Sirisena’s Casual Remarks On Bribing MPs In Parliament Sets Off Firestorm On Social Media

President Maithripala Sirisena, in a shocking revelation, said former President Mahinda Rajapaksa could not show a majority in Parliament as the prices of MPs “shot up” surprisingly.

“Some MPs even asked for Rs.500 million to cross over. I personally know about such situations. It was like calling for tenders. That is why Mahinda Rajapaksa could not show a majority in Parliament, ” Sirisena said in an interview with Daily Mirror.

Sirisena’s brazen remarks have set off a firestorm on social media as this is a first time a President of the country had openly made casual remarks about horse-trading MPs in Parliament. Many claimed that citizens should lodge complaints with the Bribery Commission calling for action on Sirisena for not disclosing the information on bribing MPs.

There is saying that it is better to keep your mouth shut and be considered an idiot than to open it and prove that beyond any doubt!
    .
Sirisena – you are a prime exampl! I used to think DJ was the best, but you have out done him magnificently!!

      President Sirisena,

Thank you for your remark. This exposes the Fake PM, Mahinda Rajapaksa, and the MP’s who have no principles, who can be bought and sold.

The MPs should tight, and keep raising the price until MaRa can’r afford it, and the Chinese will not advance any more money.

You are the President of a country, A Land Like No Other, who contravenes the Constitution,.

Hot news from DM just now.

“A woman named Thakshila Lakmali Jayawardena filed a writ petition in the Court of Appeal (CA) today seeking an order directing the IGP to go to the District Courts to inquire into the state of mind of President Maithripala Sirisena.

Ms. Jayawardena filed the writ petition seeking the CA to issue a mandate in the nature of a writ of Mandamus against Fort Police Head Quarters OIC and the IGP directing them to institute judicial proceedings in District Courts by virtue of section II of the Mental Diseases Ordinance for the purpose of inquiring state of mind of President Sirisena”.

This creepy, buffoonish President is one of a kind. He is determined to destroy himself before the eyes of the world. It would be great entertainment if the ship of state is not on his hands. Clearly this man is having a meltdown. He needs to be hospitalized immediately before he wreaks havoc on the nation.

Ajay, “Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad”, says it all!!

The man is in dire need of a strait jacket and maybe shock treatment as well!

Whether bribing was successful or not should not be at issue. Bribing, taking a bribe or soliciting a bribe is a crime. So why is this not investigated and those guilty being charged?

    • 24
      0

Exactly, that was my first thought too. It is a shame. Thanks to MS Sri Lanka has proofed to be the number one source for a perfect comedy. The rest of the world is laughing. So sad. Sirisena will definitely go down in history as the most idiotic president ever.

Whether it is a crime or not, would depend on the readiness and willingness of President MaRu Sira to testify in court proceedings is it not?
Before that happens who has the temerity to investigate and frame charges against those who offered or solicited the said bribes in a unique country like our SL which clamps up every full moon day anyway?

    • 6

Agreed 100%. There should be another comittee to investigate bribe taking.

Hard to believe, 500 million, I thought these persons would switch sides for a few dollars.

These MPs have been voted (some appointed by party leaders) by the Sri Lankan idiotic voters.
Get rid of the whole lot.
Why should the children of politicians automatically become the chosen politicians. This is the case with every party.
Remember, these politicians had nothing when they took to politics.
I remember the time budding MPs depended on public servants for car lifts (simply because they had no cars).
Now MPs demand Rs 500 millions (choosing whom to support)
    Young voters – wake up.
It is your future and your country.

If none of this had happened six weeks ago and the world moved at its slow pace, MR would have had a landslide victory in 2020 (or whenever the next parliamentary election was due). That is how incompetent the Yahapalanaya government was. The slight edge they had from minority votes would also have disappeared because there would have been tens of Tamil parties contesting. Every Tomman, Dickan and Harryan are forming their own party in the North, I am told. So, by this somersault, Sirisena has done us all a favour and exposed what MR was all about: bribing for cross over, thuggery in parliament etc. There are those I know who cheered MR (and GR) for thrashing the Tamils and building pavements in Colombo who are now utterly embarrassed. So we should thank Sirisena for this achievement.
    .
But then, democracy is a numbers game. Those who dislike the present situation, unfortunately, are smaller in number than those who cheered Sirisena’s homophobic comments on stage. That is what will define our future.

