Sri Lanka Trade Union Alliance Calls For Resignation Of Sirisena Brother “Horā”

The Sri Lanka Telecom Trade Union Alliance has demanded Chairman of SLT, Kumarasinghe Sirisena to resign from his post for allegedly committing financial extortions of SLT and Mobitel assets, and for his unethical business conduct.

Kumarasinghe Sirisena

Chairman of SLT, Kumarasinghe Sirisena

In a letter addressed to Sirisena, who is the brother of President Maithripala Sirisena, the unions said that since Kumarasinghe was appointed as SLT chairman, he has failed to work in a manner beneficial to the organisation. “We have observed your bizarre behavior, where you have tarnished the image of the SLT group, and have not done anything ethically or empathically for the benefit of SLT,” the letter sent on April 18, 2016 said.

The union alliance noted that SLT is a highly sacred place for over 8000 employees who earn their bread and butter, hence it was the unions’ duty to protect the organization from people who are harmful to it.

The unions also alleged that Kumarasinghe had utilized his position at SLT to provide employment for his son, who had also made several foreign trips despite being under probation.

The unions charged that Kumarasinghe had been involved in the violation of a tender procedure of Mobitel which resulted in an over Rs. 20 million loss on an insurance deal, while advertising contracts have also been given to an agency of President Sirisena’s daughter. “You have manipulated board minutes, which is detrimental to the company and also authorized documents, which you cannot, as you do not possess executive powers,” the unions said.

They also accused Kumarasinghe of appointing, R. Rubasinghe, who was interdicted, as CEO of SLT campus, while also insisting that the SLT Board of Directors approve a house rent of Rs. 750,000 apart from attempting to obtain a threefold salary increase by submitting a board paper.

They also accused him of removing Board Directors Thusitha Haloluwa and Cooray from their positions, and appointing Wegapitiya, a friend of Kumarasinghe, as a Board Director.

“Mr. Chairman, since the day you took up office, you have been involved in enormous scandals, which humiliates the prestige of the organisation. The money of this company is from the hard earnings of the hard labour by the employees, if you’re intentions is to plunder company money, then we as a trade union sincerely and very humbly request you to resign from this position without getting branded as a horā (thief),” the letter added.TTTTTT

CT please dont allow to attack the person this way. It is being under investigation. This can leave some credibility to your Organizsation as a good forum us lanken expats to exchange/discuss our thoughts. Besides, if you support the culprits the kind of Rajakashe supporters Then there will be no difference to previous regime and the current one.

I also in the view that his brother should resign and do something else wthin his capacities.

We remember the manner Dr. SB former CJ was treated while being sacked within 24 hours.

CT, pls disregard these kind of requests from hangers-on of the Yahapalan fraud alliance and sycophants.

What does this shithead mean by “if you support the culprits the kind of Rajakashe supporters Then there will be no difference to previous regime and the current one.”

The type of corruption of this “olubakka” Kumarasinghe and the other big business thief Dudley prove that they are 100 times worse than the Rajpakse hangers on.

The former CJ and her husband were also corrupt, way beyond the level a CJ should behave.

Sama go back for your left over yahapalana meal. Shame on you and others of your kind.

Yahapalanya means not only govt, each one of you guys are obliged to behave well.

If the current bunch would attack the men as Meeharaka led thugs did then… nothing would be different to previous adminstration.
These men that further stand by Meeharaka should be eleminated once for ever from lanka then only we can practise Good governance inthe country – no means possible.. every 2nd is a back stabber.
Alone reading these comments I feel, they are only on attack mode.

Good luck you guys. No longer, I will be part of CT. I think Sama is right here. We though need to go against culprits but not ot the manner as MR regime did it.

Maithipala Sirisena should be IMPEACHED for corruption and appointing his brother who has not qualifications to the SLT.

The President of Brazil is being impeached. Time to end the impunity of Sirisena who is a Jarapassa fan of corruption.

If for the single issue him to be impeached, then MR should have been slaughted and hung on the streets to convince the people the gravity of high profiles abuses he deliberately carried out with his bunch of thugs during the last few years alone.

        SLT Trade Union Alliance ,

Well done on bringing up this hot issue which is overdue for some time . now let me tell you guys this , if you are a professional union/organization/club/society , please act accordingly. your letter /complaint to the Chairman of SLT is not a professional one at all ,period . in fact it’s a poorly written , clumsy piece of work ! from start to finish , there are countless grammatical/structural errors . how on earth some one take your complaint seriously , if you can’t type a professional letter accurately ? can you afford to make such atrocious errors on such a vital matter ?

