“Investigation may be likened to the long months of pregnancy, and solving a problem to the day of birth. To investigate a problem is, indeed, to solve it.” ~ Mao Zedong
Six Ministers of the National People’s Power government being subjected vigorous and aggressive investigation and being treated as any other common wrong-doer is a noteworthy step forward for a small country whose topnotch politicians were running riot a couple of decades ago. Allegations can be made against any power-holder. But proof of such wrongs being committed by any person in white-collar crimes does not need to be shown beyond a reasonable doubt..

Screenshot
Legal pundits would pen the situation in a more concise and clear way as follows: ‘White-collar crimes often involve intricate financial schemes, making the establishment of intent (mens rea) difficult, requiring prosecutors to rely heavily on circumstantial evidence like financial documents and emails, rather than direct eyewitness testimony, to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.’
Elasticity of the law, in fact, lends the accusing party much more leeway than in raw criminal cases. The six Ministers have to be more careful, not only in the defense of their position, but also in the very optics that the allegations that have been created. By holding its own Ministers accountable and compelling them to be transparent in the management of their own financial activities, the NPP-led government has thrown a very decisive governance formula in the air. Where and when it starts falling as to who will be under the barrage of allegations of bribery and dishonesty would be another spectacle which would capture the imagination of many a critic and opponent of the NPP and its own methodology of running an efficient and incorrupt government.
By initiating legal inquiry into the alleged corruption charges, the government has placed the former accusers in the ‘accused’ seats. Ever since Ceylon gained Independence, many a government politician has come into limelight for wrong reasons such as bribery, outright dishonesty and blatant corruption that is usually associated with nepotism. Crowding their own Ministries with their own kith and kin may create a temporary shelter from transparency, yet when the the magnitude of the sums involved become enormous and the very ease with which these corrupt practices could be performed by the those who are being alleged, the most disciplined of politicians could become incredibly careless and sloppy.
However, if the charges are serious and the ‘intent’ could be proven, these politicians can be in grave danger of being painted with the same brush the Rajapaksas, Wickremesinghes and Rambukwellas have been tarnished with. Corruption is not an ailment that can be cured with one advice or two. The luxuries and comforts that corruption bring along to the practitioner and his family and friends could assume epidemic proportions. It spreads and controls the one that is infected; and the victimized could be sick with horrendous after-effects which alone could end up being a carrier of the same cancerous cells; its metastasizing nature shall kill the patient. What could have been brought under control by timely diagnosis and treatment has become an epidemic. The whole community could be in danger, in certain instances ending up with the total destruction of families and close circles of friends.
On December 30, Daily Mirror reported thus: ‘Probe launched against Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Minister Bimal Ratnayake, Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe, Minister Kumara Jayakody, Minister Sunil Handuneththi, Deputy Minister Sunil Watagala. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has initiated a probe under the Money Laundering Act. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption have initiated an investigation into the alleged assets of six ministers of the current NPP government under the Money Laundering Act, according to a letter from it. According to a copy of the letter which the Daily Mirror has seen, an investigation was launched following a formal complaint submitted to the Commission by Jamuni Kamantha Thushara, Chairman of the Organization Citizens’ Power against Corruption and Waste. It was reported that Thushara submitted a complaint to the Bribery Commission on September 16, 2025, urging the Commission to launch an investigation into the alleged assets of five Cabinet ministers and one Deputy Minister under the Money Laundering Act.
