By Kumar David –
The tide has turned; the time has come to act. The Rajapakse Regime must be smashed without mercy; Uva is the beginning of the end for the Mahinda–Gota–Basil power-drunk outfit. When land slides, an avalanche follows, but only if we do our bit. No quarter must be given, no opportunity lost, no breathing space allowed.
Laxity will be used by Rajapakses, their cronies and their henchmen to defer fate. The opposition and the people should be lashed if they do not persevere with the determination of Caesar quelling Gaul or Alexander pursuing Darius III. Let us finish off this regime, its crooks and its cronies who have devastated our nation under cover of Rajapakse darkness.
- Remember people of Lanka, the indignities, abuses, and humiliations you have suffered at the hands of these men and henchmen!
- Remember the robbers appointed as Corporate Chairman and Board Member; the political hooligans who terrorises your local police force and your workplace!
- Recall the ignorant scoundrels now Ambassadors to here and there and the patronised drug peddler in your neighbourhood!
- Forget not the rapist who runs your provincial or local council!
- Now or never; be rid of this muck; or you will forever live a slave, your head bowed!
The news from Uva is excellent. I do not rejoice for the UNP; that is a big question mark; but I revel in the funeral ceremony of the Rajapakse-UPFA and the cremation of the Dead Left. The simple but benighted folk of Uva gave the UPFA 73% of their votes in the 2010 PC elections. In General and Presidential polls thereafter it remained high. Then in September 2014 it crashed; in all-Uva to 51% and in Badulla District it collapsed cataclysmically to 48%! There is not one province in Lanka where Mahinda Rajapakse can poll higher. If this is all his side can poll in Uva he is facing disaster in urban areas; the angel of political death beckons.
Electoral abuse was rampant; take it from me, my sources are Dead Left members who worked the ground; bribes in cash and kind, millions in state funds, unregistered vehicles, hot lines to a prostitute police force. This is the most execrable example of electoral wrongdoing in this country since the Mangala-led Wyamba campaign in Chandrika’s time. The regime cannot repeat this on an all-Island scale in Presidential and General elections as the people have been reinvigorated. Next time these scoundrels will be beaten and chased form every village and bazaar.
Where does Uva leave my Single Issue Common Candidate (SI-CC) strategy? Are we in a stronger position? Will Ranil and the UNP feel revitalised and deem they can go it alone on a Full Executive Presidential bid? Will Ranil demand the Common Candidacy as his rightful due? I have reflected and am of the view that the UNP going it alone is foolish and risky for itself. Mangala’s statement reflects this concern.
Hence we of the SI-CC should consider linking the first and third question if the UNP demands the CC in the light of its renewed electoral strength. Colombo Telegraph readers may recall that I raised the question of what would happen if the UNP polled over 40% in Uva in my piece of 13 July:
“Ranil and the UNP should take note of five points. (a) Mahinda Rajapakse can be defeated this time because he will be hard pressed to secure 60+% of the Sinhala-Buddhist vote, that is 40+% of the national vote. But he can be defeated only if the main opposition parties and groups field a joint candidate. (b) The way to get a joint candidate is to focus on the abolition of the executive presidency and exclude diverging social and economic policies, including the UNP’s. (c) The road map must be unambiguously endorsed by all to give the public iron-clad confidence in the procedure. (d) If Ranil wishes to be prime minister in the future parliamentary system, there is no point in craving for a six-month temporary presidency. (e) If the UNP wishes to propose a name from its ranks for this “short-term job” it had better do it now”.
Mangala and I believe thinking brains in the UNP, presumably including Ranil, agree with assessment and strategy (a). Surely they then understand that (b) and (c) are imperative. We can leave aside (d) and (e) as matters for the UNP to decide for itself. Assuming that Ranil and the UNP do not intend to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, and that they are seeking endorsement of a Common Candidate bid, then it leaves (b) and (c) to be answered. Will Ranil and the UNP make, and repeat over and over again, a loud, clear and unambiguous pledge to abolish the Executive Presidency? Will they vow to do it within six months? If yes then they can endorse the Road Map designed by Sobitha’s group or they can propose one of their own.

