By Vishwamithra –
“Paths are made by walking” ~ Franz Kafka
The people yearned for a full transformation from the old and the wicked to a new and challenging. Fed up with the traditional and boring political leadership, they demanded a real transformation; not a mere superficial change. Their thirst for a system change was never mitigated. That system which was the fundamental reason for our collective apathy, aimless pursuits and falling flat on our own bellies after realizing that it was the same mirage that we were deceived by, time and time again, came to a certain end. The country’s financial bankruptcy saw to it that we were never going back.
Those who thundered from atop the election platforms for that system change are now deafeningly silent about it; the change that they told us they would bring about is not even on the horizon. The IMF is still dictating our policy changes or lack thereof. What went missing? What never came about has been swept under the proverbial carpet. Lack of governing experience cannot be a reason; it could be an excuse, that too, whispered within inner conversations. The bureaucracy, that led or misled or even enabled the corrupt, dishonest and utterly self-centered governments of the Rajapaksas and the Wickremasinghes, is supposed to be patently experienced and well-equipped to run a government. But they seem to be more corrupt, double-dealing and incompetent than an inexperienced bunch of men and women that the NPP government is made up of.
The challenge is not for the current generation, nor for its offspring generation. It is for the grandchildren of them. Not knowing what their grandparent generation that endured without withstanding, tolerated without questioning and submitted without fighting the rule of a family cabal and decadent elitists, would step into a sick and suffering societal dynamic that would ultimately devour its own without blinking an eye. It is indeed a tragic turn of events that was in cycle for seven long decades. The only wrong that those generations did was not to question, not to suspect and not to recognize the true composition of their political leadership.
Rohana Wijeweera‘s approach was starkly error-ridden and too animal-like in execution. Delightful slogans and pontification without mercy is not the answer to galvanize a sleeping citizenry. Pol Pot’s execution style has energy and zest only for a very short time. Shelf-life of rhetoric and speechifying is calculatedly short. It’s only for the deception of the masses and driving them to unattainable goals. Utopia is as distant and unattainable as ‘Ithaca’ in Homer’s Odyssey. They exist only in the dead, yet appealingly enchanting pages of poetry. Wijeweera proved that subjective leadership is no leadership without an objective and a scientific foundation.
Anura Kumara Dissanayake is not only a successor to Wijeweera, he is also a direct product of that school of thought which determined the direction and path to a real change. After more than a half a century of years, during which time the country went spiraling down from peace to war and from moderate and less-than-abundance to bankruptcy, the objective conditions provided for a real, true and unvarnished change. The people saw in AKD their own image; they dreamt that, not of a land of milk and honey, but one of content and room to advance to a better day and place. Were they deceived? Were they hoodwinked again? The real jury is still out!
The Executive Presidency is still in tact and the day it will turn even a well-disciplined hermit monk into a cruel and pitiless dictator-ruler might not be too far away. Anura Kumara Dissanayake was elected President not to safeguard the elitist school of political thought; nor was he chosen by the people to keep pontificating from his exalted Presidential Secretariat what must be done and what must not be done. That phase of the rule is long gone. Six months is a long time in politics.
Indeed, it is a long time. Not only is it appearing to be senseless to talk about the subtle and elusive aspects of governance, it seems to have become redundant to engage in legalistic and constitutional innuendos; an ideological approach to the way the NPP is governing the country is observably absent. Its Cabinet of Ministers, except perhaps Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, Justice Minster Harshana Nanayakkara and Foreign Minister Wijitha Herath seem to be uncomfortable in verbalizing a cohesive point of view. They are either seemingly lost in their verbalization or incapable of articulating a simple and obvious train of thought into words, whatever the language is. Political speechmaking is hardly a qualification for contextualizing and presenting a cohesive argument for an intelligent audience.
We cannot close our doors to international fora and other conventions which are a part and parcel of global exchange of governmental matters. What alternatives are there for the government. The most ideal example is the late President Premadasa. Whatever his shortcomings in the sphere of policies and other approaches he adopted in order to overcome the opposition hurled at him by his adversaries, Premadasa was a role-model for any intern who wishes to improve on his or her self-confidence and deeper knowledge of the subjects that they wish to study.
Governance is not an effortless and cushy job. Its very execution is what brings improvement or deterioration to the people it is supposed to serve. Power that accompanies position that one holds can kill everything that the he or she dreamt about service- the unwritten definition and the ultimate end goal of politics. Arrogance and all-powerfulness that creeps into his mind cannot be taken softly. Its impact and negative influence could be the destroyer of his ambitions.
Absent all this maddening dynamics that comes to play in the exercise of power and policies, the particular sociopolitical context that helps the politician is a demanding populace and evidence of an imminent need in society for the change the citizenry demands; a sense of total and absolute honesty and implicit incorruptibility on the part of the politician then becomes a must in this equation.
Nevertheless, what we must remember in all this sociopolitical environs is that we are witnessing a moving social drama and the players are inherently flawed and the challenges that are thrown at him by society at large could be utterly unbearable, both in the short and long runs. The voter, the subject people, expected a total change, a system change that could offer some immediate relief and affordability for their day to day household essentials. What happened with the election of an NPP-led government was neither. They didn’t get immediate relief nor any signs of s system change.
That root cause has become an irritant for the government. And it has been constant in its manifestation and the government being mute in its response is being built by the Opposition as a weakness in the governing circles. However, one must always bear in mind that the fundamental cause for the election of AKD as President and NPP as a two thirds majority power in Parliament was the grave economic crisis that enveloped the whole country from the remotest rural hamlet to the busiest urban junction. Change of constitution from Executive Presidency to whatever the resultant system be is essentially secondary.
Yet a willingness to change from the ‘old’ to a ‘new’ has not been shown in any considerably prominent manner. The manner and means to execute government plans and policies, a fundamental change in the country’s education system, a radical transformation in the bureaucracy, overseas trips for conventions and conferences by Ministers and other parliamentarians, approach to our geopolitical partners, especially India and China, making fishery a significant foreign exchange earner for the country by enlarging the capacities of the fisheries industry, transforming our farming community from peasantry to a fraternity of agricultural entrepreneurs, once and for all settlement of the land problem in the North and East, relieving minds and hearts of the Tamil community and of course a carefully planned economic advancement in the North centered on the Giants Tank in Mannar, could all be amongst the subjects of a workable policy document the government could issue and be widely discussed at the highest Cabinet, Parliament and decentralized levels.
None of these has manifested itself. The distress and disfavor among the voting population is basically because of the failure on the part of the government and its line Ministers. Unfortunately, both for the government and the people, the face of government is AKD. No other Minister or Prime Minister has become a trusted communicator for the government. ‘One man show’ cannot be a mode of governance for the country that is struggling to emerge from a severe economic crisis just three years ago. How they are going to come out of this quagmire is anyone’s guess. But guesses would not take you anywhere. Nor would crisis management be a proven methodology applied as a consistent tool in macro management of a our polity.
AKD does not have to introduce collectivization of our farming and land-based economy; large scale purging of men and women in the civil and military service in the various sectors of government need not be exercised. Yet a system change could be installed provided the intentions and the ambitions meet at the same juncture where the country’s ambitions and her collective pursuit of justice and well-being meet. All our men and women are waiting for that day.

