Students For Human Rights Condemns Govt. Attempt To Arrest Student Activists

The Students for Human Rights has today condemned the Government’s attempt to arrest student activists who participated in the protest march organized by the Inter University Students’ Federation.

SudentsIssuing a statement convener of the Students for Human Rights , Ramindu Perera says; “The right to dissent and the right to express that dissent are inalienable rights of the people. The repression that is levelled against the students’ movement today will rise against every other struggle in the coming days. We have already seen how the government uses this violence against people’s struggles, in Katunayake, Rathupaswala and Chilaw. Therefore we plead with every force, organization and force that appreciates values of democracy and freedom to condemn this repressive behaviour of the government and to fight unwaveringly to defeat these efforts.”

We publish below the statement in full;

A protest march from University Grant’s Commission to the Temple Trees, headed by the Inter University Students’ Federation was held on 7th May 2014 with the participation of thousands of students. The protest demanded for the reinstatement of the four year Allied Health Sciences degree and dropping the unjust suspensions against 27 student activists of University of Rajarata. It is reported that preparations are being made to arrest the student leaders who headed this protest.

On the previous day, the police had taken measures to obtain a restraining order against the protest march in the Fort Magistrate Court. Media reports claimed that the restraining order was taken due to the World Youth Conference that is being held in Colombo. The government is now attempting to arrest the students based on this restraining order.

We believe that this move by the police raises critical issues with regards to not only the student community’s right to organize and freedom of expression but also that of the broader masses. AHS students and Rajarata students have been organizing and participating in sit-in actions at Anuradhapura, Peradeniya, Galle and Colombo Fort for more than 150 days demanding solutions for their problems. The rulers have not given any solution to these problems. When the rulers adopt education policies in violation of the students’ right to education, students are left with no other option than to organize against such policies and express their dissent. In a democratic society masses must be entitled with the right to organize in order to protect their interests and freedom of expression.

However, in the recent past we noticed a pattern of the government obtaining restraining orders to obstruct such protests and rallies. A similar protest march was organized by the IUSF on the 19 the of March from the University of Kelaniya to Colombo and a similar court order was obtained against that as well. Do these students, who are victims of gross injustice, have any other option other than to express their dissent through peaceful demonstrations? If the government is violating the right of the people to peacefully protest in the guise of Youth Conferences or any other reasons, should we not identify it to be an assault on the democratic rights of the people.

The right to dissent and the right to express that dissent are inalienable rights of the people. The repression that is levelled against the students’ movement today will rise against every other struggle in the coming days. We have already seen how the government uses this violence against people’s struggles, in Katunayake, Rathupaswala and Chilaw. Therefore we plead with every force, organization and force that appreciates values of democracy and freedom to condemn this repressive behaviour of the government and to fight unwaveringly to defeat these efforts.

Bravo and hats off the the Inter-uni Students Union for having the guts to challenge the corrupt and criminal Rajapaksa regime and the uneducated morons who are Ministers of Education and Higher Education today..

The Jarapassa cabinet of corrupt clowns is destroying every sector- education, health, transport, sports and these corrupt politicians must be challenged on the streets and in courts.

Impoverished students were protesting on the streets of Colombo while the UN Global YOUTH conference was taking place in 5 star hotels.. two different Worlds.. divided by inequality that is the hall mark of globalization…

Never the twain shall meet! Protest is the only way to narrow the divide..

Students were brave to demonstrate but they are not going to get anywhere:

Maharajapakse siblings, the armed forces, police and the judiciary are all in it together. Who else do they need?

Repression is the name of the game. Nobody can do anything about it.

Didn’t more than half the students participating in the demonstration vote for this repressive regime? If they did, they asked for it!

‘Right to dissent and right to express that dissent’ must be done without being a nuisance and a pain to the general public. No one has the right to cause inconvenience to the general public.

Whenever dissenters made their dissent a general problem and an absolute inconvenience to the public, we the ordinary people get sick and tired of dissenters and their bloody dissents. It is then that the government should put a stop to it. I am positive the public will back the government.

Bando these very children who are protesting, are the sons and daughters, nieces and nephews of the riot Police and their relatives. None of the Politician’s offspring are in the demonstrating lot, where the riot police is providing protection to the Politicians. So you bugger understand this gimmickry will not go far, as all will turn against the politicians very soon. That day buggers like you will have to hide in the cess pits. Shit eating Pig.

      Banda

“Whenever dissenters made their dissent a general problem and an absolute inconvenience to the public, we the ordinary people get sick and tired of dissenters and their bloody dissents.”

You are not part of the ordinary people, you made your tupenny back in your mother country, and now comfortably settled in this island. You cannot and will not understand their problems. The students are not only fighting for their rights but also for the rights of future generations.

