Sirisena Takes Another U-Turn: UNP Offers To Bring 113 MPs To Presidential Secretariat With Signed Affidavits

Party leaders meeting, convened by President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat, ended in conclusively with Sirisena continuously refusing the UNP’s offer to show its Parliamentary majority.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and ousted Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe also attended the meeting along with other political party members in Parliament. The JVP boycotted the meeting expressing doubts over the President’s will to resolve the political crisis.

President Sirisena

The UNP, at the discussion, said the party had a clear majority in Parliament and said they were in a position to bring 113 MPs to the Presidential Secretariat with signed affidavits. The party maintained that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa should be subjected to a floor vote in Parliament as soon as possible.

Responding to the UPFA’s allegations over the Speaker’s conduct, the UNP representatives said the UPFA could present a motion in Parliament against the Speaker. The UPFA, however, did not respond to this proposal, as the alliance, which claims to be the ruling party, clearly lacks the numbers to form a Parliamentary majority.

The UNF representatives had also informed the President that the latter could not dictate terms to the UNP over its leadership or the Prime Ministerial candidate. The party had also pointed out, according to Article 48(2) of the Constitution, that there was no government in the country after the no confidence motions were adopted in Parliament.

Meanwhile, President Sirisena, taking another U-turn, said he could not accept the results of a voice vote on a no confidence motion although it calls within the Parliamentary procedure and Standing Orders.

Sirisena had a vote by name or a vote via electronic system should be conducted on the no confidence motion presented against Rajapaksa. However, Sirisena failed to take any meaningful step to prevent the UPFA MPs from disrupting Parliamentary proceedings.

Previously, Sirisena said he would accept the no confidence motion against Rajapaksa if the legislature adopted it minus the first clause which challenged the gazette notifications issued by the President.

1f Dr Ranil has 113 Mps in the bag, why does Dr Ranil have to keep squeezing the Balls of the UNP Senior, Uncle Karu .

    113 is a formidable number.
With all that why is Dr Ranil so scared to face the Voters in Lankawe,?

Why does Dr Ranil have to call for reinforcements from Western Embassies in Kurunduwatta ,to fight our Inhabitants Dalits from Magamapura to Medawachchiya ?.
    -….
Poor Uncle might get a cardiac arrest with all those Sinhala Buddhists in parliament ,calling Uncle Karu to be a Man , not a NGO & Ambassador sucking lap dog of Dr Ranil and his 112…..

I like good ol’ Sirisena ….. he’s a true Lankan, my kinda guy; easy to predict. …….. If his mindset was any different would have a hard time figuring him out.

He’ll strut and fret and fart his hour upon the stage and be heard no more ……. will disappear into the wilderness ……. then the next Lankan leader will take the stage and stink up the place …….. 70 years will just fly by …….. and some of us will be still writing in the forum how to fix things; who is right and who is wrong ………

And all you guys can start calling me Sumanadasa; pay me millions for a peek at the future ……… I’ll donate it all to charity; anonymously.

      KA Sumune,
The planned vote by Sirisena and Mahinda is different to Lankawe vote. Lankawe people wants a genuine vote, not Friday robbery votes. Mahinda is an illegal PM. He is not even an SLFP MP. I know you are not in China but in a western country. I understand that you try brokered MPs by offering 600 million. You are prepared to sell the whole nation to China just to put criminal Mahinda in p[ower. Even Gota said that it is Mahinda’s greediness to power in the middle of a power deal between Mahinda & Sirisena. Have you finished early moring washing Mahinda’s bowls?

Well if the crook/war criminal couldn’t control some hundred of his own hooligans in the parliament, I wonder how he single handedly destroyed armed LTTE without the Hindian’s support.

      Difficult.

The removal of the president from office has to be the next step. It is interesting to note how Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka was singled out for a battering by these animals. He was accused of a bogus conspiracy to kill the president. There were claims that his title should be removed. The animals knew all along who was the greatest threat to their survival. So they went after him. Well now it must be payback time. It is time to take charge. It is time to teach the animals a lesson they will never forget. Animals always respond stern punishment. If you fail to do this then you choose to live under a lawless tyranny. Remember how DIG Vaas Goonwardhana and the some officials in the navy decide to start a side business in kidnap and murder to make money from the ransom? How did they get that idea? It is going to come back and this time there is no hope. So either the nation pulls together and do what must be done or face oblivion.