Don’t blame this village gamaya rascal for that comment. He made that comment because the Lankan parliament is filled with bribe taking goons and he is simply stating the obvious.

Even the Ponies in Mannar would tell you our MPs in Kotte love Santhosams.
109, I thought was the magic figure in that Report.
Then it went up to 122 officially..
They now know the market rate after receiving at least One Mil each from Aloysious.

One thing this Dr Ranil’s Yahapalanaya has done is increasing the market value through “Mahendra and Paskaralingam” Models of good Economic Management and Investments.
And the subsequent good mega deals done by his Ministers.

Airbus A350 netted 20 odd Million in Commissions.
Central Expressway deal even forced the Japanese Brokers to get free rides in Black Maria’s in Tokyo..
Buying Yahapalana Drugs , MRI Machines, and God knows what other deals would have netted what or how much?.

Some of these dudes need a good retirement income to maintain their gut busting life style
With the Ruppiah hitting double figures, they need a lot to buy Greenbacks to invest in Vanguard.
So 500 Million in fact is not a bad price.

After the Elections, these dudes won’t have those Limousines, Body Guards and Free Apartments and that special allowance of LKR 100 thou a Month Bonus which Dr Ranil introduced.
Some even can’t go to their villages this time let alone fooling their Electors….

So unless they are in Elite, Anglican. Vellala Electorates with High Net Worth individuals, there is Buckleys that they will be able to access this sort of Dosh ever again. … .

    But then who knows
Dr Ranil may become the President ..

      Sumaney:
Why do you refer to the donkeys in Mannar as “ponies?” Is is because one or all of them will (legitimately) refer to you as a blood relation?

        2

        Mr Poorten.
        Pony sounds better than Donkey,
I think you should geta couple to keep the grass down in your Estate, instead of using Gyphosate….

Anyway , Dr Mervyn now says he will contest as a UNP Candidate in any Electorate which Dr Ranil allocates.
        How blessed are you lot..

Do you have any intentions nominating for Holgolla.?..
Because my Elders tell me our Burghers are the only minority community which hasn’t got a seat in Dr Ranil’s Rainbow Coalition….
500 Mil is worth giving a try mate….

Bribing and being bribed are both daily occurrences in South Asia. If MPs take bribes to switch sides what is the use of having a parliament with such members.
The former US government (not the current one) spent about $480 million just for regime change in 3 countries. What is it called.
If we need to stop MP bribing the Constitution can easily do it. If a MP wants to switch side he or she should face an election. That is it. Then the frogs will stop jumping.

Mahinda Lost two members. One is in both camps and in one morning he is Mahinda and the afternoon he is with the Ranil. The other, who is the relative of D.R> Nanayakkara and the owner of the HEMAS building in colombo got money from Arjun Mahendran. On the other hand, Range Bandara says his price Rs 500 million. that is why things went wrong. Otherwise, how did Ranil won his No confidence vote. Otherwise, How Dayasiri Jayasekara who got Bond Scam money moved to Divulapitiya and now he is building a Daham Pasala building for a pansala spending RS 100 LAKHS or million in KAtupotha. I know nothing ravi, mangala ALL GOT FOREIGN MONEY TO do other work.

It is his cohorts who did all this.. still he blames others. We have not seen a cheat like him.. A good lesson for Sri Lankan not to appoint an uncultured crook into a high post.

they are asking for 500 million now because mahinda gave athanayaka 500 million to cross over.He was prepared to pay that amount because he said if they took his general secretary(sirisena) he will somehow take the UNP general secretary.Athanayaka now is not worried about politics.he has made enough money with one shot.Knowing mahinda was an idiot who created the athanayaka precedent due to his ego,now others are trying the same stunt with him.

To stop this madness in the new constitution it must be clearly spelt that nobody can crossover.

What will surprise many is why the “Santhosam” racket of the Rajapakse Brothers failed to rope in sufficient crooked MPs.
Aiyo Sira depended on MR to deliver the goods. The failure is
because the huge sums per MP involved (let us say Rs.500
million) was “promised” by the Rajapakses. A portion of it may have been cold cash in advance. But the faith in the Rajapakses is so
much in question most of these crooked MPs refused to cross over
until the goods IN TOTAL was delivered. Rajapakses and the hundreds of their close cronies in the business world failed to show up with the cash. The entire crooked project collapsed.

Did the Chinese conclude the asking sum for each crooked MP was too much?

