Snubbed UPFA Party Leaders Tell Speaker To Restore Lost Privileges

Several affiliated party leaders within the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) fold has appealed to the speaker to restore their lost privileges and some other traditions which are currently being curtailed by the new parliament.

Parliament recently decided not to recognise Udaya Gammanpila, Wimal Weerawansa, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Dinesh Gunewardena and Chandrasiri Gajadeera as leaders of their respective parties but as members of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

Vasu Dinesh Wimal UdayaSpeaking on the fact that being a part of the UPFA would deprive them of the privileges enjoyed by Party Leaders. Wimal Weerwansa MP said the decision was not in keeping with parliamentary tradition.

Weerwansa said that his group expects a positive reply from the Speaker to their requests.

The letter signed by the above 5 leaders have four main points. They are;

1. Restoring privileges and status entitled to all party leaders irrespective of the fact whether they are represented within a larger coalition.

2. Nominating party leaders to all select committees within parliament.

3. As per the 19th amendment when nominating members to the Constitutional Council giving due recognition to provisions in the constitution referring to “other parties” and also nominating members in concurrence with the promises made to the parliament by the Prime Minister.

4. Protecting the rights and privileges of all UPFA parliament members both as a group and as individual members while respecting the decisions taken by some to remain as independent members within the house.

When you were with the Monster Mahinda, People were denied their rights to speak or write. White vans was the response even if people breath. We have seen how you fellows behaved like a uncivilised vulgar criminals when you had the opportunity. It is in the interest of children and future of the country you should be banned from attending parliament.

UPFA MPS whose mouths water for portfolios will loose hope and patience within 3 weeks. They will trickle back to the paternal warmth of MR. Come October and it will be a season for more Ministers. Before that Thondaman and Devananda will enter to make ‘Good Governance ” better.

Can their patriotism allow them to rest without luxury vehicles, unlimited petrol and more than normal security?

These men like in a teledrama behave to ridicule the nation.

MY3 -Ranil led govt must ignore these buggers.

Also not forgetting that self proclaimed POLITICAL analyst of the nation is behind and further backing this quatro.

This country must not be guided or misguided by the like men – since there are enough of good healthy thinking ones that would be ready to work for the nation with a clean mind. Always making a billa going to the extreme ends of anything – like that Emperialists are making their way to colonize the country agian … bla bla .. may be like frogs in a well – these buggers have nothing but bittered feelings about the west.

    Dear Speaker,

    Please don’t.

They have lost it and have not earned it. They only represent Modayas, Mootals and Fools.

      You are dead right.

Buruwanse should not have any ground to continue his behavours in the today s environment. He can justisfy making black and whitle or otherway around if he wants to strenghten his kind of stupid folks. That is how he collected that higher numbers of preferential votes in the recent election. How come if people are adequately knowledgeble to even think this man a single vote for reelection. I have no words and me being away from the country, I cant get this at all.
Wasidewa, who ran amok in the parlaiment attacking PM of the country in all filthy words as if he could be passing his teenage – has no power in today s context. He is a dried pumpkin as PM louded once – will have no ground at all to enjoy his perks further. He is the most abusive among those senior leftists worked with FORMER LANKEN STYLE Mugabe-Rajapakshe.
Dinesh would go on saying with nasal tones, how we haveto be, but not respecting the basics that the society needs today. He had been a good politician in early 80ties, but having sat with dogs for the last 10 years, he has lost his image fully to this day.
Gommanpila is a teenage politician, h ewould change the name of his party as if he would change his underwear. This man s nature is to spread jathiwadaya – nationalism in a fine manner – sticking on to buddhistic agendas, but those who pulse can get it easily – none of the 4 are will allow develop the nation.

When you people uttered raw filth on Shirani Bandaranayke who held the high post of the Chief Justice did you people care. so now piss off.
We cant understand how some MP’s who were thrown out by the people were brought back through the back door and given even cabinet appointments.
    1. S B Dissanayake – who said the Chandrika should be stripped naked and asked to walk on the road. He said as Minister of Higher Education. He should be thrown into a garbage pit and made to rot there.
    2. Dilan Perera – who robbed the poor maids money who have sweated in the middle east to give a better life to the family.