Okay that’s fine with all us, can I now drag foreign personality/personalities or refer to recent sex scandal that became hot news in Thailand? This is simply to make point that has been irritating me for a long time.
The Scandal:
Thai woman arrested for blackmailing monks with thousands of videos after sex

Sex scandal among religious Gurus/Monks/……. is not new.
Therefore the Sanghas should get together and make marriage compulsory for monks.

I understand Hindu Brahmin priests should stay married if they want to conduct certain rituals.

Will you please take this matter up with Sangha/AKD/Gaman Pilla, ……
I am sure Gnanasara would support you in this matter.

NV: Why do you need to talk about a ‘Sex Scandal’ in Thailand?
Didn’t you know of an ’81-year-old’ Chief Priest of a Buddhist temple in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka (from Unawatuna village) arrested for sexual assault of a young foreign tourist girl of ’23 years’ of age? This ‘Priest?’ was the Chief Sangha Nayake of Malwatta Chapter in Southern Province. Two weeks back, he was ‘Dethroned’ on a decision by the Malwatta Chapter.
Why do you need to pass a law allowing these ‘Buddhist’ priests to legally marry? At present, even though not ‘legally’ married, a LARGE number of them ‘maintain’ women partners and biological children born to them. So, let it be the ‘Social Structural Binding’ rather than be a ‘Legally Binding’ affair. More the merrier!

Oh, come on, Douglas. If this 81 year old venerable is capable of that, he should be congratulated. His relevant body parts should be embalmed and put on display at the Medical College.

