Thajudeen Was Tortured And Killed; Grave Site Under 24-Hour Police Protection

The Crminal Investigations Department (CID) is slated to file a motion before Colombo Magistrates Court shortly seeking an order to exhume the body of former national rugby player Wasim Thajudeen after unearthing new evidence that his death was not accidental but murder.

According to reliable sources the Attorney General yesterday has given the green-light for the CID to seek a magisterial order for the exhumation of the body.

Earlier the CID sought the advice of the AG on the matter. The CID is most likely to file the motion on Wednesday, according to sources.

After exhuming the body a forensic investigation is to be conducted by the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO).

The CID had unearthed fresh evidence that Thajudeen who also was the Havelock clubs former Rugby captain had been tortured and killed although the Police at the time claimed Thajudeen’s death was due to an accident.

The CID recently informed the court that it had detected marked differences in the Government Analyst’s report and the postmortem report on Thajudeen’s death and had come up with new findings which suggested it was murder.

The CID had informed courts that it appears Thajudeen had been subjected to severe torture before his death and multiple wounds in his body appear to have been inflicted by sharp and blunt weapons.

Also the CID had said that Thajudeens thighs seemed to have cut by a broken bottle and there appears to be fractures in his ribs.

The CID earlier requested the Courts to order relevant authorities to issue the final report of the postmortem and also summon the Medical Officers who conducted the postmortem.

Meanwhile Thajudeen’s grave site at Dehiwela cemetary is under 24-hour Police protection currently.

Thajudeen’s had died on May 17, 2012 in Narahenpita. His car had crashed into a wall and caught fire in close proximity to Shalika grounds, according to Police reports at the time. His charred remains was found inside the car.

Although the police spokesman at the time of Thajudeens death had said that the Rugby player had died after his car crashed into a wall and instantly exploded suspicion surrounded his death with media highlighting many irregularities with regards to the investigation.

Heightening suspicions at the time an unknown person had walked into Kirulapone police station and had handed over a purse, which eventually was found to be Thajudeen’s. The person had said that he found the purse near a road in Kirulapone, although the accident which supposedly killed Thajudeen had accured at Narahenpita about 2 Km’s away.

There were accusations that the Government at the time did not carry out a proper investigation.

After a new government assumed office afetr the January 08 victory of President Maithripala Sirisena a fresh probe was launched.

According to reports, suspects for this death include a son of the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Yoshitha Rajapaksa and a former Senior DIG is suspected to be involved in covering up the crime.

Thajudeen a talented Rugby player was voted the most popular ruggerite in the country in 2009.

Its sad what the family has to go through……My sympathies are there for em.. May Wasim’s soul rest in peace…He had been tortured, his teeth knocked off with a hammer, his neck pricked with a sharp object, his knee caps taken out with a hammer, his muscles slit with a knife… How barbaric are our FELLOW SRILANKANS? who ever did this should and must ENDURE THE SAME PAIN or even worse…. All this done to Wasim coz he was a threat to Yoshita’s captaincy and then its about Yasara Abeynaike..( who was Yoshitas gf )who initially lied to the CID stating that she did NOT know Wasim.. now that she has been called back from Australia, where she was packed off by Yoshita and dad to work at the embassy of SL in OZ,she wants to say the truth… She also should be charged for lying to investigators and also aiding and abetting a murder……

Like father like son. Shameless Royal ( self appointed ) family. The. Whole family took the country as it was their own property. The broods behaved worse than Gadaffi offsprings. Recently Ai Islam was condemned to
be executed by their rulers for what he did to people during Gadaffi rule.
These sons of Gadaffi’s if I can remember were the idols of Rapassa sons. I have seen them including MP Namal on the Photoshoot.

These shameless sons were worse brutes than any other dictators sons during their reign.
I wonder how this Rapassa as a father tolerated. Then like father like son the saying says it all.

The Face itself proves there is that murderous look.
If the girl was double timing no need for torture and murder!!! of that innocent man for gods sake. It was all because they thought the world ( country ) is their playing field with power and plundered wealth all destroyed their mental ability if they had one I mean the Grey matter.

