I hear Sampanthar shed “Aananthakaneer”(tears of happiness). Great! After this great achievement, now who need the UNHRC resolution, Internal or self determination?

Now Sampanthar can peacefully retire from politics and wait for the rest.

What are all these comedies man? Now the Tamil comedies are beating the Sinhala comedies in their quality and achievement!

    Great news.
The significance of this is more on the Sinhala people. The seed has been planted in their mindset that Tamils are their brothers and sisters

My brother Rajash. You have always been our brother, even when LTTE was bombing Colombo and killing Sinhalese.

Time has come for you (Tamils) to express your solidarity by accepting Sri Lanka as their country while giving the due recognition for Sinhalese in Sri Lanka as the majority.

Tamils and Muslims should understand that they have their freedom and due recognition only because of Sinhalese. I mean not Sinhalese politicians, but Sinhalese people. We all agree that all politicians are corrupted bas****s regardless of their ethnicity.

Work with Sinhalese people and make this country the best place on earth !!

Working with mutual understanding with the Sinhala people in general is not the problem. It has never been so and it is not so now, but its the few ulterior-thinking politicians some followers, both lay and religious, who promote a Buddhist extremist thinking in the ordinary people, are the problem. It is when the ordinary Sinhalese reaalise the fraudulent intensions of these few extremists, general mutual understanding among all sections of the people can be strengthened. The present Govt. has begun taking some meaningful steps, and more should be done. Such steps can be slow but should be deliberate.

          My brother ,
While I agree with you 100%, i must say that some roots of the extreme Sinhalese/Buddhist cause has been started from Muslim extremism, weather you agree or not.

When you look at what is happening all around the world and in Sri Lanka, they (Sinhalese/Buddhist) are having a very reasonable doubt that Muslim are going to take over Sri Lanka from them. That’s a fair fear and a justifiable reason to act swiftly.
To be very honest, this is the BIGGEST fear Sinhalese/Buddhist have over Muslims today.

So please stop trying to increase Muslim population to over shadow the majority Sinhalese/Buddhist. Try to live in harmony with them, instead of trying to take them over. Please !!!

I really don’t want to see another war between Sinhalese/Buddhist and Muslims !!!

          A true Sinhalese brother

The talk of Muslim extremism, whether in Sri Lanka or anywhere, started only withn the last ten years or so. We are discussing Sri Lanka where the foundation for Sinhala Buddhist extremism was laid with the introduction of the Sinhala only Act followed by the use of Buddhism for political objectives by power-seeking Sinhala Buddhist politicians to outdo one and another. The first Sinhala Buddhist extremist outfit among civilllians backed by interested Politicians was the Bauddha Jathika Balavegaya, led by N. Q. Dias, L.H. Metthananda, Nissanka Wijeratne and the likes, which led a campaign particularly against the Christians was founded in the 1960s during the Srimavo Government. Similar organisations, with extreme Sinhala Buddhist agendas, came into being under different names from time to time. And this is what that led to the communal, racial and religous conflicts by which Sri Lanka suffered for several decades. That is stark history. Muslim never sowed the seeds of extremism in Sri Lanka. It came from a few sinister Sinhala Buddhist politicians who used Sinhala Language and Buddhism for political objectives which caused responses and reactions from other sections of the peodple.

There is no reason to believe that paranoid Sinhala/Buddhists have reasonable doubts.

Paranoid Sinhala/Buddists believe that the entire world is against them.

From Indians, Tamil Nadu Tamils, Up country Tamils, Tamils of this island, Diaspora Tamils, USA and the west, Marsians, Aliens from planet of Apes, Maldivians, …… South Africans, are queuing up to invade over and eventually rule this Sinhala/Buddhist island.

The new invented enemy is the ISIS.

I suggest go have your head examined before typing the most ridiculous claims.

              Native Wedda/Marzooks,
You have denied public facts given in WIKI. You are welcome to publish stats if they suggest otherwise. Until then, what’s published remains as reality.

I guess your definition of Paranoid Sinhalese = BBS, MR, Gota, Champika etc. But i don’t represent them.

The truth is, if you speak to any Sinhalese/Buddhist/Christian or Hindu in this country, 99% of them will tell you that, they fear that the Muslim population could over take the rest in the future. Paranoid or not, that remains the truth. Please deal with it. Denial won’t help neither party.

Hey, let do a small test….

              DEAR READER,
IF DENY WHAT I HAVE MENTIONED, PLEASE DISLIKE THIS POST,
ELSE PLEASE LIKE IT. WE ALL COULD SEE THE TRUTH…

              Good day brothers

                Huna,
Including the Christians and Hindus as having fears of Muslims over-taking them is your fantastic invention. The fact is that Christians and Hindus too live in fear of the extremist Buddhists. The fear of the Muslim population overtaking the Buddhists too is a fantastic ‘gundu’ fed to the innocent and gullible minority section of the Buddhists by the scheming politicians. You can still see MR in his delusions of fear of his political time coming to an end has renewed his communal orchestration. You will be doing real good for peace and harmony in Sri Lanka by not subjecting yourself to this gundu.

              You are right on Native.

you also heard that Sri Lanka is considering giving asylum to other nationalities? Maybe you should let Huna and others know about it. That means we co- exist and share. No need to panic or get afraid :)))
And all will sing the national anthem in the language of their choice – karaoke style.