OC and neutral thinkers like me@
And, my dear OC, not long ago, a paediatric clinic relied on some untold stories about monks as “aid patients” in a recent report from a clinic near Colombo.
How come AIDs are found in so-called “BUDDA PUTHRAYAS” hidden behind SIVURA, if they do not practice our “Deepthi De silva”? SADU-SADU– hik … hik…
The problem is that good Douglas has been brainwashed by sorcery-promoting Kadamandiya people, leaving him with no room in his small brain to focus on the facts. He is simply a model for me, as our people rarely respect truths.

OC and his followers ! Oh you guys are so limited !
Like hunger, the sex urge is permanent ( OC you say you have an very high urge , which lke all south Asian boasting is insipid I think ! ) A real man will not talk of such things publicly.
How many years have the religions been ? Maximum 2000 years app.
How many years have homo sapiens been on this earth ? 200,000 years ?
How can some illogical, unnatural thing like a religion change human instincts ?
The only human who has become an unnatural man is Leela, who I think has come from Mars !

However, it is a premeditated crime if they continue to rape and abuse child monks inside temple walls while hiding behind sanga costumes. If I had been the one doing the job, those hypocrites ought to be hanged.

Leela whenever you are challanged by a female you come out with vulgar suggestions .
Perhaps from birth the women you have known had that inclination .
The world has changed Leela, many women now outshine men.
As to the various rituals and pantomimes of ancient unwashed savages I dont know whether to call these religions . Even if we do, they are still recent compared to the time homo sapiens have existed .
Leela living in Mars pity you missed all this !

Hello Deepthi,
One of the oldest extant written records is the Epic of Gilgamesh from around 4000 years ago. It mentions various Religious topics e.g. the Goddess Ishtar and the Bull of Heaven.
As SJ mentions the Neanderthals (who died out 30,000 years or so ago) practised Religious Burial Rituals.
As a friend of mine (and Shakespeare) pointed out “the sex urge” may be permanent, however the ability may not always be there.
Macbeth Act 2, Scene 3 – The Porter “alcohol “provokes the desire, but it takes away the performance,” referring to its effect on sexual desire.
So don’t Drink and as they say “use it, or lose it”.

His philosophy of history posits that the world spirit (Geist) progresses through stages, each marked by a deeper understanding and realization of freedom. Initially, freedom might be limited to a select few, as in ancient despotisms, or understood as a privilege of a particular class, as in classical societies. Over time, according to him, the concept of freedom expands to encompass humanity as a whole.

Just as Nimal described she was on 10-inch stilettos. My friend started to sweat, so I said “don’t worry the Pitbull won’t bite you, it’s on my side”. He remarked with a smile “it’s not the Pitbull I’m worried about”. Some men are a sucker for dangerous women like this -not me😉.

Hello Leelagemalli,
At my age all women are attractive, however always remember women have Autonomy. In many countries they are free to make choices as to who they have a relationship with (Male or Female).
Helen Mirren, Michelle Pfeiffer and Susan Sarandon are very attractive women that are over 50. They all exude a self-confidence/assurance that also adds to their appeal.
Royal Women on the other hand tend to look a little bit “horsey”. Doesn’t appeal to me.

Rohan25 / July 28, 2025
Nimal, the irony is that both Thailand and Cambodia, staunchly Theravada Buddhist countries, are going to war over an ancient Sivan Temple. You can see that it is built in the typical Dravidian Chola architecture. This love for their pre-Buddhist Hindu faith and to claim all ancient Hindu sites within their lands, for themselves, seems to be an obsession in these Theravada Buddhist lands. You can see the Sinhalese doing the same thing here, trying to claim all ancient Tamil Saivite, as well as Mahayana and Theravada Buddhist ruins and places of worship for themselves. using the resources of the government and the might of the Sinhalese armed forces and police. The only difference in these claims is that the Thais and the Cambodians, want to claim this ancient Saivite site, as part of their history and still venerate it as an ancient Hindu site, but the Sinhalese have a far more diabolical scheme, they want to destroy everything Tamil and Hindu on the island, the ancient Tamil Hindu history and heritage and claim everything for Sinhalese Buddhism to build a Sinhalese Buddhist Fascist land, using fake history, their majority and the might of Sinhalese state and armed forces on the hapless Tamils.
/
SJ / July 28, 2025

That is untrue.
Pallava influence was there initially, but the architecture is uniquely Cambodian.

