Sri Lanka & Israel: Parallel Legacies As Geo-Conscious States

By Niranga Indrajith Hettiarachchi

Niranga Indrajith Hettiarachchi

In the grand narrative of civilizations, few lands embody the spiritual, cultural, and historical confluence as vividly as Sri Lanka and Israel. Each of these nations carries a profound narrative, steeped in antiquity, that continues to echo through the corridors of time, influencing not only their own destinies but also offering insights into the universal human condition. As we explore these two distinct yet remarkably parallel geo-conscious states, we find more than just historical chronicles; we discover the blueprints of human spirituality and resilience.

The Essence of Geo-Conscious States

Both Sri Lanka and Israel transcend their geographical boundaries, morphing into landscapes that are as much metaphysical as they are physical. In Sri Lanka, the ancient name ‘Lanka’ is almost mythical, woven intricately into the fabric of the Rāmayāna where it describes a land of formidable beauty and spiritual profundity. Meanwhile, Israel’s biblical narrative gifts it a mosaic rich with divine promises and prophetic encounters, a land where every stone and site has a story, a sermon, or a prayer associated with it.

Sri Lanka’s Spiritual Fabric

Sri Lanka, with its serene Buddhist monasteries and vibrant Hindu temples, is a testament to a living history that dates back thousands of years. It’s a place where the spiritual journey of Prince Siddhartha to become the Buddha intertwines with tales of kings and sages. The island’s significance in both the Pali Canon and Mahāyāna texts underscores its role as a spiritual beacon, influencing Buddhist thought across Asia. The Rāmayāna’s portrayal of Lanka as the realm of Rāvanā, a figure of both might and erudition, adds layers of complexity to the island’s character. This narrative enriches the Sri Lankan ethos, not as a mere backdrop for epic battles, but as a ground where moral and spiritual dilemmas play out, mirroring the eternal struggles of man.

Israel’s Prophetic Landscapes

Similarly, Israel stands as a custodian of Abrahamic faiths, where every alley in Jerusalem, every desert in Judea, and every hill in Galilee speaks of ancient prophets and pivotal biblical events. It’s a land marked by continuous cycles of exile and return, destruction and renewal – a testament to enduring faith amid the often-tumultuous existence of its people. The name ‘Israel’ itself, derived from the biblical patriarch Jacob’s transformative encounter with the divine, encapsulates a nation’s continual struggle and dialogue with God. It is this unyielding spirit of questioning and faith that has defined the Jewish people, from antiquity to the establishment of the modern state of Israel.

The Rāmayāna Revisited: Beyond Rāvana and Sitā

While Ravana and Sita offer powerful symbols of knowledge and spiritual awakening, other aspects of the Rāmayāna play significant roles in shaping Sri Lanka’s spiritual landscape. Hanumān, the divine monkey warrior, represents loyalty and strength, embodying the power of devoted service. His search for Sitā in the forests of Lanka highlights the island’s role as a place of trial and spiritual quests. The presence of such diverse characters within Lanka’s mythological framework illustrates the complex interplay of virtues and vices, each contributing to the island’s deep spiritual resonance.

Lankāvatāra Sutra: Buddhā’s Teachings in Lanka

The Lankāvatāra Sutra, a cornerstone text in Mahāyāna Buddhism, further cements Sri Lanka’s role as a spiritual nexus. The sutra, which presents a dialogue between the Buddha and the Bodhisattva Mahamati in Lanka, delves into the nature of reality, perception, and consciousness. It reinforces the notion of Lanka not just as a physical island but as a metaphysical space where profound spiritual insights are revealed—a place conducive to deep meditative realization and understanding.

Parallel Narratives and Shared Wisdom

The essence of being geo-conscious states means that both Sri Lanka and Israel hold within them a universality that resonates well beyond their territorial limits. These lands remind us that our most profound truths are often rooted in our deepest trials and tales. For both nations, their historical and mythological narratives offer global lessons on resilience, faith, and the perennial search for meaning.

Unveiling the Spiritual Epicenter: Sri Lanka’s Geo-Conscious Legacy

As we delve deeper into Sri Lanka’s profound spiritual legacy, it is essential to explore the multifaceted dimensions that contribute to its status as a geo-conscious state. This expansion involves examining additional elements of its rich historical and mythical narrative, the impact of colonial legacies, and its potential to unify disparate spiritual teachings into a cohesive understanding that can guide humanity towards a more enlightened future.