The Uva result is an anti-Rajapaksa vote against the corrupt and criminal UPFA govt and its political cronies.
It is by default that the UNP won and also due to Harin’s efforts.
Sobitha Thero should stop delaying on naming joint op. candidate. and either declare himself or Chandirka Bandaranaiyake (CBK) as the candidate to defeat Jarapassa and abolish the Corrupt Presidency. JVP support will then be forthcoming..
If Ranil Wickramasinghe the UNP dictator thinks he can win along against Mahinda Jarapassa as joint opposition candidate for President he is joking! Ranil is a SPOILER and greedy dictator!
The Uva vote shows that the Sinhala people are fed up of the corrupt and criminal Jarapassa regime but we must not forget that they have absolute contempt for Ranil who has lost every election, and right now there is TINA (there is no alternative to Jarapassa).
Finally, Harin should be named UNP deputy leader for turning the party around, rather than Sajith Premadasa who has NO education and cannot be TRUSTED in a basic and fundamental way since Sajith LIED about a degree from London School of Economics. Sajith is no better than the Rajapakse brothers in his mentality and ethics… All Hambatota buruwas..

UN rights council approves inquiry into alleged abuses in Sri Lanka war
Excerpt:
27 March 2014 – The United Nations Human Rights Council today voted to open an international inquiry into alleged war crimes committed by both the Sri Lankan Government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the final stages of a decades-long conflict that ended in 2009.
Adopted by a vote of 23 in favour to 12 against with 12 abstentions, the Geneva-based Council requested the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to undertake a “comprehensive investigation” into alleged serious violations and abuses of human rights and related crimes by both parties, and to establish the facts and circumstances of such alleged violations “with a view to avoiding impunity and ensuring accountability.”

Mechanic,
Your Sandana bullockcart made of stolen parts from UNP is now broken. Before the elections some of the rogue monkeis in your dustbin mouthers’ party haranged about 65% + victory margin over UNP. Now look what you fuckig jokers have achieved. Your nextto nothing “mechanichood” ain’t going to fix nothing now. You bunch of timid cardboard heroes have now taken to your heels in the face of Uva defeat and now blare about cricket victories of even by 1 run! Before Uva you floated and bloated on Nadikadal victory, armourd vehicles, T56 and multibarrels, but alas now you talk of 1 run victories! This mechanic fucker must be mounted on the center barrel of a multibarrel battery and fired on to the nearest black hole never to return even an atom of cells from this despicable ugly animal called mechanic.

Yes UNP definitely won the UVA election.
The reason is compared to last elections when UNP got only 26%, this time UNP got 40%.
UPFA last time got 76% and this time only 49%.
Also UPFA used all the Fraud, thuggery, vilance, intimidation, bribery, police and all other gimmicks available under the sun during the election campaign and on the poling day to win UVA election.
But with all that they failed and lost.
That’s why we say UNP won the election.
Next time it’s going to be ” Polkudu Sambarani” for UPFA.

RE: Smash The Rajapaksas NOW!
Read, Common Sense (pamphlet) by Thomas Paine, that inspired the American Revolution and toppled the-mighty British from America’s 13 colonies.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Sense_(pamphlet)
Why not the Sri Lanka Intellectuals, who are NOR Shills and stooges, write a similar Pamphlet, Commons\ Sense, and widely distribute among the populace, and get Rajapaksa and their crones defeated? In clear, simple language need to explain the advantages of and the need for immediate independence from the Rajapaksa Mafia and their cronies.
Common Sense[1] is a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in 1775–76 that inspired people in the Thirteen Colonies to declare and fight for independence from Great Britain in the summer of 1776. In clear, simple language it explained the advantages of and the need for immediate independence. It was published anonymously on January 10, 1776, at the beginning of the American Revolution and became an immediate sensation. It was sold and distributed widely and read aloud at taverns and meeting places. Washington had it read to all his troops, which at the time had surrounded the British army in Boston. In proportion to the population of the colonies at that time (2.5 million), it had the largest sale and circulation of any book published in American history.[2]
Common Sense presented the American colonists with an argument for freedom from British rule at a time when the question of whether or not to seek independence was the central issue of the day. Paine wrote and reasoned in a style that common people understood. Forgoing the philosophical and Latin references used by Enlightenment era writers, he structured Common Sense as if it were a sermon, and relied on Biblical references to make his case to the people.[3] He connected independence with common dissenting Protestant beliefs as a means to present a distinctly American political identity.[4] Historian Gordon S. Wood described Common Sense as “the most incendiary and popular pamphlet of the entire revolutionary era”.[5]

The true colors of the Maha-rajapakses will be seen in the next few months.
When everybody thinks the noose is tightening on them – Geneva, Uva and all that crap, they will cut the noose and the armed forces let them free.
The country will have the next independence – from democracy and rule of law.
Please watch as history unfolds if you don’t have the power to stop it in its tracks.

RE: Smash The Rajapaksas NOW!- The Axis Powers, The Evil Needed Allied Forces , UNP, JVP, DP and All others..