If Sirisena, the Rajapakse family and their boot-lickers read the pronouncement of senior lawyer and lecturer Nihal Jayawickrema in the media today, they are in trouble. NJ proves in each para why
the Sirisena-Rajapakse project in Courts will fail – with the question
“Why didn’t they (legal advisers to both) tell them?”

“Mindful amongst the negligent, highly vigilant amongst the drowsy, the wise man advances like a race horse, leaving the jade behind.”

“The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them; the cords of their sins hold them fast. For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly.”

The two verses from the Dhammapada and chapter Proverbs in the bible, clearly explains the situation.

Sad part is foolish won’t understand the disaster closing in because they have found momentary bliss and can’t take their eyes of it.

Well you lot might not want to hearthe President’s tal;k, but it is perfectly right thing to do. Truth is bitter to swallow? This is the primary reason that no PM or MP could be trusted in this country. The parliament is a market place for cattle, and they could change hands depending on who paiys the highest price. Unlike the cattle that belong to some farmers these MP oxon set their own price, and they have no loyalties. If MR could not pay the right price, then that means RW and Co have paid the right price to keep the cattle herded to the green corner, as they say the grass is greener in that part of the meadow, given this Bond Scam corner have a lot more fodder. Even the TNA, Muslim, JVP and JHU cattle have found the Bond Scam fodder much more attractive, tasty and financially lucrative than the Mr 10 per cent fodder. The upshot of all this is that parliament cattle market is not the right place or the right kind of sane house for patriotic MPs to whom we could delegate the important task of safeguarding democracy and the sovereignity of the nation, and its wealth. That is why the President has decided to send all these cattle to the abattoir that they fully deserve and give the people the responsibility of taking a decision on saving the nation.

Aiyo! Sira! You were a part of that neoliberal rightist capitalism which you now despise as undesirable to the country. Naturally the price is determined by the supply and demand and so would it be if it were to perpetuate your style of doing things. Now you complain that the price is high. If you started this, you should have foot the bill instead of complaining it that the price is high. You cannot deny that you were a part of the MP-buying process. Guys like you have something to say. For God’s Sake keep the dignity of office you are holding after all guarding your mouth for another one more year cannot be that difficult.

Billion Rs. question 1. What was the price paid for PM post and denying the six feet underground story?

    2. What was the amount paid for dissolving Parliment in 2015 and calling for elections
when the Dinash Gunawardena Report on the first Bond Scam was to be published?
President can’t claim that he was unaware of the scam.

I think this President and the others should be jailed for life for what they are doing. Treating SL as their personal property. Everything they have done is unconstitutional and more than that just unethical. Have taken our country for ransom. We have lost billions as a result and more than that we have become the laughing stock of rest of the world. Im sure we now have enough evidence to put all these rogues in jail fr life including the president. .. no one can be above the law …

Unconfirmed reports of the horse trading market has been around for quite a while. MS, in an unguarded moment, has let the cat out. Now it is confirmed. The open brazenness of the SB Dissanayake ilk are shocking.

It was when I was young man in my high school years of my didactic time. K. Balachandar was controversial director that time. Arangetram Tamil Movie came out of his direction. My friends filmily were a forward moving and went to see that movie as whole family. But still they all went back home their mouth shut on the movie’s scenes. The other idealistic young man described me next day a scene in the movie, it was bothering him from the time he saw it. Portrayal of his message through the open fissures in human’s feeling is the art of K. Balachandar. There was a sari malfunctioning in the movie. Prameela’s sari was slipping in an occasion. Family rushed to cover her. But she brushed it off and said something like “don’t care”. The star member of the family’s behavior hurt them all. That time they didn’t know her life, but they adored her and revered her and elevated her on any opportunity. My friend quoted me a saying in Tamil “ அற நனைந்தால் குளிர் என்ன கூதல் என்ன?” If wet to soak, then what is the difference between cold and chill? My friend said Prameela had wet beyond healable state. That was a secret, sadly only to her family. With the abundant wealth Prameela earned, a grand scale wedding was arranged for her sister with gentle man. But he was a regular client of Prameela. She was singing that song “Could I tell all story of the bridegroom”. “Maapillai ragasiyam sollavaa naan sollava”.
There is nothing more to get wet with Lankawe politicians. Their shame is not underneath their Dhoti. Unfortunately, Sinhala Buddhist Politicians’ shame is on their face. They don’t wear a niqab to cover it.