Known to its ancient inhabitants as Lanka, and revered in both historical texts and mythical lore, Sri Lanka’s rich tapestry of history and spirituality positions it uniquely as a geo-conscious state—a place where geography and consciousness merge to reveal profound global significance. As we explore this concept, let us delve into the spiritual and mythological dimensions that propose Sri Lanka as not merely an island but a central spiritual hub of the world.

Contemporary Challenges and Spiritual Insights

Today, both Sri Lanka and Israel grapple with the modern challenges of nation-building and peace, their ancient narratives providing both solace and solutions. Sri Lanka’s journey through and beyond its civil strife speaks to a reconciliation that is deeply rooted in its Buddhist teachings on compassion and impermanence. Meanwhile, Israel’s ongoing conflict continues to be informed by prophetic visions of justice and reconciliation.

Lessons from Sri Lanka’s Conflict in Mediating Middle Eastern Peace

The protracted conflict between the Sinhalese and Tamils in Sri Lanka bears notable parallels to the enduring strife between Israel and Palestine. Both conflicts are deeply rooted in historical grievances, ethnic divisions, and a battle for territorial legitimacy. Just as the Sinhalese and Tamils have grappled with issues of political representation, language rights, and cultural recognition, Israelis and Palestinians have contended with similar challenges over national identity, statehood, and the right of return. These disputes have not only led to decades of violence and suffering but have also deeply influenced the social and political landscapes of the respective regions. Sri Lanka’s eventual progression towards reconciliation, emphasizing dialogue and understanding, provides a hopeful precedent for Middle Eastern peace efforts, suggesting that even the most entrenched conflicts can find paths toward resolution through sustained engagement and mutual respect.

Concluding Reflections in Current Global Context

In these challenging times, where global tensions are high and the threat of widespread conflict is real, Sri Lanka’s ancient wisdom offers a beacon of hope. The teachings of compassion and peace, rooted deeply in Sri Lankan culture through the spiritual insights of Lord Buddha, are not mere historical remnants; they are vital, living principles that have the power to guide not only Sri Lanka but also the entire world towards greater harmony and understanding.

As we face the possibility of escalating conflicts, such as those involving Israel, Sri Lanka’s role as a spiritual exemplar becomes increasingly significant. Let us celebrate and uphold Sri Lanka’s potential to influence the world, not just as a passive observer of history but as an active shaper of it, reaffirming its place as the Spiritual Heart of the World. This commitment to spreading compassion could be the key to navigating our global challenges, steering us away from conflict and towards a path of peace and collective well-being.

Oh….so beautifully written Niranga Indrajith Hettiarachchi. I loved it. You make our Motherland quite lovely. I also see and feel these things about Sri Lanka.

Still that does not mean we have to merge with India for it. We do quite well by ourselves, except for the fact the Ranil and other capitalistic governments want us to look Western, and for the start, have Westerners sunning themselves in bikinis on our shores so as to balance out the budgets of the West….hence the India merge drive with all of its shared spirituality.

As for Israel, this does not mean that Europeans of 75% and less of Israelite blood should take over Palestinian lands (Palestinians who are over 75% Israelite). These Ashkenazi Jews need to relocate to the West as they have more European blood, and places like America should open up immigration for the over 2.8 million of them. They are also suffering in Israel, but have no other place to go to. Then the suffering Palestinians can then go back to their own land.

Leaving the baseless zionist propaganda that “Palestinians have no land called their own” aside, will Europe, UK or US admit any Palestinian from Palestine, whom they call “terrorists”, except to their jails?

Dude, lets talk for starters about Palestine. Forget Israel a murderous occupying modern state,. and the Western Judeo-Christian, Euro-American Colonialist, Zionist project to Divide and Rule Palestine which was a multicultural and multi-faith land because of its GEOSTRATEGIC LOCATION, just like Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean trade Energy and Submarine Date Cable Routes.