Please go through this complaint again and see how many blunders you have made ? if your union doesn’t have a professional writer , then the next best thing is to write it in Sinhala language , what’s wrong typing in sinhala ? Guys @ SLT ,this is really embarrassing !!!!!!!!!!!!

          cont….

First and foremost , SLT trade union needs to have a proper letter head , the one which is in used looks like an early to mid eighties letter head. for heaven’s sake don’t you have a web address or email to state , this is incredible , SLT is pioneered in providing state of art communication methods to whole island , yet their union neither have an email address nor a fax number !

The topic of the complaint is far too long , ideally it should have been
          few eye catching phrases .

DEMANDING OF IMMEDIATE RESIGNATION OF SLT CHAIRMAN OR

REQUEST TO STEP DOWN FROM THE CHAIRMAN POST

I should like to sincerely state that I enjoy listening to Maithripala Sirisena speak Sinhlala. His command of the language is so good!

Some time ago CT displayed some documents in English written by Mr P.G. Kumarasinghe. His English was poor. That used by the Union is worse.

It may be best for those who have not mastered this foreign language (English), to stick to Sinhala / Tamil. However, the country as a whole, needs a world language [English]. This is especially so in the field of Telecommunications.

Srilal, I’m afraid that you have been far from careful with your punctuation, and there ARE other mistakes as well! I know that typos sometimes creep in to my own writing, and being a Sri Lankan, my own actual English may require improvement! But the fact is that your own English is sub-standard, and you have the gumption to advise the Union! Oh, dear, where do we start putting things right in this country?

              Sinhala_Man ,

You’ve really got your wires crossed! what i am trying to do is , to highlight the gravity of the problem , in other words , a very serious issue of this nature should have been handled more carefully and professionally ,that is the whole point , period ! in order to elaborate the magnitude of the issue ,i have pin pointed few of the obvious errors here . of course my comments may have endless grammatical/structural/punctual/spelling errors , but it shouldn’t stop me commenting on such a vital matter .

You ought to know the difference between a comment and a professional letter, my friend Sinhala Man !

When Badurdin Mamu stopped the Tamils and Sinhalese from studying in the English medium and permitted Muslims to study in the English medium – Did you cry??
Then he topped it with low score entry to university for the Muslims- Did you cry?? Have you got reserved stockpiles of free energy from the Muslim world from 1970??

            Sri Lal,

Please don’t go over the top. It’s not a job application but a protest.

The memo surely is understood by the authority and that is the main thing.
Anyone who can merely highlight spelling mistakes and highlight grammatical errors needs to get a life.

              Zorro ,

“Please don’t go over the top. It’s not a job application but a protest.”

Precisely , it’s not a CV but a complaint . what sort of a complaint is it ? is it a complaint against your local “Maranadara Samithi ” president ? no it’s not , it’s against the very top person of the SL’s premier telecom provider , SLT !if the trade union can’t get their act together to draft a professional letter demanding the immediate resignation of their boss, they first need to clean up their own back yard .

“The memo surely is understood by the authority and that is the main thing.”

if one to go by your standards , there is no need to have such procedures in place ;accordingly , just have a brain storming session and then handover the findings , that’s it . is that the way professional organizations function ?

“Anyone who can merely highlight spelling mistakes and highlight grammatical errors needs to get a life. “

Really ? this reminds me the famous quote

On and on CT is bashing current President.

That is seen over the last few weeks alone.

May be they have no more interesting articles to be published on this.

You may count the points but this is the becoming reality.

Nepotisms we attacked was the way had been promoting by MR. I have no doubt, things would not be fine if his brother abused his position. But this can also be seen in europe too. Meaning not that I am going to underestimate the issues, we must not exagerate.
Current president is the only one who sensed it. But being caught by the situation, he has to take some stupid actions (appointing his men as ministers) too, to protect their alliance. Latter is clear to any sane but not to the radicals of your kind.

Yes, go ahead with the kind of attacks CT, …. you will see how your creibility declines.

All the few weeks, I happened to read on this platform varied articles written on President, his family, his brother bla bla bla. Most of them were filled with bashing attacks.. but when the murder of Thajudeen and the fate of the family today was announced, not many have added their thoughts.