Like Lasantha if you ask what happened to Thajudeen he will say who is Thajudeen, why are you asking about him when so many have been tortured and murdered in Sri Lanka.
This is how we have rolled for the last decade and you supported us, so what changed.

    • 28
      2

      Burt,

“This is how we have rolled for the last decade”

Wrong! This is how we have been rolling since 1948. We hit the pinnacle of lawless cruelty in the last decade, of course.

I am not too optimistic about securing justice for brutally tortured and murdered Wasim Tajudeen either. Despite the media circus.

      Given below a few reasons:
      1. Do you hear anything about Matale mass grave findings anymore?
      2. Who killed Lasantha?
      3. Who tortured and then burned Rohana Wijeweera alive?
      4. Who smuggled the cold blooded killer of Bharatha Lukshman under cover of darkness, out of the country, on a private jet? On a pretext of severe brain injury.
      5. Why was the thug who massacred 10 Sri Lankan Muslims during an election in Kandy elected to Sri Lanka’s Parliament? He has received UPFA nominations again.
      6. Who killed Fijian rugby player Joel Pera in a Colombo Casino?
      6. Why was infamous torturer and killer Susantha Punchinilame in Parliament?

List is a mile long. Exactly how stupid are Sri Lankans?

I have no faith a re-elected RW will deliver justice on behalf of the helpless victim who has been 6 feet under since 2012. Any leader with a backbone and a sense of true justice would have dragged in both Yoshitha and rotten DIG Anura to Welikada Remand Prison long time ago.

This gruesome murder is nothing but a juicy bone, before the election for the UNP.

A heartless, rotten propaganda ball game is being played among CID, AG, Judiciary & UNP top brass. At the expense of victim Wasim Tajudeen and his grieving family.

All Sri Lankans must stand up for Wasim Tajudeen. He cannot do it himself. Not any longer. We must see to it that justice will be served. No matter how long it takes.

      Cheers!

@ Ben,its indeed sad that while you have highlighted a lot of abuses they all relate to the Sinhalese and Muslims but have convinietly left out the Tamils who were the victims in so many 100’s of cases

        i) MP Raviraj killing
ii) Kumar Poonambalam killed under Ratwattes orders
iii) PM Prarajasingham and wife killed in cold blood inside the Chruch on Christmas day
        iv)100’s of white van victims
vi)Riots of 83 and how the cops turned a blind eye
        vii) Bindunuwewa massacre

It clearly shows that your also a damm racist and not different in anyway from the Rajapaksas whom always hate

          Ben is not a racist.

He does not believe in racial divide hence he does not acknowledge the existence of “other” people nor their problem.

Ben is not alone in this absent mindset.

          1

          Peace Lover,

Yes, Tamils bore the brunt of our cruelty against each other. I was not focused on being ethnically representative. Ethnicity slips my mind more often than not. In our primitive, tribal country I believe that is a blessing.

May I request you to consider loaded labels such as “racist” more carefully though. Same goes for words such as “terrorist” or “traitor”. These labels carry serious implications and should not be thrown about that easy.

          Cheers!

PS: Hope you have not been drinking too much with J. Muthu or something lately.

          • 2
            1

Its indeed strange that when one documents such serious crimes you tend to forget the tamils who bore the brunt of it,also judging by your past views we can see that your biased.

BTW:No I dont associate with the likes of J Muthu,he feels more at home drinking Single malt Whiskey with K A Sumanasekera and Kali

” Who tortured and then burned Rohana Wijeweera alive? “

As usual you have chosen one sided ritual.

        You should also have asked,

Who tortured and then chopped Thiruvengadam Vellupillai Prabaharan after his surrender?

Who killed innocent people since 2005?

Who killed innocent people since 1971?

Who killed Taraki and other journalists since 1971?

Who killed Kathigamar, Kumar Ponnampalam, …………… ?

This is a thrice blessed island.

Political brats have more rights than ordinary people, including right to kill with impunity.