All the Bullshit about Red Cows and the Rapture of the CIA and NED funded Evangelical Churches of and for ZION is to cover up the on going US -NATO war machines massacre of innocent Palestinian children, women and men.
Let’s also talk about how the West desperate for military bases staged Jakarta Method Cold War operations to Divide and Rule Lanka with Riots/ progroms like in 1983 with Yankie Dickie JRJ to divide and rule and get US bases. Sinhalas and Tamils and Muslims had lived together for CENTURIES before the Cold War proxy war staged in Lanka as an internal Ethnic Conflict. The US NATO war machine is still desperate for military bases in Lanka like the Indians — hence the IMF Debt trap as a new COld War ramps up against China and the Asian 21st Century!

rtf, It is very dangerous for you to try to relocate the dispersed Ashkenazi Jews of Europe and Russia, or even the Sephardic Jews of Spain, Africa and Middle East, out of the land, Creator God gave to them for his purpose of redeeming humans through Jesus.

As many Sephardic Jews on Palestinian lands as Ashkenazi Jews. But their blood is closer to the region than the Ashkenazi’s. Being closer to Israel, they have been having close ties to the original Israelites right throughout their exiles.

Yes, God is indeed awaiting the people of his race, the Palestinians, to reoccupy the lands they have been driven away from by Europeans of negligible Jewish blood. And they can be Muslims all they want, because they too believe in Jesus as the divine person come to save mankind, sent by God.
“Muslims believe that Jesus (called “Isa” in Arabic) was a prophet of God and was born to a virgin (Mary). They also believe he will return to Earth before the Day of Judgment to restore justice and defeat al-Masih ad-Dajjal, or “the false messiah” — also known as the Antichrist.Dec 20, 2019”

                  David,

Being of agnostic nature prone to Buddhism, I will hold both sides because that’s when the truth comes out for peaceful and humanistic solutions.

I always found it hard to understand how God let his son be crucified, but I reassure myself that was God’s ultimate sacrifice for humanity (God himself felt the pain of the crucifixion….he being Jesus actually, albeit Jesus being called his Son….., ok, ok, all kinds of flowing transubstantiation things happen in the divine realms). Come to think of it, the angel never told Mary that her son was going to be crucified, although Simeon and Anna told Mary that a sword would pierce her heart. Guess the angel had to tell her that or she wouldn’t have accepted the Immaculate conception.

Whatever the set of beliefs in-between, the end behavior of the human-graph going to infinity is that Christ will come again and save those of his own blood who he loves dearly as they his own people, and then the rest of mankind that will accept him. Sits exactly with the reason why Palestinians of 75% of Israelite blood should reoccupy their God-given lands., and the Ashkenazi Jews should go back to the places they originated from, or to countries of the New World like America.

It will be far more peaceful and easier for Europe and places like America to take back these Ashkenazi Jews because they will sit more naturally there being of same blood. Sending the angry Palestinians to Europe and America will only create anarchy in these places. Things like the Islamic Caliphate arise out of anger, despair, and desperation. Muslims otherwise are a peaceful lot, although their Shariah culture is horrendous.

Ramona is right. Allah, Jehovah, and God are the same.
He is Allah in Malay and Arabic churches, God in English-speaking churches, Deviyanvahanse in Sinhala churches, and many other names.
Actually the Muslim and Jewish Gods are different from the Christian version. The Christian God has a son and a mother. Neither the Jewish or Islamic God has these.
Christians have idols in their churches. Jews and Muslims don’t. So, which God is the real one?

old codger, There is only one God who created the heavens and the earth and angels and humans, which is how the bible starts. His name is Jehovah God in whatever language like Jesus is the same. Jehovah will not tolerate Allah name given to him. Exod.20 has 10 commandments and says ” I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other gods before me………. showing mercy to thousands who love me and keep my commandments” Christians pray to “Our Father who art in heaven, holy is your name. Let your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.” It is called the Lord’s prayer all children know and was taught by Jesus in Luke 11. There are no other gods except the pretender devil.

No , it isn’t. Open a Sinhala or Tamil Bible and see what God is called. In Arabic Bibles, it is Allah. “Etymologically, the name Allah is probably a contraction of the Arabic al-Ilāh, “the God.” The name’s origin can be traced to the earliest Semitic writings in which the word for god was il, el, or eloah, the latter two used in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Allah is the standard Arabic word for God and is used by Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews as well as by Muslims. “

old codger, Only Jehovah God created the universe at which time there was no Allah. 4000 years after creation and fall of man due to sin of disobedience, God birthed Jesus into the world to redeem humans from sin and sickness. After the resurrection and ascension of Jesus and release of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, to be celebrated this year on March 19th. Then Allah and Islam appeared with Mohamed from Mecca who came to Jerusalem saying he rode a horse to heaven and since then the struggle of Muslims to establish a caliphate on Temple Mount where earlier only Jehovah’s Temple stood, destroyed several times and then rebuilt. Antisemitism keeps getting stronger daily if people ignore the Creator God Jehovah.

