The charity Freedom from Torture currently provides therapeutic care for more survivors from Sri Lanka that any other nation – and incredibly, it’s been like that for seven years.
Freedom from Torture – formerly the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture – is the only UK charity dedicated to provide the kind of specialist therapy that survivors of physical & mental abuse need.
Journalist Rohan Jayasekera is chair of a local fundraising & awareness team for Freedom from Torture, and he’s running in this Sunday’s Virgin Money London Marathon 2018 to raise money for the charity’s work, and he wants your support.
You can sponsor him by following the link (bit.ly/rjruns).
The organisers pledge that every penny he raises will go to the charity – with no overheads charged online.
Every survivor of torture in the UK has a different story. It means their needs are different, too. That’s why the charity tailors the support it offers to suit each person who comes to its centres around the country.
Freedom from Torture provides counselling and expert medical assessments to support survivors’ asylum claims, plus a range of innovative group therapy activities, like gardening, music, creative writing and cookery.
As a journalist, The Write to Life programme is special to Rohan. It’s the longest running refugee writers’ group in the UK and the only one specifically for survivors of torture. Its mentors help survivors overcome their trauma by revisiting the most awful hours of their lives and through writing, come to terms with their experience.
The work of Freedom from Torture began more than 30 years ago growing out of Amnesty International’s Medical Group. Volunteer health professionals campaigned against violations of human rights and documented evidence of torture.
Sadly the legacies of torture live on with many survivors, and many countries – Sri Lanka among them – have been slow to deal with the men behind it. In July 2017, Ben Emmerson QC, the former UN Special Rapporteur on protection of human rights while countering terrorism, visited Sri Lanka and concluded that “the use of torture was and remains today, endemic and routine”.
Please sponsor Rohan on the Marathon website (bit.ly/rjruns).

This a worthy cause for which I like to make a contribution other than money. As a Traditional Veda Mahattaya on all kinds of ailments, I can send some highly effective herbal oils, pattu, arishta etc. for the use of the torture victims. Please let me have through CT, the details of the patients and what kinds of injuries they have suffered.

One of the most crooked judges ever to come out of Hultsdorf is current Judge Iranganie Perera. When High Court judge she delivered her last judgment on her last day before retiring (she reached 60) acquitting Ravi Karunanayagam, Finance Minister, from all money laundering and theft allegations. Immidiately next day rather than going home as a retired judged she was promoted to a higer position as Commissioner of High Court judge. It is well known she was bribed by Ravi Karunayagam using her briefless lawyer husband who loiters in court corridors looking for work. This Irganani Perera who was given a judicial appointment as a Magistrate by then CJ Sarath Silva, one of the world’s no 1 womanisers.

There are no Sri Lankan toruture victims [edited out]
/
Real Revolutionist / April 22, 2018
Well, nobody can utter against such a cause like helping torture or any kind of victims.
The reason for the selection of only Sri Lankan torture victims (if any after almost 10 years of militarily crushing terrorism) is not quite clear.
Victims of torture are of 2 types, physically & mentally tortured, mentally only tortured.
How to identify all the mentally only tortured?
When making it relevant to Sri Lanka there’s a group pretending to be tortured with hatred towards majority SL community.
Can’t it be an initiative of those pretending to be tortured; making an anti-SL propaganda?

There are lots of people asking for money with various schemes. Some are honest some are not.
/
Anne Vidanagama / April 22, 2018
Yes I too have heard Iranganie Perera was a Sarath Silva darling. She got into judiciary based solely on that criteron

The last para ~ “……..In July 2017, Ben Emmerson QC, the former UN Special Rapporteur on protection of human rights while countering terrorism, visited Sri Lanka and concluded that “the use of torture was and remains today, endemic and routine”………………”.
Use of torture to silence dissidents started the erosion of ‘law and order’. The Lankan Armed Services and Police started working for powerful politicians who wanted private feuds settled. Contract killing was among the services rendered. In due course the armed services and police started wagging the dog. They have become a law unto themselves.
.
Recently the Army Commander Lt Gen Mahesh Senanayake bragged that he told MS “……….soldiers had ‘cracked skulls’ and ‘split ears’ ………… within the framework of ‘operational duty’………….”.
.
Rohan Jayasekera‘s efforts to rehabilitate the victim is laudable. Bridling the culprits (and their political patrons) is equally important.

The Comments comes to a standstill when the article touches the subject of State sponsored torture , murder etc.
Why ?? Are they afraid of yellow robes? , rajaballas??
How can this country prosper when the Dark Secrets are hidden and swept under the carpet.
Only the Hollow headed “Jim Softy ” comes out with some rubbishy gibberish nonsense, but CT wisely blocks his comments.
To find any solution for any problems at all , theres no solution nor progress for a better Lanka in the SLankan ” Dimwits Paradise.”

Softy,
It is not a sprinting race. He even need not finish to the line. Many elders, women, children just run to create mainly awareness then fund collection. If you go there you will see some are even walking.
Existence of Charities and NFP are creating employment for unemployed too. It is recognized by donners and States. Nothing new in that.
It not just about Lanakwe Rapist army. It is about all Rapist Armies of the world, especially, Africa, Middle east, South America, Southeast Asia.
If you are anywhere in London, go and say to him Hi. Tell him you are the rep of CT.

There are closer to 1 million Tamils who have obtain refugee status in the West making bogus, fabricated claims. Let’s work on this Analyst and let’ show to the world the real truth.
