The Head Of State Of A Country Of Lies & Damn Lies

By Tush Wickramanayaka

Tush Wickramanayaka

We are extremely disappointed, although not surprised by The President’s endorsement of corporal punishment. As the Head of State, The President is responsible for the welfare of all citizens of mother Lanka. Article 11 of the Constitution states ‘No person shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment’.

But how can we expect a man who violated the constitution just three months ago to honor the commitment he made to our younger citizens when he endorsed the ‘Pentagon Proposal’, the blue print of the National Action Plan to End Corporal Punishment and  agreed to work towards providing a happier and safer learning environment for all children on 30th September 2018 at ‘Walk for Real Change’, organized by Stop Child Cruelty, the ONLY civil society organization committed and recognized internationally by Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment.

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), to which Sri Lanka is a signatory since 1992, issued a RED ALERT in February 2018. In the Concluding observations on the combined fifth and sixth periodic reports of Sri Lanka, “The Committee would like to draw the State party’s attention to the recommendations concerning the following areas, in respect of which urgent measures must be taken: violence, including corporal punishment (para. 21)…”

Sri Lanka is the only South Asian path finder Country that is a signatory to Global Plan to End Violence Against Children towards achieving the Sustainable Developmental Goal 16.2 in 2030.

The President should be ashamed to be the Head of State of a country that has promised much and achieved little to protect the future generation.

There are several alarming revelations by The President.

MYTH 1 – I was hit so much and I am a better man for it. I still feel the pain

FACT – The irony of this statement is that, if a child needs continuous beating to modify behavior, either the chosen method of discipline is ineffective or the child has developmental delays making it incredibly difficult for him to follow simple commands. If the caning that he experienced was such a joy that he felt necessary to glorify, then why does he still feel the pain? This supports the scientific evidence that the mental agony of punishment is embedded in the limbic system of the brain. At a later stage in life, when the individual is stressed, these feelings are resurfaced. Either the person becomes aggressive themselves or they become delusional. It appears that his aggressive character is coming alive with his determination to inflict pain on others by introducing the death penalty. The President fits the text book description of a victim of corporal punishment.

MYTH 2 – beating a child is part of our culture and ending it is the cry of Western influences

FACT – Though corporal punishment is commonly practiced in Sri Lankan schools and homes alike (De Zoysa, 2006), there is evidence that certain Sri Lankan kings of the past – such as Voharaka Tissa (214-236 AC), Vijayabahu II (1186-1187) and Vijayabahu III (1232-1236) – had prohibited any bodily harm by way of punishment, of children and adults (Moldrich, 1986). However, with the advent of colonial rule in the country, this attitude appears to have changed where it was especially promoted to facilitate its rule (De Silva, 2001; 2007), and has persisted into the present-day society. These colonial rulers have returned to their own motherlands where they have banned such heinous crimes whilst we proudly embrace it as our culture.

MYTH 3 – this is NGO dollars talking

FACT – If any person/s is successful in bringing change to a regime that struggles to find simple solutions, the authorities feel threatened. The biggest insult one can make is to stamp a false financial label against the efforts of genuine individuals. This is intimidation and bullying, another negative characteristic of The President who was subjected to corporal punishment. When a government is weak, when the institutions are crippled and when individuals in government act like they are mentally retarded, civil society organizations step forward. We are citizens of Sri Lanka. As residents of this country where our children are educated we have a moral and social responsibility to ensure the welfare of our children and consolidate our rights within the boundaries of Sri Lanka. We do not require a foreign agenda.

In conclusion, it is our professional opinion that The President is exhibiting the following negative characteristics of physical abuse:

1) Short Term Memory Loss

2) Pathological Lying

3) Delusions of grandeur

4) Inter-generational transformation of violence

5) Lack of respect to common law

6) Bullying and Intimidation

7) The victim becomes the aggressor – wishing to introduce capital punishment

The President is the Head of State of country of chaos, lies and damn lies!

