Sirisena Wants All World Leaders To “Emulate” Nelson Mandela But He Himself Wants Another Term

President Maithripala Sirisena, who used photographs of former South African leader Nelson Mandela in advertisements throughout his election campaign and promised a similar rule, yesterday called upon all world leaders to emulate Mandela.

However, Sirisena, over three and a half years into presidency, has earned severe criticism in his own country for backtracking on the election promises and moving away from the so-called ‘Mandela policies’.

“I wonder how many of the leaders have the qualities displayed by Nelson Mandela and I feel that it is for the leaders to emulate Mandela and enter the correct path (sic),” Sirisena said, Addressing the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit held on the sidelines of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly yesterday.

“Mandela was a leader who showed how to use power for the benefit of the people and give up power without any greed,” sirisena added.

The Plenary Session of the Mandela Peace Summit will also adopt a Political Declaration covering policing guidelines for a gamut of areas including peace, democracy, rule of law and human rights.

Sirisena made this statement just a week after he ordered the Police not to arrest his highest military commander, Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, over his alleged involvement in the abductions and killings of 11 youth.

Sirisena also promised not to seek re-election upon the completion of his first team. However, he has now made it clear that he will run for presidency again in 2020.

Despite his promises to step down from presidency after five years, Sirisena also unsuccessfully sought the opinion of the Supreme Court whether he could continue in office one extra year, until 2021.

This is just – making predictions before hatch the egg.

Anyways, we dont have good leaders in this country. Given that, we dont have any other choice either.

30 long year war made country a leaders deficiency state.
Rajaakshes proved that they are world champions to KILLING tactics and rabblerousing.

Even today the bugger Rajakashe has the audacity to call current govt to have done nothing against the drug peddelers, but

    the bugger himsself

promoted DRUG kin pins in his high days. Even his 3 bastard sons are not free from the involvment of drug trafficking.

RE: Sirisena Wants All World Leaders To “Emulate” Nelson Mandela But He Himself Wants Another Term.

Let’s give him a Term in Jail for being a Traitor, Sevalaya and Mala-Perethaya for the 6.2 million who voted for him, despite his dethroning MaRa MaRa Chatu MaRa, and protecting the crooks and killers.

Mandela never had avarice for power and the filthy lucre – he suffered in prison for 27 years, for his beliefs and principles.
A person like Sirisena mentioning his name, is sacrilege.

Why would a leader of Sri Lanka talk about Nelson Mandela when we have a our own hero and a role model Maha Ven Gnanasara. Sri Sena should promote Gnanasara

      Jim Softy

      I agree with you 100% .
Maha Ven Gnanasara is a true Buddhist and he practiced 100% what Lord Buddha wanted. If any one especially non Buddhist wanted to know what Buddha preached one can look at Ven Gnanasara Thera and see what he said and did and get the correct picture of the Buddha and Buddhism.

Ven Gnanasara is a role model of Buddha.

        .
With no sarcasm I state: Jim Softy and Gnanasara are the very antithesis of what the Buddha stood for.

Yes you are right. This is the only way we could hit the people hard who take cover under Buddha and people are scared to do anything to them. They adorn the robes not to live and practice his lords teachings but to for power and impunity for the crimes they do in the name of the Lord.

This is the only way to hit those people who are scared to take action against these culprits and criminals who adorn the robes to only safeguard themselves as a deterrent and the law enforcement agencies and politicians fall prey for these. This is a wakeup call.

I said something very serious. But nothing can happen to me because Gnanasara and Jim Softy and many others in powerful positions who support him is also protecting me!

How can these people who protect and support him tell I said something insulting!

          • 0
            0

“This is the only way we could hit the people hard..” this is definitely not Budhist way of living. If you are true Budhist you will know that that there is a great discrepancy in your way of living, speaking, and thinking and teachings of lord Budhaha

Ven Gnanasara is a role model of Buddha.

Majority of the world Buddhist monk are not saying that, Ven Gnanasara is a role model of Buddha. Nelson Mandela all knows him.

“world Buddhist monk are not saying that, Ven Gnanasara is a role model of Buddha.”

Then why is Maha Sangha silent? If Ven Gnanasara actions can harmful to the good image of Buddha, and if the Maha Sangha feels so they would have disowned this rogue monk as they are the custodian of Buddha dharma. But that did not happen. so we are to believe ‘ that is what Lord Buddha wanted the people to be and that is what Buddha dharma is about’. I am not wrong to think like that.

