The Sri Lanka Freedom Party will take disciplinary action against two of its elected provincial councillors who contested against candidates nominated by the Chief Ministers of Wayamba and Central Provincial Councils, Colombo Telegraph learns.
Dharmasiri Dasanayake who contested against North Western Province Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera‘s nominee Indrani Dasanayake, obtained the support of the opposition members and some UPFA members on the council and was elected chairman. Dasanayake was asked not to contest by Chief Minister Jayasekera but refused to do so.
In the Central Provincial Council, L.D. Nimalasiri contested against the Government’s nominee Mahinda Abeykoon and managed to garner seven Government votes in the council, even though he was defeated by just two votes.
Dasanayake and Nimalasiri will be investigated by the SLFP over their conduct that the party says went against the party’s collective decision.
The SLFP central committee decided this when it met last night.

For over 150 years British raj controlled Sri Lanka directly. English was the only official language. They brought in Tamils from India to till their tea estates to earn them money. Earlier the Dutch brought in Wellahleh Tamils to till their tobacco lands. The percentage of home grown Sinhalas reduced. Special privileges were given to those who adopted Christian faith. By 1870 the British raj ensured there were only 250 children in only two Buddhist schools where as Christian schools had over 80,000.
Such antique may not be unjust for WOGs and Colombians.
But Sinhalas expected post independence government would put those unjust right. When that didn’t happen Sinhalas use their democratic right to empower a government that would meet their demands.
Tamils never rebelled against the British in Sri Lanka. They were a mere sycophants of the British. But they had put forward unfair demands when they realised they will not be the rulers in an independent Sri Lanka. Worst case was when Tamils contributed wholeheartedly to terrorism to divide Sri Lanka and have a Tamil country in its North.
MR won the 2005 presidential election on a promise bring peace. Those who did not foresee the coming-up peace put every obstacle in front of him. But he ushered peace with a just war in four years. As a result we have absolute peace today.
People like whywhy accuse our people for ‘behaving like monkeys with democracy’. He talks tells us how ‘Western democracy works’. But he is silent about the hypocritical things western governments do to maintain that pseudo ‘democracy’. Western spy agencies listen to phone calls of their citizens. They enact repressive acts like ‘patriotic act’ to detain their own citizens on mere suspicion. They jail everyone who disclose such unbecoming as a threat to national security. Then they have invaded Iraq on false pretext to rob its oil. They introduced the so-called ‘Arab Spring’ to the countries they cannot control. Did they not act like monkeys?
Who should change the greed and selfishness and dirty tactics? We the Sri lankan voter or you who live in the west?

I just cannot understand why you guys cannot see what had happen to the ‘real’ democracy that neo-cons promised to Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and etc through their ‘Arab Spring’. Every country that tried that ‘Arab spring’ are experiencing a bitter winter today. There is no spring in sight. Remember, the neo-con gang destroyed not just Iraq but the moral of the Iraqi people well before the ‘Arab spring’.
I see all that is a deliberate ploy by neo-cons to rob Arab oil. In spite of their many a shortcoming, dictators of those countries had maintained better society meaning better peace and democracy than what we see today.
Now peace and democracy must be measured in relative terms to the culture of a country. That’s why planting western democracy in toto in Arab countries have failed miserably.
Those who are politically motivated and/or have personal grudge against MR are blind and cannot see progress of Sri Lanka since 2005. I am not suggesting for a moment that everything he does is perfect. But most of the things he did has benefited the mass than what his predecessors had done. That’s what matters to the public at large.
Neo-cons, their agents and those who hate him have accused MR of being a dictator. That is absurd for their criteria fall far short of universally acceptable norms. For one, Sri Lanka has as much elections as any democratic country. For another all such elections are supervised by international observers. The fact that MR win them all except where jingoists form the majority proves there is a conspiracy against MR.
Literacy in this country is 98%. Practically every house has a TV. There are more private channels than the government ones. 45% of the household has access to www. There are numerous anti government publications like LeN, CT and etc. People read what they publish. They also hear what’s happening around the world. No wonder the majority by far vote for MR.

I’m sure Herold you were aware of the Electricity tariff increase 6 months ago (apr 2013). The (MTS) Moronic Tariff System introduced by Champika Ranawaka was shelved after protest from the general public. Champika lost the Energy portfolio as a result of it.
Rajapakse backed down and gave paltry subsidies for low consumption users and low tariffs for households during the day time.
Washing machines, Dish washers, AC, Fridge Freezers are working overtime by the people who could afford it during the low tariff hours.