A Very Informative and as well an Excellent Article….but I have to say Lacks a very Extremely Important Point being dismissed if not Intentionally SUPPRESSED…
    _
That is If we take a normal Middle class (well provided..etc) Child being Punished….with passing time….. as the Child or Adolescent grow old that individual naturally & Indefinitely Develops the human psychological characteristics of ANGER – REVENGE – HATRED – Cruelty both Psychologically & Physically even RAGE……the Concerning behaviours are absolute By products of that Child being punished Unnecessarily by adults…so this Article should include that…… even though it is Disturbing as well as makes the Perpetrator (most instances Responsible care taking adults) as the Ultimate guilty Party…..Should we call it the very Origin of Evil…

Thush , are you for real? “PENTAGON proposal’ gives the $$$ NGO game away!
      Pentagon???? $$$$ US State Department.
Seems that Clown Sira is right after all: that there is a lot of fake NGO activism to DISTRACT Lankans from the BIG CRIMES of US puppet Bondscam Ranil who should be impeached for looting the Central Bank and his financially illiterate club of gay chaps who think that the US has given them the right to live as butterflies.

Don’t get me wrong, Nothing wrong with gay folks or butterflies but this Royal college club of thieves that has put Lanka into the IMF Washington Consnsus debt trap so that their Trumpland backers can build a military base in Trinco is the pits!

The PENTAGON has more than 80 military bases all over the world, and is the biggest exporter of weapons in the world but preaches human rights , The ICJ ruling on the human rights violations committed against Indian Ocean Chagos Islands Children who were forciby displaced while their dogs were gassed is another story.
      – selling 57% of arms, which is more than the rest of all the other arms exporting States in the world.

Russia and UK sell around 9% of weapons each in the global arms trade. Check out the newest SIPRI -Stockholm Peace Institute report on global arms trade.
US is a danger to the. rest of the world and is militarizing the Indian Ocean in order to grab its resources too with the CITES Conference or Washington Convention on Trade in Endangered Species which is really to promote private property rights in the global commons to promote US corporate Land, ocean and mineral resrouces grabbing.

Dodo, are YOU for real? The pseudonym gives it away! There are many nervous fake profilers paranoid of the simple truth. Pentagon = a plane figure with five straight sides and five angles. This is the very reason why the US military building is called the same. If you were the clever detective you claim to be, you would have realized that our national logo is the outstretched hand with a FIVE point web connection. The outstretched hand means ‘stop’ and the FIVE fingures identifies that each child defers from one another. The web highlights how the children are caught up in a tangle of child protection. The Pentagon Proposal identifies the FIVE key stakeholders responsible for child protection and accountable for the national action plan – President, Minister of Education, Children’s Affairs, Justice and Law & Order. Our plans are crystal clear. We have achieved three out of the FIVE key points without the support of the government already. There is no reason for the President or any other citizen to flutter hysterically. LGBT rights, women’s rights and every other community rights get the platform that they deserve but children’s rights, our precious future’s rights are ignored. We all know the sudden U turn of The President is because he is playing to the gallery of voting teachers. We, the citizens who care, with an ounce of common sense will not watch silently while our non-voting children are treated as “zero class” citizens of Sri Lanka! http://www.stopchildcruelty.com

    Dear Trush Wickramanayaka,

Re: Head of Country Lies & Damn Lies,

Thank you for the write up.

Remember, this is a Land like no Other.

This land is illegally occupied by the Paras from Bharat, and lying is part of the 2,500 year-Old civilization, exemplified by the lies and imaginations of Para-Monk Mahanama of Mahawamsa fame,

We have a President who tried an illegal and unconstitutional coup, has been lying, and the parliament is yet to impeach the Dept of Justice yet to prosecute.

What we have is a lying President who had earned the titles of Traitor, Quisling, Sevalaya, Mala-Perethaya, Pachaya etc. to the 62 lake who voted for him in 2015.