There is no other Leader in the world like our President Gamarala. First he took “Madu Walige” in to his hand. Again he took “Kaduwa”. Some time he used to sing in the Political stage. Some time he used to wear Nalson Mandela’s suit when it suits him. Some time he used to wear hangman’s cloth. Some time he is talking about “Balu Kaju” Some time apologize from the family who eats boiled “Murunga Kola” Again he says everybody except him responsible for this situation. He publicly says that CID, FCID and other Law enforcement Dept’s not filing cases against Rajapaksha “Ranaviru” killers. On the other hand he ordered 3 forces not to give any information Law enforcement officers needs to bring the culprits in to books. CID want’s a statement from CDS, Ravindra Wijegunaratna. Until today he is evading CID request. everybody knows our Local Nelson Mandela protecting him. Some time back he took “Milo” packet and said something not suitable to State head. He banned Asbestos and some chemical fertilizer in the Country. Now nobody knows what happens to those bans. Actually he is not suitable for this post. He is capable only for “Pora talks” Don’t forget that recently Sri Lanka celebrated 30th Independent day. haa…haaaaaa….

      Dear Lapatiya,
      .
I fully endorse all that you say, except, maybe, two sentences.
      .
I, too, voted for this man. I think that I did right, because the Rajapaksas were worse. However, now I am as disgusted with him as you.
      .
The “Milo packet” thing was all right. My3 is a good speaker, and his use of that packet made the point he was making clear. Too much sugar consumption is bad.
      .
I hope that you understand my next caveat. I cannot approve of your calling him “President Gamarala”. A “Gamarala” is the equivalent of the “yeoman” of England. He is the backbone of our nation. He produces the food that we eat. It is wrong to insult Gamaralas.
      .
It is also foolish. To replace him we need lots of rural Sinhala votes. My attitude towards minority groups? Please assess from my other comments. I am consistent.
      .
My3 has proved himself unworthy to lead our country. We must throw him out. Please see my other comments as well. We’ve got to devise a strategy.

        Sinhala_Man,
        Let me clear this
“Milo Packet” matter – Has he forgotten that he is the Executive President? Instead of taking “Milo Packet” to the Political stage he has many options to control sugar factor in Milo. There are some institutions established to protect consumers. he can use them without talking nonsense. Funny thing is his Daughter, Chathurika distributed Milo packets among school Children next day as reported in media.
I took Gamarala from his name. “Pallewatta Gamaralalage Maithreepala Yapa Sirisena” Ok I agree with you and “Cardboard Mandela” is more suitable for this uneducated, uncultured, uncivilized man.

    Dear president,

It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation – Create a character of your own first, test that character among locals if they will respect. I am ashamed that you went ahead and advised the other leaders to “Emulate Nelson Mandela”. Despite the fact many do respect Nelson Mandela, they won’t respect such an advice.

      .
Some people write sense; others write such nonsense that (although we glance at it momentarily to assess) we should not waste out thoughts on the rot that they write.
      .

This story is not truth. What the PResident has said, IF I am not suitable for the president post, if I am not fit for the weda balana amathi, IF I can not talk the truth or something that ake sense, Am I not for the man clearing spidernets in the presidential Palace. So vote me this time against on that ground. Ranil siad, even that I did not say anything because I am not the president. So Mahinda Rajapakse smiled on that when he heard it and he had said that will be elelction issue. I always say, if you two can not do it give it to me I myself and my son Namal will do it. but Maithripala says Amme Gota Kiwwa boruwa.den eh denna thamai enda hadanne.gota Says, No I separated from you because That Dath Dosthat Mahathaya says he wants to be the prime minister. As he gave all the bond scam profits to his children, He is going to sell all his boats, so the FCID will not call me again. Then Mahinda Rajapakse You can not sell those. I am also a part owner of those of those you know how bought those. This is a non ending story (God Paththini (an alias), god Vishnu and god NATHA).

My foot Sirisena’s Mandela, at his beginning he earned all our admirations and respects but now due to his stupidity and pig headed ness he lost all that. Now let him utter anything no one take note of it. He had a solid good standings but all lost, in ruins The best part is, he is not taking any effort to rebuild it. Main thing for this, he failed to associate with top caliber people but was with no two cents worth thradas, and lost the good reputation and nowadays, none give two hoots to him.

