement. They gambled on the UPFA gaining a majority and doing away with the whole concept. They lost that political gamble. Weerawansa is like a petulant child in denial.

    2. “Sirisena has taken a solo decision…”— Sirisena also took a decision to allow people like you to compete with the UPFA. For someone as obsessed as Wimal is with this concept of “kelehi guna/gratitude”, the guy seems to have a very selective way of applying this sentiment. In addition, no one forced the individual MPs now sitting with the UNP to join- they, like you, had the choice of remaining as an opposition. The point of consultation and approval is moot, but sadly, the gallery will not have the mental capacity to understand this, as usual.

    3. “…that he would allow the opposition to decide on who should be the opposition leader”— which opposition? If by “opposition” you mean the UPFA- the UPFA is not in the opposition, as a party. Individual members of said alliance has decided to sit with the opposition. As far as the law is concerned, the UPFA is in the government, with a majority sitting with the UNP. Such an “on the fence” party cannot be allowed to determine who the opposition leader, as this would set a dangerous precedent- in a future election, any majority government could decide to seat a few of its MPs in the opposition, and in that way, run both sides of the House, undermining the whole concept of a parliament.

    4. “Accordingly we handed over a letter signed by 56 UPFA parliamentarians to the President…”— but the President is not in charge of appointing the Leader of the Opposition, by parliamentary law. This letter should’ve gone to the Speaker, who wasn’t lying when he said that he never received this letter. Whatever goes on behind the scenes, protocol must be followed- a duplicate of the letter should’ve been sent to Karu, instead of whining and crying now. Wimale is still stuck in the times when the President dictated everything from what goes in the Hansard down to how often the parliament’s toilets are cleaned.

    5. “Weerawansa predicted that the UPFA members occupying the opposition benches will increase after the government announces its cabinet of ministers.”— All of whom will still have to work with Sampanthan and Anura. Oh the irony.

    Buruwansa is now barking loudly.
Buruwansa and his colleagues are now frustrated and despondent and completely depressed.
They are the people who completely destroyed Mahinda Rajapaksa and his reputation.
Now nothing can do….just only barking.
I think it will last soon.

Mr. Maithreepala Sirisena is very wise and intelligent person.
President and Prime Minister together wisely formed a team.

Buruwansa now you must shut up your dog mouth.

Yes, it is high time the SLFP quits from UPFA. Those disgruntled elements of the SLFP who sit in the opposition in defiance of the decision of the Central Committee can for their own party if they so wish.

Dog mouths LIKEW BOORU WAN should not be allowed in the Parliament or anywhere near the parliament which should be treated as a TEMPLE OF DEMOCRACY , Only decent educated MPs who can be CIVIL TO EACH OTHER during debates should be ALLOWED TO SPEAK. Remember the languages used during the last Regime in the Parliament not Singhala ,Tamil nor English but. But it was the language of Pettah Market to be precise they were speaking only in FILTH.
How were they able to solve the major issues of the country. NOUGHT.
ALL were barking at each other the Speaker from the family even allowed a protest SLUMBER PARTY IN THE SACRED PLACE CALLED PARLIAMENT just to prevent one of the brothers hauled in front of the FCID.
These kind of behaviours should be the thing of the past.
Mr PMinister Do not allow the uneducated to use filth in the Parliament.

The young and old be trained and given a book on the mode of speech at Parliament sessions ASAP.

Well said, It would have been an ugly precedent to be allowed, Wiser prevailed in many ways~

He was part of a very corrupt regime run by crooks of one family. Now he is not enjoying life away from power. This is his way of creating headlines. This kind should not be involved in politics.

The gamaya from Polonnaruwa has turned the tables on the Experts Booruwanse, Vasideva, and that other fellow whose name I have forgotten.

So many words/phrases come to mind: cheated, deceived, lied, pretended to be a baby, promised with no intention to perform, and many more.

Maithripala’s act was like taking the sweets out of babies mouths.

The three ‘smart’ suckers have been taken for a ride. It must be really hard for them to swallow the deception and shame.

While laughing our backsides off, let us be merciful. Should we recommend they end their miserable lives? the booruwa first?

Can you at least now understand that you are not needed by the parliament. Suggest that you continue your education beyond grade 9.