Accordingly, the Commission informed the Chairman of Citizens’ Power Against Corruption and Waste that the Illegal Assets Division of the Commission has decided to initiate investigations against Minister of Health and Mass Media and Chief Government Whip Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation and Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayake, Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe, Minister of Energy Kumara Jayakody, Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handuneththi, and Deputy Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Attorney Sunil Watagala.
In a reply letter dated December 17, the Chairman was informed to appear before the Bribery Commission to record a statement to further clarify the facts regarding the complaint. Accordingly, under Section 49(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 9 of 2023, the Commission has requested him to appear before the Commission at 9.00 am. today, along with relevant documents, to provide the statement. Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody is already under investigation by the Bribery Commission in connection with alleged corruption involving the misappropriation of funds while serving at the Fertilizer Corporation in 2015.
This investigation is in addition to the ongoing probe in which the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has decided to institute legal action against Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody over corruption complaints related to the same matter. That investigation was initiated following a complaint lodged by Sanka Chandima Abeywardena, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Haritha Sangvidhanaya (Green Organization). In September this year, the Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) has also lodged a complaint with the Bribery Commission regarding the assets of Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe. Meanwhile, attempts by the Daily Mirror to contact the ministers concerned were unsuccessful.’
Once again the NPP-led government has displayed its principal weakness: failure to be a cohesive government with a credible group of politicians whose credentials would stand the test of voter’s verdict without suspicion and second-guessing. Only President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is held as a credible leader; he is obviously held in high esteem. But our government is not a one-man show and it should never be so. Even a small city or village council cannot be run by one single man. Democracy does not exist in solitary isolation of a safe cell of a meeting hall. Democracy starts with an election but it does not end with elections.
Democracy is an organism that needs to be nurtured, nursed and sustained by robust participation of each stakeholder. If the stakeholders’ credentials are being subjected to critical inquiry and objective investigation by a non-administration entity such as the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, the people at large would be interested in the findings and punishments, if any, after the investigations are concluded.
The stakes are indeed quite high and crucial. Potential gains or losses for all parties are substantial. What may eventually entail might be minimal and all those who have been charged may end up winners with no corrupt practices committed and their personal wealth and other assets well accounted for and their personal honesty assured. But that is passing judgment before even a hearing. But possibilities are not infinite. They are limited. Either they are found responsible for their own negligent or purposeful practices of corruption or they are partially responsible for certain violations of ethics code or outright not guilty of any practices of financial dishonesty.
But what stands out in this whole drama is the government’s position on the subject it’s Ministers and their personal finances and public accountability. AKD and his NPP are indeed succeeding where the Rajapaksas and Wickremesinghes have failed. Aragalaya-22 proved that our people cannot be taken for granted any more. Now they must hold their own government to account for each and every act of their Ministers and parliamentarians.
However, any delay or clumsiness displayed by the administration in the conduct of these investigations and their eventual findings or any intervention on behalf any of the alleged parties should be most harshly dealt with by all those who are watching the drama; they would be disappointed if any of these deficiencies occur.
The NPP members led by President Dissanayake cannot get away with any of the shortcomings that they accused their predecessors were guilty of. Criticism is so easy and it comes effortlessly when they occupied the Opposition benches. They are no more the Opposition; they are the administration and they must be held to the same standards that they held their opponents to. Let’s see if they are worthy of the standards that they pronounced and to which they held the Rajapaksas and Wickremesinghes.