Sirisena, a list like no other, in a Land like no other.

    Dear Trush Wickramanayaka,

Beating s child is part of the 2,500 Para Tradition. In addition, the Para-Monks beat up the little boys and little monks, Samaneras, in their backs so much they all ended up being fucked-up.

This beating the child is not restricted to the monks. The priests do that, especially to alter boys, Ulama and Mullahs do that, and unfortunately some parents do that too.

Yes, more progress is needed in the so-called civilizations regarding child abuse.

In order to control Child abuse ban social media and bring controls to Internet. Close many Liquor shops or Cancels the licences given to Ministers and parliamentarians. Daya Gamage, Jonhston Fernando are two of those owners. If you go for Drug Barons most of the parliament are there. If you go for Brothels, many parliamentarians are promiscuous and they have some parties I think even inside the Parliament. these are public secrets because Media do not like to lose their revenue.

I copy the poem that I intended to draw the attention of the readers

      Children Learn What They Live
      by Dorothy Law Nolte, Ph.D.

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.
If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.
If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If children live with tolerance, they learn patience.
If children live with praise, they learn appreciation.
If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.
If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.
If children live with recognition, they learn it is good to have a goal.
If children live with sharing, they learn generosity.
If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.
If children live with fairness, they learn justice.
If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect.
If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those about them.
If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.

The President’s behaviour and attitude are caused by the trauma he suffered as a result of the “tokkas’ administered by his father when the Prez was a small boy. Who would believe that these tokkas could cause PTSD?

I can understand this from NGO’s side. Every problem goes back to our politicians. So, every one is guilty. There is no one among 225, who did not legally or fraudulently steal from the public. On the other hand, NGOs are people who were educated in CRAPPY Post graduate programs. come back to Sri lanka and are employed in Programs important to the International community. So, there is a reason.

      Hi Chiv
“Beauty belongs to those who appreciate it.”
      This belongs to you.
‘As she stood in front of her 5th grade class on the
very first day of school, she told the children an
untruth. Like most teachers, she looked at her
students and said that she loved them all the same.

However, that was impossible, because there in the
front row, slumped in his seat, was a little boy named
      Teddy Stoddard.

Mrs Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and
noticed that he did not play well with the other
children, that his clothes were messy and that he
constantly needed a bath. In addition, Teddy could be
      unpleasant.

It got to the point where Mrs. Thompson would actually
take delight in marking his papers with a broad red
pen, making bold X’s and then putting a big ‘F’ at the
      top of his papers.

At the school where Mrs. Thompson taught, she was
required to review each child’s past records and she
put Teddy’s off until last. However, when she reviewed
his file, she was in for a surprise.

Teddy’s first grade teacher wrote, ‘Teddy is a bright
child with a ready laugh. He does his work neatly and
has good manners… he is a joy to be around.’

His second grade teacher wrote, ‘Teddy is an excellent
student, well liked by his classmates, but he is
troubled because his mother has a terminal illness and
life at home must be a struggle.’

His third grade teacher wrote, ‘His mother’s death has
been hard on him He tries to do his best, but his
father doesn’t show much interest and his home life
will soon affect him if some steps aren’t taken.’

      0

      Chiv
      Continue…
Teddy’s fourth grade teacher wrote, ‘Teddy is
withdrawn and doesn’t show much interest in school. He
doesn’t have many friends and he sometimes sleeps in
      class.’

By now, Mrs. Thompson realized the problem and she was
ashamed of herself. She felt even worse when her
students brought her Christmas presents, wrapped in
beautiful ribbons and bright paper, except for
      Teddy’s.

His present was clumsily wrapped in the heavy, brown
paper that the got from a grocery bag.

Mrs. Thompson took pains to open it in the middle of
the other presents. Some of the children started to
laugh when she found a rhinestone bracelet with some
of the stones missing , and a bottle that was
one-quarter full of perfume. But she stifled the
children’s laughter when she exclaimed how pretty the
bracelet was, putting it on, and dabbing some of the
perfume on her wrist. Teddy Stoddard stayed after
school that day just long enough to say, ‘Mrs.
Thompson, today you smelled just like my Mom used to.’