The opposition and the people should be lashed if they do not persevere with the determination of Caesar quelling Gaul or Alexander pursuing Darius III. Let us finish off this regime, its crooks and its cronies who have devastated our nation under cover of Rajapakse darkness.”
The Raja-paka Axis Powers, The Evil Needed Allied Forces , UNP, JVP, DP and All others..
Raja-paka and ISIS, the Axis of Evil like the Spanish Inquisition…
Confidence men and their masquerade
The Spanish Inquisition provides a telling parallel to ISIL’s extremism.
http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/2014/09/confidence-men-their-masquerade-20149216735682622.html
“John Bell is Director of the Middle East Programme at the Toledo International Centre for Peace in Madrid. He is a former UN and Canadian diplomat, and served as Political Adviser to the Personal Representative of the UN Secretary-General for southern Lebanon and adviser to the Canadian government.”
“”One of the most surreal events of the Spanish Inquisition, was the “Auto da Fe”, a ritual procession that took the victim to his or her punishment. The “guilty” would be dressed in a special yellow garment and a long pointed cap, both strangely decorated with hellish images of effigies, flames, and demons.
The term “Auto da Fe” means “act of faith”, and later came to mean burning at the stake. The last such event occurred in Mexico in 1850, yet, today, we still suffer from the Inquisition’s ailment: if you do not abide by my faith, hellfire and brimstone will annihilate you.
Today, it is the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) that represents that flagrant extremism, inflicting religious diktat and cruelty on the planet. The group’s aim, an “Islamic Caliphate” that is neither Islamic nor a Caliphate, horrifies everyone with beheadings and the oppression of minorities such as Christians and Yezidis. It has even managed to shake a hesitant US President Barack Obama into military action, a noticeable irony given his policy of withdrawal from Iraq.
Telling parallel
As horrible as ISIL is, the Inquisition provides a telling parallel. When it began in France in the 12th century, the Inquisition also persecuted minorities. Beguines, Hussites, Waldensians, and Cathars, groups we have barely heard of, came under its knife and were annihilated. Its ardent Catholicism ultimately led to the the religious wars of Europe, echoes of today’s Sunni-Shia clashes that ISIL feeds on.
Unlike the Inquisition, ISIL is a modern phenomenon, a child of the social media as Iason Athanasaiadis describes and not just a throwback to the Middle Ages. But, what it and the Inquisition share, beyond time, is the chronic human compulsion to destroy in the name of a grand cause.
Both demonstrate how carried away humans can be by an “idee fixe”; auto da fes and horrible beheadings can become desirable if the goal is lofty enough. (If ISIL and the Inquisition met in some other era, would they annihilate or develop some understanding of the extremes?)
This is not just a religious proclivity, political ideologies also delve in these depths of darkness. However, acting under God’s command seems to bring out a special zeal for nastiness.
The destructive acts almost serve as evidence of the intensity of faith and, perversely, being closer to the deity. Both are a measure of a world upside down, good utilised for evil, and evil presented as good.
A religious literalism also lies behind these wild distortions. A text is read as concrete fact, rather than allegory.
When extremist settlers see the village of Anata in the West Bank, they see biblical Jewish Anatot, not a living Arab village. When evangelical Christians think of Jerusalem, they see the apocalypse and the end-times, not a living city, holy to three faiths.
Extremists are trying to re-enact the habits of 1,400 years ago down to dress code and facial hair. So it also was with church dogma and its enforcement mechanism, the Inquisition.
Black and white world
All are attempts at applying a text from long ago in a new and different world. Many of these religious texts were metaphorical and not meant to be understood literally. ISIL or the Inquisition offer instead the comforting (and deadening) certainties of a black and white world. The living dynamics of religious discovery are set in amber, and then violence committed in their name.
It’s easy for most to see the evil in ISIL, but the view is less clear when the extremist is one of our own. In some locales in Syria and Iraq, there is support for ISIL because it provides locally what their governments did not. As the victims of Auto da Fe marched in their demeaning costumes, hundreds of average citizens watched passively, if not happily. Millions of European Christians supported the Inquisition without question. The radical just makes the bigotry in all of us into an unchecked higher mission. Indeed, whole societies are still in danger of being taken in by the lure of blind faith or national glory – the risk is not just “over there” or “way back when”.
In 1857, Herman Melville wrote a book called “The Confidence-Man: His Masquerade” that involved the Devil as a con-man on a Mississippi steamboat. It is an allegory for how easily people can be taken in, and the author dedicated the book to the “victims of Auto da Fe”. Whether in the deserts of Iraq or the churches of Spain, “the confidence man”, or con man, is crucial in turning higher purpose into dark compacts. His masquerade can win, and the world turned upside down, unless we defy it.
Despite the very human foibles that ISIL and the Inquisition represent, there is a way out. Many sense that, beyond the con, there is a good to be pursued that is real, harmonic with a larger order, and that is not the product of manipulation nor the generator of misery. The question is how.
Realisation and verification
William Chittick, a scholar of Islam, differentiates between the Islamic terms “Taqlid” and “Tahqiq”. The former means imitation of an authority, the latter, realisation or verification using mind, heart, and personal experience. ISIL and the Inquisition contain a whole lot of Taqlid/imitation, and far from enough personal realisation and verification. Similarly, avoiding dissent is also a hallmark of cult thinking, including in the Middle East and the beginning of the spiral towards blind behaviour.
Tahqiq/verification and the ability to dissent are crucial in avoiding a repeat of dark human extremes. The weeds of extremists take root and grow wherever independent thought is discouraged. The antidote is a personal decision to double and triple check whether individual or group assumptions are truly correct. Without them, the con man has a field day.
The real act of faith is not the exciting masquerade or the auto da fe, it’s in the hard work of creating a world that is right side up by melting away cultural fixations, shedding the shackles of dogma, and gaining that refreshing freedom of mind and spirit that can only be earned, and that no confidence man can give.”