This is the government that has opened an ivestigation into a pistol that has been handed over to the security dept. decades ago, but choses to arrest Douglas Devananda. What about all the weapons stolen by the JVP? Mr. Tilvan Silva and even AKD should know about them. During the election AKD said that he has files that are enough to put all the Rajapaksas and Wickermasinghes in Jail. It couldnt have been Ranil’s trip to UK for his wofe’s honarary Doctorate? As for the investigation of the six ministers, this is the right step to take, to wihitewash them, and attempt also earn points saying, we treat everyone the same way. Not really. The police run out of breathalyers when one of the NPP MPs are lleged to have driven while drunk?Vishwamithra spells his pseudonym with a “w” in Vishva – so he is unlkely to be from Jaffna. Is he an old Colombo 4th international man ghosting over the NPP with a bit of Marxist glue in his eyes?

Dear Readers,
I do not believe foreign invasions are a distant possibility for our nation.
Current administration in SL is thought to be far weaker than it appeared to be. Today, after listening to Premier’s press conference, it became clear that she does not feel compelled to seek public pardon for the bigger error made by her officials, with or without her knowledge.

Why do I get the feeling that this is all a whitewash? My money is on the accused NPP MPs being free of all charges after an ‘extensive’ investigations & will be shown as whiter than white to rebuild their reputations.
Anyway, whatever the outcome of the charge brought against the NPP MPs, why is the govt., which pledged to bring all those who plundered the country to justice & recover the stolen loot, seem to be back peddling when it comes to the big sharks like the Rajapakses & their cronies, Cabral, Tiran Alles, etc.? The NPP had no credible plan or strategy for an economic recovery or a sustainable restructuring of the social services, transport, healthcare & education systems The only face saving action for the NPP would be to hold those responsible for the destruction accountable but it seems AKD doesn’t want to mess with rabid dogs & wants to deflect away failings to highlight the anti corruption stance among their own with ‘transparency’.

Leela ” not a distant possibility” ?
What does that mean ?
/
leelagemalli / January 8, 2026
Truthie,
In the context of one country invading another, “not a distant possibility” means:
–
A realistic, credible risk that could happen in the foreseeable future.
–
What “not a distant possibility” implies
–
When analysts or officials say an invasion is not a distant possibility, they usually mean:
–
The risk is serious and non-trivial
–
It is plausible, not hypothetical
–
It could occur in the near to medium term
Conditions already exist that could enable it

Repoting alleged corruption of any minister of the NPP goverment is always a healthy feature in a democracy. Personally I have great trust in President AKD as well as the bribery commissioner to ensure his administration is corruption free, and anybody found guilty will be treated same way as any other.
Having said that one must be concious of the fact that the defeated and desperate opposition parties will do whatever they can do smear the AKD administration. Even a mere complaint to the bribery commision is likely to create a bad taste in some peoples’ mind.

The predicament of AKD’s pragmatic politics is analogous to that of an undergraduate who has set his sights on being a Nobel laureate in his field but has unfortunately failed to complete the basic degree, so what about dreaming big?
–
AKD and his senior ministers have done little to distinguish themselves from previous ministers and leaders in the country. Even AKD and PM’s performances were considerably lower than those of previous leaders. I don’t think AKD is clean since he previously appointed an unclean person to be near him, and some of his actions are also quite corrupt.

“…AKD & Co. don’t seem to be delivering as expected….”??
I challenge you to show us a “better 15 months” in Sri Lanka during the last five decades! Here is a snippet!
1. A completely different political culture – worshiping and bribing politicians has come to a zero point from almighty ‘maharaja’ and his henchmen worship culture, and also the elimination of ‘white van’ culture!
2. National Unity – Removal of unnecessary military checkpoints and roadblocks, better handling of sensitive events such as ‘mahaviru’ commemorations, vast majority of politicians not worshipping racist Buddhist priests
3. Eliminating Presidential and ministerial Perks, smallest cabinet since 1977: Cutting armed personnel and other staff allocations to ex and current Presidents and ministers have saved billions already!
4. Anti-Corruption as a core Value of the government: Just compare the previous bribe demanding politicians with this lot – there is none! Crime Act No. 5 of 2025, National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (2025–2029), Clean Sri Lanka Program and also merit-based appointments: These are all bold steps for a systemic restructuring of our public sector.
5. Genuine (not fake) mass scale raids and arrests of narcotics and their owner operators. Land, sea and air based surveillances to track vehicles/vessels has never been so intensive!
6. Nationwide digitalization programme, Digital Case-File Tracking (Anti-Bribery), E-Grama Niladhari Platform etc., Govpay completed 2b transactions in last Dec alone!