See, the idling bashing guys of the kind MAX, BOOM BOOM are the surplus in the war torn country, They will even do all harm to CT for sure.

      We will see it.

      http://www.slt.lk/si/content/slt-chairman-counters-false-accusations

P G Kumarasingha Sirisena as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom wishes to explain that sources have published misleading articles tarnishing his image and character. As a responsible officer in the government sector for over 30 years, and as the present Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom Group he categorically denies these allegations leveled against him.
In reference to the allegation of awarding of the Mobitel insurance tender to Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation, he firmly assures that the initiative taken was to safeguard the organization and government interest as Sri Lanka Insurance is a state owned Corporation. The decision was to extend the existing contract with Sri Lanka Insurance by two months, therefore, giving sufficient time to make a more prudent decision to benefit both Mobitel as well as the investment of a government entity. The advantages to the SLT Group as a whole was considered in making this decision.
As the Chairman of a reputed listed company, his unstinted commitment to SLT as a company and to its subsidiaries is unquestionable. The alleged house rent matter was discussed due to the significant amount of time he spends on the road from home to office. Furthermore, he has not drawn any extra payment or any form of remuneration from the group as a salary or otherwise other than what was drawn by previous Chairpersons.
Therefore he wishes to inform responsibly that his sincere service for the state and its people through Sri Lanka Telecom will continue in good faith irrespective of the unsubstantiated allegations of affected under world business crooks who have been adversely affected by his presence in the Telecommunications industry of Sri Lanka.

This is what happens when a fellow with Gamarala qualification is appointed to a top job. This fellow is just a glorified bookkeeper.
Just like Banda went to town. He is a big time hora.

    • 1
      3

Dear Psycho, I think that you ought to be more precise in what you say.

Maithripala S. (your Gamarala?) is perfectly acceptable to me as President.

I don’t think that he ought to have appointed P.G. Kumarasinghe to SLT and Mobitel. Since being appointed some of P.G.K.’s actions have caused me, too, misgivings. By the way, isn’t it incorrect to add the name “Sirisena” to the name of this (and other) brother? The Sinhalese naming system is different from “Europeanised” system followed by most of us.

What does “Just like Banda went to town,” mean? I find it a nasty, sneering, way of talking.

Will he or his brother – the president of Sri Lanka – heed for this rather factual appeal from unions? Or at least the current runner of the country – the PM ? We’re watching!

Or else, shall we blame MR regime for this as well?

    • 5
      10

You should have the same blood group similar to that of Gonmanpila.

Dont you think that nepotism we called then was not the like one you address here. Nepotim we protested vehimently was the way MR regime promoted it. No matter what people say, MR and the pigs went through appointing their baggage boy to condom testers as their men in and out of country

      Examples are as follows:

a)On what ground they appointed that Jaliya Wickramsooriya or the man who then 5 years long served as an Embassador. His credentionals are no good enough to put the man as a bar keeper of a rural corner.

      b) Rajaapkshes siblings and offsprings took over any thing everyhing, as i dont want to pick one by one, tabloids can help you

      c) Even their house hold bagger carrying men were appointed as monitroing thugs.

Are these all comparable to the single example that the Current president has allowed ?

Besides, Mr Kumarasinghe is said to be qualfied for the job…now for some reasons he is to answer, the investigations will be held… and i have no doubt current president will take his side, if accusations are right.

Kumarasinghe Sirisena is as bad as the brother of Arjuna. Both should be asked to resign before they damage the image of SLFP under the leadership of President Sirisena, who was elected to power for YAHAPLANAYA.

    History is slowly repeating itself.

One year into “Yahapalanaya”, we got scandals brewing in many of the same places, where nepotism and corruption has always been present. No matter which regime.

Sri Lankan Airlines, Ports Authority, Telecom, Central Bank & Ministry of Foreign Affairs to name a few.

Official opposition shows no real passion for these matters. The vacuum is being exploited by Coconut Thieves Collective.

It must be convenient for “Yahapalanaya” Sobitha Thero is not around any longer.

    Cheers!

This is an another poor country – called srilanka.

We can keep hopes, but nothing would work to the manner 1to 1 .. since we all know people are not imported. Srilankens in general are proxy corruption and abuses.. That is their culture. Basta

This shows a lot of courage and conviction on the part of the Trade Unions involved. No one would go to the extent that they have, unless there is good justification.

MS should ask him to go home.