                David,

1.In the beginning, Europeans of negligible Jewish blood were holocausted and chased out of Europe.

                2. Millions upon millions of them fled to Palestine as they had no other place to go.

3.But there was not enough room for them to stay. In desperation, they resorted to terror tactics.

                4. They forcibly uprooted and killed the peaceful Palestinians residents of 75% and more of ancient Israelite blood, who had lived there for over 4,000 years since God spoke to their father Abraham, and stole their lands.

                5. Thus did Palestinians became freedom fighters with Hamas and Hisbullah as their recourse, to secure their rights for the sake of themselves, their children, and their children’s children.

                5. Resolution: Resettle these excess Europeans of negligible Jewish blood in their original countries or in lands of the New World, especially America. They too are seeking for a better deal for they too have suffered much.

Even “God” isn’t in the original Greek Bible.. The words used are Deos, Kyrios, and Pater.

A bit of a stretch in attempting to show “historical confluence” between Sri Lanka and the modern state of Israel, the latter created by European colonial settlers in the 20th century. Are the current people of the state of Israel, at least those in charge of Israel today, the ‘custodians’ or ‘owners’ of the land that gave the world the Abrahamic religions.
I am also curious on what lessons the conflict in Sri Lanka can give to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Given the Sri Lankan state has only paid lip-service to reconciliation, the following inaccurate statement does not in anyway show that Sri Lanka has anything to offer to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict:
“Sri Lanka’s eventual progression towards reconciliation, emphasizing dialogue and understanding, ….”

“As we face the possibility of escalating conflicts, such as those involving Israel, Sri Lanka’s role as a spiritual exemplar becomes increasingly significant”
    Spiritual exemplar? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
A place where the highest religious dignitaries approve of killing suspects without trial? A place where, over 75 years, at least 300,000 have died violently? Where another religious dignitary openly admits to have voted for a murderous thug who went on to become the worst leader this country ever had?
Are we not being unfair to Mr. Pol Pot if we don’t include Cambodia as an ” spiritual exemplar”? After all, Cambodia has more and better temples than Sri Lanka, and has killed even more of its own citizens.

Author NIH, Parallel legacies between these two countries is a bit far fetched. Israel worships the creator Jehovah God who has a specific purpose. Sri Lanka is still mainly a Buddhist country whose beliefs were originally influenced by the Hindu Siddhartha Gauthama from India, hence worshipping a different god.

Paul, You may be right. Yet I think they do not worship the creator Jehovah God who has a specific will and purpose. I understand nirvana to mean to vanish and never come back again. That definitely will not happen as all humans after death are resurrected and judged. Heb.9,27 says “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” It has already happened to Jesus and many others which proof is sufficient. Hoping to vanish without any accountability for wrong done here, may lead to unexpected trouble.

        • 1
          0

They do not worship (in the Christian sense) anyone. Nibbana is not annihilation. How can it be when they say there is nothing to annihilate?
          .
Religions are based on incomprehensible things. The creation of the universe, God, Allah, Maha Brahma, Ahura Mazda and other myths. Buddhism is based on reality, the existence of Dukkha, something that we can all individually test and verify for ourselves. We then have a solid, proven foundation.

The author must have been smoking something to say this:
“Sri Lanka’s eventual progression towards reconciliation, emphasizing dialogue and understanding, provides a hopeful precedent for Middle Eastern peace efforts,….”

The only thing that happened in SL was an armed struggle that was brutally suppressed, with no political solution, no war crimes investigations, no sense of justice for the Tamil victims, and no reparations. And you call that reconciliation, dialogue, and understanding?

As for Israel, far from being a holy land, it has always been a land of bloody conflicts. Its history was so bloody that anyone still believing in the Abrahamic religions must be utterly lacking in logic, integrity, and morality, or just plain crazy.