Nasty nitpicking snake, it is a Sivan temple, and the so-called Khmer style of Hindu temple building is the South Indian Dravidian Chola, and to some extent Pallava Tamil temple building. From the Pallava dynasty, it passed on to the Cholas. Especially during the reign of Rajah Rajah Cholan and his son Rajendra Cholan Tamil dynasties ruled these SE Asian lands and heavily influenced everything there. “‘System Change’: Mirage Or Real”
The people of Sri Lanka wanted a real system change and the people of this island gave a clear mandate that we don’t need the system and policies that was adopted since 1948 and people made a comparative analysis among the competitors and they felt based on the available information of the past 77 years the NPP to implement the real system change. The People said clearly to the few rich families who ran the political business with racism and Buddhist religious extremism which brought ultimate bankruptcy. NPP promised to implement the real system changes but they are reluctant to make the real system change. Without a system change there is no economic recovery, no peace, continued political corruption and continued dependence on the regional and international powers influence. Almost all the Presidents had the opportunity to bring back a peaceful and healthier economy but the system and its leadership failed it. I don’t understand why NPP/Anura reluctant to talk about system change particularly inside NPP.

Mr SJ,

Did the people have the foggiest idea of what the changed system should be like??

People were misled by “pompous and hyperbolic promises,” making it difficult to expect much from them.
Even Dr. Amarasooriya aka PM of the day and others did not consider conducting analyses before levelling high-level accusations.
–
I have teenagers as nieces and nephews; they cry louder, sometimes provocatively, but when it comes to cleaning the garden or doing housework, they don’t do even the most basic tasks correctly.

Rejecting both of the aforementioned demonstrates nothing other than that people are more stupid than they appear to be. Northerners and Muslims are even more stunned than they appeared to be at the inability to elect “powerful ones” to parliament. ARJUNA MP is the only voice for Tamils today, and few Muslims are mentioned in parliament.
People fall into the same pit over and over. Sri Lankan elections reveal nothing about the “will or likes” of the people. If they’re asked to spice dung, they simply line up. You and others are promoting incapable men and women. That is, unfortunately, the curse of this nation. Aside from outlouding, 5-lession-burampis have demonstrated that they are incapable of doing anything truly beneficial. Alas SL.

They may have or may not have, but generally they admit to what they did/the Central Bank killings, etc. It was a very well-known fact that the Sri Lankan Intelligence, the Israeli-trained STF/Muslim Homeguards, in conjunction with the Mossad, and local eastern Muslim politicians, were creating a lot of violence and rift between the Tamil Muslims and the eastern indigenous Tamils, through rapes, killings, burning of Hindu temples, ethnic cleansing activities, kidnappings. Many of the violence was finally brought and proved to be the work of the Sri Lankan intelligence services, the STF and Muslim Homeguards, but none other than the Sri Lankan Police, many of the so called Muslim kidnap victims and victims of violence were finally found hiding safely in their homes or somewhere else, paid a huge amount of bribe, by these organisations and they admitted to it.

I am only filling some blanks.
Bothers you? I am not surprised.
/
Rohan25 / July 30, 2025
We all know that at the behest of JR, the Tamil Nadu origin minister Mohmmed sent southern Muslim thugs and criminal elements to Kalmunai, deliberately starting a rift between the Muslims and the Tamils. The LTTE was no saint, but they were a guerrilla group that was forced to fight for the just rights of the Tamils, after everything else failed. Even as per your government statistics, they killed around 3000 Sinhalese, Muslim and Tamil civilians( not combatants). They were responsible for around 5% the most of all the terrorism and violence against civilians, however the Sri Lankan state and armed forces, that are supposed to protect all civilians, irrespective of race, ethnicity, language or religion is responsible for 95% or more of the violence and terrorism and 99% was selectively targeting innocent Tamil civilians on the guise of fighting theLTTE. It committed untold genocide and war crimes, especially in May 2009. All this resulted in around half the Tamil population being forced to flee the island from the time of independence, and around 170000 were deliberately targeted and killed, especially in May 2009.
/
Rohan25 / July 30, 2025
The Tamil percentage has halved from around 28% to 15.4%, whilst the Muslim percentage has increased from around 6% to 10% almost doubled, and the Sinhalese from 66% to 75%. How come if the LTTE was committing genocide and ethnic cleansing? It was the Sinhalese Sri Lankan state that was committing genocide and war crimes on the Tamils and not the other way around, and as usual, you vicious, vindictive, spiteful viper, come here, twist what happened, to deliberately give a wrong impression. Try to do some good in your old age, vicious old man. Now I await your pack of Hyenas to start attacking me, starting with your heroine’s nephew.
/
Rohan25 / July 30, 2025
If you had given a balanced picture that the LTTE committed these atrocities, the Muslim Homeguards, in conjunction with the STF and Mossa,d committed these atrocities and the Sri Lankan state which is the root cause of all these problems committed large scale war crimes and structural genocide on the island’s Tamils I will accept it but no you and your cronies are very selective and want to twist and misinterpret what happened. Never admit or acknowledge the 95% state-sponsored war crimes and genocide against the island’s Tamils, which is continuing, but selectively come around and speak about the 5% violence the LTTE committed largely in retaliation for what happened, and these also would not have happened if the Sri Lankan state did not commit violence against the Tamils. Are you aware that there was a horrible incident of large-scale killings of innocent Sinhalese bus passengers around Kebitigollawa, which the Sri Lankan state and STF accused the LTTE of committing, but later it was revealed that it was the STF who deliberately committed this atrocious crime against their innocent Sinhalese civilians, to discredit the LTTE.

