Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared that even though some were trying to chase him out of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), they will not be able to get rid of him that easily.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday soon after giving his statement to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC), Rajapaksa in response to reporters who asked if he was part of a new party said, “I am in a party, and that is the SLFP, even though they are trying to chase me, they won’t be able to get rid of me that easily.”
He however said that according to the demands made by the public, it is obvious that there is a need for a new party. “Now there is no opposition even in Parliament, because everyone is with the government, so even if people have their grievances there is no one to speak about these in parliament,” he added.
Rajapaksa also went on to claim that there was no democracy in the country anymore. “If a monk speaks against them, he will be arrested, if the people take to the streets demanding for jobs then they are tear gassed, people are dragged out of their homes in the name of development.