What is more important is a NO confidence motion against the President Sirsena. He is the chief cause of all the trouble.
I like to ask one major question we the ordinary voter want to ask. Why did he in 2015 pulled out of his own party and went against the Very President he was under and who had until then praised him to the hilt and suddenly turn against him stabbing him in his back and called him a murderer having got many innocent people killed , swindler having robbed billions of money from foreign aid for Tsunami victims and so many other crimes Rajapakse have purported have committed.
He promised the voters he would fearlessly fight against all the atrocities committed by Rajapakse and bring justice to his many victims. and would send Rajapakse to spend rest of his life in jail. He won solely on that single promise and finally let down all those who voted him to power.
He made the very man who said would send to jail as Prime Minister!
What did this bastard Sirisena think of the people who voted him as President. He thought we are
fools. Ok if not for Rajapakse aren’t there any other person ‘on his side’ fit enough to be PM. Are all others worse than Rajapakse for him to be appointed as PM?
If My3 does not have any shame does Rajapakse too not have any shame to accept the person who stabbed in his back and accused him of very nasty things? If Rajapakse has a backbone and self respect and if the party they represent have some dignity and a policy they should also join with all others when a No Confidence Motion is brought against this bastard Sirisena and dismiss him from his post of President he does not deserve to hold and never deserved it.

Sirisena has an inherent psychological issue as revealed in his daughter’s book Burning his father’s paddy field, refusing to work with his assistant monitor just because he spoke in English. In this background it’s easy to understand why he is doing what he is doing. However pathetic his predicament may be with RW he should not be allowed to have his own way like a in incorrigible child. He cannot appoint anyone he likes as PM.

President Sirisena should be packed off to Polonnaruwa at the earliest. He is taking this country to a point where Srilanka will be formally declared a FAILED STATE!

President Maithiripala Sirisena’s another U-Turn is not a surprise.
Just look at the history of Sri Lanka for the last 2,500 years.
Total number of kings – 194
    Sinhalese kings – 175
    Tamil kings – 19
    Considering only the Sinhalese kings,
60 became king by murdering the former king
53 became king by murdering a brother
30 military commanders became king by murdering the reigning king and taking over
5 sons murdered their father to become king
1 queen killed her husband the king to take over
1 doorman killed the king and became king.
I think Maithripala Sirisena is up to something known to him – may be he wants to drag this matter until the Supreme Court hears the argument. I have some suspicion Maithiripala is waiting till a military coup is planned very well to suppress democracy.

Sirisena had a vote by name or a vote via electronic system

There some happenings in Digital Transformations like Fail power disruption, complexity in all sectors such as generating transmission, distribution and load system faults cause interruption to electric flows when need arises some can control from administration section

I do not think much of a purpose is achieved in talking to MY3, trying to bring in all the documents etc. when he is hell bent in not making RW the premier again. This will be a rudderless government until both presidential and parliamentary elections are held. This means that the country could be in a standstill state till about mid 2020. Can we wait that long? The chaps who mooted the idea of a common candidate in the first place did not see the danger of a system where President and the majority of Parliament would be in opposite sides. The worst assumption was to think that MY3 was a gamayatic simpleton would only be a sitting duck ignoring the lessons of history. Ministers in the Kandyan Kingdom manipulated the succession to the throne so that Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe would become king. What did they get?

Nah……… why UNP so shy of transparency and public scrutiny of their horse trading. They are not willing to face the public at an election and is adamant of secretly showing horse trading bills. Who is bending the rules, cutting corners and evading established procedures. Mr President give them hell and publish the full list of MPs and ministers that benefitted from black money from the great Central Bank Bond Scam. That is what they are afraid of and wriggling. They have no interest insaving democracy but on saving only their dirty skins.

      thrishu,
If all MPs and others who received handouts from Perpetual Treasuries are got rid of, we will have a clean government and legislature.
Some more will surface if CIABOC progresses to indictments.
But this is slowed down probably due to pressure from the guilty but powerful parties on the state counsel.

There is nothing to talk about the President.
The former President and his goons (ok, this is the word I use until they improve their behaviour) should stop their terrible double standards. They have made blunders after blunders already.
There is no change in our opinion about the UNP.
What they have done for the last 4 years were unforgivable.
As I said previously, this is UNP’s last Parliament.
Therefore, I want them to serve their full term until 2020 so that people can send them out of Parliament forever with “a clear mandate” demonstrated through “a free and fair election” conducted by UNP itself.
The former President should understand that any hasty general election could backfire if there were malpractices and vote rigging which will ultimately turn in their favour.
Also, any election which is conducted during a crisis period will undermine people’s determination to defeat UNP MPs en masse.
I am telling the former President, don’t overshoot your (our) goals.
You should stop being stubborn and mischievous so that this crisis will end. “Stubbornness has two opposite results. It can bring greater humiliation or greater honour.” (Vikings) Therefore, be wise when you choose your battles.
It looks like the former President and his people want to drag things until December 7. Ok, this is an open secret. If so, “Fight your foes in the field nor be burnt in your house.” (Vikings) :)

CT thank you for impartially covering this disgraceful episode. One aspect that has been striking throughout is how the private sector media in Colombo has chosen to side against democratic practice. If not for your site we observers would not get an accurate picture of the murky goings-on. Thank you again!