    • 1
      4

Agnos, You talk of peace for the Middle East. The moment Adam and Eve were created, Lucifer took peace off through deception. Since Abraham and his descendants were promised the land by God so that God’s law could be given and for the future prophesied for the life of Jesus on earth to save, heal, and deliver humans from sins, you accurately said that Israel had “bloody conflicts” The land is holy because a holy God’s kingdom rules over it through the biblical word. Abraham worshipped Jehovah God only. All past as well as future peace treaties will be broken. This is not logic but worship and belief in the fallen Lucifer devil after rejecting creator God.

      • 2
        0

I blame God for creating Lucifer. What a rigmarole…create a perfect world knowing you’ll fail, watch it fail, impregnate a woman to bear your son, allow him to be killed, claim that anyone who believes him will live forever, others will burn forever…sounds like something from the brothers Grimm.

            David,
In South America, the Spanish Christians put to death natives who indulged in human sacrifice. But Christians even now worship images of a man nailed to a cross, and claim to be drinking his blood. Isn’t that contradictory?

old codger, Need to understand christians have not done a human sacrifice. It was God who sacrificed his own son to free humans from sin. When christians take communion of bread and wine which Jesus led out from his last supper, the jewish Passover, He gave healing to us through his broken body, and pardoned our sin through his sinless blood, called the covenant of exchange. One of the 10 commandments is “Thou shall not kill” When christians obey Father and Jesus, their spirits get filled with the powerful Holy Spirit enabling power ministry to those who commit. Today 9th is 40 days after resurrection when he ascended to the Father, was glorified and the Holy Spirit will be released on the 19th (50days after called Pentecost) giving birth to the church.

                DTG
                Explain this then…
                The Crusades (1096–1291):
The Crusades were a series of religious wars initiated by European Christians to reclaim the Holy Land (Jerusalem) from Muslim control.
While the primary goal was to secure pilgrimage routes and protect Christian pilgrims, some Crusaders committed atrocities against Jews, Muslims, and even fellow Christians.
These acts of violence were often justified by religious fervor and a distorted interpretation of Christian teachings.
                The Spanish Inquisition (1478–1834):
The Spanish Inquisition was established by Catholic monarchs Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile to maintain religious orthodoxy.
Thousands of people, including Jews, Muslims, and suspected heretics, were tortured, executed, or forcibly converted to Christianity.
The Inquisition operated under the belief that religious purity required the elimination of perceived threats.
                The Salem Witch Trials (1692):
In colonial Massachusetts, a series of trials and executions took place, accusing people (mostly women) of practicing witchcraft.
While not exclusively Christian, the Puritan community’s religious beliefs influenced the hysteria and persecution.
Nineteen people were executed, and many more suffered due to unfounded accusations.
                Northern Ireland Troubles (1969–1998):
The conflict in Northern Ireland involved tensions between Protestant Unionists (often identifying as Christians) and Catholic Nationalists.
Religion played a significant role in the conflict, leading to violence, bombings, and assassinations.
Both sides committed acts of violence, often justifying them based on religious identity and political ideology.
All done in the name of religion.

If you know for certain someone is going to do something wrong, is it right to tempt them? Or may be Jehovah didn’t know for certain, in which case he isn’t all-knowing. It is his fault by any measure.

          Hello Paul,
The Brother’s Grimm have nothing in their Tales to compare with the the Biblical “Revelations”. Maybe the Author of “Revelations” invented LSD? Here is a sample “And out of the smoke locusts came down on the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth. 4 They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5 They were not allowed to kill them but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes. 6 During those days people will seek death but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them”
          Best regards.

“The only thing that happened in SL was an armed struggle that was brutally suppressed, with no political solution.”

Not true at all. The IPKF militarily intervened to implement the 13th Amendment. The LTTE chased them out, thinking a separate state was possible. Now that the LTTE is gone, the Tamils want the 13th Amendment again. When CBK was in charge, they tried to assassinate her after she offered watered-down devolution. We can go back to 1930, when SWRD offered federalism and Ponnambalam rejected it.

Re: “Hanumān, the divine monkey warrior, represents loyalty and strength, embodying the power of devoted service. His search for Sitā in the forests of Lanka highlights the island’s role as a place of trial and spiritual quests.”

The actual Lanka referred in Ramayana is not very far from Ayodhya, in the present day Chhattisgarh.

Rather regrettably, Ceylon got tangled with full throttle of Ramayana, and tangled up with burning since Ceylon became as Sri Lanka. No peace yet. Ceylon was a reasonably moderate nation prior to name change.