Dear Readers,
.
In a reform-oriented government, especially after 15 months, people usually expect at least some of the following:
–
New laws or amendments
–
Institutional restructuring
–
Clear policy shifts codified in law
–
Transparent timelines for reforms
–
If none or very few of these exist, then public skepticism is reasonable.
–
In democratic terms, laws matter more than speeches, because:
–
Speeches disappear
–
Laws remain
–
Laws constrain power (including the leader’s own power)

Hello OC and SJ,
I have pondered the reasons that we don’t see any improvement in the Economic conditions here in the Provinces. I remember the 1950s and 60s in the UK as a period when our own circumstances improved. We went from “Austerity Britain” to the so called booming 60s. That’s part of the reason we were called the “Baby Boomers”.
“Twenty-five years of strong growth after the Second World War reduced public debt from 238 per cent to 50 per cent of GDP. Growth, not cuts, reduced a similar deficit in 1977-78 when the second year of cuts was contingent upon robust economic expansion”.
As Alec Cairncross said in his book “Years of Recovery” “The United Kingdom ended the war with the largest external debt in history”
Social Housing, Road Building, Nationalisation and the Welfare State all contributed to the increase in prosperity, however it was the US Marshall Plan ($13 Billion for European Countries) that provided the kick-start. The UK finally paid off the debt ($3.75 billion loan, plus interest) on 29/12/2006.
The IMF loan is peanuts in comparison.
So which Government Economist is going to show us the path to Growth?
Best regards
/

100 billion LKR
100 billion USD (= 300 x 100 = 30 000 Billion LKR)
They don’t give a damn about the facts, and instead become bashful. This is the nature of the Sri Lankan people. That is in their genetics.
Can you picture REAL THAKKADIYA aka Tilvin Silva telling the country that in the event of a currency shortage in his future government, he will be able to collect 1-2 billion USD a month from their followers in Europe and America?
However, not even 5% of the funds to compensate the damage caused by the recent flood have been received. Lying is their only talent, from AKD to everyone else, as long as the same foolish people realize they are merely lying.

People have given the chance you asked not only for President but also for a team of 159. I don’t know what was the reason the people gave AKD this chance but in my opinion people are frustrated by the previous leaders and their policies. As a Tamil speaking Sri Lankan my expectation that he will create a country peaceful and every citizen of this land is equal and he will change a system where there is no one, no one race or no one language or no religion is above the law. However, AKD is losing my trust after one year because his actions are different to my expectation, particularly about his treatment of Tamil speaking people is different from Sinhalese speaking people.

People voted to choose a group of people who were then idle in village culverts. Nalin Hewage, Saman Vidyaratna, Namal Karunaratne, Handunetti, and others are outstanding examples of how poorly they perform in their current ministries.
–
Some people make a huge deal about it even if the road pothole is filled, as if they have accomplished something significant in their lives. Former leaders never did it, even when they built the southern highway and other physical constructions that cost millions of dollars. People in certain areas roll their eyes, indicating that they are perplexed by the lack of astonishment. The majority of them are incapable of addressing minor concerns, let alone performing miracles. People’s sensitivity to deception is genetically set.
–
Today, I heard foreign minister Vijitha Herath tell the media that the JVP may hold different opinions than the current government, as if they were not part of the ruling party. People are purposefully confused now, as seen by their reaction to the invasion of Venesula, which is diametrically opposed to their own emotions previous to being elected rulers. Vijitha Herath and the other JVP leaders are either not paying attention or seeking for thoughts, while Venzula is on fire as a result of the American invasion. How hypocritical the JEPPOS are. They don’t have an identity. And they are currently experiencing an identity crisis.

But the reality is that the Good-governance government’s first three months (100 days) were far more effective than the 15 months of AKD BURAMPI, during which nothing was accomplished except to sow enmity in large quantities. RW and his tiny cabinet provided AKD with a well-organized government. However, not even 0.2 billion were earned to the country’s reserves, despite the fact that RW’s interim government increased them from 20 million to 6200 million USD during their 26-month tenure. –
Why on earth should we further be occupied with the Rajapakshes when we properly know MaRa, his associates, his siblings, and offsprings ruined the lanken economy?