    Sir,

Most of these parties have only one member. That is often the leader himself. Only.

That is a bit of pickle. For these so called “leaders”. And for the people.

Please throw their request into the dustbin at once.

    Thanks!

Only due to hitching themselves to the SLFP bandwagon! If they contested on their own, doubtful if they would have made it to parliament! They prevented some true SLFPers from entering parliament.

However, it is the people of Sri Lanka who voted them ,instead of voting the Sirisena’s true SLFPers.

Where was this logic when you were ministers of the last govt. Remember TNA is not a single party but a coalition of five parties.

Oh they look so holy and clean with their white garbs. notice the look of desperation now that their crooked attempt to bring back the king failed. Having these guys in parliament is a disgrace as their expiry date is long expired. looking forward to seeing live tv of parliament proceedings where these experts in filthy foul language can contaminate the proceedings. Ado sirisena and p….aya will have to watch their behavior if they do not want to be thrown out of parliament.

They have guts to stand up for MR (in victory and defeat both) unlike most of the rouges/opportunist in the SLFP who went on MR’s back to the parliament and switch sides. They also have got elected unlike most of the defeated meeharakas like SB, Wijemuny Soyza, etc who went behind MS to get nominated.

They are respected in their electorates and districts. They surely do not have to engage in politics to win a popularity contest judged by the egoistic diaspora who are living abroad and think they know all about SL politics.

Do you mean the son of the Boralugoda Buruwa? Who sacrificed his ideals and accepted a Cabinet portfolio under Dudley Senanayake of the UNP and pleaded and obtained five Scholarship to his four sons and daughter? The man who espoused vernacular education for the ordinary masses but not for his own children like the other Bluff SWRD who educated his offspring in the UK. What Humbugs these buggers are?

        Gamini:-

“…The man who espoused vernacular education for the ordinary masses but not for his own children, like the other Bluff SWRD who educated his offspring in the UK.”

At the time that The Bandaranaikes sent their Offspring to the UK and France for their Education, the rest of us were only allowed to take UK Pounds 4/= out of Sri Lanka.

That is why there was a mass Exodus of qualified Professionals out of Sri Lanka who wanted to Educate their Children in English, to enable them to compete for Employment in Sri Lanka and Elsewhere.

The Governments of that time blamed those Professionals for deserting their Motherland, after receiving Free Education in English, to Professional Level.

Sri Lanka’s Loss was the Gain of Foreign Countries, who welcomed these Sri Lankan well-qualified Professionals, with Open Arms.

Even then, it was a Case of One set of Rules for the Politicians, and another for the Rest of Us!

They should realise that the biggest privilege – that of serving the people of the nation – has been thrust upon them.
No other ‘privilege’ is equal to this.

Are they discarding this and praying for Duty Free Car Permits, to make a fast Ten Million bucks profit on each?

If this request is allowed any MP can form his or her own party and be a party leader. We may end up with 225 party leaders instead of 225 MPs. Another first for Sri Lanka.

    • 1
      1

If this request is disallowed then there is no national government either cause SLFP is not a recognized party per above argument and only UPFA. For UPFA to sign a agreement UPFA executive committee has to authorize and not the president/chairman. So the formed national government is a null and void :-) UPFA will have to first put the proposal to the executive committee and then the executive committee has to approve it before it can sign it with the UNP…Also if the above argument is not true…several TNA MPs who are leaders will loose their party leadership status as well cause they are from different parties in the TNA…:-)

When parties join a coalition they are no longer considered individual parties since they get elected from the joint vote base of the coalition and not from the individual party vote. These four idiots were never recognised as party leaders as long as MR was in power. The only time they got this recognition was during the interim government. This was done by MRs brother the speaker to throw a spanner in the works of the interim government. The task of sabotage was carried out quite well by these scoundrels for that short period. The media went to town reporting on the utterings of these four idiots as if they were the government. Well those days are gone Mr Speaker. I am confident that you will do what needs to done with their letter by throwing it into the dustbin.

It is about party leaders who contested. The Gang of four contested under UPFA, and there is only 1 slot for party leadership.
