Taiwan To Become First Asian Country To Recognise Gay Marriage

Constitutional Court of Taiwan rules that prohibition of same sex marriage is unconstitutional.

The constitutional court’s ruling means that Taiwan is set to become the first Asian country to recognise same-sex marriage.

The panel of 14 judges have today ruled that the current law banning marriage equality is unconstitutional, and that the legislature has two years to either amend the Civil Code or create a new law.

The court said that the current regulations are in violation of constitutional rights to the freedom of marriage and equality among citizens.

The gay disease has spread to Sri Lankan monks. We should kill those gay monks to save the good name of Budhism. Otherwise, these monks will be campaigning to legalise gay marriage in sri lanka

Am I the only one that sees the irony here?

Child Abuse by a Monk in Habaraduwa————————————-

      Uploaded on May 29, 2010
She sent her grandson to school with the idea of providing him with proper education to make him a good person. The Buddhist monk in charge of the temple asked her to send the child to the temple and she sent him there because they were poor. There was no possibility for them to pay the money for tuition fees. That was the reason why they sent the boy to the temple school. When the child began to refuse going to the temple school so adamantly, grandmother had to look for the reason. It was then only that she discovered that the child who was sent to learn good behavior, ethics and Buddha’s Dharma from the monk had in fact been abused by the monk.————————————————————————————————————-

      Leel,

You cannot argue with Burt when it comes to Gay matters. He knows all about it because he’s Gay himself. He loves to take it up there.

So when he asks “Based on what stud”? You and I are clueless what he’s asking. Only another Gay bugger will be able to answer him.

Are you saying that based on your expertise in psychology? Because American Psychological association (APA) and ALL psychological associations including the faculty of psychology at Colombo University has concluded homosexuality is not abnormal and it is unethical to treat somebody because they are gay. It appears you do not know anything about counselling or sexuality.

APA unanimously concluded that ‘closeted’ people are more likely to be homophobic, because they want to hide their sexuality by over compensating. People who are comfortable with their sexuality are ‘less likely’ to be homophobic. Since you are homophobic, you are likely to be in a closet. I can recommend a good counselor to help you come of the closet: Gnanasara

Very important decision in the Asian region. People who love each other, who are in a relationship based on consent, have every right to enter a tie of marriage if they so wish, and their sexuality or gender should not matter. Not in 2017. It never should have mattered in the first place.
The comments on this thread are themselves explanatory of how stupid and ill-informed many Sri Lankans are on these issues. The world moves forward ensuring the rights of people, and some Sri Lankans, especially men who cling to patriarchal notions and pure ignorance, want to keep our rights restricted. If you don’t like a Sri Lanka where the rights of each and every citizen are respected, then please get the hell out to whatever fundamentalist regime of your choice and leave us alone. We are a democratic republic, and we will work to ensure that the full rights of LGBT people are respected in our country, including the right to marry, including the right to take legal action against discrimination, including the right to live with dignity. That’s the country we want. We also want a country with one single marriage law- with no place whatsoever for a religion-based marriage law that is extremely misogynist. Our marriage law should be reformed, scrapping anything like Islamic marriage, including equal marriage rights to heterosexual and same-sex couples, straightforward divorce legislation where each party can separate with dignity and respect, and where the rights of people entering marriage ties, especially women, are strongly protected. We are a Buddhist land, not a dictatorship. We are not a British colony to have British laws that criminalise same-sex relationships. We are not an Islamic republic. We want, and we will create a country with a system that is fair and equal, where all of our citizens can live in dignity. All the patriarchal idiots, from the justice minister to Islamic clerics to those homophobes commenting here, can jump in one boat and get the hell out. Good riddance. #repeal635

Why is that CT created a news practically comparing SinhaLE Wildlife Sanctuary Lankawe with Taiwan. Have anyone seen a leo going after a leo or lioness after a liness? What is the point? Same sex attraction is not known in Wild Cats as much as in Human being. That is why it has to be recognized and accommodated in Taiwan where human being lives.

If the interpretation of the word, marriage, is as per the ruling of the Taiwanese Court, then it follows that sex of the parties have nothing to do with that. On the other hand if marriage is defined as the union of man and woman as partners in a personal relationship then sex of the parties do matter. This is further complicated if it is mandated by religion that marriage of man and woman must be solemnized, invoking the blessings of God, virtually meaning that it is done with the permission of God. This is why, without upsetting the apple cart some countries talk of a civil partnership in their law permitting a legally binding partnership of two persons, irrespective of the sex of partners, in addition to the institution of marriage. Those countries claim that “Gay Marriages” are permitted in their countries but in actual practise it is a different framewotk of law where even a man and woman too could become partners.

Although being gay is accepted on the face of it by the developed world it is still despised and in raw Sinhala one can stereotyped as “U Kolu Karaya”.

Taiwan has NOT become enlightened overnight. It is a political move to annoy China. Request by China to dock a nuclear submarine in Colombo during Modi visit was declined. In October 2014 MR allowed a Chinese submarine to dock in Colombo. The reason? To annoy India. So there we are – pettiness.