      Hello Fairmindedone,
It depends on when the Ramayana, and its many versions, were written. If Valmiki wrote it in around 300 BCE then he may have used the old name “Taprobana” (or similar) or possibly “Sihala” from which comes Seylan, Ceylon etc. The Greeks called it Taprobana in the 4th Century BCE, the Irish called it “Deprofane”in their oldest Tales. How did the Irish know of an island off the coast of India? The Picts claimed descent from the Scythians, however there is maybe a common Iron Age people that all three connect to. The Picts ancestors are called the Beaker Folk. The ancestors of Vijaya may have been the Iron Age Yamnaya and the Irish also have a Bell Beaker Ancestry. The Haplogroup R1b1 seems to follow the Neolithic expansion of the LBK (Linearbandkeramik) across Western Europe from the Caucusus https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3039512/ R1a seems to be another Steppe Haplogroup common in India and Sri Lanka
Apart from all that the chances that the Lanka of the Ramanaya is Sri Lanka is pretty remote. The earliest Puranas that possibly mention Ravana were written around 300 BCE about the same time as the Ramayana.

    Mr Hettiarachchi, you say:
“Meanwhile, Israel’s ongoing conflict continues to be informed by prophetic visions of justice and reconciliation.”

I dont quite understand this. Could you kindly give examples of these “visions of justice and reconciliation”? Did you mean to say “fails to be informed….”?

      Right on Marnel:
Hetti need to talk for starters about Palestine.

    Niranga Indrajith Hettiarachchi
This is an absolutely wrong comparison. Sri Lanka and Israel have completely opposite origins. Sri Lanka is the native land for Sinhalese whereas Israel was a land native to Palestine until 1948.
The writer should have compared the similarities between the US and Israel, both of which robbed lands from natives and built their settler colonies based on native blood and human and natural resources that belonged to the natives.

Champa, What a heavy burden the earth of the Creator God Jehovah has become for the people of the world looking for other roots based on native blood and human resources that belong to other natives. Get under the true God and become one family and you will not look around for divisions or try to create divisions. In a family, weaknesses and failures are accepted in love.

Try to create divisions? What do you mean? You cannot deny the fact how settler colonists built their empires on the backbones and riches of the countries they robbed.

      Hello Champa,
Where have you been hiding? Welcome back.
I think Native may disagree, the Vedda are the native people, just as the Indigenous Americans were not European. These are some of the Native Americans – Navajo,
Cherokee, Sioux, Ojibwe (Chippewa), Choctaw and Apache. For 20,000 years or so America (North and South) remained unknown to the Western or Eastern Civilisations. Then around 1000 years ago the Vikings had an outpost in Newfoundland and 500 years later Columbus brought the news back to Europe of these “unknown” continents.
But these American Natives are not the Majority now – there lands were stolen, their peoples wiped out and their way of life destroyed. The Sinhalese brought a Foreign Culture and Religion into Sri Lanka ( the Tamils probably did the same) displacing the original inhabitants and taking their lands. The fact that this happened more than 2000 years ago makes the Israeli comparison more apt. The Israelis did the same to the Philistines (Palestinians) with their leader Moses (if he existed as there is some debate about the Exodus and return).
      Best regards

Vedda is a tribe, not a race. Ceylon Tamil is a nationality, not a race. The Sinhalese are the only race native to Sri Lanka.
You say, “The Sinhalese brought a Foreign Culture and Religion into Sri Lanka ( the Tamils probably did the same) displacing the original inhabitants and taking their lands.” What foreign culture and what foreign religion did the Sinhalese bring to Sri Lanka? Can you name them.

Very good essay First of all, I must thank for it, I want to add some few words which were forgotten by writer. At the very begging we were animist. worshippers of our death relatives. at early morning mardala pullers singing song which is vouch for it. “heLu Helai Helaiya” Helu means what you exhausted from your body at hard work. HElaiya means Helavasiya (Lanka) citizen. In case of Hebrews or Israels they the ones introduced first Abrahamic religion to the world All the other Abrahamic religions is second to it As far as Indian religion is concern Hinduism or Chinese confuism is the oldest religion as far as Hinduism concern we treat its main god Shiva is our greatest enemy as he trying to rape our undisputed. queen Mandodary while her roaming in the forest. Letter she became wife of RAVANA.