What a disgusting talk Siri! You shamelessly begged northern Tamils for votes but you wouldn’t implement the law on behalf of them by protecting your sweet ‘ranaviruwas’. If there is law in Sri Lanka and if it is equal to EVERYONE including presidents, prime ministers and the so-called ‘ranaviruwas’, better implement it. Lead Sri Lanka by example, without giving meaningless, empty talks.

I think this “PRESIDENT of Sri Lanka made a mistake in choosing between two speeches he intended to make. He mistakenly delivered the speech that was meant to be delivered at “HYDE PARK CORNER”, London, England, standing on a “SOAP BOX” . No wonder, the “CRONIES” who accompanied him also did not know which speech was the correct one, because they too are very much like the “Hyde Park Corner, Sunday Soapbox Orators”. NB: No offence meant on those “Soap Box Orators” at Hyde Park Corner.

“General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena organisation Venerable Galagodaththe Gnanasara thera, who is currently serving a prison sentence, has been admitted to the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital for a medical examination.

When inquired by NewsRadio a member of the organisation said the thera is due to undergo several medical examinations.

Gnanasara thera was transferred from the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital to the Welikada Prisons Hospital on the ninth of this month.”

Post Mandela South Africa is fast becoming a Zimbabwe. Robbery-Crime, rape and murder are far more than when Mandela was President. Parallel to Sri Lanka with far more drug related murders and rape under My3. My3 probably read something someone drafted for him verbatim like how Trump the dodo was in great pains to read his speech at the UN today and got laughed at. Most well off Indian origin South Africans are fleeing. Well off people are getting arms to protect themselves and have houses with automatic shutters and gates they lock at night to stop black gangs from attacking them. You cannot go out in JoBurg in many places at night. You can explain all this with centuries long inequities but violence is on the increase. Soon they will become stupid like Zimbabwe and confiscate highly productive agricultural land from white farmers and give it to black ghetto people who have no clue about farming. In 20 years South Africa will become Zimbabwe.

For goodness sake don’t refer to this noble man Nelson Mandela, you or any politician in Sri Lanka cannot hold a candle to him. Hearing your hypocritical utterances in these august assemblies he must be moving in his grave. You may play these gimmicks and tom foolery with your acolytes in SL . but not with well bred decent people from other countries. Please help to respect the noble teachings of Lord Buddha that is the only way you could contribute to Buddhism in SL. We are constrained to make these observations when we hear about the conduct of SL politicians and others appointed to foreign service some of who are an utter disgrace to our country. Any way ‘may the triple gem bless you’ and may you attain “Nirvana”

Don’t readers think that this is an international publicity stunt? I don’t think its worth talking about the man’s nature or what he says. If we are to give meaning to the “Rainbow Revolution” of Jan 8, 2015, then it is very important that media must use all its energies to drive some sense into this YG (Yahapalana Government) not to alienate the people and do something sensible. Do something to control the damage evident by the local government elections and in the process DO NOT perform some dirty tricks because that only alienates people further.

Neither Gnana nor Silly emulate Mandela, but all worship the terrorists of GMOA who want to grab govt. with violence and lawlessness. GMOA crept into SLMC to govern, but got confused by governmental law and order. SAITM MBBS holders were there long before Karl Marx/GMOA shriek which frightened the leader and absorbed SAITM students into KDU. Though the KDU amendment took in students, they have no legal provision to absorb MBBS doctors who already had a C/A court verdict, now confirmed by Supreme court to go into internship through SLMC registration. Whats the problem. SLMC has to register SAITM MBBS who existed before KDU amendment and SLMC has to register all who come to them with a KDU MBBS after the amendment. GMOA has no authority except to threaten the ever changing Exec. Prez. The Law stands firm.

It’s great insult/betrayal to Nelson Mandela what Sirisena has promised when sought election and done subsequently. Nelson Mandela fought apartheid of white rule against black people. Mandela was incarcerated in prison for 18 long years whereas Sira enjoyed all perks under Rajapakse misrule. Mandela single handedly won Presidential election with over 80 pct support of eligible votes whereas Sira scraped through with the support of joint opposition led by UNF. Sira was supposed to relinquish all executive powers within six months but all he did was opting for five years instead of six. Then he wanted to see if he can take back what was ceded. Nelson Mandela with overwhelming popularity in South Africa did not go for a 2nd term but opted in favour of Thabo Mbeki his deputy. In Srilanka, executive presidents never like to lose the power. That’s the difference in South Africa and Srilanka. Sira made a mockery of his speech at United Nations.