What additional skills do Lester and Truthie have besides self-manipulating the “thumb machine”? Who do they believe is misleading here?
Nothing will change in KALATHONIE-land for the better as long as creatures in human disguise make up the majority. I used to adore them, but now I think I should work for AFRICA in my future retirement.

“Was I referring to our migrant workers ?”
–
You, the cameflougue, recently worked as a royal shoe/wash room polisher/cleaner in London.
Who are you if you’re not a migrant?
Expecting us to believe that you were summoned by the royal family to speak on their behalf?
My foot! You fools, for whatever reason, continue to live that miserable way until the day you die.
You will always be a mental case because of your arrogance.
–
Your nasty pen has humiliated everyone in this room.

I agree with what “ The Truth “ is saying. We can’t lose our HOPE for the best being done by AKD’s NPP.
We need to give more time for the “L” board drivers ( Ministers).
The country is full of evil doers (ED) who are waiting to bring down the Government that is trying to bring those who were behind various nefarious activities. ED come in different forms—previous RULERS/ clergies/ Security Forces of previous governments/Professionals. Some of them (EDs) are still around and active.
This is why the underworld operated by previous rulers were able to kill an accused inside the court house. Hence we need to provide foolproof protection for AKD. Let us have more patience with NPP.

Readers,
They came to set records. They do, however, break the records of former offenders. Schoolchildren continue to investigate because they are unable to detect such deception. They loudly question why the head of state continues to lie. Shamelessness is overpowering.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iL9m8h9Z7ak
Wasantha Samarasinghe’s wealth should be made public because these individuals fooled the ignorant audience so much that they voted for their lies, which made them look greater than they were.
And it is illegal to boost their collection by seizing MPs’ legal salaries. Legal professionals should address this issue, but the practice continues to this day. What are our legal professionals up against? They simply spend their lives as if they were Amazonian sloths. Lethargic like never before.

According to the complainant, Jamuni Kamantha Kumara, the Chairman of the Organization of Citizens Power against Corruption and Waste, the complaint was based on the ‘Assets Declarations’ made by the six Ministers and published on the website of the CIABC. The details of the assets are legally declared, and anyone has the right to question how they have come to own the assets. Well done, J.K.Kumara.
This is the ‘NEWLY’ established ‘Rule Change’. No one is ‘Above the Law’.
I take this opportunity to thank the previous Minister of Justice, Wijedasa Rajapakse, in Ranil Wickremesinghe’s Government, for introducing this new Bribery Act in terms of which the CIABC has been provided with all the ‘Teeth’ to bite the culprits.
Another most precious ‘Bench Mark’ to establish in this case is that these Ministers and all others who have declared assets are now liable to be questioned on any ‘Additional’ assets they would own after this declaration.

How can any wealth acquired before they came into power ( when the JVP had only 3 MPs) be public corruption ?
Any individual is free to invest and make money.
If you say their ideology says they should all become poor or aim for financial ruin ,maybe you have misread the ideology.
Anyway that is a matter for the JVP followers , not a matter for bitter old men taking refuge in Western countries after their heinous project failed in little Sri Lanka
However I don’t know whether the corrupting businessmen like Aloysious and Selvanayagam anticipated that one day the 3 MP party would come to power with 2/3 majority and bribed them well in advance .
According to various jokers (Leela) on this forum, anything is possible

Ms. Truthie, please wake up and concentrate on the question. We all know that the sex industry in Europe has made you and Dolly Buster quite wealthy. However, you have wrecked your health in the meanwhile, much like pornostars in European metropolises have.
–
The question here is how much riches they gained during that time span through their covert enterprises. They were merely protesting and had no record of running any large enterprises that earned (27 x 100 lacking of LKR) throughout that time. Another question is how he was allowed to deal with CRIPTO currency, which is illegal under Lankan legislation.
If all of these questions are addressed in the manner that SRILANKEN police behaved with previous SPEAKER RANWALA, it will demonstrate the level of transparency, equality, law and order to all equally, or similar high virtues under Thambuthegama buramphi in the coming days.