Almost all rights you enjoyed back in your mother country was fought and won by the ordinary people, much to the annoyance of the ruling elites. But then elites too continue to enjoy the rights which were hard won by the concerned poor working class.

“Any idea when will hadu Banda will be butchered?”

Probably he is angry about his father, unhappy about his partner and children who may not agree with grumpy old bigot, feels guilty being a tax dodger, lonely man, had bad experience with white racists, his idea of being “brown sahib” didn’t sit well with the white natives,

The man should enjoy rest of his life, reading Harry Potter novels, watching bit of Tom and Jerry cartoons when awake and dozing off under mango tree or peeping, groping, flashing a bit on the side, instead he believes he is a useful member of this forum.

Banda is a sad person please handle him with care.

Hope he is not going to die a bitter man.

          I wish him well.

        Vedda,
Sri Lanka is where I and all my known and unknown great grandfathers were born. So this is my mother land. I don’t know about you Vedda, but I have got back more than my share of what the British had plundered from my ancestors and I am proud of it.

I am no politician but an ordinary man who loves to live a simple life in a village hamlet. For that reason, I do not believe very many could analyse the thinking pattern of villagers better than I could. And MR has a political acumen to capitalise it.

Needless to say, most of those students in the images are from similar villages to mine. I bet, the bulk of them wanted to finish their education asap and get on to the next step of their life. Only one or two may wanted to be a professional student like that gang leaders who instigate and rule the mob.

These gang leaders hide their true characters and political motives and project to the public that they are the saviours of the future of all young people in Sri Lanka. Actually these are vicious but frogs in a well like characters who aim to ruin the lives of young people to test their political experiments. We have seen their follies firsthand before.

What constructive criticism these students have brought up to date and won? It’s all based on hate, destruction and nothing else. That’s why I say, these gang leaders have become an impediment to the future of the vast majority who cannot get selected to an established institution but are determined to better their future. Take it from me, anthare has no public backing or sympathy.

The Thumpane pig farm is where I and all my known and unknown great pig-fathers were born. From there I together with my pig-brothers and sisters were dumped into a meat lorry and transported to Dematagoda slaughter house. While all my cousin pigs were butchered I was spared by a pig lover from Madamulana because I was very fond of swallowing filth and left overs of the Walawwa. Another reason I was loved was my ugly squeal that I am used to emit after poking my dysfunctional dead rat into every whore-bore in the town. Everyone in the town recognizes me from afar due to the most revulsive stench that is associated with me as a result of the heaps and heaps of Madamulana garbage and filth that I gleefully swallow.

          Heeeeeeeee Heeeeeee Squeal………Squeal…. Heeeeeeee!!!

Students, you have done a brave thing. But your march was misguided to nowhere! Instead of to Araliyagaha den you must have gone to where the World Youth Forum is being held and show to the world the deception they are immersed in in Rajapaksha Sri Lanka. It is not easy to organize such a march but unfortunately you wasted a golden opportunity to leave a mark where it matters. At least now if you can go there with sufficient numbers and ask for an opportunity to speak in the forum you can make amends. But all this requires extreme braveness and sacrifice and if you can do that you will be great heroes. However I am greatly concerned about your safety and all those issues which are the very issues the elders are not coming out in numbers for public protests. This whole mess was created by your elders, parents, teachers and others by giving their valuable votes to a racist megalomaniac. It is ultimately you who are paying the final price. Rajapakshas would not let it go and they would fight tooth and nail. The flame of revolution is the youth. The youth who hits the deck ultimately would come forward to fight. Rajapakshas would unleash the their terror of suppression and decimation relentlessly. I don’t know what to say. I can’t ask you to make that sacrifice for the folly of your older generation.

Do these boys and girls protest only for themselves? How come no student from the South show any emotion when the innocent students from the North are abducted, tortured, killed, imprisoned, arrested in the pretext of suspected LTTE, shot like dogs? When it concerns the Northerners they seem to believe what the ruling family’s version of the story!!!

      truth

“When it concerns the Northerners they seem to believe what the ruling family’s version of the story!!!”

      It is called Double Standards

it is called Para-Sinhala Double Standards.

It is like the LTTE Tamil Double Standards, when they Ethnically cleansed Sinhala and Tamil People from the North and East.

So, the double standards are practiced by BOTH the Para-Sinhala and Para-Tamils.

So, the Double Standards are against the Principles of egalitarianism.

Egalitarianism will not promise you Heaven, Hell, Nirvana, Nibbana, Rebirth or Apaya. However, it will allow you to love in peace with yourself.

In a country where students are getting free education, they don;t deserve to do politics. IF they want to do politics leave the University and do politics.

Govt must ban some these idiots attending the University.