It is too early to jump and down like Prof.Kumar.
There are many indications that this is Harin Fernando election rather than UNP’s. Haren resigned his parliamentary seat. The biggest short of UNP looks like is its they man power in the parliament. Wasting CV’s talents at NPC is OK. There is nothing else TNA has to do. Somebody has to ask the question is it OK Harin lose the parliamentary seat and take the opposition leader post at Uva PC, where these PCs bodies good to pay salary for its MPs only, but they don’t have authority to legislate anything useful?
While UNP losing, Harin’s double the number of the preference votes compared Sashendra is telling UNP is not ready yet. What will be the result if Harins is not in the election? It appears pretty poor. His votes alone has brought three four seats to UNP. Then it is sure his presence brought seats to UNP in the other districts too. If somebody ready to minus these, then that could the election results for other provinces.
If you watch a cow with a calf, it will fight with a lion. But cow, in the normal life, is not suitable to challenge the lion. In a desperate situation, Harin has brought a change. All these time, stopping the rolling down of opposition was a big deal. Now, it appears it is possible. But winning an election is different formula. If one climb mountain with single house, the cart can roll back even pulling the house with it. Uva’s opposition party leadership is too tiny to shake the country in an election.
Ranil has no idea of how to contesting an election. He did not take position on UN’s expert panels, s inquiry report. He was resting under King’s shadow. He did the same thing on Shirani’s dismissal by parliament. Sampanthar and Sumanthiran were the only ones talked that time. Government even threatened that Sampanathar had acted against the PSC and said it will take legal action against him. It was the tiny parties like JVP and TNA has been shouldering opposition party’s responsibility, while Ranil was warming him in the King’s cozy cloaks. He did to vote out OHCHR’s admissions to Lanka. Even the King’s Pakistan advisers told to let them in. After all Pakistan took the leadership to oppose the inquiry at UNHRC. Pakistan consultants do not want to come to Missing Persons MPCS commission as it is against the international established procedures and norms, even though King is ready to pay for them. How Ranil could have missed an opportunity like that? As his latest cowardice talk, Ranil, who said in 2008 that he will not repay the HSBC loans as it was lending to Royal Government knowing the capacity of its ability to repay it. Last week, he is so scared to talk about China; he blamed America for Lanka’s indebtedness. How this guy is can launch an honest campaign and make the people feel confident on him? TNA has rejected Ranil at the meeting for to find a common candidate. He is not just a non-Sinhala Buddhist for Sinhalese to vote for him, even for Tamils and Muslims to vote for him, he never raised his voice during their suffering. That is why Uva Tamils voted to Thondaman, In this election, acting as a Royal Family’s feet washer. They could not find a better choice.