          My brother Marzookz,
You did not answer my point, rather you talked about history. well, we can talk all day long about the history. But it doesn’t help anyone.

Check the given link to statistics of Muslim population in EU today.
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_in_the_European_Union_by_Muslim_population

This is why Europeans have panicked. This is why Norwegians, Swedes and Germans have started assault rampages on Muslims. So Sri Lanka is not isolated. Sinhalese/Buddhist are afraid that the only country for them in the world could be lost in the future if things go as it is. This is the bitter truth. Like it or not, this is the truth and the reality.

The million dollar question is, do Muslims in Sri Lanka realize? Do they really try to increase it’s population and take over the Sinhalese/Buddhist.

If the answer is if they do and don’t act like so, i’m so relieved and glad. If not hmmmmm……. it’s ticking bomb !!

Firstly there is no evidence provided by any credible authorities in Sri Lanka that Muslim births are increased deliberately to over-take the Sinhala-Buddhist population. Such talk is done in kope kades. Secondly, credible stastics provided show that taking the rate of births among all the communities the Sinhala-Buddhist community’s population cannot be exceeded by any other even for the next hundred years. The propaganda of Muslim threat in Europe is another overorchestration for political objectives, and the reality is different. Of course as Islam happens to be a religion mostly discussed and debated in the West there is an increasing interest shown people of other religins towards Islam and many of them choose to embrace the religion. That is the reality.

“Indeed, the Tamils and Sinhalese ARE brothers and sisters.”

Yes, Indeed!. They are Para brothers and sisters from India, in the Land of Native Veddah Aethho.

        The Proof is given below.

Mitochondrial DNA history of Sri Lankan ethnic people: their relations within the island and with the Indian subcontinental populations.

        Journal of Human Genetics (2014) 59, 28–36; doi:10.1038/jhg.2013.112; published online 7 November 2013

        Lanka Ranaweera1,3, Supannee Kaewsutthi1,3, Aung Win Tun1, Hathaichanoke Boonyarit1, Samerchai Poolsuwan2 and Patcharee Lertrit1

“Through a comparison with the mtDNA HVS-1 and part of HVS-2 of Indian database, both Tamils and Sinhalese clusters were affiliated with Indian subcontinent populations than Vedda people who are believed to be the native population of the island of Sri Lanka.”

It took a great deal of work to get to this point.
But, alas, in the North the ruling army made the Tamils sing the anthem in Sinhala with the slightest nod of command: http://www.tamilnet.com/art.html?catid=79&artid=38123 (CT, please let the South see what happens in the North – the reluctance of media in the South to publish certain news items in the last 5/6 decades has been supporting the misleading of Sinhala masses by malicious politicians).

What happens if Gotha returns as Defence secretary again which he is trying very hard through a Sinhala upheaval using racism?

The decline of the influence of the Mahinda Rajapakse, his family, kith and kin; although late has begun. Their present brave words of return to power and so on are like the noice of the excaping gas. Similarly the MR clan will soon completely disappear from the political scene. Cannot it be noticed that Chamal Rajapakse, the quiet and maturned person, is seen gradually moving away from associating with the MR clique. That is one indication of the impending decline of the MR clan. So have no fear of a return of Gota to power. Also, as the trend of realisation in the people has now begun a reversal to another MR era can definitely be ruled out.

Both versions of this anthem were sung in 1949. Why was this practice discontinued. Anyway Great it was restored .Congrats to this govt.

Good point, the fact that the Tamil version was dropped after 1949 is also symbolic as that is probably the start of the decline of the country, thanks due to the majoritarianism or Sinhala hegemony of the country. Ceylon as the country was then known, was far advanced of most other Asian countries in 1949 and Sinhala hegemony ensured the country stayed stagnant for decades.

I have no idea what is in the article for it has been blacked out.

However I congratulate the government for its right thinking and plain guts. It shall not be cowed down by cowards, racists and bigots.

Everything may not be 100% perfect, but the major strides towards reconciliation and therefore towards a modern, inclusive society are being taken.

I wanted to post a lengthy comment after hearing this news. Due to lack of time, could not. First of congratulations, though it is baby step, i hope fervantly this small gesture will grow into motherly step. There are many anti-TN comments I have observed for many days atleast since I have been reading CT. I was young boy, probably that was the time I started understanding cricket and started playing at my schools, i remember a match between pakistan and Srilanka where we all at home glued to TV and praising Aravinde batting. ( Correctly 1988 Sharjha if I remember that match). we supported Srilanka in every match aginst Pakistan ( not against India), all these turned venom over years because so many unfortunate events, even now tamils from this side enevr treat all sinhalese as enemies but rabid rats like Gota and Mahind and ilks. gesture like these will be a step to grow trust between communities. Hope in same way the other compelling issues of Tamils there been resolved, any my wishes there with you. coomon guys, we want to again appreciate srilankan cricket like pre 1990.

Human societies function best when we are least legalistic and are most humiliated when laws and constitutions expand to embrace every available space in our lives; ranging from how we are to engage in sport, to where we may or may not worship and whether and how we should remember our dead. We are to consequently strive after a constitution of fundamentals that set us free to care for each other as we should, organise ourselves as we wish, pursue our varied human interests as we must and contest those whose obsession it is to control and restrict the lives of those they are mandated to enhance and liberate.