Thanks for your response? If you know all the answers to your question why did you and your military and your courts did not take action against them? Why don’t you give exact number instead of asking me or telling a lies like your governments and your Sinhalese military. You should not stop with that selected group only. Why don’t you answer who killed Tamil Civilians in 1958? Who burnt Jaffna library? Who Killed Civilians in 1983? Who took the eyes of Kuttimany and others in Welikade Prision? Who Bommed Navaly Church?
Don’t you know you killed all LTTE in 2009 and now it comes very clear that you used LTTE name to all the crimes committed by the Sinhalese only military.

I am really at a loss to understand what the author’s problem is! When we all know that AKD clearly does not follow what Wijeweera preached in the 60s to 80s, while trying to clean the mess the country is in, why should Sri Lankans worry about Wijeweera gremlins in this 2025?? Why pull those ghosts back in 2025 again and again??
/
SJ / July 27, 2025
What Wijeweera preached in the 1960s with all its flaws had a touch of idealism, but what he preached in the 1980s was totally cynical.
The JVP was under the shadow of Somawansa who had zero understanding of any political theory.
The problem for the JVP is that it cannot openly reject its past although that it has abandoned its declared ideals of the 1960s and the blatant chauvinism of the 1980s.
It has abandoned its life-long hate for India and become a loyal servant of Indian capital.
/
leelagemalli / July 28, 2025
Mr. SJ, humans can belong to multiple parties for various reasons. We may have utopian ideas, but carrying out practical politics with its people is not easy. You must have years of practical experience rather than being entwined with textbooks. AKD is doing exactly that today. No country on the planet is said to be free of corruption. However, there are countries that have reduced corruption. Handunetti, in his “Big Quechin (a big question or fraction),” the world understood, the level of his dreams, and his own inability to carry out practical work.
As of today, after only a year, people have realized that Jeppos are good at crying louder, but nothing like practical politics can be expected from them, as SENIOR undergrads do with their freshers. Every day, people’s dreams vanish like water drops on a heated metal plate. Crime rates are rapidly increasing while poverty persists. AKD still has a big mouth today, but he is unable to deal with the facts in front of the people. In retrospect, AKD is even worse than Gotabaya.

Douglas / July 27, 2025
The writer says, ” IMF still dictating our policy changes”. In the aftermath of declaring ‘Bankruptcy’, were it not for dictating and demanding to change our policy initiatives, this country would have ended up in a hellhole. That was the calamitous peril that the government/State was forced to by the regimes of ‘JRJ’, ‘Chandrika’, ‘Rajapakses’, and ‘Ranil W/MY3’. Yet, the IMF’s policy initiative to change the system to privatize the public sector to ease the burden was far more often used as a golden opportunity to sell off many national assets, even to make a fortune out of a disaster. This was the ‘System” that existed and was nurtured for decades.
That was the environment in which the present Government came into being. The ‘Bureaucracy’ and the ‘Hegemonic Political’ structure that was operating for decades was the legacy bequeathed to the present Government. It is not by any means an easy task that could be achieved within a short period.
/
old codger / July 27, 2025
“That system which was the fundamental reason for our collective apathy, aimless pursuits “
I beg to differ. It should be the other way around. It is our own aimless pursuits and collective apathy which are responsible for the system.
Does anyone force us to watch cricket matches as if they are going to change the world?
Why do we approve of “flanneled fools” being paid more than nurses? Is there apathy involved?
Are there any of us who have never paid a bribe to get things done?
Are there any of us who offered to buy petrol at its actual cost when it was subsidised?
Are there any of us who are willing to pay three times the fare for the comfortable buses we demand?
/
Douglas / July 27, 2025
II – To make a start, the present Government has taken appreciable steps and is still in the process of changing the ‘Political Culture’ in keeping with the principle of ‘Small is Beautiful’. That beginning, even though visibly small, is commendable.
The writer brings out the most urgent and notably an uphill task of changing the ‘Bureaucracy’ in saying -‘ Yet a willingness to change from ‘old’ to ‘new’ has not shown in any considerable prominent manner’.
This ‘unwillingness’ to change from old to new is not only in the ‘Bureaucracy’ but also in the ‘political sector’, both in the Government and the Opposition. The ‘Opposition’ is so incompetent that it has ceased to exist. Were it not for the ‘Social Media’ and a few of the print and electronic outlets, there would not be any institution to point out the glaring ‘GOOFINESS’ of some of the activities of the Government.
So, a prerequisite to any ‘System Change’ is the need and willingness to ‘CHANGE’ from ‘Old’ to ‘New’, but at least a change to behave and do things in a meaningful way for the betterment of the country and the people.