Upul / September 22, 2014
Dear Mr. David
I appreciate your unbridled enthusiasm about the coming changes for Sri Lanka. I wish for the same and much more.
Ranil Wickremesinghe for ALL HIS FAULTS is a Statesman. Some might not know what it means and that is their loss. He is probably the last of a generation of leaders Sri Lanka will miss in the years to come. Yes, there will be the Harin’s in our future, but they will be rare and far in-between to make a difference to the lives of Menike, Selva and Mohamed.
I have been a observer of RW’s actions and in-actions and have been a vociferous critic of his ( in my own circle – of course!). I saw him watch helplessly whilst the UNP destroyed in the last 9 years or so. I thought like most, he must enjoy the perks of leader of the Opposition so much that he is in no hurry to become anything else. SB joined the UNP, Mangala came over and Ranil was in no hurry to do much. SB left, Mangala threatened to leave and in the meantime a busload of MP’s crossed over and Ranil was seemingly asleep.
Observing the Uva operations of the UPFA I realized what had been Ranil’s weakness. MONEY. There is one thing the Rajapakses and all unscruplous politicians know about. That is the value and availability of black money. They spent money in Uva like there was printing press running notes out at will. This is money given by the benefiting business people, who know they have to put up or be shut down! Dayasiri crossed over for money. Some small-time crook who crossed over is now trying to sell the TV station license he got as a bribe to doing so. Sajith Premadasa also has IOU’s the Rajapakses are holding and cannot talk too much.
With the Uva campaign Ranil killed a couple of birds with one election. He showed die-hard UNPer’s that all is not lost and elections can still be won. He showed that Sajith Premadasa is irrelevant no matter how loud the screaming might be from his supporters. Sajith thought he could call the shots and had racketeers like Tiran Alles trying to negotiate pre-conditions on his behalf. RW played for time and won. Now, Sajith will have to be the whimpering puppy he always was, bar the occasional chest thumping.
Ranil’s big problem is an image issue. He is a waste of space – in the public eye. His PR chaps must come of with a characterisation that works given his plodding nature. My polling is done with Trishaw drivers. They talk to a few hundred daily and have a good pulse on the current prevailing opinions.
In addition, if Ranil was to step aside to facilitate a joint opposition campaign, who CAN HE TRUST ???? This is the million dollar question? There is none around him of his caliber, who will not stab him and betray the party in a milli-second, once the presidency is at hand!! The answer to this question, will explain Ranil’s dithering.
The JVP, DP, SLMC and TNA know they will not stand a chance without a coalition. They also have learnt their lessons from the last 10 years well – I hope. So, without asking for the Moon, they should agree to disagree and campaign per your blue-print.
We will soon learn if all these leaders really mean it when they say – I am here for the people………..NOT ME. With Hakeem, we know the truth. The rest, you guys figure them out.
/
Lasantha / September 26, 2014
Upul,
I totally agree with you. Few things I have to add.
Ranil could be a good economist. But before that he has to win elections and for this he has to be a Politician. Ranil’s political ability is minimal.
Ranil did not make a sufficient voice for people when they were in need. For example CJ Shirani Bandaranayake, Negombo fishermen’s rights and Aluthgama anti Muslim riots are few to mention. Ranil preferred to take vacation in Venice than to fight for peoples rights and now to learn from Junior Harin as to how to win elections. Ranil cannot be a Sleeping Beauty any more while chit chatting with Rajapakses at Araliya gaha medura drinking Black coffee. He has to stop all these drama and should start to win peoples confidence.
That’s why I appreciate JVP who the only party who make a voice on behalf of struggling people in Sri Lanka and Ranil has to learn from JVP.
I still think Ranil has to approach JVP,DP,TNA,MC,Rev Sobitha thero and Madam Chandrika in order to rally people behind him to win next Presidential elections. He may have to travel to each village and to each house to lure votes. He cannot do politics while seated in the Airconditioned Parliament and Siri Kotha. He has to follow Harin and JVP if he plans to win next elections.
Over 65 UNPers who crossed over to UPFA for money, perks, status and positions betrayed UNP party. They should never be entertained back to UNP.
Rajapakses bankrupted all businessmen who supported UNP including Golden Key conglomerate Hon.Lalith Kotalawela and Harry Jayawardena etc, etc. This is how Rajapakses kept the financial monopoly, black and drug money to run his election campaigns.
UNP and the joint opposition have many hurdles to cross in order to defeat Rajapakse family dictatorship megalomania and only through uniting with all other opposition parties they could achieve this objective.
Hope Ranil and the UNP will understand this simple common sense.

