President Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has sacked 13 members of the SLFP central Committee, according to party sources.
According to sources former Prime Minister D.M.Jayaratne and SLFP Senior Vice President Janaka Bandara Tennekoon are among those who have been sacked.
According to sources the President has appointed 13 new members to the SLFP CC with newly appointed SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake.
On Saturday the President suspended the party membership of Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Susil Premajayanth.
The President had informed them in writing that their memberships will be suspended due to engaging in activities not confirming to the policies of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
Accordingly, both Susil Premajayanth and Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, who were removed from their respective general secretary posts of the SLFP and UPFA yesterday, were automatically removed from the central committee of the party, as well.
In addition, Premajayanth was removed from the post of national organizer of the SLFP. Both Yapa and Premajayanth has denied the accusation and the UPFA Executive Committee has refused to accept the newly appointed Secretary Dr.Wiswa Warnapala.
The Rajapaksa faction within the SLFP has described the move as one which was instigated with the aim of taking control of appointing SLFP members t parliament through the national list.
They have described this as another attempt to deny former President Mahinda Rajapaksa the Premiership if UPFA secures a clear majority at today’s poll.
Meanwhile advocates of good governance and democracy opine that the move as well as its timing cast doubts on Sirisena’s commitment to doing things differently after disposing Mahinda Rajapaksa as President.
‘He is acting as though he is owns the party in the first place. Also, these highhanded moves have come at a time when his party is in the midst of an election. Finally, it raises suspicion that Sirisena’s thinking is dominated by antipathy to Rajapaksa rather than the affirming of democratic principles and spirit,’ a long standing democracy advocate who wished to remain anonymous told Colombo Telegraph.
*Note – An earlier version of this story said the President sacked 25 members of the SLFP central Committee and appointed new 25 members. The latest is that the President has only expelled 13 CC members. He has appointed 13 new members to the CC.

Jaya Mangala Gatha-Verses of Auspicious Victory (rare Pali version)-Buddhist Chants
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OH9kdeLEX4
Uploaded on May 21, 2011
Based on the Book of Protection (Paritta Sutta) from the Pali canon, the Jaya Mangala Gatha is sung here in a rare recording by the Mahabodhi Society of India in original Pali. The Jaya Mangala Gatha is a chant recommended by the Buddha to destroy negativity and to generate auspiciousness. It proclaims the 8 major victories of the Buddha which are:
1) Victory over Mara (MaRa, Mahinda Rajapaksa)
2) Victory over the demon Alavaka ( Wimal Weerawansa)
3) Victory over the wild elephant Nalagiri ( Udaya Gamanpila)
4) Victory over serial killer Angulimala (Gotabaya Rajapaksa)
5) Victory over the evil intentions of Cinca who sought to defame ( Pavitra) 6) Victory over the haughty brahmin Saccaka ( Vasudeva Nanaykkara)
7) Victory over the serpent king Nandopananda (Susil Premajayanth)
8) Victory over the false views of Brahma Baka (Anura Piyadharshana Yapa)
It is said that these verses if chanted with a clear and pure intention are helpful in protecting the seeker by attracting the Good around. The Pali pronunciation here is exemplary and difficult to find

MS has done exactly the right thing. Regret it was not done at once after taking over the SLFP.
There is no other way to do this. We are dealing with a bunch of corrupt criminals. One of Sri Lanka’s leading instruments of governance, the SLFP cannot be left to Ali Baba & his 40 thieves. One more time? No way!
If Ali Baba had minimum standards of decency, he would respectfully withdraw from politics. Wish the new President well whole-heartedly. And would have gone home to Hambantota.
Instead, Ali Baba chose to tackle the newly elected President of Sri Lanka. Like a jealous teenage girl. Now he & his corrupt cronies must suffer the consequences.
Cheers!