The Truth: Please read my comment again. In the last line, I said, any assets they acquired ‘After’ could be questioned. When it is questioned, they could always justify the ‘Additions,’ giving the reasons such as ‘ Investments’ and ‘Profits’ in legal businesses.
I never say that people shouldn’t do business. Anyone is FREE to engage in any legal business and all other means of acquisition of assets by way of practicing their skills. This equally applies to JVP/NPP and all other politicians. But all such activities must conform to legal requirements. If the acquisitions are ‘illegal’ and acquired through corruption, robery etc., such activities must be dealt seriously.

Douglas ,
The day the JVP decided to contest for Parliament ,
was the day they Entered The System They Hated .
That is what they are doing now . Whatever they do
successfully , it goes to the bag of old system as it is
not coming through the system they learned or
believed . They are married to JVP and without going
for a divorce , Now living with another wife called NPP .
They eat from JVP and sleeps with NPP . ” Deyyo Sakki .”

“….If the acquisitions are ‘illegal’ and acquired through corruption, robery etc., such activities must be dealt seriously….”
Douglas, they are not such fools to rob public wealth as others did in the past because the political culture they were groomed to run the country had been completely different to that of others. It is only the opposition and the Youtubers are hellbent to paint a different picture.
/
Douglas / January 8, 2026
Jit: Agreed in toto. If they (NPP/JVP) do, that will write their history.
Whatever assets they have declared are not definitely acquired through ‘Corruption’ and ‘Robbery.’ That is certain. However, once that investigation is completed, we will know how they came to own such assets. I don’t think a single one of them would have spotted a ‘Manik Malla’ (the Desi Achchi’s narrative) when they opened the front door in the morning.
Those ‘YouTubers’ are a ‘Hired Brigade’ and don’t you find their ‘Parrots’ in this forum?

“……not a matter for bitter old men taking refuge in

Dithwah destruction? 2011-2013 , when trade deficit
was around US$ 9 billion , Exports did badly , who
contributed to mitigate balance of payment ? It was
workers’ remittance that offset about 70% of trade
deficit . Before elections , it is the West AKD went

WW,
please don’t waste your attention on a man or woman (previously known as Deepthi, now revealed to be THE TRUTH) who has never said anything worthwhile. This character believes that we are all idiots, much like the 6.8 million voters who believed that the strong language of a past rebellion would usher in a time when we could likewise be led by law and order and other values of a developed nation. However, the issue is that our people’s general way of thinking prevents them from progressing past a certain point. They are unable to just think logically. They are that way from birth. destined for evil instead of the other way around.

Dear critical thinkers,
–
Are there any new legislation or changes aimed at improving law and order in the past 15 months?
–
What hinders curentJustice Minister’s ability/2/3 parliamentary mandate to expedite the process?
–
We closely observe that they continue to speak at length and brag about their accomplishments; why can’t we see any distinguishable moves taken by the AKD leadership today?
–
Some European visitors with their children ( incl. tweens, teenagers and infants) who visit the nation on a regular basis ask me why the new government isn’t enacting new road safety legislation to control aggressive and irresponsible driving. Some visitors believe that lanken public bus drivers are actual high criminals.
I can read their thinking since I’ve lived in Europe for a long time.

Dear Readers,
I suddenly stumbled across the video below.
–
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpP9l5cBEEc
–
How inexperienced are the new MPs and so-called ministers in terms of having acted on a handful of the fund-required agreements and acts?
–
They just keep doing nothing and are unable to contribute to the country. This is how they operate, even if they have promised tremendous performance once in power. MPs LAKMALI and Chathuranga Abeysinghe (Old Codger thought CA is a digital god- remember ?).
were portrayed as “highly educated giants” prior to the election, yet they are just subordinates of experienced Dr Harsha de Silva. Overall, it is very much like a kindergarten.