Mahind Rajpakase was elected by 2010 by 18 lakes of vast majority vote by People of Sri lanka. No one has that privileged in history ballot oriented politics in Modern democracies history in an Island since 1948.Comment by Kumar David has racial roots of Trotskyists type of anti- Majority people and anti verdict of PEOPLE in our Island.
There is nothing else the hidden move of David has to totally undermine regain Sovereignty and Terroritoril Integrity by defeated Tamil LTTE Ruthless out-fit by Leadership of Mahanda Rajjpakase five years before.
Meaning of this statement is taken revenged by David against MR and his part alliance to be overthrown immediately by hook or crook and place new Tamil Terrorist sympathized regime in CENTER.
That type of new ruling alliance proposed by David of in the center that power by any type of alliance, he want destroy all democratic task undertaken by MR ruling alliances. That was progressive democratic mission carry forwarded by MR after defeated Tamil LTTE ruthless terrorist since 2009 May … by MR ruling national parties .
This is NOT Socialism or Democracy by David version lumped politics that guided and treat by anarchist Trotskyism politics in what people of Sri lanakn WANT!
David’s-Trotskyism is serve for greater SPLITTER OF COUNTRY, NATION AND PEOPLE in OUR time. David and his line of politics in going destroy our tiny an Island unity, stability, security and peace by vital Interest of Tamil ruthless politics of Terrorism,is not that Socialism.
What David preach by words are not right thinking and not rational politics, which its going disorder whole system has been brought about an unprecedented crises our democracies norms of politics in future for many generations to comes!
This proposed by ‘ Smash Rajapakase now’ which that David to be created widespread social turmoil is the fertile ground for the resurgence of the foreign power and anti -Democratic movement in Island.

Only way to smash the Rajapakses is to get into the grass root level. UNP, JVP and other opposition parties should arrange grass root level small groups. This should be home based meetings of small groups of households to explain to them what the Rajapakse brothers have done to Sri Lanka, Democracy and Rule of Law. If these types of meetings are continuously arranged in a well organized and repetitive manner then the Opposition can wipe out Rajapakses. Once Rajapakses are wiped out then UNP should take the lead role and allow other parties who have assisted to form a National Government for a period of 4 years to clean the country of all the messes that Rajapakse regime has imposed. For this we need a leader and I am sure Ranil has the leadership qualities. By the way Harin should be the Deputy Leader and not Sajith.

A common candidate is difficult to choose from the present political leaders. A Buddhist monk is out of question if we want to project a secular image(Which is important) to our government. It has to be a new entrant like how TNA pulled Judge Wignewaran out of their magical hat.

Some of the caroons that have appeared in the Daily Mirror in the past few months will make excellent propaganda material for the opposition. The campaign to oust the UPFA from power and remove MR from his self constructed throne, should start now. Every misdeanenour and outright chicanary of this government since 2010 should be exposed.
The oratorical skiils of Anura Kumara Dissanayake should be roped in to carry the message to the rural Sinhala masses. Whie Harin Fernando with his tri-lingual abilities should make his voice and heard among all the people. Chandrika Kumaratunge should be roped into the joint opposition campaign, led by Ramil Wickremasinghe. She should reach out to the SLFP loyalists. General Fonseka also should be part of the joint opposition, to claim the lion’s share of the credit for winning the war on the ground and deprive MR of the credit he has unfairly hogged. The TNA should join the national campaign and reach out to all the people in this country, while explaining the Tamil dilemma to the Sinhala masses. Sambanthan and Sumanthiran can speak Sinhala well and this will be an asset. Sajith Premadasa of course should be kept in his place in Hambantota to sing songs and contemplate his true worth. The further the likes of Rauf Hakeem and Rishad Bathiuddin are kept the better it will be for the whole country.
There is nothing more important than unseating this government, at this point in our history.

Doctor, Are you serious..
Didn’t you see the JVP statement that they will never support Ranil Wickremasinghe or the UNP..
Not that it matters much in the South where the JVP did more harm to the rural Sinhalese than your Sambandan’s ” big boy ” and the Vellala CM’s hero, Prabakaran.
Imagine the new boss of your TNA standing along side the Anglicans and waving the 15 Resolutions even at the sensible elite and the intelligentsia in Colombo and other major cities asking them to vote in Ravi, Kiriella and Mangal to dismantle Mattala, Magampura ,and sell our toll express ways to Cameron and Harper’s Pension Funds and new Galleons Hedge Funds in the Diaspora.
Imagine Chandrika on stage waving the Title she almost had for 40 perches in Kurunduwatta from our Sinhala Land Bank and accuse Rajapaksa of corruption.
Keselwatta Kid at least would have gotten a few poor Sinhala vote who received hand outs from the old man’s estate.