Thanks
However the complete results are not yet released. Once it is out the horse trading commence.
The nature of future government depends on number of seats each party wins, or the size of the lead.
EPDP in the North gets two seats. Douglas has been sitting on the fence since January hoping to join the government irrespective of party/person loyalties. He too has developed Thonda/Hakim style of politics.
TNA is the Tamil version of UNP.
Hope is still not lost under Anura lead JVP. The party has a long way to go.
If Ranil forms the next government hopefully the people will find more space for political activism, more media and other freedom. However it does not guarantee improvement on standard of living and quality of life of the ordinary people.
Corruption, nepotism, favoritism, police brutality …….. will still be there as the state is accustomed to and comfortable with all these sins.
The people have to collectively encourage judicial and media activism in case all else fail.

By the time the Ex-Secretaries petition Supreme Court on 31st August, the new appointments would be regularized with the approval of the new Ex-co. Leaked Exit Poll! This poll was based on asking voters which party they voted for, collected from postal voters and those who voted today. However due to the legality reasons the source cannot be revealed. there is a margin of error of ten seats for major parties and 2.5 for small parties e.g TNA, JVP
UNF-UNP-71
UPFA-SLFP- 110
TNA-20
JVP-10
BBS-(nationalist)-4
other-10
It is to be noted that despite UNF having a better overall result in popular vote, much of their voter base was concentrated in Colombo and parts of Central District particularly Kandy which has been considered a UNP strong hold. The more even spread of popularity enabled UPFA to suceed in the FTP seats as opposed to UNF. As expected TNA sweeped the Nothern Province and parts of the East. However the biggest surprise is the BBS gains which managed to garner around enough votes to win national list seats however did not win FTP Electorates. However no party has won majority. But it looks as though there may be weeks of negotiation. Possible scenarios include national gov’t, However looks unlikely due to tensions between Siresena and Rajapaksa. But one very likely outcome is supply of confidence between UPFA and BBS. Disappointing Night for Prime Minister Wickremasinge while a astounding result for Former President Rajapaksa and his Supporters as they have exceeded expectations. Thats all there is. Hope you are enjoying the election day.

Thank you for the information.
I only hope that while doing what he wants to do, Mr Sirisena will acknowledge the WILL OF THE PEOPLE. He did not help at all. The president was left without much options, he tried to get his message across in a peaceful democratic manner however the megalomaniac MARA does not understand that language.
MARA faction was planning to bring the country to a standstill should they fail to achieve their objectives through elections. These actions by the President as head of the party is a preemptive strike to quell such aspiration. This should also help to make post election period much more peaceful.
Well done Mr. President !
Next blow to MARA will be delivered once the election results are out. MARA will have no options but decline to accept his MP position as he will not bow down to MS the President to sit in the back benches of Parliament. Ultimately that will be good of all Sri Lankans, including each and every “Baiya” (numbers will be revealed)

“The president was left without much options, he tried to get his message across in a peaceful democratic manner however the megalomaniac MARA does not understand that language”.
President has not gauged the mind of the majority and was not successful in getting his message across to them. He is acting like a dictator within a short time and people are reacting. With his small minded mentality he cannot think himself as a responsible leader of a country. He is resorting to village thug tactics. People don’t see him as a democratic leader but as a vengeful megalomaniac. MR is a man of the people and is more democratic and is not a megalomaniac as the western media tries to show.

One does not have to be a dictator to do what is required to be done depending on the circumstances.Political history is full of events and episodes that could be taken as examples. People who know less about those should better exercise some caution in their remarks.
there are things for which leaders and heads of parties are praised or blamed.Any justified comment depends on what exactly is the root cause for any action taken by them.
The distance between how one should live and how one does live is so wide that a man who neglects what is actually done for what should be done moves towards self destruction rather than self preservation. The fact is that a person who wants act virtuously in every way necessarily comes to grief among so many who are not virtuous. Therefore if a leader wants to maintain his rule he must be prepared not to be virtuous ,and to make use of this or not according to need.
One has to be careful and rather choosy in selecting what is right and correct for safeguarding the state.
This is because , taking everything onto account, one will find some of the things that appear to be virtues will , if practiced ruin him , and some of the things that appear to be bad will bring him security and prosperity!
Whether you are loved or feared for what you are doing it is safe and prudent to assess the impacts with your own commitment.
I think the President is doing the correct thing as the chairman of SLFP.history will absolve him.