Douglas the NPP promoter,
Some people are still in a daze from the numerous lies they told prior to the election. Nothing has changed in this nation in the ten months since they were granted authority over everyone else. On the other hand, hatreds are growing against them every day. The day before yesterday, I was compelled to watch a social media video about Sevanagala, where the voters who chose the AKD were claiming that ANURA had failed. The threat posed by the current government is increasing quickly, and if the Savanagala Sugar Factory were to close, people would undoubtedly attack them right away. Their actual politics and what they say aloud are completely different. Perhaps there is less corruption now, but that hasn’t resulted in anything noticeable.
Big talks as usual, but they are no different from Rajapakshes when it comes to walking the walk.
For instance, senior minister Lal Kantha threatened to demolish Dudly Sirisena and his hotel as well, but the demolition has now moved to the hotel’s gate. How is this possible? For the past 60 years, these BPs have been deceiving the nation by obstructing its development initiatives. If we are to advance as a nation, I believe that JEPPOS should be imprisoned as soon as possible. In order to place them in jails like Nikaragua, we require more prisons than schools.

Metta and Karuna are misinterpreted by the majority of Sinhala Buddhists. That is known to us.Sanga-pathala-Lokkas such as Ghanasara proved it to the same audience with his “usual recites” after inciting riots against Muslims in Sri Lanka. Then you, the so-called “Buddhists,” helped to spread his hatred. This is such an incorrect population. Barbarians used to kill children, either directly or indirectly, in the same way that LTTErs did, but in the end, gossip and hyperbolic public statements turned the same audience into their loyal supporters. AKD is a shameless person to continue saying “that we took over a country that was bankrupted,” which is yet another tactic to mislead Kadamandiya and other real criminals in this nation. They are, unfortunately, the majority in this country, and they frequently change their votes.
The current government’s motto is “breaking Musawada-precept and spreading lies for their survival tactics”. AKD should no longer be the leader who dreamed of following ARAGALAYA, a youth movement that demanded a country with many new systems rather than all traditional means. However, after ten months, AKD has fully transformed into MaRa (Mahendra Persy Rajapakshe), the ruiner of this nation, filled with criminals rather than peace dreamers and doing nothing to meet the expectations of the youth.

If rascal Lalkantha is reliable enough to serve as a minister, please listen to him. Over time, barking dogs in human disguise have upset this native. The goal of Bond Scam was to corner RW and ruin the gathering. that their ultimate objective was ultimately accomplished. WHO went even further backwards—not necessarily in terms of RW or UNP men, but rather in terms of the people who have been made easy pickings by corrupt politicians. If appropriate social restructuring is not implemented in this country, I have no hope for it. Politicians and state officials, in addition to religious forces, exhibit a lack of fundamental discipline, let alone performing miracles under “AKD leadership”. Douglas,
Lalkantha says that the custom of giving higher status to officials was introduced in colonial times. This is utter BS. This habit of giving undue respect to persons of perceived higher status was much worse in the Kandyan kingdom for example. In the King’s presence, most subjects were not allowed to stand up. They could not turn their backs to him and had to crawl backwards to exit. You can see this still happening in the Buddhist kingdom of Thailand. :

My predictions about Gota, Maharaja, and now AKD will be more accurate than those of a fortune teller because I have studied them for years. This is why I have always believed that a commission comprised of all parties should work for a limited period of time before AKD or others are given relay batton stock, and that it could work. Nothing can be accomplished in this country until the economy is reset, including the strict enforcement of law and order. I also believe that each party has competent and experienced leaders and ministers. Looking back, that small cabinet under Mr RW was very efficient (Shehan, Manosha, Harin, and a few others). Within the last 8 months, they accomplished far more than current men can.