[Edited out], just because the pig living within your detestable bundle is FREELY fed with muck by the rogue Rajapakshas and forego your every right and lick and sniff their bottoms, the students would not descend to such lows you are in. It is cockroaches like you who are satisfied with the leftovers of the Rajapakshas but not the educated students of the country. You [Edited out], the education, health, the job and everything you have was given to you by the freedom and free educated that existed in this country, and you ponnaya now comes and dribbles on the contrary. When it concerns the Northerners they seem to believe what the ruling family’s version of the story!!!” – truth

I totally agree with Truth. The university populace must build solidarity and understanding with those in the North and East. It is ultimately these students after their higher studies who will take over this country. Therefor they must have a broader understanding about other fellow citizens and minorities. This is exactly what RW tried to do during peace time. No one will be able to deprive these minorities of their birth rights. The racists come and go but the peoples and minorities of this country would continue to come into being for centuries to come. Do Rajapakshas and the racists think the future generations are prepared to be at war at each other and suffer for centuries to come? This must be ended and sooner too so that all peoples achieve the peace prosperity and happiness of their lives.

Fair skinned foreigners attending youth conference in SL face sexual harassment from SL perverts.

A Sri Lankan officer (female) who is in charge of the foreign youths (females) who have arrived in Sri Lanka (SL) to attend the world youth conference that is now being held in SL ,told Lanka e news that these foreign girls are thoroughly disillusioned since they are facing sexual molestations at the hands of perverts and sex starved Sri Lankans.

These foreign youths have complained that they are facing this harassment mostly in Hambantota, Mostly at air port and Ruhunupura conference hall public restroom’s. they say they have notice tiny cameras are been put in ,the home town of SL President Mahinda Rajapakse. Incidentally, some time ago British national Khurram Sheikh was murdered in cold blood and his fiancée was brutally gang raped at a hotel in Tangalle , also near Hambantota by a group led by President’s close crony , the local body chairman of Tangalle.

This lady officer went on to say , a majority of the frustrated youths in SL think after seeing internet ‘blue films’ (obscene films) every foreign girl who is fair skinned is in the ready to lift her frock . Consequently , these foreigners are unable to peacefully attend to their tasks in SL and this has brought disgrace to the country , she lamented with profound concern.

The world youth conference that commenced at Ruhunupura conference hall ,Hambantota on the 6 th is to conclude on the 10th. Youths of 169 countries are participating in this conference. The inauguration ceremony was at Hambantota while the other discussions are held at the BMICH , Colombo. This conference is based on the theme ‘Century’s development beyond 2015.’

AG of Rajapakses orders suspects who raped deaf and dumb girl to be freed

(Lanka-e-News- 10.May.2014, 3.15PM) Sarath Palitha Fernando the attorney general (AG) who has been appointed by the brutal lawless Mademulana beasts not to dispense justice but to stoke lawlessness in the country had given instructions to the Kuliyapitiya magistrate Bandula Gunarathne to allow two suspects to go scott free who raped a deaf and dumb young girl, even without hearing a trial.

The magistrate acting on the instructions given by the AG via an undated letter , has released the two suspects despite the fact that the DNA report has clearly stated that the father of the child born to the victim is one of the suspects , Susantha Vijitha Bandara. In other words in keeping with the raging lawlessness in the country under the MaRa regime , the magistrate had acted following an AG who is there solely and wholly not to dispense justice but to make it a mockery to solely and wholly to please the MaRa regime.

In 2010, based on a complaint lodged with the Narammala police by the brother of the victim , the two suspects were taken into custody and produced before court following investigations.

When the AG of the State instructs not to pursue the case , there is no law for the magistrate or the police to continue with the case.

In other words , while this poor innocent handicapped girl clearly had been proved as has been a victim of two ruthless rapists who had taken advantage of her physical weakness and committed the crime within the court premises , it has also been proved a heartless beast of an AG had ‘raped’ (mentally tortured ) her using the court taking advantage of the weakness of the bestial laws of the MaRa regime.

In the circumstances , if this is a country where the women do not rise against these brutalities and injustices of this demonic AG and the regime, this must be a country of women sans life or honor. If this is a country where there is a legal profession that does not protest , the latter must be manned by professionals who are deaf and dumb.

Meanwhile this same shameless AG had yesterday summoned Thusitha Mudalige , the state counsel of the AG’s department to his official cubicle and outrageously instructed him not to press the case that is now being heard relating to the murder of Khurram Sheikh , the British national , and the gang rape committed on his fiancée by the suspects , Tangalla local body chairman and his friends. The AG had also told Thusitha who is appearing on behalf of the prosecution ( the AG’s department) not to cross examine in a manner that would incriminate the accused.