“There is nothing more important than unseating this government, at this point in our history.”
Well you have given a list of internal opposition to MR. However you forgot to include Hindian thinking on our next elections.
They do play a decisive role in our domestic politics. Has Hindia got a favourite candidate?
CBK was persuaded to sack Ranil’s government by Hindians. The reason being Ranil sought international safety net against LTTE while he was the Prime Minister of island. Hindia also could help opposition to buy out MR’s supporters and MPs. Now MR is looking for new international (Chinese) safety net. How long Hindians would tolerate MR? On the other hand Hindia might consider MR as being the only stabilising factor in this island and would consider its support to Gota and MR.
MR still has few tricks up his sleeve, he could still divide the opposition and UNP into more factions, a time tested divide and rule strategy. Many years ago MR promised Hindia to deal with JVP for its racist opposition to accept 13th Amendment. Wimal formed his own party, thus weakening JVP while strengthening MR.
Gota could offer safety and security for a selected few in the opposition only if they supported MR’s campaign, on no support no safety basis.
Would the Election Commissioner withstand Gota’s stick and MR’s carrot?
As for JVP there is no radical changes in its core ideology, it still remains essentially a Sinhala/Buddhist racist party. All those cosmetic changes may look glittering but its is the same old party with new packaging.

The crux of most of the socio-politico and economic problems is that all organized as well as disorganized and splintered schizophrenic religions have long past their Best BFO, Use-By and Expiry dates. At best they may have acted and reacted as some sort of an internal and external scaffoldings for most individuals, communities, societies and nations Would have been useful at best in the service aspect to humanity though that too is questionable for its real inner expectations of rewards of some form like Moksha, heaven, better rebirth or as even at the least to ease one’s troubled conscience. It’s high time for all of religiously oriented mankind to be repeatedly and continuously better re-educated with the cutting edge discoveries of science and do away with the crutches of all religions and try to make-do with a more realistic Amoral and apparently spiritual aspect of life and the ever expanding and recycling cosmos where everything seems to be nothing and nothing seems to be everything for all forms of life in the knowable and observable parts of the multiuniverses.
As this may help reduce the horrendous violence, death and destruction wrought by unfounded delusionary and subjective religious beliefs even as scientific-mankind is able to better harness the Viruses or Viri for their useful and better properties to improve the present and future stock of life to come to live a longer, better qualitative Lives with the least love, hatred envy and harm to his fellow beings as well as all Life. Though this thought and/or feeling too is an apparent contradiction and paradox in the light of the mostly Human and other forms of Micro biomes living within, on and through and through all life forms in at times as competitive, cooperative and multi symbiotic relationships for sex, food, transport and abode.
So-called mother, mistress Nature or even God and/or Goddess seems to be functioning as an experimental, contradictory and is eternally at cross purposes simultaneously to both the religious and irreligious surpassing all religions with their many branches and some with other lucrative sub-sects both extant and extinct. Yet to all of us who have damaged and flawed brain software through the various cultural upbringings over the ages with further inherent brain hardware inadequacies and superfluities along with the amoral experimentations of nature will make us all continue our blunderings and buffoonery until, nature itself or one of its main byproduct us humans ourselves make ourselves superfluous and extinct both accidentally and/or willfully as its seems evident that neither nature nor its part and parcel mankind has or is working to any master and/or even an ad hock plan as such everything is constrained by the very vagaries of nature itself despite the countless signs and signals of intelligent design and natural evolutions that seem quite beyond the scope of comprehension of us humans both religious and non-religious.

It is certainly going to be now or never to oust the most despotic, the most tyrannical regime this country has ever seen! The JVP has to at least in its own interests join the campaign to oust this regime. MaRa is not going to wait beyond January, in fact he may even advance the Presidential election, because he knows full well the tide against him will become wilder with time.

The Prof. can do the logistics of a SI-CC (to be named later) as he/she
will be out within a set time, stand-in to rescue SL in a democratic manner.
The Front being led by UNP with a National-Government-in-waiting frame
work. This will surely raise the stakes to oust the Regime, IF no set-up
“Coup” takes over to upset the game plan!
(It is assumed that every political leader will have dreamt of being in
Governance at least once in their life-time and would not miss this
opportunity, with a patriotic face!)