Mr HP,
Corruption can be reduced by enforcing strict law and order, but this is only applicable if the nation has reached certain economic levels.
I know this from my recent experience with former COMMUNIST countries such as Bulgaria, Poland, and others that transitioned to democratic governance after the Berlin Wall fell in 1989. Those bulgarians, Tschec republicans, and Polish people are, by nature and practice, unlike Western Europeans when it comes to hard work. They dream of materials they have never had before, but they work much less and are forced to struggle in western-European working conditions. However, because their economic levels were not particularly low, they can easily adapt to Western systems.

Hello Leelagemalli,
I worked with quite a few Romanians in Qatar. They had built a similar Border Surveillance System and had direct experience of the current (around 2014 onwards) levels of Corruption in Government and Business. They were very dissatisfied with their Governments entrenched Corruption. Everyone was aware that State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) were particularly bad. They were also critical of Education and Health. Joining the EU (European Union) meant that Corruption had to be addressed. I believe that it has improved significantly.
All of my Romanian Colleagues stressed that Laws alone would not change the situation, but that there had to be a systematic emphasis (Programme) made in Schools, Colleges, Universities, Businesses and throughout all Government Departments, that Corruption should be recognised and rooted out.
I had no idea how poor parts of Rural Romania were until my Colleagues told me about them.

I’d known it for a long time. In fact, I work with people from more than 55 countries around the world, including black Africans. So some of them are my close friends. Looking back. I’m telling you that the poverty of some parties in Romania and Bulgaria is comparable to that of our people in rural areas such as Monragala, north, and some parts of your municipality. That is why I initially thought our people’s decision to seek employment in Romania was a joke. That is, after the wall, some areas in Romania and Bulgaria resemble western European cities. Prag is no different.

Mr HP, thanks for the meaningful thoughts.
I believe corrupted thinking is born and entwined with their culture, and it will be repaired once the country’s economy improves. They believe that way of thinking is inextricably linked to education, but I believe that based on “Prof. Kovoor” and his explanations of the society in the island nation, there is a style of thinking in which they avoid facts. Gossip-loving media outlets give them a boost until fake public perception becomes the “news”. Looking back, former SLMA’s performance to the tune of RAJAPAKSHES was a good example. However, many people believe that medical doctors are “truly intelligent individuals.” There is a significant gap between professional knowledge and political knowledge in the Sri Lankan context.
–
South Korea and Vietnam have overcome the barrier. We should also identify the barriers precisely. And I believe that following the fall of the Berlin Wall, those former USSR countries were able to smoothly implement democratic governance. The former USSR countries were not poor, but their systems had made them lazy. Their thinking is also significantly more progressive than the Sri Lankan average. I’ve worked with them (doctors, bioengineers, professors, and nurses) over the years. Humans have a natural attraction to materials. You can’t keep them in a confined environment indefinitely.

The author says 6 months is too long in politics. But for a country that has gone through several crises, I would give the current regime more time to produce results. At least a year and a half. At that time, people can come back and take stock and re-evaluate. But for now, people shouldn’t be too hasty with their criticism.
Many who think the West didn’t have such problems don’t understand how corruption and many other problems afflict the West. AKD should take steps to address Tamil grievances, including war crimes, disappearances, mass graves, etc., provide reparations, and then finally start uniting the country on a new mission to have a competitive economy that is not reliant on IMF borrowings and can stand on its own in the face of global capitalism’s never-ending grind.
/
leelagemalli / July 28, 2025
Agnos, 100 days is thought to be a benchmark at international levels to determine whether a newly elected government can last long. Believe it or not, the current situation before the NPP government is a major crisis. I knew this long before they got together. Jeppos cannot get along with anyone except their JEPPO colleagues. They are born and raised this way, which is why students at local universities cannot tolerate an abusive ragging culture for freshers. Ragging is completely handled by Jeppos and their peratugami youth. Both are comparable to all others except for their own thought bearers.
Gota reversed his gazettes back and forth, but the current men’s power does the same. However, both men are very different political rivals. MaRa engaged in abusive politics, as did the AKD, in order to gain a national lead in LG polls. If AKD is properly raised, he should not be able to face the same AUDIENCE that exists today. However, his childhood is broken, and that type of upbringing instills obvious hatreds. So his hyperbolic public statements spread like COVID-19 around the world. How provocative AKD has turned out to be in the beginning “remember the terms “such as HAPPILA BALAMU, KENDIRIGANNA EPA”. These are now limited to his pre-election empty rhetoric.