We have an incorrigible president who hell bends in going for the 2nd term of office with the help of any one. If RW gives a pledge to name MS as their presidential candidate, he will call RW the next minute to the secretariat to give oath as the premier. But whoever takes MS as their candidate, will doom to lose the election. He has lost the faith of all including his own party members. The stance taken by JVP by boycotting the APC yesterday, was a wise decision.

    All,

“Party leaders meeting, convened by President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat, ended in conclusively with Sirisena continuously refusing the UNP’s offer to show its Parliamentary majority.’

So, Sirisena knows that UnP has the support of 13 MPs.

” The JVP boycotted the meeting expressing doubts over the President’s will to resolve the political crisis.”

    JVP was correct.

“The party had also pointed out, according to Article 48(2) of the Constitution, that there was no government in the country after the no confidence motions were adopted in Parliament.”

Yes. What we have is a Traitor, Sevalaya, Mla-Perethaya, Patolaya and Pachaya as the President.

Ok, the truth is coming out now. It seems to be was not really an all party leaders meeting. So they didn’t talk any useful matter or agree on anything.

During the day, Ranil was talking to the Western Diplomats. He had to pass that to the other twos.

So, it seems to be they wanted to have all the three to meet, but without making any rustling. So they set up a larger noise of all party meeting and shadowed by it the three meeting.

So, again, rest of the 8th graders are going to throw the Chili Water Bombs on each other, tomorrow. I don’t how much the commission China is paying for Old Royals for purchasing these Chili Water Bombs from them.

Maithripala Sirisena is clearly protecting the Rajapaksas Criminal Cabal from the special courts! They want to force an election to escape trial. Do not give these criminals a way out. Time we request the international community to get involved because Sirisena is obstructing Justice.

Let’s send the Rajapaksa Criminals and the Cabal to the International Criminal Courts for trial. It has become abundantly clear that no action will be take against them in Sri Lankan…

This President possibly holds on to certain values, but he displays no principles whatever when it comes to dictating to the entire country what it should be doing on every subject under the sun, including those that he doesn’t understand.
    .
The result is a string of manipulative actions, which he ought to know go well beyond the realm of “realpolitik” and are unethical. He is also ruining this country; it has become imperative to find a way of getting rid of him.
    .
Actually getting rid of him has to be done by some people who know how to get it done. My vote for Maithripala in January 2015 was partly because I did not want Mahinda Rajapaksa to occupy any important position. That he cannot be elected President again is clear enough; but what if these manipulators claim that he can (when being Prime Minister) be nominated to a vacant post of President. Clearly, laymen cannot decide on the details of what has to be done.
    .
Unquestionably, My3 doesn’t like Ranil. My feeling is that many others (including me) don’t want to see him as Prime Minister much longer. However this involves a matter of principle.

    .
” [the] President . . . [can] not dictate terms to the UNP over its leadership.” We must oppose this effort of his.

    .
I found the courage displayed here, highly commendable:
    .
    https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/taking-sides-on-the-side-of-the-law/
    .
At first sight it sounds as though the Elections Commission and the Supreme Court ought to be “impartial” and not be aware of the wider implications of the issues involved. It is also heartening to see his very positive evaluation of the current Chief Justice.

It’s height time, some one gets a psychologist to examine this lunatic and prescribed some cure for his illness. He is mentally deranged and behaving like a psychopath. He is not at all normal, and he thinks all are fools but world knows he is a real fool, and all his actions are foolish. All these delaying and despicable tactics are to get the numbers by bribing but that has passed long time ago.

This is a disgrace of a President who is enshrined to protect the Constitution when in reality, he is playing football with it, uttering various meaningless excuses. With each passing day, both MS and MR are showing to the public their nakedness and unashamed quest to hold onto power without realising that even the Sinhala Buddhist majority of the majority are losing their faith and patience by this mockery. You have brought shame to Sri Lanka.

Balu Pora: Mr. President, you have a village background. So, surely you must know about the Balu Porayas (Dog Fihts). The Brawls instigated by your faithful followers reminded me of the Balu Porayas where dozens of stray dogs fight each other to transfer of genes. However, I did not see the fights of your followers ending in transfer of genes as in the case of Balu Porayas. Someone told me that it is for Parliamentary democracy. I don’t believe that’s true. Parliamentary democracy is Parliamentary democracy and your followers are your followers and never the twain shall meet. But I must admit, they were having great fun. At Rs 27.1 million per day, paid by the poor tax payer, who wouldn’t?

Wicked clown Sira, you don’t have to accept anything. You have forfeited your authority by your unconstitutional actions. It’s only a matter of time before you’re impeached. Then you will be thrown in jail for kickbacks and bribery. You dirty rascal, you have backstabbed 6.2 million Sri Lankans. You’ll never fall asleep at 10 pm ever again. In fact, you’ll stay awake all night haunted by the evil you have done to this country, develop insomnia and in the end eat shit and die like a deranged pariah dog.
[Well folks, it is not everyday that you come across a piece of work like this Sira that you can pour your heart out.]