This is one of the main reasons why Sri Lanka cannot progress, and why we will never be looked upon as a nation of honest people. It seems the Sirisena regime is following the same path as the rogues from the Rajapaksa regime. Being dishonest, and ripping off the country/people, seems to be part of their DNA, it seems to come naturally to them. Do they justify their corruption by saying “they did it, so why not us?”
Shame on Ranil for putting up with this, and letting the country down. He together with Sirisena promised to not go down that same path, but what do you know, we were fooled once again by the selfish and greedy politicians, and their opportunistic families. Nepotism and thuggery seems to be the curse in this country.

Maithripala has made some glaring errors with regard to how he indulges his family members, abusing his authority as President. The very first of these was his appointment of his brother as Chairman, SLT – one of his first appointments.

Now that the shit has hit the fan (for Ranatunge, as well) about the nepotism that we hoped would be history with the defeat of the Rajapakses, being alive and well, the best thing for MS to do would be to ask his brother to resign, at least until the investigation is concluded and wrongdoers (if any) are punished according to the law.

This would enable MS to extricate himself from this dilemma and wipe some of that egg off his face!

If this is true than it is a sad situation for Sri Lanka. Where do the public go to. MR was a rogue and now it seems like the Sirisena administration is not far from being called by that name too. We can’t be a patriotic nation when only cricket match is played. We should stand-up to all wrong doing. This is our country. It doesn’t belong to politicians as they make it out to be. They are all in it for the money.

I voted for Sirisena but I now want to give Anura Kumara Disaanayake a chance. Please stand-up sir!

Sri Lanka’s feudal political system has leaders appointing their unemployed and non-employable relatives and friends to state entities, which they treat as their private property. The appointees in turn pilfer these institutions and share their bounty with their masters.

Similar to the Telecom situation, the Singapore citizen appointed as the nation’s central banker has pilfered billions with impunity, and will flee the country the moment the regime changes.

Kudos to the trade unions for voicing their concerns in a very public way on behalf of the employees.

As several of the commentators have pointed out, it is virtually impossible for Sri Lanka to reach the status of a Singapore or Malaysia. The tragic consequences of appointing totally unqualified people to critical infrastructure institutions such as petroleum, telecom and power has manifested itself in power blackouts and other deficiencies.

The government knows that the general public will accept anything that that throw at them and bare everything with a whimper. They have become so docile and introvert, the rulers know there won’t be any mass revolt regardless of how tough things get or what they do with their power. There is a president who says that he learns of important government policies such as tax changes through media when in fact he should be the one to know first. Then there is a PM who comes from a high profile meeting with the Chinese and say “now we all have to go to Panama to find money.” Everyone in the top administration appear to acting like clowns and there are still people here who justifies everything on the basis that the previous administration did the same so it is OK.
We are giving our own politicians the leeway to do as they please because previous administration did the same. This is how we support our government. No wonder politician have no regard for the public as they know any uprising can be quelled by through some bones here and there. So they blatantly break every promise they make knowing very well , when it comes to the next regime change, win or lose, it does not matter as they all will be winners anyway.
All the big hopes that they had about punishing the previous regime has been dashed to pieces. Either they have not been able to find anything or they have no desire to do so, because they know next time around the favour will be returned. Will there be an uprising in Sri Lanka to get rid of all these clowns? Fat chance!

The Srilanka Telecom Trade Union has gone Public against its Chairman!

Kumarasinghe, what a sad story! A total reject of his own employees.

At least now this nation’s politicians and rulers should realize that people with the right qualifications should sit at the helm of prestigious blue chip companies such as SLT. this is an inept individual.

When his brother is the head of the natuon, there is very little the TUs can do to remove this fellow. Thus has been the norm in this sickening (politically) country.

One thing is for sure, this dude will never resign. He is banking heavily on his PRESIDENT BROTHER

MS will have to wake up now (if he is a trust worthy man) and get rid of his brother, the greedy fellow from the SLT, RW also should realize that it is time to wake up and do something correct ( he has appointed Mahendran, another greedy fellow)

The guy should have continued in his previous job as a Mudalali in his kade wherever he comes from. When you take a dry fish Mudalali and put him in a high profile job its like giving the horse horns.
At least the horse is a gracefull animal with brains, it knows when to muster all its strength at a given time, but buffalos like this who wallow in the mud of corruption all day long are a sore sight.
You can’t blame the buffalo, you have to blame the owner his brother, who is just a bit above him.