This looks like an accident for the President and Mr. Namal Rajapkse to be on that flight to Maldives. Most unlikely though.. They sure must have had a mutually beneficial conversation for future mutual collaboration. Real rabbits coming out of the hat.

Dear readers of CT: The ‘System is Changing and Real’
Yesterday, the Hambantota High Court issued an ARREST WARRANT on Namal Rajapakse for not attending court on a case to be heard against him. Do you know where he was at the time his case was scheduled?
He was on a flight to the Maldives to attend a wedding. The President AKD was also on the same flight. Look at how these “Big Wigs” ignore the Judicial orders and take the liberty to attend a wedding abroad even without informing the court.
In another event, the Retired Navy Admiral was arrested in connection with the ‘Disappearance” of the 11 youths. In another case, another retired SDIG, Priyantha Jayakodi, was arrested yesterday for falsely complaining to the Police.
One more – The 9 arrested Police Officers were ordered to pay Rs. 2.5 million for unlawful arrest and murdering a suspect taken into custody.
This is the way to go. When I record these “REAL” system changes, I am named on this page a “BP -Bellige Putha (Son of a Bitch) and ‘Kalakanniya’, This is the world we live. No matter what, I will do my little bit to make changes ‘REAL” not ‘MIRAGE”.

D,
They repeatedly fail.

I couldn’t find a strong candidate in the Thambuttegama-burampi delegation heading to the Maldives. It is a ” big quichchin- big question/fraction”.

Dr. Muizzu would be thinking about how stupid Sri Lankans are under the leadership of AKD. Juli Chang has stated that she would prefer to work with other parties other than the Leading NPP because she believes a lack of communication is a greater issue. We the people were repeatedly promised that anything and everything would be more transparent under AKD leadership, but in practice, they continue to hide things as if no other leaders ever did. Let’s see what his next faux pas will be due to his lack of knowledge of the norms during his current visit. We should simply feel ashamed.

LM,
Don’t you think that giving publicity to two-bit racists like Gammanpila is not advisable?
If, as he says, the CID didn’t arrest him because the judiciary is independent, that is a compliment to the government. Opportunists like Gammanpila would like nothing better than to be arrested so that they can play at being martyrs.

D,
A country’s productivity stems from its citizens’ efforts. Our country should have a lot more regional-based small-scale businesses and export-oriented economy development, but nothing along those lines has been planned or discussed by the incumbent government. 20% of their tenure has passed, and no tangible changes have been observed or reported by any of us as of today. They set the bar higher with their talkative and irresponsible public statements, but people in the country are now completely disappointed. When I come down to see my parents’ graves every year, all I see is failure. Doubletake nearly killed me last year, because social security is not guaranteed in the country today. Criminals, including those who steal chains and bags, are everywhere.

.
If they can take Namal Rajapaksa—the “Pol Booruwa”—into custody for openly defying a court order and arrogantly leaving the country for a private matter, then I would consider your optimism realistic.
.
Just imagine the audacity—he not only violated a court order but even had the gall to travel on the same aircraft, with AKD adding insult to injury. It’s as outrageous as it gets.
.
Anything less would mean nothing has truly changed, and the so‑called sacred cows remain as untouchable as they have always been.

HT,
.
Douglas’s naivete knows no bounds. He has faith in RASCAL Lalkantha and his animated performances on stage. I wonder why this country’s educated seniors continue to put up with such rascals and their absurd public remarks.
To be completely honest, do we currently have a single capable minister with the kind of strong abilities that people would expect? Unfortunately, the answer is a resounding NO:

1970 Sirima , N M ,, Philip tried it with ‘ Hal Polla ‘ . 1977 that was reversed
and came JRJ Productions Righteous Society . 17 long years they were in
power with the blessings of all Western bloc .New money flow , new
opportunities of all sorts that created both heaven and hell . We are still
living with what J R J created . The day someone else goes on a U turn
is the day We can call System Change and until then it is just another slogan .

In 1970 Philip was in the UNP camp.
What JRJ overturned was a whole system of parliamentary government. We are still unable to reverse it.

S J ,
You are right on Philip . The mistake was due to his leftist
ideology . The case of J R J , it was a system change in my
opinion and even if it is one day going to be replaced with
the older system , it won’t be a system change . J R J
championed the open market and the challenge in front of its
opponents is to reverse it . A complete overhaul and then Call
it a system change .