After the children left, she cried for at least an
      hour.
On that very day, she quit teaching reading, writing
and arithmetic. Instead, she began to teach children.
Mrs. Thompson paid particular attention to Teddy . As
she worked with him, his mind seemed to come alive.
The more she encouraged him, the faster he responded.
By the end of the year, Teddy had become one of the
smartest children in the class and, despite her lie
that she would love all the children the same, Teddy
became one of her ‘teacher’s pets.’

    0

A year later, she found a note under her door, from
Teddy, telling her that she was still the best teacher
he ever had in his whole life.
Six years went by before she got another note from
Teddy. He then wrote that he had finished high school,
third in his class, and she was still the best teacher
he ever had in his whole life.
Four years after that, she got another letter, saying
that while things had been tough at times, he’d stayed
in school, had stuck with it, and would soon graduate
from college with the highest of honors. He assured
Mrs. Thompson that she was still the best and favorite
teacher he had ever had in his whole life.
Then four more years passed and yet another letter
came. This time he explained that after he got his
bachelor’s degree, he decided to go a little further.
The letter explained that she was still the best
and favorite teacher he ever had But now his name was
a little longer….The letter was signed, Theodore F.
Stoddard, MD. The story does not end there. You see,
there was yet another letter that spring. Teddy said
he had met this girl and was going to be married. He
explained that his father had died a couple of years
ago and he was wondering if Mrs. Thompson might agree
to sit at the wedding in the place that was usually
reserved for the mother of the groom.
Of course, Mrs. Thompson did. And guess what? She wore
that bracelet, the one with several rhinestones
missing. Moreover, she made sure she was wearing the
perfume that Teddy remembered his mother wearing on
    their last Christmas together.

They hugged each other, and Dr. Stoddard whispered in
Mrs. Thompson’s ear, ‘Thank you Mrs. Thompson for
believing in me Thank you so much for making me feel
important and showing me that I could make a
    difference.’

Mrs. Thompson, with tears in her eyes, whispered back.
She said, ‘Teddy, you have it all wrong. You were the
one who taught me that I could make a difference. I
didn’t know how to teach until I met you.’

Warm someone’s heart today. . . pass this along.

Challenges are what make life interesting Overcoming them is what makes life meaningful

This article is of an aggressive nature, accusing the president of symptoms of pathological lying, etc? As a medical doctor, does she insult her patients in such a way? She has diagnosed a person without a psychiatric assessment, is she a consultant psychiatrist? Reading the article I do not question the cause, but I do question the ways, and means, and ask the question is there a ‘hidden political agenda’ behind her actions? I sincerely hope that she does not ‘label’ her patients in such a manner.

This article is quite aggressive, diagnosing the president as pathological liar etc. A diagnosis has been made by Dr T.W. does she have expertise in this field? And If somebody is not in agreement with your cause, do you give them a diagnosis, as a form of punishment?

    • 1
      6

Manesha, thank you for the professional introduction. Having completed six years of medical training, which includes Clinical Psychiatry, 27 years as a physician with an unblemished career spanning across the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic, I am confident of my professional opinion. Please note it is my professional opinion and not my professional diagnosis; the former which does not require a formal psychiatric assessment. Nevertheless, permit me to alleviate your anxieties without being too clinical. The simple definition of Pathological lying is a behavior of habitual or compulsive lying. There are many consequences of being a pathological liar. Due to lack of trust, most pathological liars’ relationships and friendships fail. If this continues to progress, lying could become so severe as to cause legal problems, including, but not limited to, fraud. I am certain many on this channel will identify these characteristics instantly in relation to The President.