It would be recalled that the Sri Lankan people , however much the majority of them lacked in literacy, they were the most politically conscious people in South Asia not letting one single political party rule for more than two terms. The racism, chauvinism and the triumphalism shown in recent times by the Rajapaksa regime and the Buddhist extremists there has been a complete turnaround. In Sinhala areas the political parties there in are judged by the extent to which the minorities can be kept subdued ad oppressed. All the other considerations are secondary. If the tide has turned then it augurs well.Bensen

It is highly unlikely the Rajapaksa dynasty is ousted because they are not playing on a level playing field with the opposition. The Rajapakse’s are able to spend millions on their campaigns from the country’s coffers not on job creation programs but boosting their popularity and in the process putting us all in debt for a thousand years. We have invested so much on our infrastructure apparently for the benefit of commerce but we have seen neither an increase in commerce nor a demand from them. We subsidise popular imported products and suffer the double whammy not only to our trade balances but also to our treasury.

It is sour grapes for Kumar David. How does he slander the Rajapaksas who has brought peace to the country. Not a single instance he has mentioned about the brutality of LTTE. Is he glorifying this outfit. All the article he exhibited his venom on SL government. If they behave like this what must the Sinhalese should do to TNA members of parliament who slander Sri Lanka at every turn but yet draw the perks of their posts. After all UNP has not done anything different. They have never apologized of their behaviour during the war. They are not a different party. They have merely done nothing except to have fielded a young candidate to Badulla. But yet it does not translate to anything at a general election. All the propaganda UNP has carried out during this election campaign is not true as their candidates have done better.

Can some one list all fraudulent and murderous activities of the current gov. UNP and JVP then achievements of all three look at the costs to the society due to both groups of activities substract one from the other.
See who wins, finally aggregate of each activity is the cost of democracy since independence. We need to ask our selves are we not letting the same groups rule and dominate us again.

Prof:
Smash The Rajapaksas NOW:
I wish to make a humble request to you Emil Van De Poorten and Dayan Jayathileke to stop fantasizing and day dreaming after UVA. Stop this Clarion call in the belief that the Sinhala electorate has some how matured. They haven’t as the hatred towards the minority is deep rooted and embedded in their Gene.
In your case and that of Emil I know the wish to smash the Rajapakses comes from the bottom of your heart whereas in the case of Dayan it comes from his head.
You can smash the Paksas but not from within but from oustside ( I mean factors working in tandem from outside such as UNHCR, India under BJP and the Diaspora) to make MR eat his humble pie and devolve power in full and go beyond. When he capitulates he will be thrown out by the 20 Million born RACISTS for failing to deliver on his promise to ethnically cleanse Sri Lanka.
The following are my reasons for believing that the results in UVA is not a turning point from within.
***It is simply a flash in the Pan and not a Quantum Leap in terms of the electoral fortunes of the opposition which no doubt will be a welcome relief. But in my view people are going to be disappointed for the following reasons. In UVA the election was decided on Bread and Butter issues. But Nationally the picture is different.MR is not about to fall and On the contrary he is like a Duracell Battery and will keep going when the others have burnt out. 1) Uva Province is not typical of Sri Lankan electorate for the following reasons. Uva Province was created in 1896 and currently Uva is Sri Lanka’s second least populated province, with 1,187,335 people. Uva consists of two districts: Badulla and Moneragala of which Badulla is the capital. The diversity in the Uva province is a unique feature of the area. Many cultural and ethnic groups live in harmony in the province while maintaining their own heritage and customs. These groups include Sinhalese, plantation Tamils, Muslims, Sri Lankan Tamils and Adiwasee communities. Uva is in desperate need of development as it is the poorest province in the country under normal conditions (the war has caused unprecedented damages in the North-East but prior to war, the North-East was above the average of the Uva). For example, in the Western province per household income per month is Rs. 25,602 and the figure for Uva is less than half and it is at Rs.11,178. Individual income in the Uva province per month is calculated at Rs. 2,570 and the figure for the Western Province is Rs. 5,999. The development reaches Uva at a very slow phase and there are many villages in the province without any access roads, electricity or clean water. By 2008, when the Western Province boasts of 2,299 Industries registered under the Ministry of Industrial Development and Board of Investment (BOI) Uva has just 37 Industries.
THE RISE OF MR:
MR was catapulted to power on his promise to defeat the LTTE which he managed to do with the help of India.
THE FALL OF MR:
Will come about when he fails to deliver on his promise to Sinhalamise Sri Lanka and fate has it that this will also happen with India being the Architect. There is mounting pressure from India to devolve Power which MR will find hard to resit. Therefore the writing is on the wall and his days are numbered.

A better analysis if one forgets the racism in kali’s post…
what keeps MR in power is UN and USA. If not for US pressurising SL and UN meddling people will oust MR for purely economic reasons..
The fact [Edited out] media like CT and even groundviews who have already decided MR need to be ousted will keep MR in power..
Between what makes you think MR will never go for power devolution if india pressurises?
