The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) today endorsed President Maithripala Sirisena‘s name as the party’s candidate for the next Presidential election.
The President’s name was proposed by SLFP National Organizer Duminda Dissanayake and seconded by former Minister Tissa Karalliyadda. The proposal was presented at the Anuradhapura district convention of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party which was conducted as part of the party’s restructuring drive.
The move comes amidst ongoing negotiations between the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) to form an alliance to contest together at future elections. UPFA Parliamentarian Vasudewa Nanayakkara told the media earlier this week that the new alliance would be formed within the next few weeks.
However, several candidates of the Rajapaksa camp, including former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and former Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, have also declared that they are ready to run for the Presidency.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, however, remains silent on the name of the candidate. He had told the media on several occasions that the candidate’s name would be revealed when the election is announced.

Sinhala Buddhism interference in politics and allowing uneducated (lack of service minded), corrupt, racist, hatred and alleged war criminals to run for an office will deteriorate Sri Lanka further downward economically, politically and in every other way.
As existing political parties already failed for decades, new political parties have to emerge with a mandate to end corruption, violence, lawlessness, crimes by Law enforcement with strict Rule of Law, everyone is equal mandate, Justice and remove civil rights to corrupt, hatred, racist and criminal political leaders and jail them for long-period of time.
Else all Sri Lankans will suffer as these politicians are not service minded and not real leaders to serve the community or the nation but to the benefits of themselves, their friends and families only!

During the political coup period he signed an agreement with Mahinda that he will appoint Mahinda as PM and Sirisena as next presidential candidate. Those who know well about Mahinda will know that Mahinda will never ever do what he promised to others. We all know what happened to two of the best associates Lasantha and the other Tamil Journalist who were sentenced for 20 years. He won’t give the important positions such as President, Prime Minister, Defence Minister to anyone other than his family and his full focus is handing over the power to his son Namal and the Defence to his other son. We don’t know if this is final decision of SLFP. New King had said it is he who will decide the candidate of SLFP. But Old King has said that Slap Party, SLFP and UPFA jointly would make that decision. We know Old Brother Prince had declared him as one candidate. Other family members too expressed their interest.
This will affect or cover many areas of SLFP and Slap Party. This decides the future of the UNP & JVP too. In future if Anura Kumara keeps up the pressure, there can be four front competitions with in the Sinhala political scape.
We earlier have written that if New King resigns before the next EP election then CBK can lead (at least temporarily) and rebuild the party. Otherwise she has to form her own party. Duminda Dissanayake is one of the leading SLFP members working with Chandrika as “Savers of LFP.” He opposed the NCM from SLFP (against Ranil). He was forced to supply the withdrawal letter from the unity Government. Now he has selected New King as the candidate of SLFP. So now we have to wait and see how the pundits going to interpret this new somersault.
We do not know how much the role Duminda playing the group of saviors of SLFP. But all recent turmoil in the SLFP was surrounding on New King. He sowed the seed. He poured the water. He natured the plant. The tree (the troubles in SLFP) is his own property. If any corrective action is need in SLFP, then that is relevant to New King’s recent actions. So our definition of Saving SLFP is taming New King. But here promoting of New King is visible. Could this action save or destroy the SLFP?

Up to now we only looked at SLFP side on saving SLFP. But is it possible to destroy SLFP’s enemies and thus save SLFP? This is similar technique to destroying Tamils from 1948 and having made other communities richer than the one time richest Ceylon community.
One of the biggest experiments in the Lankawe political history is forming Slap Party, which took about three years. SLFP leadership was assigned to Old Royals before 2015. Overnight that changed when throne changed hands. So after the parliamentary election Old Royals wanted to rebuild their lost prowess. They waited for UNP and New King to come out with a solid arrangement to the protection for Old King from UNHRC’s electric Chair. Withdrawal of the first OISL report which accused 42 prominent Lankawe figures as War Criminals, and the lethargy Resolution 30/1 which allowed for a local investigation, gave courage to feel secured and Old Royal formed their own party. From the very beginning (2015), the New King selection and election was contaminated by the minority races’ participation. So they saw New King as an invalid and weak person without the support of majority race. Further Old Royals too thought the EP position would be removed from the constitution. So that gave the path for Old Royals to form the new party based on the Sinhala Buddhist puritanism. The Slap Party was formed with one object, i.e. wipe out New King and have the SLFP transferred in the name of Old Royal Family. But the thing did not worked out exactly that way. The EP is still there. So the existence of SLFP is the death for Slap Party and Slap Party emerging as victorious is a wipe out of SLFP.

Old King’s this week speeches indicated that he was in the feeling of the need of countering that perception. The drum beaters of Slap Party like Thero de Silva or imbecile GLP failed to understand the true situation. So what they wrote and said were only what their master liked to hear or what is good for them to get good jobs. This is no different from what Sumanadasa advised for Old King in 2014.
Here the final formula is. New King promoted with a coup the Old King only to he become the EP from SLFP and Slap Party. So, if Old King misses to wipe out SLFP, he is nibbling the Slap Party on the bud. Every inch of the Slap Party’s de-growth is that much hate will turned on Old King. Slap Party is only a one way drive.
Beyond the no-return path of Slap Party, other damaging factor for Old Royals is Old Brother Prince will stand for election. That too appears to be one way road. Old Brother Prince is compromised candidate on many aspects. But New King is very independent candidate in the next election. Old Brother Prince would not be supported by Tamils and Muslims. But New King could earn a considerable Muslim’s support provided who else competing in the election. Old Brother Prince will be facing severe rejection within the family. He has no sponsoring of either SLFP or Slap Party. New King already got the SLFP’s approval. Are those factors indicating that New King is a strong candidate against Old Brother Prince? Not necessarily. Further, Old Brother Prince will have to show his resilience so the Old Royal Family relent to him the needed Slap Party membership. If he is success in seeking the Slap Party Candidacy, then that is the out of control Genie Old King has opened up under the name of Slap Party.

Sirisena is already disqualified! He said at the last elections that he would not contest again! People trusted him and voted him. He should not change his word now.