The UNCRC combined fifth and sixth periodic report of 2018 emphasizes: Following the Presidential election held on 8th January 2015, a coalition government launched a ‘Hundred Day Programme’ to address pending urgent issues relating to reconciliation and development. Thereafter, the present government was installed following the Parliamentary election of August 2015. The Policy Statement delivered by President Maithripala Sirisena addressing the 8th Parliament of Sri Lanka on 1st September 2015 stated: ‘Our children are the future of the nation. My government’s main intention is to build a better future for the children and to ensure their security’. Issuing a message for World Children’s Day on 1st October 2015, President Sirisena stressed the ‘unconditional responsibility’ of the entire nation for the protection of children. Of course, we all know that President Sirisena, subsequently denied knowledge of the Hundred Day Programme. A BIG fat lie!

The only “hidden political agenda” is that we, the citizens who elected men and women to serve our nation and resolve the burning national issues are no longer prepared to turn a blind eye to the injustices and inefficiencies. Perhaps, you may think twice before you crucify the professional integrity of a law abiding citizen who has served Mother Lanka during her darkest hours of civil war and continues to offer her services and resources without any personal gain!

      • 5
        3

The reasons for a persons engagement in a given cause is of course left to the individual. The cause which she represents is an issue that effects us all, and through all levels in our society. I would not for a moment insinuate that the honorable lady has any ulterior motives such as profiling herself for a political career, or furthering her standing in the society, or to intimidate teachers. I do however object to the ways and means she is proceeding, she does in her answer say:’one should think twice before you crucify the professional integrity of a law abiding citizen’. Her attack on the president of our country seems to be doing exactly that; what she herself tells us in her own words, not to do. The president as I see it had gone back to his old school, and was in fact telling the teachers of how much he honors their dedication, and sincerity. Teachers who work for their Mother country, and have done so during the darkest hours of civil war and are still offering their services– educating and teaching moral values— to our wonderful, and dearest children.

        • 1
          3

Manesha, again, you seem to overlook the obvious – The President is not a law abiding citizen nor an honest individual for the reasons I have presented with facts. There is no professional integrity left of the man to crucify! On the contrary, you appear to be doing just that of the Author without a shred of evidence. Perhaps, you can read The First Abuser of Sri Lanka by Grusha Andrews, which echoes the sentiments shared by many as I.

I would not for a moment insinuate that the right honorable lady has any ulterior motives such as profiling herself for a political career, or furthering her standing in the society, or wanting to intimidate teachers in any way. I do however object to the ways and means she is proceeding, she does in one of her answers say:’one should think twice before you crucify the professional integrity of a law abiding citizen’. Her attack on the president of our country seems to be doing exactly that– what she herself tells us in her own words, not to do. The president as I see it had gone back to his old school, and was in fact telling the teachers of how much he honors their dedication, and sincerity. We must also honor our Teachers who work tirelessly for their Mother country, and have also, as she, worked during the darkest of hours during the civil war, and continue to offer their services, educating and teaching moral values— to our wonderful, and dear children.

Manesha there are group of doctors who have diagnosed crook Trump as a pathological liar living in his own world and not in reality , having mix of personality disorder . Even the Medical Council did not reprimand them other than advising to avoid making such comments. The Congress did invite one doctor from Yale to hear her views. It is the duty of a citizen to stop a lunatic from taking the country, drown the drain. You obviously seems to be in apparent denial. Lankan in general love to keep their eyes closed and pretend ignorance. Unfortunately you are not the only one in Lanka who prefers living in myth.

Chiv, so you think that Trump is a lunatic, suppose you are not alone, but it all has to do with alternatives, the alternative to Trump was Hillary, in my opinion also a lunatic. So the American people voted between two lunatics and surprise, surprise, they got a lunatic as president. I personally preferred Barak Obama, but he was no longer available. So here in Sri Lanka, the people had a choice, Rajapaksa or Sirisena, and they chose Sirisena. It all depends on the choice given, life is like that we have, we make choices, some good, some bad. We do however have the freedom of choice, which is a great thing.