RW does not do anything useful because like MR he also has blood in his hands; many people have been killed through his general directives, and so much blood dripping from his elbows. What was discussed between MR and RW at the dawn of 9th January might be a pledge to keep silent on mutual criminal activities carried out by these two grand villans

This is good, but why the “Yahapalanaya” selected only this one!!! If these people are genuinely concern about mystery deaths, then it should start investigating from premedasa era. Ranil was a cabinet minister at that time, so he should know what happen during that dark period.

Why didn’t Mafia king’s regime start investigations on all the unresolved murder cases ? they had long bloody 10 years , hadn’t they ? who stopped the investigations ? Didn’t CBK appoint a commission to investigate the infamous “Batalanda” torture camp saga ? almost 20 years have gone by , still no sign of arresting Ranil , wonder why ? who is behind all these shady deals ? on the contrary , Mafia king and his immediate family members’ all criminal activity are being unearthed , it’s only a matter of time , hope MY3 and Ranil would not intervene this time , we want to see justice is done ,the whole Mafia family doesn’t deserve to live in freely , their rightful place is walikada , period !

With RW at the helm he’s still worried about his Black Files in the hands of MR.
HE continues to support MR as same as MS.

There are many such grave sites in Sri Lanka. All must be investigated. GORA’s Moru might have consumed few also.

MARA/GORA type governance must be ended completely, opportunity to do so is in front of us not every one will be supportive of good governance primarily due to ignorance but if we can muster a simple majority in each electorate that should do. Hopefully people are intelligent enough to send home the kamba horu.

Just take a look at the quality of the gang of four. Wimal, Dayan, Dinesh and Vasudeva, they are absolute gutter level politicians. at least Dayan’s calculative mind is masked by the few words of English he speaks and his doctorate (whatever that means) the others are equal rotters but are unmasked because they have nothing to shield them from their ugly, crooked ways.

Can you guys feel how cruel these buggers have been.
Oh God, why the many in this country stay as if they are fully hallozinated by Rajapakshe lies, abuses, frauds and all kind of unfairness deliberately made by Rajapakshe kith and kin ?
While travelling from Europe to Lanka lately, I felt how much funds they the idiots should have spent on behalf of their gigantic teams joined to the entourages. Alone that costed the state billions. Then the non-ol passer brother in law to allow handle the airline made it all worse – once upon a time the airline was recognized, awarded as one of the best in the region. Today, all in all incl service everything has fallen down as nothing could help recovery. This is the wonder that MR and clans made to lanka.

“There were accusations that the Government at the time did not carry out a proper investigation.”

I have until now had the impression that there are certain government servants who are responsible for this activity.

This is another case which will never be opened, and that is due to only one cause…………………..CORRUPTION in SL.
Does anyone who has a gram of grey matter in his head think that the criminals will be brought to justice?
It is so simple, question those who handled the case then. There was CID, Police and lastly the Government analyst who checked the body and gave the verdict and reason for death.
The only consolation(and it is a painful one at that)is tha the family now is aware of the exact reason for his death. But this was something they had alreay suspected.
I feel so sorry for his whole family and at the same time ashamed at the primitiveness of the Sri Lankan standards.

In this shameful cover up where clearly there was major complicity by the police, shouldn’t the IGP of that time be answerable too? That it was murder was fairly common talk at the time and basic forensic examination would have put the “accident” version to rest at the outset.

In the old days, the very first item on the first day of the hearing of any murder/unnatural death case in court, was the reading out of the postmortem report, by the medical officer who carried out the postmortem, which also included the findings of the Government Analyst on body parts, body fluids, weapons used etc.
He gave his opinion on the cause of death.
These were subsequently published in the media.
    Nowadays, this does not happen.
It is alleged that police are present – which is not authorised – at the postmortem, and, pressurise the medical officer on what he should say.
In this case, charred/burnt remains of the body would have presented a difficult examination, and, usually in earlier days, opinions of senior judicial medical officers, were sought by the examining medical officer.
I remember how an obviously large piece of meat was photographed and shown in the media as the brain of Duminda Silva, in the Premachandra murder case – and, the neurosurgeon who had allegedly examined him, did not object!
The gullible media too published it!
Something is now very rotten, in our justice system.