Give this bugger and the man who placed him in that position a good smart phone and ask them to discover all the power and uses of that device, and it will be like giving a monkey a razor blade.

Its a shame a crying shame that a——-s like this exist, but what can you do ????????????????????????

The trade Union has the right to bring such things to the notice of the President , PM and the Cabinet of Ministers for remedial action. So it is best that he resigns without creating further problems for his brother and the Government. We don’t want to see this Government following the footsteps of the previous Government

Dear President, When people who supported Yahapalana Govt.first heard of this appointment, they were thoroughly disappointed and dejected. Following this example Ravi K appointed his BIL while Arjuna appointed his brother Dhammika, who is already facing worker agitation to resign. What is important is for politicians to decide whether they value the opinion of fare minded people which can be millions or the personal well being of their kith and kin. Ranaweera

I was thinking that Sirisena/Ranil group will end this type of corruption which was prominent in the previous regime. If this group does the same, what I can say is, there will be no future for people in Sri Lanka. Please remember, there is no limit for greediness. It’s better to nip in the bud before it grows to be a monster. Mr. Sirisena/Ranil, please address these and other crawling investigations before people lose their patience.

Kumarasinha when he was at the state timber corporation cut the trees and made money. This man is becoming another Basil and should be brought before the FCID.Sirisena’s daughter has a agency of recent origin to funnel govt Contracts? what qualifications and skills does she have? I have lost all confidence in Sirisena and now as a last ditch effort I support Anura Kumara Dissanayaka. There again the former JVPer Wimal turned out to be a thief when he got the opportunity. The other JVPer Mahinda who got bombed in Beruwala got commissions from fisher folk and has a house in Los Angeles worth 750,000 dollars and his son drives a 700 series BMW.In this sense the proof of the pudding is in its eating. At times I feel that the only solution is for the people to indulge in frontier justice and hang the bastards from the street lamps.

So many undesirables who are under qualified have crept into the Govt.
sector and occupying top positions with the help of the President, PM & the ministers and working like mouse without making a noise and why should only Mr. Kumarasinghe Sirisena ‘show off’ and get the wrath of the media and the people, who voted for a Govt.to eradicate corruption & nepotism.

    Everything about SLT stinks.

One of the very first corrupt things to be committed by My3 was to appoint his sibling to head the SLT. From that corrupt act other corruptions flow on.

Sri Lankans are a doomed people. Every clean faced politician turns out to be rogue in disguise.

Why and How did this guy get the extra-ordinary power of changing board directors and to appoint his “Yes” men. If that is the case might as well have no Board and let there be a one man show.

The majority share holder is the Secretary to the Treasury (ST). Theoretically he has to run his Ministry under the directions of his Minister Ravi K. But the chap who appoints and sacks the ST is MS, whom we elected and wanted a change for the better for a land free of corruption. So he has to carry out MS’s side-orders. It appears that even RW too does not want to take these matters up as it will rock the boat really hard to the point of breaking the Government.

To say that ST is the shareholder is a myth. The shares are owned by the Government. He is the custodian or trustee of that share. If that is so, then it is the Cabinet who should appoint the Board members and not by the ST. He cannot arrogate himself the power of the Cabinet. The current ST is following the incorrect practises of his “illustrious” or “notorius” predecessor Dr. PBJ. He should first seek Cabinet approval and then engage in the real process of holding a share-holder’s meeting to appoint the Board. How did this guy come in to the office to be the Chairman the very first day? We all know that.

This opens another area. Harin is made the Minister in charge of the subject. But he has no authority other than to say that things are no good and behave well and the guy retorts to say that is none of his business. Why not transfer the cutodianship of so called Government share under the custody of the ST of all companies to an official under the respective Ministires who is appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers? That would ensure a proper evaluation process of the Board Members before appointment.

In reality Kum Sira’s appointment as Chairman of the Group is not valid. So he can be packed off in the same manner that Mohan P. was packed off as CJ.

Today’s public servants pander to the wishes of politicians elevate them as all powerful. People get elected, and say don’t call me as “Uthumaano” or the first lady as “Aaryawa” but things that are done under the table can be terrible. If this is the performance for One Year and four months what would it be at the end of Five Years? In this debacle RW too has his fair share of the blame.

When a Trade Union is involved it is fishy.

May be the Trade Union supportive of Mahinda Rajapakse who is trying to save his children from murder cases and money laundering.
